I get that way. In fact I woke up and thought that I feel like taking a walk... It is Mother's Day and I know that my kids want to make me breakfast in bed. Is bad if I am gone when they finally wake up? I need to be moving. My blood sugar was high all day yesterday.

So now I am typing this reply and coming up with reasons why I am not at the park already... So guess what? I am outta here. This Mother's Day morning I am going to take care of me!

Have a great day all!

Sounds like you started bright and early. Have a great Mothers' Day ALL - whether you are a mother, had a mother, still have a mother, are, were, or had a surrogate mother (aunt, friend, sister or neighbor) who was LIKE a mother to you. There are lots of MOTHERS in this world who may not have given birth, but love and care like mothers. Happy Mothers' Day to ALL of those too.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

Hi everyone, sorry to be MIA I haven't been online much recently!
How is everyone getting on???

I'm still doing the walking with my Auntie, we do a minimum of 2 miles every weekday evening, the weight is coming down slowly (and I mean slowly). The bank holiday weekend ruined me and the scales went up BUT I've turned it around and have dropped 2lbs this week so now I just have to keep it up!

HI !!! Did my thing this morning. Aso, went to Kroger's again for another "reward". When I use to live in Detroit I bought 2 flats of white geranium's and planted in my front yard w/ solar light's. Can't do that here. IDEA !!! Bought hanging basket of white geranium's took the hanging part off and put solar light in middle. PERFECT. Don't we just love reward's. Have a good day. Going for a perm in about 10 min. . Write more later.

ooohhh snow always gets me grumpy, wind and rain are fine but I can't stand snow!! Good luck with that!!
Don't let it stop you though, the sun will be out soon!!

I had my walk last night again, it was the longest one so far and I was soo tired afterwards but felt great!
Tonight is our chinese takeaway night, I'm having chicken chow mein and have already tracked the calories etc.. this is gonna be a massive test for me! I usually have beef kung po with chips and prawn crackers and I eat the lot! I don't even portion it out I just eat the whole lot, there is probably enough for 2/3 people.. so tonight I'm not ordering any chips or prawn crackers just the chow mein and I will be measuring!!
Today my main goal is to drink plenty of fluids, the temp is rising outside (finally) and yesterday I didn't drink enough and suffered for it!

Have a fab day everyone and keep working hard, every little does help! emoticon

Lately I have been feeling pretty tired so its been hard getting up and doing anything. I have noticed that less I do, the less I want to do anything at all. I keep trying to do a little bit at a time, Like when I saw the post asking how many push-ups I did, I got up right away and did 18 emoticon It was just enough to get me moving again. emoticon emoticon

things are getting better each and every day! With a little bit of work I am on my way. Take time to enjoy the sights on your weight loss journey, The destination will be that much sweeter.

Grandmafranny your posts made me smile! we have the soon here too today!
I've been on the go all day, visiting people.. one of which was my grandma who donated me some flowers (forget-me-nots) to plant in my garden.. so now I have a gardening itch!
Tonight is walking night, me and my auntie are headed out for a couple of miles and then I am coming home to relax!!
No treadmill today..
Tomorrow I have an afternoon of gardening planned and hopefully more walking in the evening!

The scales actually shifted today.. not quite a lb but I know what I'm doing is working!
I haven't been home most of today so I'm quite low on my food targets, I've been grabbing fruit where I can but I'm still below target range.

Posting on this thread is definitely keeping me motivated.. my good mood and enthusiasm usually doesn't last this long!!

Thank you for the suggestion - I am feeling some better. It is such a challenging time of year for me - between state testing, IEPs, and new kids coming and old kids going, etc. In my personal life, it is a similar phenomenon - our church is in the middle of changing our pastor and the whole good byes for the past two weeks and the welcome to our lives for the incoming pastor. At any rate, I am more positive today - a little less stressed since the testing is over, but I will bounce around for the next month and then move into an INCREDIBLE high point when I shift into SUMMER mode.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

Hi everyone, how is everyone going on?!
NANCYPAT1- take each moment as it comes.. its what is working best for me.. take time to think before you eat etc! I hope your feeling more upbeat soon emoticon

I have no walk planned for tonight but I do have a huuuuuge mountain of ironing daring me to do it, so guess what I'm doing tonight..?? yep I'm gonna walk on my treadmill, stuff the ironing that will still be there for me tomorrow lol emoticon

I'm very impressed with my attitude lately, my meal choices have been on point and I'm doing my best to stay on track with keeping active!
I will be having a takeaway on Thursday night but I will be choosing the best options.. if I don't let myself have a naughty treat I will snap lol.

Have an amazing day everyone!

