I also have a rare kidney disease! I had my transplant over 12 years ago, and I didn't gain more than 5 pounds the year I was on the prednisone. If you're on it, find out if your transplant team will wean you off of it. It's just a nasty drug.
I also lived in Denver for 9 years, and I was never overweight before I lived there. Not necessarily Denver's fault, but I just wasn't happy there. Not a good fit. Since you have such a full life with the illness on top of it, You might want to look into talking to a therapist to get stuff of your chest. Then, you might think twice before fueling yourself with junk.
And you know that neither your workouts, nor your transplant benefit from junk food. There's no reason why you shouldn't be a size 6 again, and you've already shown progress all by yourself.
Feel free to message me if you need to talk.
