Hello everyone, how are you all doing? Have not heard from anyone in the past few days emoticon but I trust you are all very busy being totally emoticon !!!

Am recovering from day dental /hone surgery and plan on taking it easy today, just a little walking. Feeling ok, just a tad tired. Left the hospital yesterday with huge chipmunk cheeks. Looks like I am participating in a marshmallow swallowing contest -kinda funny.

Here is hoping you all have a great day and I am sending my support and best wishes as you work toward achieving your goals. emoticon emoticon

Sept2014 congrats on your successful progress with training and passing your first test. emoticon emoticon Sounds like a rigorous regimen. emoticon Can't imagine being able to do what you are doing. Keep up the great work. emoticon You can do it. emoticon

I am doing well increasing my steps to average daily 8000 last couple weeks. So I am making solid progress to daily 10,000 goal once again. Although I binged last night stressing about my brother who just got out of ICU, Im feeling great about achieving a week long no night binge streak. I have lost two pounds in last two weeks. Actually gained a pound of muscle and lost 3 pounds of fat. emoticon Love that Withings scale. Im glad Sparkpeople recently partnered with Withings. Now I just need to figure out how to link my Withings scale readouts to auto upload into my Spark page.

Keep on keeping on. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

MARBEALL, how are the 10,000 steps progressing? You are awesome for keeping the focus on them and working to get them all in. I bet you will love the results. emoticon

Alpinedeb, with the endless variety of salad options, you vow I'll never run out of things for supper! I have been working on added a small side salad to meals in addition to the regular veggies I would normally serve. I think it foes help fill me up and provide additional nutrition.

Kimmy, so what happened at the baseball tourney? Did your boys win? emoticon

JENTHEPEN, September is coming soon, are you ready for your big trip to Scotland?

Happymenow, thinking of you.... What's up?

Things are progressing well on my Badass dash training plan. I mapped it all out on a calendar what I need to do daily to feel "ready" to participate in the race. Yesterday was a self imposed test day/milestone and I am happy to say I "passed,!

The training plan is basically a detailed list of various exercises, reps and sets to be completed. Yesterday I went to the track at the high school and did a series of extreme running bursts, push-ups, squats, etc, then drove to the gym to use the rowing machine and weight lifting. (Then I took my "test"). Today is a neighbourhood run as I work on endurance then some balance work on the bosu and finally work on those pesky chin ups. Tomorrow it is back to the track and the boot camp style workouts. July 25 th is my next "test day" and each is more extreme than the last. Must be ready.. Will be ready...

Kimmy Good luck for your sons baseball games. Great job walking in the morning and doing the hike. emoticon I am proud of you hanging in there achieving your 5k goals and participating in new challenges. emoticon

It is hard to start over training for running especially since the cough is still hanging on. Alternating rest with activity helps recovery. emoticon Your willingness to step up to the bat and keep on keeping on is amazing. Your motivation helps motivate me. emoticon

I am still working on trying to get back to my daily 10,000 steps. It was easier whenmy mall walk friend was more available. So now my dh helps me with shorter walks outside around the block. I got more steps last week ave. 8000 than the week before. Will walk with a friend around the high school track this afternoon. Tomorrow it's mowing the huge lawn which s always good for about 2500 steps.

Thank you emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Jams, I really like the Spark tracker a lot. It's so convenient to use, and I love that it automatically updates when I'm sitting at the computer. It was really motivating me to move more, but I got a little complacent this past week.

So, let's make those little lights flash together!

Alpinedeb sorry to hear about the small uptick. emoticon Yes you are right the tracker does need something to track. You are doing great with the salad. emoticon Keep it up! The kale carrot and beef salad sounds tasty. Will try it.

I binged on healthy food last night between 7-8 pm. Tonight is another opportunity to start a new no binge streak one no binge night at a time. Overall feeling good about my progress. emoticon Won't let last night binge stop me.

I am grateful for your support and sharing. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sept2014 thank you for the information on Canada. I visited there probably 25 years ago. I also remember the beauty and lack of liter. I'd be curious to see your training schedule looks like. I'm good at getting my cardio in not so good about weights or strength training. You'll rock it and we'll keep checking in with you on your training. emoticon

Marbeal glad your brother is doing well and hope he continues to get better. Your motivation is great and I'm proud of you. Way to go with those no binge nights and hitting your other goals as well. My cough is still lingering and really bugging me. The hike wasn't bad either. I went walking this morning to. I haven't ran in over 3 Weeks due to my cold and now my back. I'll be starting over. emoticon

Alpinedeb great job on those homemade vinegrettes. My Dh doesn't like dressings or most condiments so its trying to find something he might like our he doesn't eat salads. You're doing great emoticon

I might not check in due to baseball but if I can I'll drop a quick note. emoticon emoticon

Hi, everyone!

Marbeal-I'm happy to hear that your brother is getting good support from hospice. And the music therapy sounds like a good idea. Congratulations on no binging during this rough time.

Sept2014--my DH and I visited Canada many years ago and were so impressed by it's beauty. We were also impressed by the lack of litter and vandalism. Thanks for the tofu tip. I have done that with tofu on my stir fry, but never my salad. It sounds good. You have 2 1/2 months to get ready for your race--start now and you'll get there.

Kimmy--I mostly use homemade vinaigrettes. This week, I took a couple of bunches of kale and massaged a tablespoon of sesame oil into it. Then I tossed it with grated beets and carrots and splashed it with balsamic vinegar. It's delicious.

Kimmy so sorry to hear you are in pain. emoticon It's hard to keep up the exercise when your back hurts. Glad you are staying active. Congrats on your three miles. Did you survive the hike? Hope you give your back time to heal. How is your cough? emoticon

Good luck to your boys in baseball. Hope your oldest is able to take in your view. Well said about playing hard. Winning is about more than just the score.

