emoticon Vlacke01 and Garnda!! emoticon That is so nice for you guys to stop by our group and comment. Please keep checking back and let us know more about you. We love your encouragement! Please let us know about yourselves and tell us your goals.

Marbeall I cannot believe how well you're doing with your fitness minutes, no binge nights and everything else! emoticon emoticon You are such a great example and I love seeing all your activity! Thank you for your support to me and my boys. It's so fun to see my boys play and learn humility when they do lose. The house is great and getting ready for the holidays. Still trying to figure out where to put things like pictures. It'll be fun figuring out Christmas decorations. emoticon So weird to think that is only a month away.

Jen I'm so excited for your weight loss and how well you've dedicated yourself to getting back on track. emoticon This cold weather is killing me and my motivation to do any exercising. I'm going to try and make an effort to get outdoors more and walk. My husband and I want to try snow shoeing!

Hope everyone else is doing fabulous and are ready for the Thanksgiving holiday! Hope your day is active, you get some exercise in and enjoy the company and food! Appreciate all of you! My goal until the end of the year is to focus more on eating healthy/logging food and getting more exercise in!

LeighDollar- While it's been a few weeks since you posted, I hope you found lots of support on SP. I think starting and getting demotivated isn't a sign of failure, it's part of the journey that we're all on toward getting healthier. I guess what defines you is how you handle the demotivation- is it a day away from SP, or months? Is it giving up or "taking a break" from motivation and pushing yourself? I've done both, but I like the taking a break way much, much better.
This group seems very positive, yeah!, and maybe what you need to keep plugging away.
Best of luck, spark cheers, and positive energy heading your way! Demotivation is normal; re-motivation is too!!!!! emoticon

Kimmy thank you for your encouragement! Sorry to hear you hurt your back again. Congrats to your 11 yr olds wins. Condolences to your older son. Learning how to lose with good sportsmanship is a great lesson.

Are you unpacked and settled into your new home? It must feel great to have some organization and to be able to park in the garage. My dh is still remodelng so I can't park ther yet. Good news is he finished the bathroom. Yay!!!

Slowly lowerng the remodel stress. Still mantaining healthy habits water freggies and steps. Also making great progress with more no binge nights.

Keep on keeping on we can do it together!!!

Hello all! Man I lost this group again and had to find it. Looks like a lot of us haven't been checking in. I hope everything is going well with everyone. Jen way to go on increasing your run time! emoticon You'll be back to running your 1/2 marathons before you know it. Sounds like school is going well and I'm glad your DH has been so supportive and allowing you to get that study time in! emoticon emoticon

Marbeall you are killing it with your fitness time! I can't believe it! Way to go on surpassing your no binge goal too! One step at a time and you're doing it. emoticon job on your lowest weight for the year too. You are such an inspiration!

How is everyone doing? Reaching your goals?

I tweaked my back at volleyball the other night so my back has really been bugging me. No exercising for me but did clean my house good yesterday for my exercise, today nothing. Haven't been to the chiropractor for a couple months and am thinking I need to go. Almost done with work! Oh last weekend we went down south for baseball! emoticon My oldest team did not look good at all and we thought for sure they'd be playing for the championship. My 11 year old of course won it! This is their 4th tournament they've won as a fall team. It was really chilly too. We watched (the late) championship game from our car. So proud of him! Now no baseball for a while, I should take advantage of this more free time. Enjoy your weekend everyone!!!

Jen it's great to read your post!! Wow!! You're baaack on traaack!!!emoticon Doing great eating healthier!!! emoticon Congrats on your run/ walk training! It's great to hear how excited you are again!!! emoticon emoticon Congrats on your weight loss!!! emoticon You are dong great getting all the studying in!!!emoticon emoticon

As for me, my 9 no binge nights November OMAT is achieved. AND I surpassed it by one for a total of 10 no binge nights!! emoticon

I've been eating more carbs lately - changes to cold weather and SAD. So I'm going over calorie range sometimes but closing the kitchen early around 5 pm has helped no binges at night. I'm actually down to a new low weight for the year even after regaining 7 pounds. emoticon

Hey all,
Thanks so much for your support, and positive words of encouragement! emoticon
At least I don't feel like I was way off base to think my co-worker was out of line.

