URMYSUNSHINE05 we would love to have you join our thread! emoticon Not sure but everyone must be busy as of late since no one has posted for a little bit. We'd love to get to know you more. Please tell us about yourself. Where you're from, you goals, what you're doing to accomplish them and anything else. We love new Sparkfriends! emoticon
We last weekend we went out of town for baseball emoticon and had a wonderful time. It was so warm ( I got a sunburn ) and just great to be into baseball again. My boys played really well and my middle son even took 2nd place in the consolation bracket. Now in just over a week we head down to Las Vegas for another tournament. He played last night and it was freezing! Silly Utah weather emoticon emoticon emoticon It was so busy with both boys playing and being in literally 2 different states that we only got a 10 mile bike ride in on Sunday morning emoticon but that was a great start! Need to keep up with it. Hope everyone is doing well and working hard on your goals.
We emoticon all and hope you check in soon, even just a quick note to say Hi so we know you're still alive!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

March 20th, Happy Spring!

Hi ladies, My name is Faye and I was looking for a new friend. Someone to just chat with from time to time. I have been with SP for a number of years. I belong to another group, but there doesn't seem to be much activity of late. It's hard when you go to check to see what is going on with your group and no one post for days on end.

So I was wondering if I could sneak in here from time to time. If you don't want me, I will understand and stay with my group.

Have a great evening.
Faye

Everything is full but we're hoping to make it through the night and find something somewhere tomorrow. Please pray we do otherwise we might not survive this weekend or sleep in our car emoticon emoticon I'll check in later but have a good rest of your week emoticon

Kimmy sorry I pushed post button by accident and can't correct the misspell on youngest son. My mobile version isn't my favorite. It doesn't have an edit button for some reason. emoticon

Glad to see you posting activity in the feed! Thank you for your wonderful support. emoticon I am focusing on feeling good about my four no binge night streak. Even though I broke the streak last night I have another chance tonight to add my fifth night toward my March goal of 12. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good luck with the baseball season Kimmy! Sometimes I miss my girls being younger, it seemed we were always busy doing something.

My calf didn't cramp up last night, thankfully, but I think it meant something was off because today my right hip was hurting so bad, I can barely walk. So I didn't do the treadmill today, I don't think I could've. Tomorrow I'll get on it, it might have to be extra slow.

Pam great work on the treadmill! Hopefully you didn't cramp up and that you keep it up emoticon emoticon emoticon that's all you can do is keep at it. I hope your husband is doing ok with the loss of his friend. emoticon

Marbeall so glad to hear its warming up there and hopefully you can get some outdoors walking in. I'm glad to hear your brother is I and that he didn't break anything. I can't believe you only sleep 4 hours at night, I would not be able to function. I'm in the office at work today and am dragging and can barely keep my eyes open. emoticon on 3 no binge nights do far! You got this

My DH and son were gone this last weekend so I worked on finishing our lockers we built and putting together a basketball hoop we got our kids for Christmas. They are loving that and hopefully we will get out and play with them to. My youngest had baseball tryouts tonight, hope they go emoticon well and I can survive this season

Thank you for the condolences, I only met him a few times but my husband knew him well. It was just scarry because he was only a year older then me.

I actually got on the treadmill today! 60 minutes, 2.5 miles. It's a start! emoticon
My right calf muscle feels like it wants to cramp up right now. I did stretches after, hopefully it doesn't cramp when I'm sleeping emoticon

Hope your brother is feeling better MARBEALL

Kimmy thank you for your support. emoticon Its great that you are able to get back into exercise with the weather warming up. emoticon Do you think you will do the run this year?

It will be warmer in the 40s and 50s this week for us as well. The ice buildup has melted off our walk, drive and road. So I will add some outdoor walks. emoticon

Thank you for asking about my brother, he fell but did not break anything so that is the good news.

One of my newer goals is to trying to destress and sleep more than 4 hours at a time. emoticon

Last night I got my first no binge night toward my 12 no binge night goal for March. emoticon will go for my second no binge tonight AND Im even in the lower part of my calorie range today. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello Jackie!! emoticon We're excited to have you as part of our thread! Hopefully we can be the support you need on your weight loss journey. What are you goals, what are you doing to accomplish them and tell us about yourself and where you're from. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Marbeall I'm sorry to hear your brother is in the hospital. emoticon What's going on with him? Hopefully you can de-stress a little and get back on working on those no binge nights. It's great to hear you and your DH went dancing and that you're mall walking too. This dang weather! emoticon I can't complain since we've had a very mild winter but puts a damper on things when you're wanting to exercise. I missed 2 days this week walking with my friend but have gone the last 2 mornings, it's been chilly!! But we're supposed to get up into the 50's for the next few days so looking forward to that. Please be careful in all you do! emoticon

Pam I'm sorry to hear about your friend passing away. How scary from shoveling. Take care and don't do too much. You know your body so just do what you're capable of. I'm sorry for all the snow you have to deal with. That is definitely a way to get exercise in, cardio and strength training.

My Dh and middle son went down south for Spring Training this weekend so I'm at home with the other 2 boys. Just got off work so I can spend some time with them especially since my oldest doesn't have school today. And I switched someone so am working tomorrow now. Have a fabulous weekend everyone and keep working hard!! emoticon emoticon

We emoticon our other friends who haven't checked in for a while too.