Thank you for asking about my brother. He is getting a lot more support in Hospice. The nurse sees him twice a week. He will get music therapy too. Trying to stay positive around him.

Staying active is helping me to destress and not binging at night is helping me sleep more without that full heavy feeling and disrupted metabolism. Making solid progress and feeling the awesome support. Thank you Kimmy! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sept2014 Happy Canada Day!!! Love your bits of Canadian info. Especially the loonie and toonie!!!

Great job getting your training. There's still time to keep pushing. You can do it!! I'm rooting for team Sept2014.

Thank you for your encouragement. I did not binge last night again. I'm doing well with my July goal of no night binges, (what? How am I doing that? This no binge success is so new I'm still feeling surprised) 10 daily cups water, 10daily freggies, increasing daily steps and speed, sleeping a tad more, decluttering my house to de-stress is my August goal!

Keep on keeping on. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thank you Kimmy and Alpinedeb for the Canadian birthday wishes. Kimmy, to give you a heads up on what your family will encounter here. With a population of 38 million in the second largest country in the world, we operate using the metric system so our distance and speed limit is in kilometres, our temperatures in Celsius and gas prices are per litre. We get our beer from special dedicated stores called "beer stores" as sale of liquor is illegal in corner stores. Our currency is made from a plastic like material making it indestructible and very, very hard to counterfeit. We don't have pennies any more or one or two dollar paper currency. The $1 is a coin featuring a loon which we affectionately call a "loonie" and the $2 coin is called a "tooney". Order a "double double" and you are getting coffee with two cream and two sugars. We have the HST (harmonized sales tax) that adds 13% to the sticker price of virtually everything. Everyone has access to totally free health care (except dentistry) and seniors don't pay for prescriptions. And yes, we do say "eh" a lot. Have some fun with them when they get home.

Alpinedeb, I have found a way to avoid dressing altogether. I am not much of a tofu eater, but this does work and does not taste too bad either. Get the extra firm kind. Slice it into bite sided cubes. Coat it with soya sauce and let it marinate 30 min or so to soak in and then place in oven at 375 or so for 20-30 min turning once. You will see it brown up and crisp up a bit when done. I cool it and toss it into a Tupperware and then sprinkle some on my salad. The soy flavour is enough for me to not bother with dressing and added bonus of the protein in the tofu!

Kimmy, I hope your back feels better soon, that is no fun! Good luck with the boys and their baseball tourney. Hope they win!! emoticon

Hi Onedaymore, welcome! Pease tell us more about how we can support you.

MARBEALL, so proud of the work you are doing on managing binges. That is a tough one and I am pulling for you, keep up the great focus.

What is happening with you Jen?

Just under 2.5 months until my BADASS DASH race day and I am nervous I won't be ready. Put together a personal training plan boot camp style for myself with specific milestones to reach as I prepare. Hugely ambitious but if you all will just help by keeping me accountable, that would be awesome.

Each of us is on a journey and each of us can get there. Keep going, you are all fantastic!! emoticon emoticon

AlpineDeb way to go on that salad streak. Keep it going. What kind of dressings are you using? I like salads and salad bars but for some reason they're not as enjoyable at home. I need to just cut up everything and put it in containers like it would be at a salad bar. emoticon
emoticon Onedaymore! You've found a great group to join. I'm sorry to hear about your weight gain but hope that we can be a support to you and that you can emoticon Tell us about yourself. What are your goals, where are you from, what are you doing to work towards your goals.
Marbeall I'm so proud of you with your no binge streak. Good luck this month, I know you can do it! How are things with your brother? I'm impressed with your weight loss. I like the sound of your scale too. That is really cool and should really look at investing in one of those. emoticon
Sept2014 Happy Canada Day to you! I had no idea it was today. My In-laws left Sunday for Canada for the week, so fun for them to be there on your holiday! emoticon
Jen, hope things are going well for you. Do a quick check in if you can, we'd love to hear from you. emoticon
As far as me I'm hanging in there. Really struggling with back issues lately and am in pain. So my exercising hasn't been much. I did walk 3 miles yesterday and am going hiking with our youth tonight. I just hope I survive. emoticon My boys start a baseball tournament Thursday-Saturday so hopefully they do well. My oldest just finished his state tournament last night and lost 4-3 after 9 innings. They usually only play 7. They played hard. They won in my eyes emoticon emoticon After this coming tournament my oldest will have about a month off where my younger one won't. But less to deal with. Keep on posting and know I'm cheering you all on! emoticon emoticon emoticon

And a happy Canada Day to you, too!

I'm on a good streak with my salad a day. I've made some rules. To count, it has to be mostly fruits or veggies, and no mayo-based dressings.

I hope all of you are doing well!

Kimmy, thank you for your support. Congrats to your oldest son for winning the games so far. Did they win the state championship? Glad to hear you're getting some showings on your house. Hopefully you will get an offer soon.

I hear that getting the 6000 daily steps has been difficult with baseball everyday. But you've been doing a lot of challenges with friends. Isn't it great to have the support?

I've been struggling with getting my daily 10,000 but did manage to raise last weeks average steps up from the previous week. Walking with all the rain and mosquitoes has been a challenge. But dancing several times this past week has helped increase steps and get a break from focusing too much on my brothers condition. Thank you once again for the red shoes goodie. Looking forward to the time when I've lost enough (30 more pounds) to dance with shoes that have heels.

I've also been gaining momentum with longer streaks of no binge nights. In June. I started focusing one night at a time built up from 2 no binge nights to 6 no binge nights a week in June. So now my July challenge with another spark group is to achieve my goal of not binging for a whole month. My strategy for achieving my goal will still be focusing on one no binge night at a time and giving myself credit for each bit of progress every day no matter how small. It's hard feeling hungry some nights but I think my stomach will adjust to not eating late at night. I'm happy about losing 4 pounds of fat and gaining 2 pounds of muscle this month. So my total weight is down 2 pounds for the month of June. emoticon

Your support is awesome. Thank you emoticon emoticon emoticon

Onemoreday glad to see your post. Welcome emoticon Sorry to hear that you are feeling down about gaining 5 pounds. The good news is you are wanting to do something positive about and came to the right place for encouragement. We can do it together.