I have continued my healthful plans this week, increasing my run time to 3 min and reducing my walk time to 2 minutes. I have run 4 times this week, and shaved 4 minutes off my time compared to last week. Now I'm really excited to see what next week at run 4 walk 1 will bring! emoticon The eating plan has been going well, with planned breakfast and lunch, and a choice between 2 pre-made suppers. I've managed to stay mostly on track, with only 2 extra fancy coffee drinks this week (Wednesday and yesterday).

I only lost 0.2 lbs this week, but since a 2 lb average is typical per week, and in the past 2 weeks I've lost 3.2 (works out to 1.6 average a week), I think I'm right on track.

Sorry I've not been stopping in much. I have a mid-term for 1 of my Child and Youth degree classes on Monday, so I'm trying to review ALL my readings before then-9 weeks of multiple "acedemic style' articles...ugh, no wonder my head hurts.
DH and I have even agreed to a shortened date-night tonight, to give me more study time.

Tomorrow I have an 8hr first-aide course, so that's going to eat up a lot of study time!

I will do a proper check in soon, and I do appreciate all of you for the support and positive energy.
Thanks for being here!! emoticon emoticon

More power!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Tannerz welcome to the group of great support. emoticon Sounds like you are doing great on your wellness journey.

Did not binge for a 6th night in 10 November nights. 2/3 of my one month at a time (OMAT) goal is accomplished. Only 3 more to go to achieve my November OMAT. Then I will surpass my 9 no binge nights goal and build motivation to do even better.

I'm doing well with daily 10 cups water, daily 10 cups freggies but need more work on 10,000 daily steps.

How's everyone else doing? Together we can do it!!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I got a little creative yesterday. We are expecting cold weather to head down our way into the East Texas area. My southern bones are just not made for the cold! My husband and I decided to take advantage of the still warm weather and increase our supply of wood. We already had a couple trees just laying around so he cut them into logs with the chainsaw. When it came time to split them, my contribution to the process was when the time came, to place them on the chopping stump then put the chopped pieces in the wagon (understandably he does not trust me with the ax considering I almost chopped my ankle emoticon )
So, in-between setting logs on the chopping stump, I used them as weights and worked my upper body! I was able to get several reps of a variety of movements and kept my heart rate up! Fun and functional emoticon

Jen, what a horrible person to say something like that. Seems like this person may have issues of her own. You deserve a huge congratulations for how you dealt with the situation. Just thing of the positive - like the encouragement you now have to move forward toward a better lifestyle. Your story was inspiring.

Looks like there are a couple new people here - welcome! I know that I enjoy posting here. The encouraging support makes all the difference!

I am now getting adjusted to the work needed for my degree. emoticon The new pace is helping. I was able to not only turn in my work a little before the due date but I squeezed in a 2 mile walk today. I did not run since it has been a week since going on a run and I did not want to push too much. My horse is enjoying her mini vacation but she better look out tomorrow emoticon

emoticon Leighdollar!! So glad you found this great group and hope you check back often. Tell us about yourself! Where are you from, what are you goals, what are you doing to work on those, etc. We have a lot of new Sparkfriends on here so it's fun getting to know more people. emoticon

Jen I am floored your co-worker said that to you. They have a lot of guts to say something like that. I'm glad you told her what you did and am proud of you for starting again and doing this for you! 3 lb weight loss emoticon emoticon emoticon You are such an example to me for never giving up. emoticon I hope you start feeling better too emoticon

Tannerz sorry your week has been busy but glad you still found time to check in with us. emoticon on those dips, keep it going! Hope your weigh in went well today. emoticon emoticon

Marbeall I'm so proud of how far you have come with your No binge nights. What a great accomplishment. And so happy to hear you went to 90 minutes of yoga emoticon and then dancing tonight emoticon look at all those calories you're burning. You too are such an inspiration to you and I'm grateful for you. emoticon emoticon

Jae88z thanks for checking in as well. I added you as a Sparkfriend!

