On this last morning of June, I am grateful for:

-Being able to go back to sleep after waking at my usual early hour today (we were up late visiting with friends)
-Going to a local theatre this afternoon to see "The Mountaintop," a play about the night before MLK was killed, which has great reviews
-One of our kitties being particularly lovey this morning
-The abundance of healthy food in our kitchen and being able to share with others
-Cooler weather here too this weekend and I've been trying to take full advantage
-Reading a suspense novel that I was gifted as a Christmas present that is a NY Times bestselling author from right here in Kansas City
-Each of you who share in this practice of gratitude, making it even more special for the rest of us

Make it an excellent day in your own favorite way!!!

Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smaller right and doing it all for love.
-- St. Thérèse of Lisieux

Good morning,

I am deeply thankful for so much, including~~

~ Fage Greek Yogurt, thick and creamy, giving me a major protein *hit*

~ organic berries, grapes and pit fruits in abundance now, and particularly sweet and succulent this year

~ a beautiful Sunday to be outdoors, with plans to be wheeling about on my bike within the hour

~ intention (and hope too) that my foray back into strength training this week (twice now) will again become habitual

~ my 71-yr. old healthy, flexible, highly ambulatory body that is, however, stubbornly resisting moving downward on the scale toward my minus 15 lbs. goal -- in spite of it, I'm NOT caving in on tracking food and exercise

Blessed be,
xox

emoticon emoticon My sincere appreciation to all who have contributed to this thread.
I will post a link here for JULY thread and I so hope to see you all there.

My appreciations this morning include:
-New appreciation for my anti-gravity boots knowing they are sparing me percussion injuries (lady that visited yesterday had to stop walking because of these issues)
-Solo KJ walk to take in Victor Vasarely exhibit at upper gallery and artist’s inspired by his work in lower galleries (C gifted me a small Vasarely years ago so it was a surprise treat to see the diverse and much larger works)
-The blue skies with fluffy white cumulus clouds coming into delightful new perspective for walk home
-Hanging out with R online couple friends and dropping in and out as desired
-Being treated to delicious Indian dinner with kind and thoughtful couple
-Amazing views and athletes of The Tour de France

I am grateful that I am focused and resolute this moment. All I can count on is this moment and that is enough. I will rewrite the cues that lead to emotional overeating and remember the alternative to my best self is not who I want to point to. I am grateful for people here who have similar goals and are supportive.

Good morning,

Much to be grateful for, as I endeavor to plant seeds of love and kindness~~

~ changed my brunch menu today when a big pot of just-cooked polenta prepared by my housemate became available...which I enjoyed with pinto beans and chopped organic beefsteak tomato

~ fascinating article on Bono's Christian allegiance

~ a slightly cooler and less humid day

~ scrumptious organic white nectarines, black plums, and red grapes

~ re-integrating strength training into my life

This morning, I am grateful for:

-Not injuring myself (other than a small bruise) when I was on a step ladder with a lantern flashlight trying to locate our kitty who got caught downstairs when a handyman came and got so scared, she took to hiding in the basement ceiling
-Finding the kitty and getting her out; all is well and she's fine
-Understanding friends
-Getting recognition during a team meeting this week for an e-mail I crafted and sent to our outside auditors; my manager RARELY does this kind of recognition, so it was a big surprise
-It's a weekend and we're doing our favorite thing tonight - having friends over for dinner (including celebrating a 70th birthday)
-Just now realizing that I have a VERY short work week next week; likely only 2-1/2 days!!!

Make it an excellent day in your own special way!!!