Today and yesterday - I have been at a low point in my moods and my journey seems harder than it has been up to now - I am really working on turning my frown upside down and faking it until I am MAKING it.

I have felt the same. It's normally when I'm towards the end of a depression cycle though and will generally want to improve, but won't for a while. I normally break it by watching a crap load of motivational videos on youtube, a scary obesity documentary, and then doing a workout dvd.

Happymesoon- I love zumba.. I used to have it on the wii and do it at home until the kids jammed the console.. grrrr!! there are lots of classes popping up in our area so I might have to look at going one time.

Jgirl5799- funny you should mention the biggest loser, last night I realised I had about 10 episodes of it stored to watch so I walked on the treadmill in front of the tv with the biggest loser on, I did it again today! emoticon
There's something about Jill and Bob that make you feel guilty about watching from the sofa!!
emoticon
I've definitely found that one change at a time is much easier than everything all at once, I'm doing things I enjoy and building from there.. since I've been more active I have found my food choices have been much better and I've wanted to eat right and drink more (water that is..)!!

We can do it if we just focus on what we want and take everything as it comes!

I was terrible with excuses, I would find myself automatically thinking up negative reasons why I couldn't do something.. all it really was was a lazy attitude, rather than do something I found an excuse not to have to!

I have lazy days but ultimately I'm trying to listen to what my body wants.. one day at a time.. its like my new motto!

I love this post!!!

Way to go and keep going!!!

I remember when If first started in my journey, I was very vocal about getting fit, going to the gym doing this or that, but no results... why? Because I never did it!

I remember my mouth was way bigger than what my actions were... I am a huge biggest looser follower and one day watching it, I remember Jillian chewing out one of the contestants..

you always say it but you never do it....

Bob, also chewed out one of his contestants and this always proved it my mind with his voice... "actions will always outweigh your mouth, you say your doing it but your not, shut your mouth and just do it"

That hit me.. I was a talker not a doer...I realized too I was an excuse maker and a bad one at it..
I had to shut my mouth and prove to do it first, making goals one at a time, and when I did it and wanted more I added more goals to my list. But I found out if I put too much on my plate, I would get frustrated and got really discouraged a lot too, therefore quitting for a short while until I started complaining again LOL.. I had to add one thing at a time and get used to that new habit and it took me about 3 weeks to make one good habit to break one old one.

It was a huge light bulb moment for me...and yes, I did feel the same, but we can all do this!!!

I love sparks and how we all motivate each other..

Way to go on the new habits!!! One day at a time is a perfect way to look at things and it doesn't seem so overwhelming :-))

keep it up the great job!

It takes 30 days of doing something for it to become a habit
Learned that from a Bible Study group belonged to we started with Proverbs had no more trouble picking up the Bible to read
Have applied it to other things in my life and some have succeeded and others not
Lot depends on priorities
Best wishes as you continue to motivate yourself
One day at a time

so today I set a group up on fbook me and my auntie are going walking 6 evenings a week round our local racecourse.. its about a 2 mile walk, but its outdoors and having my auntie depending on me to pick her up to take her there holds me accountable and makes sure I go!
I've also bought some decaff green tea, I drink way too many milky teas and coffees (with sugar and sweetners) and so I thought a nice herbal decaff tea might make a nice healthy change! I'm already feeling less sluggish!

Happy sunday everyone!

Yes, everyone feels that way sometimes - making a plan that FITS YOUR LIFE and YOUR favorites will make it more likely that you will stick to it. Choose an exercise that FITS you - if you have kids or grandkids in your life, playing with them can be exercise. Biking with the whole family can be fun. Swimming, walking, tennis, and whatever YOU enjoy can all be exercise. Eating can include favorites but you want to make them fit into your calorie range and your fat, carb, and protein ranges too. When you make these accommodations and allow yourself to fit the plan into your real life and make yourself feel empowered and strong allowing choices but not allowing yourself to go crazy, the easier the process becomes and the more likely you are to stick with it for the long haul.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

Yea, Housewife! Getting a little more active is exactly what you were aiming for! The scales will be happy, but so will your lungs, your muscles, your blood pressure, your triglycerides, your heart (literally and metaphorically).
It's a really big deal, and you did it! emoticon

For me, it's all about momentum - when I feel that desire, I have to get up RIGHT then and do something about it. If I wait, or put it off, I know I'll never get off the couch that day.

Housewife I can totally understand, ever since I had the flu and a fibro flair up I have been terrible about getting back to the gym. I has been a whole month and now my back is acting up and I cant go in till next month for it.

It is a matter of just doing it and getting it done. Tomarrow i go in to get weighe by my nutritionist and I dread the results. Terrified I put on the wieght I lost.