Congratulations on getting your exercise emoticon on the treadmill emoticon

We got snow here too and sheets of ice on the walk and drive. But dh and I practiced ldance emoticon yesterday at the mall and I walked the mall with Mary.

I got overstressed with my brother in emergency and have started March with binges at night. emoticon So, time to destress and plan no binge strategy for today and tonight. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Pam. It's great to see your post. Congrats on safely getting exercise shoveling snow without overdoing it. emoticon

I also used to weigh more than my husband and my brother. Acknowledging and sharing every bit of my progress, no matter how small, helps focus on the positive and keep my energy up to keep on keeping on.

You can do it. I can do it emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thank you for the welcome backs!

Well I didn't get on the treadmill but I shoveled heavy snow for about 40 minutes, I figured that would be a pretty good workout. I hope I can get out of the driveway tomorrow. emoticon

It was scarry shoveling, a friend of my husband just passed away doing that, he was only a year older then me. That's all I could think of. There was more to shovel but I didn't want to over do it. It'll melt and hopefully soon!!

Have a great night, I'm off to bed now emoticon

Hello everyone!! emoticon Rockrs! Excited to have you join our thread. Please tell us about yourself. Where are you from, what are your goals and what you are doing to achieve them. We'd love to get to know you more. We're a very supportive group emoticon

Pam, emoticon we emoticon how did the treadmill treat you? Remember no matter how bad things get you can always start over. I've always weighed more than my husband, one day I'll be smaller than him. Doesn't help his weight doesn't fluctuate much. He started last night on the treadmill again. emoticon emoticon Know we're here for you emoticon

Marbeall way to go on achieving your no binge streak. Hope this month you're of to a good start emoticon emoticon

We got a good smore storm today so luckily my DJ got the treadmill set up but how boring!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Kimmy, thank you for your encouragement!!!!! emoticon You are so supportive!!! emoticon

Would have had 10th no binge last night but DH put a fresh loaf of organic whole wheat with yummy seeds emoticon on the kitchen counter. I passed through the kitchen after teaching last night and he said "wonder what this tastes like". My mind said "wait and find out tommorow morning" but my hand started opening the wrapper!!!!! Oh that slippery slope!!!! emoticon

So tonight I'm upstairs away from the kitchen and have achieved 10 toward my 11 no binge night goal for February. emoticon

One more opportunity tommorow night to make it 11 and hit goal!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Kimmy 80,000 steps last week is awesome!!!!! emoticon You are doing so well. Don't dwell on the dodge from extreme cold weather walking.

Just focus on your 80,000 step success and keep on keeping on. emoticon You are doing great using the fitbit to help motivate!!!!! emoticon

Glad you got some fruit to snack on too!!

I achieved 9 of 11 no binge nights. Only 2 more to meet my February goal. I still have more chances before the end of month to hit my goal. I really am motivated to hit it because I missed my January goal and actually regained some weight. So now is the time for me to keep on keeping on.

How is everyone else doing? emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

It's amazing how missing one day makes you feel so lazy, at least to me it does. It was supposed to be a very chilly morning Monday with a wind chill making it 0 so we opted not to go but my friend didn't text me ok until 4 am. So I woke up, got partially dressed and saw her text so instead of doing an exercise video or something I went back to bed and doozed. emoticon I think sub-consciously feeling guilty for not doing something else. Needless to say I didn't hit my 10,000 step that day, barely made my 6,000. I've been striving for over 10,000. Last week I did over 80,000. I love getting my weekly report from Fitbit showing me what I've done. I've just got to emoticon
Marbeall it's great to see you continue to hit your goals. emoticon on your no binge nights and hope you are getting even more so you can hit your monthly goal. Can you believe it's almost March? I went to the store yesterday and bought a bunch of fruit. Hopefully I'll get better with that now that I have them in my house. Have you guys been in that big cold spell going on? Thanks for always checking back on here. Wish we could get all our other friends back and reporting so we know how they're doing.

I like what Sept2014 said, start small and look for people trying to get rid of their stuff and it'll be cheaper because it can get expensive. I need to look at getting an exercise ball again. I have a co-worker who sits on one everyday instead of a chair. I should do that more to help build my core more. I have weights here in my office with me and I just look at them. I need to use them more especially since I rarely do strength exercises. I'm glad you guys went dancing emoticon keep doing your exercises to strengthen your back more. My DH wasn't happy Valentine's Day but kicked his funk in the afternoon and we went out to dinner and went and looked at couches. Got some delivered today. We bought some cheaper ones when we first moved in and they were a waste of money. Hoping to sell them and make a little money on them. If you have a Shopko by you, don't buy their furniture, it's cheap!!

A group of neighbors are trying to get a group together to do this Rivalry Run in August. Trying to decide if I should even try. I do not like running and can't imagine having to run 5 miles emoticon walking no problem. We shall see what gets decided. I hope you all have a wonderful day! Thanks for your posts.

MARBEAL, it is a great idea to build your gym-at-home! That way when you have a few minutes, or feel inspired, you can work on things without the need for a special trip to your local gym. I have gathered quite a collection of things but the basics are what you have already. Agreeing with Kimmy, I find an exercise ball (have a few sizes) to be useful in many ways. I work with TRX too. Maybe check out coach Nicolle's videos and see what she often suggests using? My favourite though is a foam roller. We have a love/hate relationship as it can hurt like the devil when rolling out really tight muscles but the next day you feel soooo much better!