Well as for me. I went in on Thursday and had my annual checkup. It's been a few years since I had been in so it was good to finally check to make sure things are good. emoticon I figured they were since I've been feeling good. But labs all came back clear. I'm working today emoticon I've been weighed in and have seen what I've gained these last couple months. Honestly better than I thought since I feel like I wasn't eating well. Now to kick it back into gear and to honestly start seeing that scale go down. All I do is walk so I really need to incorporate weights emoticon I was doing pushups the other day and my arms were so sore. Good hurt right! Heading down south next week so am excited to take my bike and go for a long ride. Appreciate all of you and for checking in. I love having so many new friends too and miss those friends who haven't checked in for a while. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Jen what a hurtful thing your coworker said!!! emoticon I am so proud of your response!!! emoticon You are doing great getting back on the self empowerment track. emoticon I'm rooting for you. I enjoyed reading about your trip too. I'm so glad to see your posts again.

I binged last night but I am focusing on success to keep my energy and motivation up. I already have achieved 4 of 9 November no binge night goal this first week. I used yoga classes to help me not eat. Tonight I will have fun dancing instead of eating. I Need to get more consistent about 10,000 daily steps.

Hi All,

Well, it's been quite a week.

Last Friday I was walking down the hall to my office at work, when a person who works in the same area of the building stopped me and said "Are you getting fat?"
I, somewhat stunned, responded "What?"
She said it AGAIN!! "Are you getting fat?"
I, flabergasted now, "Yes."
She asks "Are you pregnant?" (note, she and I have had this particular conversation in the past, about pregnancy, where I clearly stated that I was not, never had been, nor ever will be, pregnant)
I state. "No."
She says "Are you sure you're not?"
I state "Yes, I've just gained some weight."
She goes "Huh. oh, yeah. Gained some weight. That's what I meant."
I said "Well, see ya later."
I walked away, and had a little cry over my lunch in my office...
Later the same day....
I'm coming out of my office area, and she's heading into the area.
She says"Oh, I hope I didn't offend you earlier when I asked if you were getting fat. I meant to say gainining weight...being politically correct about it, you know."
I said "Well, yeah, actually, I was a bit taken aback."
She says, " Yeah, I just meant are you gaining weight."
I said, "Uh-huh. Kay. Thanks for clarifying that." and continued on my way.
After work I got home, and had another little cry, mosty because 1-it's embarrassing to have someone observe to you that you've gained weight. 2-I'm embarrassed that people have noticed 3- I'm already aware of the gain, I don't need someone else pointing it out to me. 4-I'm angry with myself for falling out of my healthy activity routines.

So, after examining all my feelings about the interaction, I decided that if I don't want to be embarrassed by the weight I've gained, and I don't want to be angry with myself for not exercising as much, then I need to get active and lose the weight.

I have run my 5 k route Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and today running 2 minutes, walking 3. On this comming Sunday I'll start running 3, walking 2. I finally found my seed of motivation. I shouldn't allow another person's judgement of me to dictate what I do, but I can use it to examine my current feelings and what I can do to improve THOSE.

I lost 3 pounds this week. I know this isn't typical, but it was a nice little silent "f-u".
More power!!
I'll check in again soon!
Jen

I too, am excited for the weekend. I've been completely busy with work all week and have been falling asleep at 10PM the past two nights. My fiance thinks I'm crazy, we start watching something in bed together and next thing you know I'm fast asleep hehe.

I also think I've hit a plateau at the moment with weight loss, it's been a week since I haven't lost a pound or anything. I've been eating good and exercising daily, so what's going on body? why do you have to be like this!
I sucks since tomorrow is my weekly weigh in and the scale won't budge. But I'm pretty sure that's due to me forgetting to take 3 days of birth control and it thinking I'm going through that time of the month.. so at least I probably know what is doing it.
Also I've incorporated dips into my daily routine... at work I secretly do them... probably aroun 50-75 per day.
I HATE the fat you get behind your arms, like below your armpits, in the back.. so when you wear a spaghetti strap everyone sees it.

Anyway, hope you all had a decent week, sorry I've been MIA lately~

Thank goodness the weekend is just here! Between the time change and the courses I am taking I got off track from running. I am not going to let it discourage me, just need to adjust! Why in the world did I wake up one day and decide "working fulltime is not enough - I should get my masters".

No worries, just need to keep pace right?

Kimmy - I am with you on having a sweet tooth. So glad Halloween candy season is over but now all of the stores are already stocking Christmas goodies emoticon

Time to just cowgirl up - right??!

