There are deeper things like wanting to be healthy before I get pregnant, and feeling a connection with nature, but what has been motivating me, and I mean REALLY motivating me, is a rewards system.
I like shopping and clothes (although I hate shopping for jeans). I found it difficult to work toward, deeper, more esoteric goals like "I am doing this for my future family," but it is easy to work towards "I will NOT buy any more shoes/t-shirts/dresses until I get below 135, then 130, now 125." Then when I reach my goal, I get something that I really wanted. When I dropped below 130, I got some Valentino sunglasses. Not only has it helped me stay on track with food tracking and daily exercise, I have started budgeting better, too!
Maybe is short-sighted or shallow, but it has been working.
Oh, and maybe less consumer-y, wanting to be a better athlete in a dance/gymnastics/circus arts program I am in. But clothes are involved with that, too. No new dancewear until I get enough arm strength to do an Angel with 1 hand.