You can go broke creating a home gym. I have found a lot of items at garage sales, second hand stores and classifieds. Often you can get almost brand new items cheap from those who (unlike us) have chosen to leave fitness behind in favour of more space in their home.

If you are carving yourself out a space in the home, see if you can find a large mirror. That way you can check your form as you go and avoid injury. Make it a comfortable happy space where you want to go, not tucked behind a furnace.... You deserve a great place to workout and you will see great results!!!!

Have a terrific day everyone.

Kimmy thank you for your support. You are dong so well with making morning exercise a habit. emoticon It will be so organized with those lockers into the mudroom.

We did go dancing on valentines night. My back hurt a little but we had fun. I just need to keep doing phys therapy exercises. The muscles will get stronger for less pain and also burn more body fat. I'm thinking about an exercise ball. Thank you for mentioning it.

Good new I dr no binge the last 2 nights. I'm gong for 7th no binge night for 11 total in feb. Happy hump day!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Marbeall you are so sweet with your comments. I'm sorry it's been so cold out your way. I really hate the winter!! Good luck getting back into the swing of things and for trying it your own home gym. I don't have much stuff. I have a bunch of exercise DVD's, weights, weight ball and bands. I need to get me a bigger exercise ball. Keep working on those no binge nights! emoticon You keep improving with those! I'm so impressed with your freggies, I stink at those! I hope you were able to go dancing. How is your back doing?

Sept2014 you've been missed but glad you found us again! emoticon I honestly don't think I could handle your winters. That is FREEZING!!! emoticon I'm always cold as it it even with my 20 degree or warmer weather. I would definitely say that all your shoveling counts as a great workout! Keep warm! You are such an inspiration to already be thinking about your Bad Ass dash. It is a lot of work and know you'll do so great with it! I hope the weather starts turning around for you so you can start that training.

I do find myself still motivated and doing my walks. My friend was out of town Saturday and Monday but still went out. Even got my DH (he offered) to go with me Monday. Tuesday I went by myself because my friend got home so late the previous night. It was a chilly 25 degrees that morning but still did it. Actually had one of my fastest mile times compared to when I was with others. I like to walk fast when I can but my friend and DH walk slower emoticon Still love them. emoticon Exercising every morning is a habit and I hate when I don't do it so I think I will keep this up. It helps when you have someone counting on you. I think it frustrates my DH sometimes but I've got to get it done, even on Sunday's (the day of rest) I still feel like I need to go for a little walk. We've been building lockers in our mudroom and started putting it together last night. That will be a fun addition and get those backpacks off my couches. emoticon I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's day/weekend! emoticon And that your week is going well. It's Hump Day! Make the most of it and get out there and emoticon emoticon emoticon

Selt2014 it's great to read your post Welcome back! emoticon Missed you! emoticon

I thought it was plenty cold here in Michigan but your temps sound unbearable!! Who would want to venture out in such severe weather unless they had to? Staying warm with Katie kitty would be my choice too!!!

I'm trying to start work outs at home. I'm going up and down stairs 10 times a day. My "home gym" in the basement has free weights (one gallon water filled milk jugs) and exercise bands. I put a yoga mat on my bed for more stability when I do my physical therapy exercises.

Do you have any tips for adding to my "home gym"? We can do it! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello my Sparkfriends!

It has been a very long time since I posted as I just got busy and lost all contact. So sorry that happened.

I hope things are going well for everyone and look forward to catching up with you all. Winter here in Canada is doing her best to keep us indoors and with temps in the -30 to -40 range, she has been winning. With the cold, it is so hard to get motivated to head off to the gym and after regular bouts of shovelling snow, I figure I did my exercise duty anyway. Curling up with my cat Katie is the best!

A coworker reminded me the other day that the 2015 Badass dash is a mere 7 months away. Oh dear, I must get out of this unmotivated funk and get back to training.. Must, must, must.... Maybe tomorrow. Seems I need your help to make me accountable or kick me in the rear...

Hugs to all of you! emoticon emoticon

Miss you all.

Sorry my last post had some garble but my mobile app doesn't show edit buttons like my desk top version. Will have to come back later when I can get to a desk top to edit and fix the garble.

Kimmy The mobile version is hard to work with and I accidentally hit post too soon. It's great that you are being so consistent with exercise. Do you enjoy it enough to keep on keeping on with the walks to make it a habit?

I'm battling SAD big time and have not walked since Monday with my Sparkfriend Mary. My other 4 buddies each canceled this week. I don't like walking enough to do it by myself. Love dancing but it takes two to ballroom dance. I have succeeded with 4 out fc11 no binge nights for february. Am focusing on five to thrive.

You are right it takes a balance of exercise AND reduced calorie intake to get to healthy weight. I am regaining pound this week because of night binges and not walking or dancing. I feel out iWhen life feels like it's out of control remember that you are the only one in control of your healthy habits of control but I am the only who can control my good habits. So it is up to me to get out of the winter doldrums by myself and focus on every shred of success to stay positive. Time to reread my goals and find exercise I like to do by myself. (I hate walking the mall but will do it with a walking buddy.) it is going to 13 below tonight. I don't walk in the cold and snow and ice here. Hoping to be able to go to a dance tonight.