Today is another day and all I can do is try to keep going and do the best I can at the moment. Frustrated and depressed both of wich do not help! The most I havebeeen doing is taking my dog for short walks, wich is all my back willl allow... better than nothing I guess!

Take care and hope the motivation/just do it bug hits you soon! Hugs*

The whole idea of motivation is a trap. Forget motivation. Just do it. Exercise, lose weight, test your blood sugar, or whatever. Do it without motivation. And then, guess what? After you start doing the thing, that's when the motivation comes and makes it easy for you to keep on doing it.”
-John C. Maxwell

I was in your shoes and am always wary of slipping back into that same mindset. So far, I've managed to stay on track by taking it one day at a time. Instead of vowing to walk 12 miles this week - I simply vow to get in one workout today. And, if I can't do my 30 minute video, then I do a 10-minute video. If I can't walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes, then I get on it for 10 or 20.

Picking just one or two healthy habits to work on also made this thing more manageable. I started with tracking my food intake daily, drinking 8 glasses of water, and doing some kind of exercise 6 days a week. The tracking and the water were easier to do, so I focused on the exercise portion.

One Day At A Time is what worked for me. I don't think too much about what I'll do tomorrow, but about what I'm going to accomplish today. Good luck! I know you can do this. emoticon

Love this inspiration!!! Unfortunately, motivation comes from within. People can cheer you on or give you ideas. But the bottom line is, you have to do your own exercise and only you can control what goes in your mouth. It would be nice if there was a "motivation pill" in a bottle!!! emoticon One thing I do is put on some dancin' music and just move around for a few songs then I am much more likely to exercise, do chores, etc once my blood is pumping.

Whats your routine in the morning or what are you like? For me its off to a slow but steady start, or grumpy some mornings. As far as my routine, its check 3 e-mail accounts: important, junk, and college, find food, back to laptop, scold cat for getting into stuff, and then back to laptop no matter how boring. See the laptop pattern? It could be the same for you and getting distracted or detoured by whats in your life on a regular basis.

I know what I like and enjoy, its finding what works for me. Make a time limit to get stuff done thats important and then exercise. For me its that and keeping my laptop in the bedroom on the desk. When its in the bedroom, its not right beside me when I could be outside going for a walk or getting projects done. Out of sight, out of mind in. If its not there, I forget about it or it doesnt become my focus as easily.

Are you tracking your food? That can be a really good place to start, and you aren't likely to lose as much weight with exercise as with controlling your diet. The pedometer is a good idea, too. Just track what you're eating and how many steps you take. The next day, eat just a little better, and take just a few steps more. A twenty minute walk when your son goes to school is a GREAT start! emoticon

Doing something is better than doing nothing. I find that if I can get a workout in early in the day, my decisions for the rest of the day continue to be "healthier".
I was sick for 2 weeks and could hardly even do a 10 minute walk on the treadmill...but felt so much better after I did. It was a mere portion of what I am used to doing but made me feel like at least I was working toward my goals.

It sounds as if your only interested in losing weight, not committed.

I read a great article online when I was on weight watchers a couple years back. I just searched online and was able to find it!

People who are interested in losing weight

* Stick with it until something better comes along
* Take action only if they "feel like" doing it
* Need to see results in order to stay motivated
* Blame people or circumstances for their struggles
* Easily give up when they face challenges

People who are committed to losing weight

* Stick with their plans no matter what
* Take action whether they feel like doing it or not
* Assume that if they stay motivated, results will follow
* Take responsibility for their own actions
* Keep going in spite of challenges and setbacks

My siggy is the perfect line for you:

Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you were going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you. You can totally do it, it's just a metter of if you are willing to commit yourself to do it.

When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful.

Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you were going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you.

"To all the girls that think you're fat because you're not a size zero, you're the beautiful one; it's society who's ugly." -Marilyn Monroe

Baby steps really are the best!! Weight loss doesn't have to be an all or nothing proposition, I learned this the hard way. I used to make all the excuses in the world, and just cave when I felt stressed. I would give up and tell myself that I might as well goi ahead and blow off the rest of the day just because of one mistake, but I think I may finally be getting that under control. Just hang in there and when you fall off the wagon pick yourself up, dust yourself off and hop right back on again!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Treat it like something you HAVE to do. Sometimes if I just make myself do a set of crunches or wall pushups, I feel like doing more. Its making the first step that is so hard!!! After you make that step, it should come easier. And like everyone else has said, ALWAYS stick to your routine! emoticon emoticon

I also find taking baby steps works best. I would always try to do everything perfectly and then everything would fall apart for me. I'm doing the SP April challenge of eating breakfast and/or exercising everyday. That's going fairly well. Perhaps another challenge next month...no soda whatsoever!