I find it's easier to jump start my motivation when I am kind to myself and give myself credit for every little thing I do that is positive. Then my mood spirals up and I start feeling like doing things that get me closer to achieving my goals.

Hope you can be kind and caring to yourself. emoticon

Coolrain I hope the computer glitch is unrelated to sparkpeople and that Happymesoon comes back too.

Thank you for your support and encouragement for my no binge streak and kind words about my brother and for your thoughts and prayers. emoticon

It is wonderful you are such friends with one brother. But I am so sorry to hear you have lost another brother. emoticon

Kimmy congratulations on your 50 mile bike ride. emoticon Wahoo you did it! emoticon I'm so proud of you. You did not quit even though it was hard when you were sick and couldn't train as much as you wanted. Going up 2500 feet! yikes! No wonder you got cramps. They are so painful! But you really pushed yourself. I don't know how you did it. You are awesome!!!emoticon

Thank you for your kind words about my brother. I am keeping on keeping on. This is my sixth night in a row of no night binging. I am feeling hungry but am going to bed without eating. It's after 11 pm and too late to eat. Last night my dh and I went grocery shopping in the evening. He started to asked to fix a meal. For the first time ever I said don't ask me to do anything with food this late it's 9:30 pm. He agreed to fix it himself. I went upstairs and went to bed early.

Your support really helps thank you so much. emoticon You are inspiring me to keep on keeping on. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Alpinedeb adding a salad a day sounds great! Congrats on turning your original reading into a positive daily change. My advice is follow your salad direction and be creative in building your daily salad into a yummy and sustainable lifetime habit. Looking forward to hearing all the delicious types of salad ingredients and recipes you are bold enough to try. emoticon

You can do it. We can do it. Keep on making salads. emoticon emoticon

BTW i see that you ordered the spark activity tracker. Have you started using it? How do you like it? emoticon emoticon emoticon

AlpineDeb that has got me thinking too so will have to think of something I could add every day. I gave up pop for a year but am so glad to have it back. Dumb something like that or anything you really want really can make you that much happier. emoticon I like the salad a day idea. I love salad so should do that.
CoolRain I like that you got the Yoga DVD and have that as a goal to work towards. emoticon I did 2 challenges in together but both had 2 different goals. They were put together by friends so not on SparkPeople. The first one was 6 weeks long and is like a multimarketing push for their food. But we had a goal to lose 6% of our weight and do different things to get points, like read daily emails, log food, log exercise and do weekly webinars and phone calls. I got my points but didn't try hard on the weight loss. The 2nd one is 8 weeks (and ends Saturday) That one had more to do with logging into MyFitnessPal daily and then each week we had a challenge to work on. Each week was doing something different i.e: the Whole30, exercising as hard as we could at least 30 minutes, no sugar, this week is yoga, etc. The goal is to do at least 5 days, not consecutive. You get so many points for that, plus points for logging your food each day and staying within your calories. Each one I had to put in $20, so not a bank breaker. Thank you for the support of my bike ride, your total of 345 feet made me laugh. It is pretty flat there and I could probably ride forever there and be fine emoticon
Marbeall I'm so proud of your for your no binge streak, I love the goal you set and that you are going to make it. You are doing emoticon emoticon emoticon together emoticon
For me we've had baseball every day this week and with doing yoga my steps have been way down. That kindof stresses me out to try and hit my 6000. Monday and last night all 3 of my boys had games. It's a bit much. But for the rest of the week it'll just be 1 son, the other son lost his last game that put him out of this tournament. But loud CHEERS for my older son who is still undefeated so hopefully keeps winning and can win the State Championships tomorrow night!! We lowered the price of our house so had showings the last 2 days, just no luck on an offer emoticon and we have some friends just up from us going to list their house and will be building by us so that will be fun. Just hope their house doesn't sell before ours. Oh well just a matter of time. I'll just emoticon along and taking one day at a time. You guys are emoticon !!! Have a fabulous day!

Yes, I'm not sure that I want to give up wine for a year, either. There really doesn't seem to be a reason to--it will just make me want a glass. But I have added a salad a day as a goal.

AlpineDeb, I didn't mean to leave you out of that last post. What you said about giving something up to meet your goal made me think, and I have to admit, I could give up the wine and it would probably help. The only trouble is, I'd probably freak out and commit murder and mayhem if I did. I definitely don't even want to think about giving it up for a year. emoticon emoticon I love my glass (or two) after a stressful day at work especially, and this week is a prime example. I just try to exercise more to compensate. Anyway, keep up the good work. emoticon emoticon

Hi all. First, I'm so sorry to hear that HappyMeNow has had to leave us. I hope they find the problem is caused by something completely unrelated to SP, and she comes back.

Marbeall, I'm so proud of you for your no binge days. emoticon Keep up the good work--you're so worth it! emoticon And I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. I don't know how I would handle that. I've lost one brother, and the one that is left is my best friend. Walking and crying sounds like a very healing thing to do. Just want you to know you're in my thoughts and prayers. emoticon

KimmyGA1, so good to see you posting again. I missed you when you weren't posting. emoticon I've watched the Yoga DVD, but I haven't gotten up my nerve to actually do it. It's more of a Power Yoga style, Vinyasa or Ashtanga style--more vigorous than the gentle slower Hatha style I'm used to. But to watch, it's beautiful, and to listen to as well, and once I feel like I'm in a little better shape and can handle it, I'm definitely going to give it a go. What's the challenge that you've been doing? I need another challenge. I'm so proud of you for doing a 50 mile bike ride! emoticon emoticon I can't imagine climbing 2500 feet. emoticon The highest point in Florida is only 345 ft.