I will be thinking of you walking and biking outside in the 50 degree weather. Keep up the great work We can focus on our successes to stay positive. Thank you for your support and encouragement here and on the Sparkfriend activity feed Kimmy!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I lost this group again and can't believe it's been so long since I posted or anyone for that fact. Where is everyone?? emoticon emoticon Unless I'm not seeing people's posts. How is everyone doing? Is every reaching their goals I hope? I have been walking consistently with my friend for about 2 1/2 weeks now. So tired at night but it's good to get it done first thing in the morning. The scale hasn't budged at all so my DH and me were talking and he weighed in himself and said I've got to do something. Granted he's only up about 7-8 pounds where I'm up 20 pounds from almost 3 years ago when I lost my mom. AHHHHH!!! emoticon I really need to start counting calories. I know I've said it before but am not happy with where I'm at. The weather has been beautiful here in Utah where we've been in the 50's-60's which is not normal but it has been WONDERFUL!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon We even took our bikes off the trainers and took them for a little ride on Sunday. I need to be better and try harder. I hope you're all hitting your goals and I hope that you all have a fantastic week-end and a Happy Valentine's Day!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Kimmy I'm glad you are feeling better now. Thank you for your encouragement. I'm focusing on "eight is great" as no binge mantra for today and tonight.

You and I are both doing exercises for the back. It'll take a while to get strength built up but I'm noticing more flexibility and sore muscles (the good kind of sore) just in one week. We are worth the effort.

Keep on keeping on. Congrats on 4 days of walking with your walking buddy. My buddies really help me to stick to it. Yay!!!!

Hello there! I can't believe it's been a week since I posted and since anyone has posted until Marbeall did. It must have been a busy week for everyone. I know for me the week seemed to drag on but now it's Friday. I got sick last Saturday and ended up coming home from a date we had going with my 2 brothers because I didn't feel good and finally started feeling better Wednesday. Luckily I never threw up but hate the blah feeling. I made the mistake of weighing in on Monday and then yesterday and was so upset and disappointed by what it showed. I can't believe I had gained that much weight. emoticon You know even with exercising that doesn't do much if you're not eating right. So I've got work to do! A friend asked if I was still walking and so she has joined me. We've gone 4 days now, so that might help me with keeping me accountable but I still need to start incorporating weights in and doing my ab workout for my back. I watched the Biggest Loser finale last night and am just amazed by how great most of them looked and thought I'd love to look somewhat close to them, so that's my goal! emoticon

Marbeall I'm so glad you checked in and to hear your back is doing so much better. What a great goal of getting those exercise minutes in along with your other goals. Don't get down on yourself with your bingeing. You have done so good these last couple months. Get those 2 more days and that will get you closer, then just set a new goal for next month! We all have set backs but you're good and picking up and starting over. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I hope everyone else is doing well and that you are working on and reaching your goals! Have a great weekend everyone!! emoticon emoticon

Hello everyone. Thank you for keeping on coming back to post here. What great support!

It's been tough this month with my SAD. I've binged the last 2 weeks and only have 7 of my 11 no binge night goal for January.

But I will focus on the positive now. I achieved my monthly exercise goal of 2500 minutes. I have been pretty consistent with 10 daily cups of water and freggies. I still have time to add two no binge nights before February.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I did not post in the last week or so, things were really busy at work, I had to finish a lot of things at home in the evenings. Hence, being under stress I did not make great food choices, I also had to entertain for work and eating out is not the best when counting calories. But I am not complaining, at the end of last week after the things calmed down my family and I went skiing, we had a great time and I managed to be on the slopes for 4-5 hours each of the days. I also ate out again (those french fries!!!), but it sort of evened out with the skiing. This week I started my strength routine again, and today I managed to walk/run for 30 minutes. What I am trying really hard to do is track again the calories, as I found that it prevents me from overeating. I thank all of you for posting, I get the notifications by email and it helps me to stay focused knowing that I am not alone in this journey.
I hope that everyone has a great weekend.

Hello my dear Sparkfriends!! emoticon I see from everyone's post that things seem to be going well for everyone. I would like to emoticon Dinaoreilly to our group! It's great to see your posts and motivation. I was thinking about you as I was getting ready and about all your walking you do. And just thought, WOW! emoticon That's great you can do that and it seems like you will be a great motivator for our group! I'm glad you found us. As for me I have been doing pretty good for the most part getting in my 30 minutes. I have a goal to work on strengthening my core so that will hopefully help my back heal. It hasn't been as bad lately but I really think part of it is my mattress emoticon I've been doing Turbo Fire occasionally and that has a 10 minute ab blaster, keep your fingers crossed. I'm hoping to get it healed before the weather gets warmer so we can start biking again. We've been having off weather. Haven't had a lot of snow emoticon (thank goodness!) but the temps are still chilly. I have gotten out and walked 3 days this week. I need to start tracking my food again too. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Marbeall how's the back? Looks like it must be better, you fitness minutes are going crazy! How's your brother? I'm glad that you're doing better so you can get on those walks with Odatt again. What good motivators you are for each other. How's the weather been out your way? What did the Dr say? I finally went to the chiropractor last week after an almost 5 month break (where did the time go) and was disappointed. He keeps getting new people in there and this gentleman was older but didn't do a whole lot of adjusting. emoticon emoticon

Jen it's great to see that even though you didn't check in for a week that you still did and were still conscious about being healthy. Way to go getting out on those long runs with your friend. I am hoping I can kindof start liking running a little. I did add a little bit of jogging to one of my walks this week. emoticon I can't believe how busy you are and don't know how you do all that you do and still have the motivation. Thank you for inspiring me and showing me that it is possible!