Tannerz way to go on the weight loss. See weight is so dumb since it fluctuates so much! Keep doing what you're doing and you'll soon be in One-derland! How exciting! Sounds like you're keeping things up with walking and eating right. That pizza sounds yummy! emoticon

Things are going well with me, really wishing it was the weekend already but unfortunately have to work Saturday again. Weather is supposed to be good so am hoping to get family pictures done but that will depend on my nephew's work schedule. I've never used him but he loves to take pictures. emoticon We only have a week until we head down to Southern Utah for a baseball tournament that both of my boys will be playing in. I'm excited to go down there and are taking our bikes too! emoticon I do need to get rid of this dang Halloween candy. I wish I didn't have such a sweet tooth.

Hope everything is going well for everyone else! Marbeall and Jen it looks like you guys are being active. Fatcrismatic thank you for posting on my wall. I hope you check in soon! Happy Hump Day!

Today has been pretty good, I said I wouldn't weigh myself for a month but I gave in. I lost 3 pounds, so basically 6.. because I had gained 3.. but yeah! woo! Getting pretty excited now. I sort of treated myself though, had 3 pieces of pizza today, a place near my house does whole wheat thin crust so maybe it wasn't as bad as I thought. I can't really track it since they don't have the nutritional information. I sort of just put a random one in, I'm over by 100 calories, and by the time I go to bed.. maybe 200-300 calories over. I'm not worried.. I walked on the treadmill a bit and I've been drinking water! :) 10 more pounds until under 200!!

Peggypa thank you so much on that post about clothes and fitting what you feel good in. We get a number in our head and it's so hard to go up but like you said all things fit differently even though I wish they didn't. I remember for the longest time being a 16, now I'm stuck in a 12 which I can't be upset with but still have work to do! I remember hating jeans and how I seemed to only be able to fit into some Old Navy pants which is all I owned. But it's great to be able to fit into other brands and know it was probably all in my head and I never tried any others. I love looking for the cute pocket ones now. emoticon I have big legs, thighs especially and seem to think I can only wear boot cut but need to maybe venture out, just wish I could get boots to fit where I can have my pants on the inside rather than the outside. emoticon emoticon getting out on that walk with your dogs too. That is great your daughter is in the same mindset as you and that you guys can be active and fit together.

Tannerz I know how frustrating it is but to me it almost sounds like the 11 would be a Jr size where 14 would be regular. Hang in there, Keep focusing on what you're doing and know what the scale will budge. Way to go on getting those dips and walk in too. It likes to play mindgames with us. emoticon

Marbeall and Jen how are you guys doing?? What about our new friends BmColley, Fatcrismatic, Irock999, 2Sarah4sher and MissJessicaho?? We love hearing from all of you! emoticon emoticon

What plans do you guys have for emoticon Halloween tonight? emoticon Not many for us, hit the grandparents house and then my older 2 are actually going out with friends trick or treating. I'm so grateful to hear that since we're in a newer area that they've found friends. Looking forward to the weekend. Have a bunch of friends from our old neighborhood coming over for a game night tomorrow night. Just need to take care of a few things around here to be settled a little more. I hate trying to decide where to hang pictures. I hope you guys have a great weekend, have fun plans and are active!

Peggy,

Just think about how even better you're going to look not touching the candy! Your hips will love you for it. ;)

I will be so happy when Halloween is over. So many people have a wide assortment of tempting candy on their desk.

Tannerz,

For the time-being she is not in a long distance relationship but soon he will move to Nebraska for school so we shall see.

Don't get too discouraged with the variation in the size of clothes. I agree, it is frustrating to fit in one size only to try on a different pair of pants and within minutes your size increased. It sucks emoticon I would watch "What Not To Wear" and learned a lot. One thing I learned is to not put too much emphasis on size so long it fits correctly and looks good. I don't know what size charts the clothing company's use but it certainly is not consistent. I would typically wear a size 10 for the longest however started creeping up to a 12 then 14. That is when I said enough is enough. One shopping trip I tried on several pants that were a size 12 and felt good to be heading back down in size. Then I picked up a pair of pants that looked great on the hanger and on clearance to boot. However the 14 was pushing it but the size 16 looked nice. The practical side of me said to buy them and to blow off the size as it is probably a reflection of that particular brand. Now they are a little loose which I regret not getting the 14.