The rain lilies have faded, and my dh is starting to mow the lawn, so the few that are left will be gone soon. But more will come later.

Y'all take care.

Hello all!!! I get so caught up in other things that I miss this, then my computer shuts down and I lose this page I've had up! It's been great to read everyones posts and I'm really sad we lost Happymynow emoticon She was a great support, gave great advice and a good friend. I hope she comes back and will find us again.
AlpineDeb I appreciate your posts and for joining our group! I think it is great that you did listen/talk to your dh and things and that it helped him. Good luck with your gardening and the heat. Keep working hard, we just have to take it one day at a time and making small changes. emoticon emoticon
Coolrain it's great to see the changes you've made. How's that new yoga DVD? I've never really been a yoga person but this week is the final week of one of my challenges and we're supposed to try to do at least 5 days of yoga. So I've done it twice this week so far. The only thing that I stress about is it doesn't help with my steps, so then I've got to think of other ways to get those steps in with working. I bet your yard is beautiful! I keep hearing from my dad who is in Orlando about their afternoon showers they keep getting hit with. emoticon emoticon
Marbeall way to go to get those no binge days last week. I'm sorry to hear about your brother and hope they can get things worked out with hospice. Just remember to keep taking care of yourself. emoticon Keep up with that exercise and no binges. How's this week going so far? emoticon emoticon
Jen, hope things are going well for you and that you've been able to balancing everything out. Check in if you have a moment.

Well I did it! I did the 50 mile bike ride on Saturday! emoticon That was the hardest thing I have done! With being sick and limited training I was nervous that day. But you know even though I kept telling myself I was going to give up, I never did. emoticon Even on those hills when I had to get off and walk I kept pushing, along with those times I got the biggest cramps in my legs I kept pushing. When I finished I said I would never do that again but you know looking at it, I might try again but a different route for sure. We climbed a total of 2500 feet. emoticon I appreciate you guys for you encouraging me, what would I do without you guys? Thanks for keeping this thread going even when life gets busy. I am still sick with my cold but now it's just the dang cough I need to get rid of. Thanks to All of you!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Well, my weight is up a bit, no surprise since I was pretty lax and lazy last week. This is my big challenge--maintaining my momentum. I would appreciate any advice!

I misread the title of a SparkPeople article last week. It was something about would you give up a year of your life in exchange for being normal weight. I read the title as asking what would I give up for a year in exchange for being normal weight. I've been pondering it ever since. It's really not a very good question, because it is a kind of magical thinking all-or-nothing question, but it's stuck in my head. I've realized that there are 2 things I could give up that would go a long way towards my goal--wine and computer games. So, I think I will set up some streaks to see how I do with avoiding both of those.

Then this morning, I turned the question around to what would I add for a year. I'm thinking maybe a salad a day?

Alpinedeb thank you for your kind words. emoticon I am taking care of myself by exercising more frequently during the day now. I wear sunglasses and let myself cry while I walk.

Last night I stopped myself after eating a second piece of bread and went upstairs to bed early to avoid binging. I achieved this past week's goal and got my fourth night of no binge. emoticon

This weeks goal is five nights of no binge. I will dance tonight and go straight to bed when I get home for first of five no binge nights thus week.

Thank you once again for your kind words. emoticon emoticon

Coolrain thank you for your support on no binge nights. Thank you for being there. I will look up the pink Zephyranthes.

This is a short note. My brothers oncologist has referred him to a hospice program. I am having a hard time right now. I binged even though I had intended not to. I will try to get my fourth night of no binge Saturday.

I am grateful for all my awesome spark friends. Happymesoon, Jen. miss you guys. Hope you are ok.

Hello Spark Friends--
Just a short note today. Good to hear from you Marbeall and AlpineDeb.

Marbeall, Rain Lilies are Zephyranthes--if you google them, look for pictures of really pale pink ones, and you'll see what my front yard is covered with right now. They're soooo pretty--and free! emoticon

I'm so proud of you for sticking with the no binge streak. emoticon Hope you continue to do well. I'm rooting for you. emoticon

AlpineDeb, We have the same problem gardening in the heat that you have in Texas. Not much can withstand the heat & humidity, especially the gardener! emoticon

Way to go on supporting your dh that way. We all need that sometimes. I'm so glad I found this message board and strand. It's really been a blessing to me. My dh supports me, but here my Spark Friends are really going through it with me--the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Love you guys. emoticon My computer is still busted, so I'll not be back till Monday. Have a great weekend.

Alpinedeb congrats on losing 3.5 in four weeks. emoticon Solid healthy slow progress that won't send your metabolism into starvation mode. emoticon Congrats on getting consistent daily 7000 steps and eating well. emoticon

thank you for acknowledging my no binge progress. emoticon That is my biggest challenge. emoticon

Glad that you had a great talk with your dh. You really supported him with listening first and then problem solving. emoticon It's wonderful how receiving support and giving support help reduce stress and nourish healthy lifetime habits. I am grateful for spark people emoticon emoticon emoticon

Coolrain thank you for your support. emoticon you are really getting the exercise in. emoticon Your example and posts help motivate me to get out there and walk and mow the lawn and garden (aka pulling weeds emoticon ). Thank you especially for acknowledging my no binge night. You are the emoticon

It really helps to share goals and progress and support. After reading your post I feel emboldened to do more. I have a total of 3 no binge nights again. My goal this week is four no binge nights. If I conquer this unhealthy compulsion and stay mindful (like Happymenow kindly reminds me) I really will reach my goal weight and fitness level.

Sounds like you have some pretty flowers emoticon blooming even in the hot season. Wonder what rain Lillies look like. Bet the mandevillas are beautiful. emoticon I wish we could grow them here but they don't survive our harsh winters. I'd like a blackberry bush with berries like you have too. But the deer will eat the new growth on them. I am testing a new everblooming strawberry plant this season. If it continues to do well inside the deer netting. I'll buy several more next season.

