Hi MAMA3MANY1,

The scale can be a very motivating tool, however for me I ditched it over 5 years ago when I was becoming too obsessed with the number. For me getting rid of the scale is what allowed me to finally give up the diet mentality. And the reality is, I no longer have the frustrations of the daily mood swings that weighing in would bring me every morning. I am what I am regardless of what one little number tells me.

Does ditching the scale work for everyone? No, but I do believe it can keep many people stressed out if the number is not what they expect to see especially when they are following their program to a T.

I still measure my food and put in my calorie intake on Spark People so I have a pretty good idea approx. how many calories I'm ingesting, but the "OCD" part of me still weighs to make sure I'm not underestimating my calories and gaining weight.

I realize that weight fluctuates during women's monthly periods, too much salt intake, having just ate (due to the weight of the food), etc. It's just a tool to give me an idea if I'm underestimating things or not.

I think it all depends how do you respond to those numbers. For me - if scale show number i like - i am happy. Unfortuntely quite few times it made me miserable too.

I mean, the scale is such a fickle master and as we read repeatedly everywhere, is not a true reflection of reality.

Just wondered what other Sparkes think on the matter.