My point, just as the number on the scale is just one component of the whole picture, so is the size of clothes. Wear what you feel good in and clothes that complement you. emoticon

Peggy,

That's great that you have your daughter pushing you to do fitness with her. New love interest? that's exciting. Are they long distance?

Well today is a bit better, I didn't touch the scale. I won't until the end of November or at least try.. maybe middle of November I'll check again. I've incorporated 50 dips daily at work into my routine as well as, 20-30 minutes walking daily with healthy eating. I guess I was sort of frustrated that I've been working so hard only to gain weight. Hopefully it comes off, I still look in the mirror after having lost 35 pounds and still feel as though I look the same. When will this change? I'm sick of pants, Sick of being able to fit in size 11s when some of my size 14s are remotely tight. Like what am I?! 11 or 14, it's annoying. Why can't they make pants that are the actual size. Stop making me feel good one day and like crap the next!

uugghhh - things are moving so slowly. I am changing things around by consciously doing an activity most, if not all, days of the week. I am normally active but now I am incorporating more into my normal routine along with eating better. I have been in a plateau for many months now. Granted, I have shaved an inch which gives me incentive.

Now that my daughter has a new love interest, she is getting onto my bandwagon of adopting a healthier lifestyle and she is keeping me motivated. Case and point, I was tempted to slack off yesterday but she reminded me that I can at least squeeze in a small walk. So we leashed the dogs and hit the road. On a positive note, our walk was copperhead free! Hopefully they will soon be going into hibernation.

Yum absolutely love salad, might run over to Farmboy tomorrow for lunch and make a salad for myself. Do you have farmboys where youíre at? I love their selection. Itís basically like a grocery store but more towards healthy eating and fresh produce. emoticon

I hate the treadmill too! But itís so cold outside. emoticon I end up taking my dogs in the backyard and playing with them for a bit but then I get cold and come back in. My fiance walks them more than I do lol, although our Husky does pull like crazy and the Pug almost imitates him but fails. emoticon

Wish I could get an exercise ball for my desk but Iím temporary so I donít really get much of anything. Would be nice to finally find a permanent job.. I had one before I moved but ever since Iíve moved here itís been hard. Grrr!! 1 hour left. :P weíre probably in different time zones because I finish at 5. Might go do a few dips. Itís hard to find a surface safe enough at home. Seems like everything I own is made out of plastic (but not really) haha!!

Tannerz thanks for the message. I did take a walk on my break and took my dog with me. For some reason it took longer than my morning walk does and it's less distance. I felt like I was being drug behind my dog too. emoticon I just had a salad for lunch, Tried to make that a little better which for me is hard do to usually. I love salad bars but when it comes to having them at home I struggle. I'm jealous you only have 2 hours of work left, can't complain 3 1/2 for me. I'm with you on the dinner thing. I just hate trying to think what to make. I have my few meals that I seem to always make but I need variety. I do have a picky husband so sometimes things are compromised for him emoticon no excuse! We're not big stir fry people but that does sound good. I also have a treadmill but hate it! But then I think a lot of people do. Plus just moving into a new house it's in the very basement that's not finished yet. So that could be challenging this winter with nothing to watch. I might even have to get an extension cord to get it plugged in emoticon I'll have the same issue with my bike on it's trainer. I might have to set those up in my office then I could watch something on my computer. I love that you did dips (without being noticed) I should grab my resistance band and do something with that. That is a plus of working at home, I don't have to worry about people seeing me. Even though there are a few people in the office that have weights there, one lady sits on her exercise ball too. Little things add up! Enjoy the rest of your day!! emoticon

Thank you Kimmy, Iím pretty sure it actually isnít weight gain but the changes from the strength training and I definitely need to up my fiber. So Iím thinking once I get that under control Iíll lose it pretty quickly. Iím finding it hard to get fiber because I hate all the foods that have it. Might grab some broccoli this week and munch on that. I enjoy this thread so of course I would post!