Glad you had fun perusing the seed catalog and planning/ dreaming about starting your raised veggie garden in August/ September. emoticon You are lucky not to have critters that eat a lot!!! emoticon

Will check in tomorrow for external accountability to report if I reached my fourth no binge night goal. I am grateful for your support. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon We are awesome. emoticon

Hey, everybody! I've been reading the posts, and each time I think I'll reply in a little while, and then I get distracted, and I just realized that it's been a long time since I posted. But here I am back again.

Marbeall--good for you with the no-binge streak. And it's great that your husband likes to dance with you. What fun!

Coolrain--your yard must be so pretty full of pink lilies. Here in Texas, we garden year-round, but this time of year is the hardest time to garden. My brother lives in Florida, and his neighbor always has a beautiful veggie garden when I visit at Christmas.

Kimmy--how's the cold? Will you be bicycling this weekend?

I'm doing well here. I'm getting my steps up above 7,000 on most days, and I'm eating well, too. I've lost 3-1/2 pounds in 4 weeks, and I'm pleased about that. We're getting some nice rain, too, a big plus in the desert.

My dh hasn't been sleeping well, and this morning he told me that he woke up at 11 pm last night and couldn't go back to sleep. He's not very good at talking about his feelings, but we actually had a really good conversation. He told me that he's feeling a lot of anxiety about the garden, the weather, how much water our well produces, and on and on and on. I listened, and then we came up with some ideas to divide the worries into little steps he could take to resolve them Then just before I went to work, he told me that the conversation really helped him feel better. So, I feel really good about that.

Have a great weekend, everybody. Drink lots of water and enjoy the weather!

Kimmy Thank you for your upbeat support and red shoe goodie. emoticon Really glad your dh is so supportive and that you are feeling better every day and getting rid of cough and stuffy nose. I am sending positive energy your way to breathe deep and make your training count. I believe you will do your best with whatever energy level you have on Saturday. I'm rooting for you along with all your friends and your dh. emoticon emoticon

Your are right my dh deserves (and is getting lots of) hugs for supporting me. emoticon He walks with me in addition to all the time he spends learning/relearning dance steps and practicing them with me. I enjoyed the dance Wednesday night so much I was motivated to bike for 30 with a friend and then learn a new step Thursday night instead of binging. I have a two no binge night streak going. emoticon

Your support spurs me on and sharing the progress builds enthusiasm my motivation to keep on keeping on. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello Spark Friends.

KimmyGa1, so good to see you're back with us. I've missed you. Sorry to hear you've been sick, but glad to hear you're healing now. emoticon Wow, I'm impressed with your 20 mile bike ride and blown away by the idea that you're trying a 50 mile one this weekend. emoticon Best wishes for a great success. Can't wait to hear how it went.

Marbealle, I'm so proud of you for stopping a binge and going walking instead! Way to go, girl! I'm jealous of you on two counts: 1) You're going dancing tonight. emoticon Lucky you! Sigh. and 2) Your garden sounds heavenly! emoticon My entire yard is suffering from neglect, and it will continue to do so for a while longer, unfortunately. It's been soooooo hot here lately, I don't want to go outside for any longer than I have too.

I'm hoping to have the back yard ready for garden boxes for veggies by August/September, when our major gardening season starts cranking up here in Florida. I also want to plant out some berry bushes. I spent a few hours this weekend reading the Southern Exposure Seed Exchange catalog, dreaming of my fall/winter/spring garden, and even next summer's lower key one. There's not much that will grow here this time of year because of the heat. Southern peas, sweet potatoes, okra, and not much more. Meanwhile, the only flowers blooming are wild periwinkles and rain lilies and a couple of mandevillas that I've somehow managed not to kill. Oh and my blackberry bush has a little fruit on it. Since the rains started, the rain lilies have gone crazy, and my front yard is a field of pink lilies. They're so pretty; I know some people would weed them out, but others would pay to buy the bulbs. I feel blessed I get them for free.

Well, back to work for me. Take care everyone. emoticon Remember, each and everyone of us is emoticon !!!!

Marbeall thank you so much for that nice post. I'm feeling better each day. My dh tells me every night tomorrow is going to be a better day and it has been true the last few days. Just hope I get rid of this stuffy nose and cough soon! I'm nervous about the bike ride but love how much confidence my dh has in me. He is so supportive. I think once I do this I will be able to see my potential and have more confidence in myself. emoticon
You garden sounds so beautiful! I can't wait to move to be able to plant a garden. I hope I have a green thumb. My lilies are all getting ready to open up and I'm so excited, I love them!!
I'm so excited to hear how supportive your dh has been especially with going on walks. That is awesome and he deserves a big hug,(from you) and pat on the back. emoticon
We were dowin the 40's yesterday, huge change for us and we even got snow in some parts but Saturday we're supposed to be back to 92. Utah has the weirdest weather! Just hope it's not windy. emoticon

Kimmy so glad to see your post. emoticon Thank you for your support. emoticon

Sorry you are not feeling well. emoticon Hope you feel better soon and are able to rn your 25 maybe even 50. emoticon Glad you have friends that will push and give you outside motivation when there's not as much motivation on the inside as you would like.

My dh does that for me too since I told him my mall walking buddy is really busy this summer. He will ask me if I want to walk just when i get comfortable on the couch. I answer "honestly no I don't want to but you know I will since you were nice enough to ask. " emoticon

Congrats to your boys. emoticon Sounds like they enjoying their summer. And congrats to you for walking over 13,000! Twice !! Last week. emoticon Sounds like your 5000 step Sunday was better then my 3000 step Sunday. Am glad we can focus on what went right.

