Omender had some good advice, and mine is going to sound like the same thing, haha.
When you go out with friends, stick to one drink (there are lots of Spark articles about what alcoholic beverages have the fewest calories) and pre-plan what you're going to order by checking the nutritional content ahead of time. Don't skimp on your earlier meals so you can overeat at the end of the day; that's never a good idea.
Make sure your friends know what you're doing. Maybe instead of hitting up cocktail hour, you can take a walk in the park or play tennis together. If they try to sabotage you ("oh, one bite won't hurt" - "you look fine, you don't need to lose weight"), put a stop to it immediately. You need supportive friends!
Since you only need to lose 10 pounds, recognize that it's going to take a long time. The less weight you have to lose, the longer it takes. So focus on toning; it'll make you look thinner without the numbers on the scale changing. If you really get into it, remember that the scale may go up as you gain more muscle and lose more fat. Pick another way to track so you don't fixate on a number.
Stay with it, and you will see results!