The blur of light
conquers the dark.
I awake dazzled.
-- David, age 11

Good evening,

Happy to be maintaining this important practice by coming by here before bed~~

~ enjoyed CNN Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta's presentation last night as part of Clinton School of Public Service series in Little Rock

~ a neurosurgeon, Gupta was asked about brain health in old age and I thought it was interesting that he said the latest research is not supporting the value of crossword puzzles, sudoku, etc. in having impact on brain health in the way that learning new skills does...oh, and he said that depending upon recorded lists is not desirable...better to make and remember mental lists (uhhhhh, right)

~ tracking food is really keeping me honest...great tool

~a serendipitous meeting with a friend on the street resulted in joining her and another friend to discuss something of mutual interest

~ getting a walk in today while getting my bike tire repaired, which means I've maintainted my exercise streak 28 days now

Blessed be,
xox

This morning, I am grateful for:

-Central AC, as the humidity here is pretty difficult in the summer
-Yesterday's rain cooling things down a bit
-It's Friday, so I'm very close to having a weekend for me
-Friend contacting us with free tickets to a play this weekend for the three of us to attend - "The Mountaintop" - about the night before the assassination of MLK
-Our Supreme Court; our judicial system has its flaws, but I so appreciate it when things work as they should; Wednesday was a historic day
-Equality
-My company having ice cream (I had a Skinny Cow) delivered around to ALL OF US yesterday, a continuation of our "Summer Breeze" theme where we can dress casually through the summer

Make it an excellent day in your own special way!!

This morning, I am grateful for:

-Julie's post and hearing all about her wonderful plans and happenings (great to see you!!)
-Having so much energy and feeling so great today after working hard in high heat and humidity yesterday doing things my body is not used to (no soreness today either)
-Our three wonderful kitties and our rituals that make me smile
-A solid night of rest (hmmmm ... hard day of physical work equals solid night of sleep???)
-That I have a great job that I'm actually happy to be returning to today after a week off
-My partner making me dinner last night after my hard day of being outside working in the heat

Make it an excellent day in your own favorite way!!

I have SO much to be thankful for. Tonight it includes...
~being on summer vacation with the kids and having a plan in place for a successful summer.
~finding my running mojo again AND getting back on my bike.
~a great report card for my baby girl and seeing how much she has grown this last school year.
~lovely early summer weather, lots of blue skies, sunshine and some rain to make everything grow.
~swimming last weekend in a clear, crisp river.
~a relaxing weekend at a cabin in the woods.
~our dog, who is becoming more protective and watchful everyday, and more dog than puppy.
~time to relax and read a novel, something I haven't been able to do in ages.
~an amazing end of the year celebration for our Daisy Girl Scout troop, including planting roses and releasing ladybugs into our local, community story garden.

It so easy to forget how many blessings we have. I am especially thankful for this forum when I need some reminders about how much I have when things seem so hard. emoticon

Today, I am grateful for:

-My company that sends employees out into the community for service on company time
-Giving a full day of work to Habitat for Humanity today (they are one of my favorites), despite this being the hottest day this year, so far
-Having the means to donate to Harvesters, our community food network, for our food drive
-The health, strength and stamina to do some really hard work today, climbing up and down scaffolding two stories high, nailing wood siding in, ripping out rotted wood and replacing it
-Hot, running water to accommodate a much-needed long shower as I was covered with old insulation and dirt
-A short work week since tomorrow will be my first day in the office in a week

Have an excellent evening!

Stephanie

What animates a person can sustain them. In fact, it's the only thing that will. What makes someone come alive is a gift that they do not possess. This gift should be shared with as few constraints as possible. And when it is, the means to continue that sharing naturally follows.
-- Daniel Burmeister, filmmaker

Sharing some of the many things I am thankful for...

- people watching, such fun trying to guess people's stories as I'm driving or walking and seeing others going about their lives too
- a perfect 20 minutes spent reading outside last night with a glass of excellent wine, after the heat died down, and before the bugs came out
- great workout class at gym, and of my fave trainers was unexpectedly filling in for the regular instructor for Mon pm (who is also good, but doesn't get me charged up the way Kelly does)
- having perfect hair to wash and go when the heat and humidity makes blow dryers unpleasant
- person at the gym who "paid it forward" and put some of my equip away as he was passing by while I was talking to someone
- dg respecting my wish to go about my morning routine while enjoying a sense of solitude and not chatting