My garden is responding to rain nicely. Strawberries, kale, basil cilantro spinach giant yellow marigolds small orange marigolds, red roses, lavender bell flowers, violet mountain sage , magenta foxgloves, purple irises and blue delphiniums are growing bigger and more colorful. O emoticon

Hope your open house goes well and that you get some offers. Am keeping you and yours in my thoughts and prayers. Take good care of yourself. Get well soon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Walked over 11,000 steps today. emoticon Although I went way over calorie range emoticon I stopped binging to walk tonight. emoticon My dh walked with me this morning and this evening. We plan on dancing tomorrow night after accompanying my brother to his appt. with oncologist.

Yes together we can do it. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Oh my gosh! I'm not sure what is up with me lately but once I erase that email that someone posts I forget about it. Luckily today while checking in I saw Marbeal's post about fitness minutes and found the thread again. I promise to try to be better!! It's taken me a while to catch up on everyone's messages but it was great to do! emoticon

First off emoticon emoticon AlpineDeb!!! You found a great thread and one where we truly support each other as you can see. Glad you've come back and working on yourself. I love your post about paper pusher, that's what I would consider myself sometimes too but totally understand the office job. My sister used to live in TX, hope it's not to hot but glad you can walk around indoors to keep cool. Keep checking back!

Jen emoticon I've loved reading your posts every day and to see how you are really trying. emoticon emoticon So proud of you for coming back and trying to do things each day. Sadly it doesn't come back overnight but we can work at being better and doing it for ourselves! I admire you and loved hearing from you again. Glad your DH has been better and supportive. I'm excited for your upcoming trip and hope you guys have a blast! Good luck with school too. It's always nice when work slows down a little too so hope it stays that way for a little bit for you.

Marbeall as always you are emoticon I appreciate you keeping this thread going and for working so hard. Congrats on your no binge days and hitting those 10,000 step days too. I had 2 days last week I was over 13,000 but then on Sunday I didn't even hit 5000. Sunday's are always hard for me. I'm jealous of your gardening and bet your yard is beautiful! emoticon emoticon

Happymenow hope you are doing well and that things are going well especially with your DH. Way to go with your exercising and for your continued efforts! emoticon I appreciate looking on the side of my page and seeing all that your doing. Keep making time for yourself and know I'm cheering you on! emoticon

Coolrain hope these next couple weeks go well with the soccer and good luck to your dh's team. Glad to see team USA win yesterday!! Maybe they'll face each other soon. Good luck on your training for the race and hope work slows down a bit so you can train more.

As far as I'm going I'm sick!! I haven't been sick in what seems like forever but got hit with a cold last Thursday and I'm done with it. And the bad part is being sick I haven't been able to exercise or train much. I have a 50 mile bike ride on Saturday that I'm not looking forward to and haven't trained enough for. I did my first 20 mile bike ride just over a week ago. emoticon I only committed to the 25 mile one but my group thinks I can do the 50 and said they would push me if they had too. What great friends!! emoticon Just pray for me that this cold goes away, I see improvements so hope within the next day or 2 it's gone. Jen, it was my birthday a couple weeks ago, thanks for the birthday wish! My dh's was last week and I threw him a surprise party though he figured it out and had me stressing the day of but it's done with emoticon My older son played in a tournament a couple weeks ago and won it!! emoticon emoticon They have done so well this year. My middle son's team not so much. No new team yet as we are just finishing up the season this week. It's been sad but the future looks good (I hope!!) His fall team he'll be playing on will be good and he was invited by another team who saw him play to join them for a week long tournament in July. Luckily it's close to home but brings in teams from California, Colorado, maybe Nevada and others?? My older son has played in in twice so it'll be a great chance for him to play in it as well. Hoping he does well which he has had a fantastic season even though his team hasn't. Ok enough praising emoticon
No luck on the house selling yet, just waiting patiently. Our realtor wants to do an open house Saturday so hopefully that would help us too. Our neighborhood has had about 12 houses for sale and a bunch of them have sold. So keeping our fingers crossed!! Sure love you guys!! I promise to be better about checking in!! You guys are a great motivation. BTW finished one of my challenges on Sunday and didn't hit my weight loss (only off by 6 lbs) emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Happymenow emoticon miss hearing from you! hope you and your dh are hanging in there ok. It's hard doing all that extra travel for medical appointments and trying not to stress eat. So proud of you. You got the exercise in and did the Saturday aerobics with mr. Cutie. emoticon Great stress reliever. emoticon emoticon

Please take care of yourself my dear spark friend and update us on how you are managing (or not). You know it's ok to vent here and get support. Sending positive energy for you and your dh emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sept2014 thank you for your encouragement. It's a real challenge to stop eating in the evening. It's easier to skip dinner than get started. but I don't sleep well because I get really hungry after going to bed.

Sounds like you've got a green thumb. emoticon Growing flowers? Veggies? fruit? It's wonderful physical activity out on nature. Katie kitten sounds delightful chasing butterflies. emoticon I miss my cat but not ready to get another yet.

Hope you find time to train regularly for the badass dash race this summer. Are you too far from work to walk there like alpinedeb? Good luck with your runs chin-ups etc.

You can do it. We can do it. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi all. Got through the weekend of hours of World Cup. I just sequestered myself in another room most of the time, but since I'd promised, I watched the Argentina game yesterday. I'm learning more Spanish, like how to say "Kick their butt!" emoticon

My son worked until after 7 Friday night so he could leave us with a working stove and oven. We're still in shock. It's been weeks that we've been without. Counter tops and a sink will be nice when we get them. Right now, we're cleaning out the upper cabinets (lowers were done two or three weeks ago), so we can sand and paint. I'm really looking forward to that! emoticon

Marbell, I'm so proud of you. Keep up the good work. I've been slacking off the exercising lately, so I'm gonna' do 30 mins. when I get home.