Glad things are going alright with you, the greek yogurt was definitely a better choce over chips and Halloween candy, maybe try to get a walk in at night, doesnít have to be very long, around the block to get you going?
Luckily I have a treadmill, so when winter rolls around I donít have to go outside in the snow.. although my fiance and I want to build a huge snow fort in the front yard just for fun.. (I think itís more my idea but heís willing to go with it. Hehe.

Today for me has been better, I did about 50 dips on my desk at work (without anyone noticing lol!) and walked 25-30 minutes through the mall while I grabbed my Tom Yum soup from Thai ExpressÖ the sodium content kind of sucks but Iím drinking a lot of water so Iím hoping it balances out, and Iím still under my daily sodium in-take so maybe Iíll be fine! Just actually thinking of what to make tonight has me stressed out. My fiance doesnít cook and when he does (he really really tries, but I donít let him anymore) the only thing he knows how to cook is unhealthy foods so I have to do it. Iím thinking a stir-fry, plain janeÖ with lots of veggies and chicken and rice for him, Iíll just go veggies and chicken.
Woot, 2 hours of work left!

Jen it's so great to hear about your trip and the fun that you had! How fun to go and be where your mum was and do the things she used to do. Thanks for filling us in! I'm jealous as it sounded wonderful and hope both you and your DH enjoyed it! A well needed and deserved trip for sure!! Way to go on the weight loss! I haven't stepped on a scale in a long time so should probably check in on that emoticon Sorry work has been a little crazy and sorry to hear about your wrist emoticon I'm hoping the Dr has good news for you and has something in mind that won't include taking time off work. I get carpal tunnel every once in a while and it's painful. Both my mom and brother had surgery on that and you'd think after almost 20 years at my job and on a computer I'd have it. But I'll cross my fingers that is something I don't get from my mom. (There are plenty of other health/body issues I got that she had too) Hope the Dr goes well and look forward to an update from that. emoticon

Tannerz keep up the great work and I love to see that you keep coming back and posting. That not only helps you but it's great for me and the others! emoticon emoticon Sorry about the weight gain! That is so frustrating especially when we work so hard. Take it as a small step back but don't let it get you down. Shove it in it's face emoticon Maybe the strength training was a shock.

MissJessicaho how are things going for you? I to am also glad to see you posting and creating those friendships we all need! emoticon

Fatcrismatic great advice for Tannerz and for encouraging me as well. Hope your working on your goals and achieving them!

For me things are ok but could definitely be better. I read posts and articles from SparkPeople and think I need that click in my head to want the change for good. i haven't stepped on a scale probably in a couple months and not looking forward to it. emoticon Going to the Dr next week for an annual checkup since it's been a couple years since I've done that. As I sit at home and work I think about what I can eat and of course the crap all comes to mind, chips, Halloween candy, etc. I did just have some Greek yogurt as a snack so that was a better choice. With me having more free time I should have more time to exercise but it still seems like things are going on every night, maybe there is and maybe I'm just trying to get settled still. I need to find my exercise videos and work on those (especially strength training emoticon) now as it's getting colder emoticon
Have a Sparktastic day everyone!!!

I'm trying! I drink 7-10 cups of water per day, not sure what it was. I put away my scale until the end of November before I start freaking out lol. I incorporated strength workouts two days ago so I'm wondering if that can change things? but I can't gain muscle that fast.

TANNERZ,
Keep the faith. The gain could just be water weight. Drink more water today and you'll be fine. Don't let a few pounds get you off track. Hang in there and think of how much better you feel today compared to before improving your health.
So smile and think "HAPPY! HAPPY! HAPPY!!"

Building my bucket list and enjoying the ones I've accomplished!!! I quit smoking and have visited 34 out of 50 states. But I want to see the grand canyon, smithsonian institute, eat lobster in Portland Maine, a train trip for two months down the east coast then rent a car to other states I have not been to in the South and have enough money to thoroughly enjoy Vegas or Atlantic City and I'm sure I will think of other adventures.

Well today I'm frustrated. I stepped on the scale (which I'm totally done with for a month) and apparently gained 3 pounds! like what?! I've been doing good. So why does it have to act like this?

Missjessicaho,

If you every wanted to try horseback riding, you really should. Being on the back of a horse, whether it is at a walk, trot, or canter, there isn't much like that feeling. I recommend it highly!

