If it's just sitting there and you can't help yourself (but step on it).... then help yourself, by putting it somewhere else. Set up a once a week day and time that you will weigh in. And then put the scale in the garage, or in an out-of-the-way closet or something. Get it out at the appointed time, on the appointed day, and weigh in. Then put it back. For a long time, I kept my scale in the way back of the bathroom closet, behind a bunch of other stuff. It was a hassle to dig it out so it discouraged me from weighing every day.

I have a friend who took her scale over to her Grandma's house. Every week when she goes to visit Grandma, she weighs herself.

Generally speaking meals eaten at restaurants are higher in sodium content that what we prepare at home. You may just be experiencing a fluid shift. Check your weight again after being back at home a few days. You may well find yourself back where you started.

To OP, I can't have a scale in my house because I can't stay off it. So I get weighed once a month at the gym. Keeps me honest but not able to get depressed over normal fluctuations.

Today I faced the scale after traveling out of town. Staying in hotels and eating out is so hard, even if you track everything. So I faced the scale and the scale says I an 2 pounds up.
How can it take a month to drop 5 pounds and in two days your weight jumps up. Praying it is just water weight.

Remember to take time to enjoy the journey! Pam

I agree with the PP. Why are you giving an inanimate object that much power over you. The scale won't lie. It doesn't understand nor care that you exercise everyday, had a ton of salt the night before, can fit in your clothes better, or anything else. It will just tell you at that point in time what you weigh. Same as my blood pressure machine-- it tells me at that given moment what my pressure is. I can be happy or disappointed. the choice is mine. You will see tons of people on this site that say they weigh every day, once a week or even once a month.
You need to do what is best for you. If you feel better weighing in once a day, so be it. Just so you understand that you will see major fluctuations.
Personally, i don't give my scale a second thought anymore. I know what i am doing, I know how i am feeling. I can fit in my smaller clothes and that is better for me than a number on the scale.
As long as you don't let that number control you, weigh in as often as you want.

:)

Vent! That's fine. Most of us here have a love/hate relationship with our scales. Some people believe that they are a poor measure of success, but even SP has posted an article about how important it is to be aware of how much you weigh, so that you can be proactive about your weight.

The scale is a tool, just like a hammer, or a computer. They aren't evil. Tools only do what we ask them to. Your scale only has as much power as you allow it to have!

So why do I get on it every morning and then get de-motivated when it hasn't moved? I'm thinking I should put it in the garage where I can't see it every day when I get in the shower. I know I'm only "supposed" to weigh in once a week but I can't seem to help myself.

Thank you for letting me vent!