Focus! You can do this!

I agree just taking incremental steps is the best! That is how I started last year with SP. I entered a goal that I knew was doable. After I met that goal, I entered a new one, and so on; it wasn't overwhelming that way. I also had been sick for 5 weeks with very few workouts and gained some weight this last month. I am back at it, and starting slow again. I usually work out for an hour, and then walk my dog for 45-60 minutes. Yesterday I worked out for 45 minutes and walked the dog for 25min. It's a start! So, yes just going for a 10 minute walk is a GREAT START! Soon, you will be walking 30. You will crave the endorphins your body makes exercising!

Thank you everyone, I actually got out there today and went for a walk.. not as long as I would have liked but better than nothing!
I agree integrating things slowly will be the best way for me.. trying to do everything at once will be too overwhelming.
I definitely like the smoothie idea, I used to have them quite often, I think I just got too lazy to make them emoticon
I'm my own worst enemy at times!

I'm going to aim every day to go for a short walk once my son is at school.. it isn't much but it's far more than I have been doing!

Hi HOUSEWIFE87,

So many people feel they need to spend hours working out when in reality you don't have to do so. Just becoming more active during the day (I wear a pedometer every day and strive to get an average of 10,000 steps a day in--which would seem quite easy--but on my non-run days, boy howdy does it take some effort on my part) is what can motivate you to keep moving forward.

One thing I like to tell people is that you take where you are, not where you want to be. If you are pretty sedentary 10 minutes of walking per day can start to do wonders to lift your motivation. If you are not eating any fruits and veggies at every meal, eating the rainbow (a fruit or veggie of every color daily) can be a fun way to motivate you. Healthy living is not about making abrupt changes--that can be so overwhelming to many--buy integrating one healthy habit in over a period of time.

Take care!

Coach Nancy

Oh my. THis TOTALLY sounds like me not that long ago. I would say to myself that I needed to eat right and workout, and then I would stop for a donut, or candy bar, or something TOTALLY awful for me. And I wouldn't workout. I don't know what started me finally doing it, except I started my smoothies. I have one in the morning. It is about half of my required fruits and veggies. Then I eat my salad for lunch (which I know, some people hate, but I LOVE) and when I gave myself a week of eating right, I felt so great, I kept doing it!!! The best part is that I started worling out slow, the first week was just walking. Now I am getting more and more active!!! You can do this, It just takes 1 step.

I was doning sooo good untlil I got sick! then it has been down hill ever since... I am having a hard time getting back to the gym. I am training a new puppy so that does not help, though I am getting a bit more movement back into my routine becouse of her.
I also re-hurt my back and the procedure to fix it isnt untill next month - it makes it hard to walk for more than a few min at a time!
Still its not the mile or two that I was doing on the treadmill!

Thankyou HAPPYMESOON, I am hoping once I get out there I will just want to keep going, I like the treat idea! any excuse for new things eh?? lol
My son goes to school at 12.30 so I've had an early lunch and I'm going to make a point of getting out walking for a little while, 20 minutes even would be better than nothing!

You can do it housewife!!! Set a few prizes for yourself...just to get started!! Like, if I walk for 20 minutes a day, for 2 days in a row...Buy yourself a mini hand cream or perfume,etc...To cut the cost...I buy myself little things at Thrift stores..like a new belt or purse.....After a while, you feel so good when you exercise, it makes you WANT to get out there!!!! I found a Zumba class a few months ago....Can't believe how addicted I am to this Zumba! I feel so good when I get home...I want to clean the whole house down!!! It has really helped my motivation. It's just at my local YMCA.....

Thats all it is at the end of the day, excuses. My mind is screaming to get on with it but my body isn't listening!
I think I'm gonna have to create a routine involving workouts/activities and treat it like I would any other commitment and just make myself do it.

I have problems staying motivated if I don't get my exercise out of the way in the morning. I have a routine and if I don't stick to it I lose motivation. Had to take my duaghter to dr today so that changed my routine and now I don't feel like working out. At some point today I will walk but it won't be my normal. Everybody is different and you will have to find what works for you and what you enjoy doing. For me I had to get to the point I was so miserable that I could no longer take it and stopped making excuses.

Today I woke up feeling motivated.. an hour later my mind is still active but I cant seem to get myself up and out the door..
I want to get fit, lose a few lbs, eat healthy.. but I seem to stop there! I want all these things then do very little to get them..

Does anyone else feel the same?
I seem to find any excuse in the book not to get up and exercise, as soon as I decide to eat healthy I crave the worst things and justify eating it..

Does anyone know a way for me to break this cycle?

I've been this same way for years and I need to break it! Once I crack it I know there will be no stopping me but right now I'm just not sure how..