Pam- it's great to hear from you again and hope this week is going good for you and that you are still working on those goals!! How are those healthy meals coming? I'd love for you to share what you're making. emoticon I'm always up for new ideas even with a picky DH maybe it would be something he'd be willing to try. I'm going to make a White Chicken Chili tonight for dinner.

CoolRain how are you? Please check in. Love2My3, Petrusca please check in and let us know how you're doing! We emoticon Happy Thursday everyone!!

As a note on exercise, a contact whom I have never met from my FITBit group reached out and asked how I was building so many steps....I told her that I walk an hour before dawn where I listen to some motivating speeches/tappping/EFT/Crystal bowl music..I walk again at lunch time for an hour doing the same thing or some prayers... early evening and a late night one too...the 3+ hours a day of walking over and above normal activities has had me track 20-25K steps a day which has created some serious calorie deficit...Yoga is my mind/body healing go to technique and while not a major calorie burner, is very centering for me.....I have found that journaling has helped to get out the negative self-talk which I seem to do only too well :-( I have lots of knowledge and techniques to share with you all and I would love to....my biggest challenge is not in the knowing, understanding or even doing....it is in consistency....hugs

Thank you for the invitation.....it is the walking that has my rank so high on some of my teams which is surprizing but motivating too. I am living in Georgia and not yet back in my beloved Colorado but I do enjoy the woods. Stress and some rough times of recent has me walking non stop to help manage stress. I love yoga and rebounding too....I am excited to be part of an interactive team like this small group. If I can be of help to anyone, I welcome it with open arms.....Hugs to each of you....we are on this journey together and each of us is precious and working hard...I am delighted and honored to get to know each of you....

Hi all!

I bet you thought for sure I was a total gonner, totally fallen off the wagon again. Fortunatey, that is not the case. emoticon

I have just been run off my feet the past week. Between work, exercise, toastmasters, and school...holy crap man, I feel pretty busy. I can't believe it's been a week since I last checked in!!

Highlights this week: Tuesday- did surveillence outside a suspected illegal daycare, and after I observed her actually in compliance, she spotted me and started taking photos of my car, and placing a phone call. She then closed the curtain, so I couldn't see anything. At that point I left. She's not going to scare me off, but my supervisor suggested I leave her alone for a bit, so I'll wait a couple of weeks before going back.
Yesterday- went for a run in with a re-aquainted friend, and had a good visit, getting to know her better. She used to live in my home town, but I didn't really know very well. Funny thing is, it turns out my DH knows her BF from kung fu class. emoticon

Today I've spent most of the day doing school work, readings and postings etc. Had a minor fit when my desktop and tablet both weren't cooperating.

I've managed to stay on track for the most part on my meal and exercise plans, and foresee another good week ahead.

Kim- Thanks for checking in. I think it's great that you set yourself a wo goal. It's absolutely true that a 20 minute dvd is better than nothing, and I applaud you doing it! I'm also glad that you were open to adjusting the wo time as needed. Start with 20 minuted and build on it from there. When we take a break from our regular routine, we sometimes have to adjust our expectations , and start out slower than we think we "should". Let us know how your week is going, I always love hearing from you! emoticon

Marbeall- sorry to hear you hurt your back again. I hope you are taking good care of yourself, and allowing healing to happen. Make sure you comein ad let us know how you are doing! emoticon

Pam- so glad you made it back! emoticon I'm glad that you took the opportunity to make some suppers for during the week. I assure you, it is the best thing EVER, when it comes down to that meal time, and a lack of energy or enthusiasm for cooking, plus I find it cuts down on dishes through the week, cause I'm not making elaborate meals every day. What are your plans for this week? I can't wait to hear what'son the agenda.

Dina- welcome to the group! It's great to have you. emoticon Please come back and tell us about your goals and plans. We love to support each other and offer help where we can.

Okay folks, I ate some supper, and feel a bit more balanced now (I really should have stopped a coule of hours ago for a break), so I'm going to go check my school site, and make sure I didn't miss anything!

Have a great night, all, and I will check in again sooner than Sunday. Promise!!

Jen

Thank you for all the welcomes!!
Sorry I didn't check in everyday like I said I was going to. I didn't do anything different to help myself lose weight so I just didn't come back.
This week I have a plan! I have 2 healthy dinners to cook, I will have leftovers from these that should take me through the week. I'm going to the store today so tomorrow I won't have an excuse to not get on the treadmill after work.

I WILL check in tomorrow! emoticon

Wow it's great to see everyone's posts!!! Sorry I haven't posted recently. I hurt my back again and have slowed down a bit. Heating pad and rest have helped some.

So this is going to be brief. Will post more when I can sit pain free at the desktop computer.

Kimmy thank you for checking in on me and for the goodie!

Jen and Coolrain thank you for the goodies and encouragement! emoticon emoticon

Hello my emoticon !! emoticon Pam! It's great to have new friends join us and who want to make these healthy changes in their life! Thank you for sharing with us and for committing to checking in. We try and support each other so much and try to encourage each other along with way. Where are you from? What are your goals?