Jen,

Seems like you had an amazing time on your trip to Scotland. I'm soooo totally jealous. I've always wanted to go, well I want to go to a lot of places in Europe but that is high up there. I've only seen Germany and Denmark so far. Both were amazing.

Hope your wrist gets better as well. I know how much it can hurt, especially when you work with your hands for a majority of the day.

Hi Jen,

Thanks for sharing about your trip with us! I so want to go to Scotland. It's on my bucket list and I've been wanting to go like since forever!

I hope that your wrist gets well soon! Please take care and try to rest your wrist as much as possible! Would you be able to talk to your manager to work something out? To make things easier for you? emoticon

We arrived back home, and I had a few days to recover before returning to work.
School was already in it's 2nd week, and I had lots of catching up to do. I avoided this until the 1st weekend after returning, and then crammed for 2 days to catch up on readings and completing an assignment.
My first day back to work I had 3 complaints, all of which needed immediate follow-up. So, after addressing those, my supervisor told me that I was going to be helping out with applications, amendments and exemptions due to staff shortages in that area of our program.

I've spent the last 5 weeks basically tied to my desk, doing exemptions, applications and amendments. Not only is this my least favourite part of our job, but it seems that it doesn't much like me either. I had been having some wrist pain before I left for Scotland, and it's back with a vengence. Google and discussion with a co-worker who had the same thing tells me it's probably Tendinitis. The co-worker actually had to be off work for 6 weeks over summer (she was one of the people I was covering for before my trip). I have a dr's appt. on Monday morning, and Physio scheduled for after work. I am HOPING that I won't have to take time off, but I know that the best results for recovery is absolutely NO USE until the swelling goes down. ACK.
Not sure what I'll do with myself every day if I'm off for 6 weeks, but when I can barely lift my coffee mug at weekend breakfast due to pain, I know something has to be done. I've been doing stretches, re-arranged my desk to be more ergonomically correct and I've been icing my wrist before and after work for the past week. It hurts quite a bit, but I'm going to try to make it through this week as we have training Wed/Thurs on our new data system, and I need to be there for it.

School has been busy, but I am enjoying the readings we've been assigned. I have done 2 assignments for my English course (got a b+ and an A- respectively), and 1 for my Intro to Child And Youth course (got a b- ), with 1 assignment due for each course by the end of this week.
Back to school means more time on the computer as well, which is agravating the wrist. I use my tablet for reading most of the articles, and use my desk-top just for sending in assignments. At least I can hold my tablet and scroll with my left hand. The keyboard for my tablet is too small for typing up 500+ word assignments.

I hope to check in more regularly now, and am hoping to get back into a healthy routine. Food is going well, starting off week 2 of planned breakfast and lunch and healthy supper options. Still not much physical activity happening though. need to work on that more.

Well, that's it for me!
Talk soon,
Jen

Hi all,

I just wanted to take a moment to say welcome to all our new faces! emoticon It's great to see so many people stopping in-that is exactly what my intention was with this thread to begin with, and I'm glad others are finding it useful.

Thanks as well to Marbeall and Kimmy, who have stuck with the thread consistently, even when others (including myself) have disappeared temporarily, or even permanently. You ladies rock, you encourage and inspire every day. Even when I'm not here, I do think of you, and hope things are going well. I so appreciate your dedication to the thread! emoticon emoticon emoticon

As for me, well, life is busy.
In September DH and I had an absolutely FABULOUS trip to Scotland for 13 days. The experience really was unbelievable. The weather was fantastic, only 2 days when there was a little bit of rain, not what we'd expected for fall in Britian, and certainly not anything to complain about.

We spent our first 3 days in Glasgow, exploring the west end, near our accomodation, and Rutherglen where my mum grew up. So much fun, so many great experiences! The people are very friendly, and willing to help a tourist out. WATCH OUT if you are a pedestrian though, as it appears that pedestrians DO NOT have the right-of-way like they do in North America! We had a few close calls before someone bothered to let us know that when you are crossing a street without a pedestrian light you "pay your money and take your chances" (it's a gamble) emoticon
After 3 days, we rented a car (1 up from a mini, standard-NOTE- GET THE SMALLEST VEHICLE AVAILABLE and get AUTOMATIC if you can!) The roads are very narrow if you aren't on a free-way, and some roads that appear to be about the width of an alleyway are a 2 directional 60 MILE PER HOUR road if you are outside a town/village. I am not sure we will every truly recover from driving on those roads, but we certainly learned to appreciate our spacious roadways at home!