KimmyGa, if it's any consolation, my ex and I moved 22 times in 20 years--partly due to four years in the Air Force, and partly because we used to design and build and move into homes, and then we'd sell them, move out, and do it all over again. My motto was, "I don't do windows; I move." emoticon I actually miss moving periodically. I have more junk now than I did then.

Well, friends, let's have a kick ___ week. emoticon

Kimmy, hope all is well with you and yours. Been missing your upbeat support.

Did you find a new baseball team for your son? Hope they are having fun this summer winning games.

Hope you are getting more showings on your house during the main buying season now. Bet you have been really busy getting it ready to show. It gotta be tough to keep it ready with all the boys on vacation at home. Hope you all finding ways to having a fun summer.

Keep on keeping on spark friend. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Coolrain glad you are feeling better and back to work and back to posting here. emoticon Sounds like your in for some rowdy sports fan energy. Glad your dh has a passion for fun sports. Keep breathing deep and hope the high energy helps motivate to keep on keeping on.

It's amazing you can be creative and write grants in spite of the stress of living with remodeling chaos and your DILs health issues. emoticon Hope your grants are successful and your projects get the funding. emoticon

Feeling good about my 3 day streak of over 11,000 steps and 2 no binge nights last week. Will try at least 4 days of at least 10,000 steps and 3 no binge nights this week. Keep on keeping on. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello Sparkfriends,

Thanks everyone for posting lately. Sharing your thoughts, challenges and triumphs helps me feel better about mine as well.

JENTHEPEN, your DH story resonated with me. My DH has not asked me about my work, how my day was or how I am feeling for literally years even though I as him daily about his life. I spent years feeling hurt, unappreciated and mad but decided he figured I would tell him anyway and certainly anything important that he needed to know. So, I weaned myself off of sharing detail he obviously did not care about and years later still do not hear any inquiries. I understand your feeling of hurt and f rust ration and have managed by cultivating friends and hobbies that give me satisfaction and internal "approval". I am sure he really cares, just can't show it well.

COOLRAIN, I hope you are managing ok through the chaos of renovations, people moving in and your DILs illness, you have a lot in your plate. Wishing you happy thoughts.

HAPPYMENOW, motivation comes in the most wonderful firms sometimes doesn't it? Cute instructors are a major bonus!

ALPINEDEB, welcome to the group. "Pushing paper" is a critical role! Documentation makes the world go around, ensures things happen and keeps the world in track! Farmers markets are a fav place of mine. Fresh produce and the comfort that items are local therefore supporting area folks. Yummy too!

MARBEAL, congrats on curbing the binge eating! Once the idea of a snack gets into my head , it is a real challenge to ignore. Yay for you managing to do so. Keep it up!

KIMMY, how is the house selling going? Do you plan on moving far or just a small change of scenery? Either way, it can be very disruptive and know I am thinking of you sending positive thoughts.

Life here in Canada is rolling along. I am getting out into my gardens as much as possible and they are looking pretty good. Kitten Katie has grown like a weed and has turned into a cat who enjoys prowling in the ravine and pretending to catch butterflies. My part time job seems to be almost full time right now dispute to staff illnesses and vacations but it will settle back soon I hope. I have not been running as much or at the gym as much as I am busy but I have to step it up. The big BADASS dash race date is in less than 3 months and I must, I WILL be ready! Running, Burpees and chin-ups are on tap today.

Have a great day everyone. You are all emoticon

Jen, congrats on losing one pound. emoticon emoticon Every bit counts even if it's losing regained pounds. I'm trying to loose the same 10 pounds I've gained n last couple months myself.

How was your first WI with the WW scale? Do you find the additional % helpful? The Withings scale which I have shows %fat %lean or pounds of each. It's been a life saver when I see an overall higher number of pounds. I'm not so bummed when I realize I've lost %fat and gained muscle pounds that will rev up my metabolism and burn more fat

Sorry to hear your dh has been insensitive about showing interest in your work day. emoticon emoticon I hear that sharing about what you spend so much of your life doing 5 days a week to provide for the two of you was a way you could have quality time with him and feel appreciated. It's taking a long time to feel better because it really hurts when you test and confirm several times and he doesn't show interest.

Really glad you are able to look forward to date night. Hope it brings you closer. Congrats on having a great first week getting back into doing things for a healthy you. Especially with this additional bummer. emoticon emoticon

Your posts this week have helped me to stay more focused. Thank you Jen for staring this thread in the first place. This week I had two no binge nights instead if zero. Also this week I've had three days of over 10,000 steps. This is major improvement from last couple months. It's really great to see you getting back and making progress too. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi there!

Well, it's Friday, and my wi went well- down 1 lb (not that it shows on my tracker, since I'm still over my "reset" max), but at least I KNOW IT WENT DOWN. You gotta start somewhere.

Today's been a pretty good day, and it's datenight tonight, so can't get better than that.

Thanks, Alpine Deb, for your support, and empathy. It's funny how some people's minds work. My DH used to work on the railway, doing track maintenance. We would have discussions where he'd say "What I do is work, I am physically doing something, there's physical evidence of my having been there" and I'd say "I get paid for what I know, not necessarily what I do. That doesn't mean that what I'm doing isn't work. It's (at times) physically, emotionally and intellectually challenging, so please don't mistake what I do for a hobby." Maybe someday we'll all recognize that work takes many different forms, but if it's for the good of the community, society or the planet in any way, (or if it's good for a person's individual family without HURTING community, society or the planet) then it's VALID WORK. Well, this is better, now I'm feeling indignent, instead of sad. emoticon

Coolrain-sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well, but I'm glad you are back at it. Great job on getting some work done today. When we feel out of sorts, even that can be a challenge. Sounds like you will be having lots of fun over the next few weeks. Do you have any group gatherings planned to watch games? It's always fun to get into the swing of things, even when it's not really something you are terribly committed to. Other people's enthusiasm influences our own. emoticon

Well, I'm almost done for the day, and will start my weekend soon.
I'll touch base tomorrow, and plan to add some planned activity to my week starting on Sunday.
I'll keep y'all posted!
Jen

Hi all--
Haven't posted or even checked in for a couple of days as I was home sick. Feeling better today, back at work, knocked out a couple of very short grant proposals so far and now have to do some accounting work. Would much rather go home and take a nap, but it's not in the cards.
Yesterday was the start of the World Cup. Being married to an Argentinean means that's a REALLY BIG DEAL around my house. He was hoarse after the first game yesterday. I get to look forward to weeks of a lot of yelling every four years. This year he has a team shirt from Buenos Aires (where he was born), so he's really in the spirit. He'll be glued to the TV until it's over; I just hope he keeps cooking in the meantime. LOL
Hope all is well with all of you. Will post again on Monday.