Jen it's great to hear from you even if it had only been a couple days. I can see your change and desire to keep doing better. You are doing an amazing job and are such an inspiration! I like your advice from an empty nesters perspective. It's hard to think or give advice when you're not in that part of life yet. Thanks for sharing what you do. I'm so impressed with how you do your meals and that your dh is still on board and eating that way with you. Keep up the great work! emoticon

Petrusca I am so sorry to hear about your sewer back up. I can't even imagine having to deal with that. I agree with Jen though that even though you didn't do your working I'm sure cleaning up that counted. Again agreeing with Jen pick 1 day a week to weigh in. I still haven't weighed in after the holidays and am scared to. But I need to so I know where I'm at and start working on it. Hope your week is off to a good start and that you hit all your goals. Remember emoticon

Marbeall we haven't heard from you in a while. I hope everything is ok. How's your brother? I haven't even seen your sparkfeed going . Please check in!! emoticon emoticon

Love2my3 Hope things are good with you. Please check in again soon too! emoticon

I'm doing good. Made a goal to exercise at least 30 minutes this week. Got to lazy and felt as though a 20 minute exercise dvd was better than nothing which it is but I need to commit to more. Just ready for spring and warmer weather! emoticon Thanks to all of you for your encouragement, desire and push! Happy day!

Hi all!

My apologies for not checking in over the past few days, it's been a busy few days around here.
I'm keeping on track, and doing well at tracking my food and water, and sticking to my exercise plans. emoticon

Petrusca- I'm sorry to hear that your knee was not happy about your run, that is very frustrating, when our mind says we are ready, but our body disagrees. emoticon I was also sorry to hear about your sewer problem! What a pain!! Not what anyone would want to come home to after a day of work. Even though you didn't make it to do your planned exercise, I'm sure the clean-up was a bit of exercise. I hope this week goes better for you.
Don't worry too much about the scale right now, that will come. Just focus on the skills and habits you are developing. If it's really tempting to get on the scale, maybe pick a weigh-in day once a week. That will allow you to focus on the important stuff, but still get the feedback regularly. Try to resist weighing in on other days.
As for food scales, I think it is a great idea to invest in one. I use mine so regularly that when I'm going away from home, I think about packing it (along with my measuring spoons and cups)! These have seriously been my best tools in ensuring my serving sizes are correct.I recommend going for the digital one, as it's just easier to ensure you are right where you want to be.

Kimmy!!! It's so good to hear from you again! It sounds like you had a busy and fun-filled time with family and friends. I'm glad that you got to spend the time with people that matter to you. emoticon emoticon
I'm sorry to hear that you hurt your back. Those kinds of injuries are so hard to deal with. I hope you are taking good care of it, and not rushing into anything. Once you've built up your strength you will have more time to worry about toning etc. Just take your time, you don't want to re-injure or make it worse than it already is. It's great to have a focus on your steps now, it gives you a measurable goal that you can work on every time you feel able. Make that apt. with the chiropractor! Do what you can, and eventually that will increase. Great job doing the exercise dvd's, they are a great way to be active inside.

Hi Pam! It's great to have you stop in. I hope you will get in o the habit of checking in regularly. emoticon emoticon My husband and I don'thave children together, and it is definitely a challenge to eat together and sit down for our meals. I find that it helps me eat healthier meals when I pick a few recipes to use through-out the week. On Sundays and Wednesdays I make a new recipe, so we have a selection of meals to choose from. Breakfast and lunch, I have made a menu for the week (I used SP's suggested menus to build my meals), and then I just buy the ingredients once a week. I put the breakfast and lunch together the night before, so DH and I are prepared for the day ahead, and I can get to work on time. (it helps that dh is eating my meal plan except that he gets 1/4 a serving more than I do). I'm sure that adjusting to the empty nest will take some time, but now (as Petrusca said) is an opportunity for you to focus on yourself, explore your own interests, and enjoy some well deserved time to figure out who you want to be in this time of your life. emoticon i'm sure your kids would love to know that you aren't sad and lonely, and being busy is a great way to avoid those things!

Okay folks, I gotta go do some laundry and housework, and then make breakfast and lunch for tomorrow.

have a great night!!

Jen

Hi Pam,
Welcome! I am new to this place as well, but from searching around, I also found this thread to be very supportive. Although I am not there yet, I can relate to the feeling of missing the kids. My older DS will head to college in the fall, and I am already dreading the moment. I will have a second DS for couple more years home though. In my case I normally don't even have a sit down dinner as, as soon as I get home, the boys are so hungry (both are swimmers) that I immediately put their dinners on the table and I tend to eat standing moving around the kitchen (I am keeping track of it though). Because I don't have time to make anything quickly for me, I try to have roasted veggies in the fridge that I just heat up (cauliflower, Brussel sprouts) or humus, boiled eggs, cheese, carrots, sometimes I just grab a tomato, I know I am very hungry, but it does not last long, so I try to have healthier choices readily available. By the time I am done munching while I get everything ready for my boys there are no more calories left for me to use. I might take some chicken or fish from the diner, but definitely not sides.
Last summer I had a week by myself and honestly I found that I did not want to cook anything for diner, maybe a salad and a small sandwich. When I am by myself I tend to also read while I eat (I know it is not recommended), but it is not fun to just eat alone, so at least by reading I don't get bored. If you have extra time now in the evenings maybe you could try a new activity? Last year I decided to try to learn Spanish, my public library has this software under their electronic resources for many different languages, all you have to do is to use your library card to login and get access to free lessons. Each lesson takes maybe 15 minutes, I don't have time to do them as often as I would like, so my progress is slow, but I like that it is something new that keeps me busy. I hope that you will adjust soon, good luck with the weight loss and please check in for support.

