I've heard a lot of people say that instead of buying new clothes they will use their current ones to be their judge. And when they get tight, they know it is time to lose weight.
Drinking calories... that is an interesting way to put it. I haven't heard that one as a reason not to try or do drinking. I think we all (unless we don't drink sodas, coffee, juice, energy drinks, etc... all drink our calories. :-)
For me, it was a matter of not consuming so many empty calories and consuming only highly nutritious ones. My wife said she would have missed chewing. Some people do a juice fast for 10 days, while others do a 15, 30 or 60 day fast. Each person is different. I know people who only "juice" one meal a day. That way they limit the amount of "heavy" foods to be processed by the body.
The documentary "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" motivated me. It is kind of long, but totally worth watching and it is free. My suggestion:
I suggest watching the first 6:08 minutes.
The truck driver that he met along the way calls and asks for help at 51:00 The change he makes in his life is nothing short of a miracle... one that we all can possibly do. Watching from 51:00 til' the end is so worth it! Actually the entire thing is worth every second of it.
If the video appears to long, then jump ahead to 42:36 and watch til' 45:06 then watch the end of the video. The main guys' story is amazing... At 49:50 (maybe 50:00) he talks about what the change has done to his mind and a lady talks about how clear/sharp his mind is.
They did a "success story" about my weight loss... if you are on Facebook you can see it here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10
Just trying to share the love and help others too. I was 252. I'm healthier, happier and more fit now than I've been in years! My wife, kids, family and friends have me back... most importantly, I have me back and that means I am able to be a part of the world again. Not just the fat guy sitting off to the side!
Best of luck to everyone at reaching your goals no matter how or what you do to get there! :-)