Jen, your venting really hit home with me. I work in an office, dh stays home and farms. It's a set-up that works well for us. I provide a steady paycheck, health insurance and a future pension. He earns money and works towards our personal goals. But, while he talks all the time about the farm (which I don't mind at all), he's not very interested in what I do. A week ago, he actually told me that he considers his work "morally superior" to mine! Because he gets up really early and works the land, and I just push paper. That did not go over well. Yes, I sit in an air conditioned office, and you know what? I help young people get an education. Many of them will be the first person in their family to do that. He also will ask me to run errands on my lunch hour because he is too busy. Grrrr.

But we've been married forever, and I love him. It's just bumps in the road.

Hey all,

Marbeall- I'm glad your DH has been so supportive, and getting out and being active with you. My DH has been inviting me out on an afternoon walk this week as well, although I didn't go today, and yesterday was more of a "take the long way home" around the block after supper out at the pub across the street. emoticon Sorry to hear your mall-walking buddy hasn't been available as much, but at least you are getting some quality time with your DH, that's always a bonus.

Alpinedeb-so glad you decided to come back and join us! I know all about signing up and stepping back and then coming back. I've been away from SP myself for a few months, and am just getting my first week back under my belt. I really like your insight to "a diet for life" vs "changes that can be lived with for life". emoticon Perspective is everything, and when you put a positive spin on it, it makes it a more positive experience. Great job on starting with some "small" goals (I think any changes are big changes, because even a slight change can have a big impact down the road).

I'm feeling a bit down still. I think part of it is PMS, still. Some of it is due to a flippant remark my DH made a couple of weeks ago though. We were at a BBQ with some new friends, and I was talking with the husband. He asked what I had to do for work the next day (probably trying to figure out why I wasn't drinking like a fish!-he's a bit of drinker himself). I told him I had to go out of town for work, he asked what I had to do. At this point DH came in, doing something in the background. I told the guy I had to do a couple of initial inspections and a couple of complaint inspections. He asked what that meant "Like, what do you have to do for that stuff?". I started to answer, got about 3 words in, and DH jumps in and and says loudly "He doesn't want to hear about that boring stuff" and basically interrupted our conversation.
I had my feelings really hurt by that, this is something I do with 8hrs of my day, 5 days a week. It keeps a roof over our heads, helps keep food on the table etc. And he describes it as "boring".
Okay then. Well, now I just don't feel like he wants to know anything about my work day, so I've given up telling him about my day. When he asks how it was, I say something about "oh, same old, same old." "you know, I went to the office, I did stuff, I came home" or something similar.
I just feel really sad, because I used to enjoy sharing my day with him, and now I just feel like it's too boring for him to even want to hear. Now I don't really have anyone to share my day with, outside of co-workers, and it makes me disappointed.
I know I should probably say something, but 1-I feel like if he says again that no one wants to hear about my boring work, I'll be even more upset and hurt and 2- it's been 2 weeks, I should have just brought it up right away, but I couldn't do it at the BBQ, and then when we got home I had to go straight to bed to get up early for travel and 3-I don't want my feelings belittled, and I don't think I'd really believe him if he said he hadn't meant it that way. It's been 2 weeks of "non-responsive responses" to "how was your day", and he's not once asked for more detail. Well, okay, he usually asks if any of my co-workers were in, if I chatted with them, but nothing about what I actually do.
So, yeah, feeling a bit down today (probably more focused on this due to PMS, but it did upset me initially as well). Thanks for letting me vent here. For those of you who are new, my DH isn't a total jerk, just occasionally insensitive to how he phrases things. I still love the big dope, just a bit hurt right now.

Anyway, everything else seems to be going well. On track today, and tomorrow is my first WI back.
Did I mention I got a new Weight Watchers scale that measures my fat lbs, and %, water %, bone % and tells me where I am on the BMI scale? I've been steadily climbing since I bought the darn thing, so I'll be excited to see a drop, even a small one, tomorrow.

Well, I'm going to head to bed soon, so I better go.
Have a good night all! emoticon

Happymenow. Sorry to hear about your dh. emoticon It's tough to go through all that and also have to travel long distances to get testing. We travel a lot for appointments too. It's three hours of driving for my brothers oncologists.

Glad you are still maintaining your exercise and focusing on mindful eating. emoticon You are helping me remember to stay in a mindful presence when I eat too. emoticon Thank you. Keep on keeping on emoticon Sending you lots of positive energy my dear spark friend. emoticon emoticon We are doing it. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Alpinedeb glad you are getting the walks done inside when it gets over a hundred outside. emoticon emoticon Walking to work a couple times a week is a super green way to get your daily steps. emoticon Reducing your carbon foot print to reduce the weight. A win win. emoticon Congrats on adding freggies too! emoticon

Speaking of sustainable, I agree. emoticon healthy lifestyle habits we can live with for the rest of our life is what works. emoticon It's a wonderful way to sustain weight loss. Healthy habits lifestyle habits are helping me maintain wellness once I successfully establish them and the become automatic. Adding healthy lifetime habits gradually a little here a little there is really sustainable for life. Keep on keeping on. emoticon emoticon