Hello, this seems like a good place to be. I've been looking for a place to check in with others and get support.
I've been on sparks for awhile now, I've lost weight twice( once before spark and then once with spark) I'm on my third try now. I'd like to get to 120 or at least down to a weight that I'm not worried about my health.
My hubby and I are fairly new empty nesters (3yrs) and I'm having a VERY difficult time adjusting, my girls were my everything! My hardest thing is dinners, my hubby works late so he's not here for dinner and I have a hard time cooking just for myself. I know it's something I MUST get over.
I'll check in every day emoticon

Hi Everyone,
Today was not a great day for me, I ate too much in the evening, I came home early determined to do my strength training, but when I got home I discovered a problem with my sewer which backed up in my basement (not major, but sufficient to make a mess). So I had to deal with repairs and major clean up. At the end of all of this I had no motivation to exercise, plus I ate way more than I needed (extra bread of all things!). But here I am, I am making myself track all the crap I ate so at least I am aware about my mistake.
I enjoy reading about all of your progress, and I like that I can come and share both my frustrations and when I will succeed my success. Tomorrow is another day, I will try to start my day with exercise (this was the plan for today too, and look where it ended when I postponed exercising!).
For us is really cold tonight, tomorrow morning we will have -19 with the windshield, so indoors exercise.
Have a good night!

WOW! Why does time go by so quickly!! Just caught up on everyone and seeing all your posts. How great to see how well you're all doing so far with 2015! emoticon
I just wanted to emoticon Love2My3 and Petrusca emoticon It's great to see you checking in with the group and working at becoming healthier and making 2015 great!!

Petrusca it's great to see how active you are. Way to go at your exercise videos and trying to incorporate running again. emoticon Keep doing what you are and you'll start to see that scale move! Where do you live at? Sorry about your injury and hope that you're able to get to running again.

Love2My3 please check back in with us. Tell us your goals, what you're doing to accomplish them and where you're from and a little about yourself. emoticon

Jen it's so great to see you posting on here all the time again and doing so much to be healthy amongst your busy life. I was thinking the same thing about your DH's comment. When do you ever see each other? I can tell you are focused and determined! Wow even running in the snow! emoticon you are determined! I'm a wuss!!! I'm always so cold so once the temps dropped here I stopped walking outside and being in our new house don't have my treadmill plugged in, since my basement is unfinished. My our bikes are set up on the trainers we just haven't used them. I really need to kick it into gear emoticon I'm good if I get a 20 minute exercise video done. You are a great motivator! emoticon emoticon emoticon

CoolRain so glad your scale didn't budge, wish I could say that about mine but I haven't gotten on mine for a while emoticon You've been so busy over the holidays with family and that, hopefully time well spent! Glad to see you back on here posting and hope you can reach all of your goals too emoticon emoticon

Marbeall, the lady who's kept this thread going! emoticon I'm glad to see that even with the cold you move back to mall walking and with Odat emoticon I bet that helps keep you motivated when someone is waiting for you or relying on you. emoticon I appreciate seeing all your activity on the tracker. I need to get back to tracking everything again. Exercise (though I just rely on my Fitbit to update) but really need to start tracking my good again. Keep up on those No Binge nights!

As for me we went out of town between Christmas and New Years and it was nice to get away without baseball being the reason for our trip. We went hiking some but we ended up getting hit with a cold spell. Back at home we got hit with 6-8" of snow so down south we were in the upper 30's and 40's. Brrr still chilly! emoticon Came home New Year's Eve and had some friends over that night, then a big group of friends over for our Annual brunch on New Year's Eve and then my friends from growing up for a brunch a few days later. We celebrated my son's birthday, he's now 14! Crazy. My back has still really been bugging me a lot so I feel limited in some of my exercising. Need to get back to the chiropractor. They said I need to strengthen my core so that is something I need to focus on. I seem obsessed about my steps even though I'm good if I get 6000 in. So I don't focus on weights which I need to, lost so much muscle from CrossFit I used to do, not that I was ever toned. So many things I need to focus on and change. I need to make a list and start working on them. Hoping when it warms up I can try to start running again, even though it's not something I love. I'd rather bike. emoticon So here we go! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Happy Friday everyone and hope your weekend is a great one!! emoticon

Hello Everyone,
It is nice to have a group I can check in with. I managed to run two days ago, but my knee is not happy about it, I probably tried too soon too, too long. Yesterday I did not exercise, but I plan to do strength training tonight after work. I also tracked food, but my scale is not changing, I will try to reduce the carbs, or at least change them. My problem is that I love bread, and I cannot resist it. I will try to cut down to one slice per day and replace it with fruits or potatoes, etc.
How is everyone else doing today? I really hope that the scale will start moving for me, I am not expecting major weight loss in 4 days, but about a pound would be nice to keep me motivated. I am determined to stick with this, I might have to buy a kitchen scale to see if I am underestimating my portions.
Have a nice day.

Hello again all,

Coolrain- I would not recommend running in 1.5 ft of snow, I ended up walking 3/4 of the route, and what usually takes 38-41 minutes took an hour. emoticon My thighs are still objecting from Monday! Great job reinstating your lunch time walk. That is a great plan, and I'm sure your new fitbit will give you an extra motivator to move.
Don't feel ashamed to check in due to lack of activity, not checking in and not getting encouragement and support is WAY WAY worse than coming in and saying where you're at and what your feeling- take it from me, I spent most of last year doing that, and it did not get me 1 bit closer to my health goals. It left me with a closet full of clothes that are too small right now.

Great job on geting the activity today, and congrats on the scale surprise for the good!! emoticon

Petrusca- great job tracking your food and water! emoticon I also find that it helps me be aware of what, and how much, I'm eating as well.Your activity plan sounds great. You must be a great self-starter to do those dvd exercises so consistently, that is awesome. I am so externally motivated I tell my DH each evening before I go for a run that I'm going, and I tell the lady at the front counter at the gym when I'll be back, that way someone else is in on my plan, and I don't wan to be a liar, so I go...whatever it takes I say! I hope your run goes well tomorrow, and that you are able to take time to breathe at work.

I am glad you are not scale-obsessed, and recognize that good health and fitness is more about the physical outcomes than the number on a scale. emoticon emoticon

Marbeall-I hope you are doing well. I noticed you are at 3 days non-binge'ing-AWESOME! emoticon emoticon

Kimmy-hoping you are doing well as well. emoticon I noticed you got an award for activity minutes, great job! emoticon

As for me, it's been another couple of busy days, worked from 6:30 am to 4 pm yesterday, so was too tired for making morrocan stew. Worked on putting together a short speech for Toastmasters tomorrow morning. I gotto the gym before work and triedout the new machines, I like them, and look forward to figuring out exactly how to make a great w/o with the new equipment.

Today I forewent the idea of running outside and tried out the new treadmills at the gym. I haven't cmpletely figured them out, but still managed to build up a sweat. I admit I would rather be outside (hopefully by Friday the side streets will be cleared), but it is nice to have a back-up resource.

Work was another busy day, but I got quite a bit done, so I'm proud of that.

Tomorrow is my strength (gym) day again, then Toastmasters before work. I have to be at the courthouse at 9:45 to see if I'm on the jury, if not, back to work til 4:30, if so, court til 4, then back to work for 1/2 an hour.

I made a calendar for myself that outlines all my "must-dos" (work, tm, meal prep, housework etc) and scheduled in some study time most days. I am going to post a photo of it on my page, if you want to see how my days break down. I got the suggestion from a book I'm reading on good study habits. I like it, it is a visual representation of what I do...DH looked at it and was stunned, said to me, when I got home today " so, I guess I'm going to have to schedule a meeting with you to see you" LOL, I agreed, it might be a good idea!

Night all, off to do some school reading!
Jen

Hi all. Just checking in.

PETRUSCA, I think you're on the right path, both with what you're doing and with the way you're thinking. Good luck to you.

I'm happy to report that I was wrong about gaining weight over the holidays. I got on the scale this morning in the same kind of clothing I wore for weigh-in's before I moved my scale, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out I hadn't gained any weight at all! YEAH!
I'm slowly learning how to get my fitbit to work best for me, syncing with SP, etc.

I was really motivated by my friends' feed early this morning. Several of you had been up exercising at five something, my time. Got me up off my butt and exercising. Got in a 30 minute interval workout before work and another 15 minute workout on my lunch break.

My SparkFriends ROCK!!!!

Thanks all. Keep in touch! And Keep Sparking! emoticon

Hi Everyone,
I have forced myself to track the food an water, as it is the only way in which I stop snacking without thinking how much I eat. I also worked out this morning, 35 minutes, lifting weights, I am doing these DVDs Chalene Extreme, and I am in the Push phase where I use heavier weights, my max is 2x20 lb. I did not lose weight since I started (I am in month 2), but I am much more toned. Tomorrow I will try my running again, hopefully I can steal 40 min for the gym, my day is packed at work and if I don't make it at lunch time it will not happen (I have no excuses, at my work I have access at the gym and fitness classes at lunch time).
I hope that everyone else continues with tracking and trying to stay fit. My new way of thinking is that I try to work out to stay fit (and sane), but my weight loss will come mostly from watching my diet. Last spring when I trained for my half marathon I ran for four months lots of miles, but did not lose any weight because I felt entitled to eat more just because I "earned it". I am sure that I did not burn as many calories as I ate. Hence my approach to re-incorporate weights with the cardio, and treat exercise as a boost for weight loss, but not rely on it.
Have a good night.

Hi everyone. Hope you are all having a "Sparktacular" day! emoticon

I'm happy to report that though I'd not been exercising regularly lately, I have officially re-instituted my lunch time walk. I got a Fitbit for Christmas, and I want to see that thing work! Plus, of course, I want to get back to my healthier lifestyle. And then there's always the side benefit of seeing the scale going down. I see by the message board and by the friend feed that you guys are leaving me in the dust activity wise. I need to get on the ball, or I'll be ashamed to check in. Shame is as good a motivator as any, at least for me. So keep moving and telling us about it. It will help me move more as well.

Jen, I can't imagine trying to run in a foot and a half of snow. Here on the Gulf Coast of Florida we've been fluctuating between unusually warm weather (80s; I was wearing shorts and a halter top two days ago) to chilly weather tomorrow (chilly = 60s highs; picture me in a wool sweater), then back to 80 by Sunday (and back to shorts again). I'm not really complaining. Most of the days have been in the 70s (high 70s), and that's just about perfect for me. I'll complain this summer when it's in the 90s and feels like over 100 with high humidity. I used to love/live for the summer, but that was when I didn't work and was a beach bunny. emoticon Now I work and have skin cancers--from being a beach bunny. Ahhhh. The joys of youth! (Boooo. The agonies of adulthood!)

Well, everyone have a great day.

Wishing you all the very best!

CoolRain