We arrived in Jedburgh, and made this our home-base for exploring the area for the next 7 days.
During our stay we explored all the historical sites in Jedburgh proper (an Abbey, Friary, Castle/Jail, and temporary home of Mary Queen of Scots) as well as surrounding areas (Fat Lips Castle-the only castle that was originally built by an ancestor of DH that is still standing/restored, Hawick, Denholm, Bedrule, Town-o-rule)

After 7 days, we headed back to Glasgow and gratefully returned the rental car. When we went back to the hotel we'd previously stayed at, we were informed that our room had been flooded, and wasn't available. Well, this was a bit of a panic, considering we didn't have a back-up plan...after a bit of panic and running around like chickens with our heads cut off, we stopped for lunch at a spot we'd been before for breakfasts and asked the waitress there what she'd do. She suggested a hotel about 15 minute walk away, so we walked over and managed to get a room for all 3 nights. After getting ourselves settled in our new "home" we went exploring the downtown area of Glasgow, walking up and down Buchanann St, which is the major shopping area of the city. Turns out, it was the major hang-out area for my mum as a teen as well! emoticon
This was the night before the independence referendum, and the Yes side was out in high energy to encourage the voters. This was lots of fun to see!
On Thursday (day of referendum) DH and took the train to Edinburgh and explored there for the day. It was exciting to walk the streets of the capital, seeing the parliament buildings and the Edinburgh castle as well.
Friday morning we woke early to learn that the referendum vote came out to stay with Britian, and it was a quiet, sad atmosphere we met as we boarded the bus to tour the highlands. We saw Loch Lomond ("You take the high road, and I'll take the low road..."), and took a boat ride tour of Loch Ness. When we returned to Glasgow the No side was out, celebrating their victory. There were people chanting and singing "Hail Britania", cops on horse-back and lots of police in cars and on foot, looking at doing crowd control and preventing riots. DH likes to call it a riot, but it seemed more like a lively rally to me. He likes to be a bit loose with accuracy. emoticon
The evening was charged with energy, and we soaked up as much as we could before heading back to the hotel to make sure we were all packed for our early departure at 5am the next day.

Happy Weekend everyone!

Am feeling pretty excited about a recent charity garage sale find. Just a week or so ago I dedicated a full 2 days to the job of washing and hand waxing the three family cars. What a big job! I just found an electric car polisher seemingly brand new and super inexpensive. Come spring when I put my convertible back on the road and tuck away the winter car for another season I will try this new machine out. If it works, it will save hours and hours and hours..... YAY!

Off to the gym this morning. Was considering a spin class but might just run instead and do some strength training. Will not be at my home gym (membership allows me to go to any of the locations) as today I need to be close to work as I have a short shift to put in.

Miss Personality (my cat Katie) has decided to flop down for a nap on my arm making this a challenge to type so, I hope everyone has a great day and remember that your goals are in your reach. Every day take a step toward them, big or small - each step counts.

Katie and I are rooting for you'!!!!!

Yeah buffets are pretty evil, but I'm sure you'll get back there in no time.. I think it's mostly from all the salt they put in it, drink plenty of water!

Hi TANNERZ,

Yes, we sure got to stay positive! But I'm sad that I've gained weight since I started going to the gym :( I'm guessing it's because of the buffet I went to on Tuesday... :(

Wow, that sounds like a really beautiful color! Hope to see it soon!

I have driving lessons on Saturday and Sunday. I've got exercise sessions and physical training session at the gym on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

MISSJESSICAHO,

I know how hard it is! haha. and not eating the things I love.. like.. sweet and salty popcorn! :(

Anyway, got to look at the positives and future. I'll only start looking better as I continue to cut out the garbage.

What is everyone up to for their weekend? I'm going to be getting my hair dyed! I'm so excited about that.. going to be going red with copper highlights in the back. :D

Thank you for the warm welcome - this is exactly the kind of support I am looking for!

I have been with SP for a long time however just recently I am approaching it differently. I just turned 50 though I am considered a very "young" 50. I want to embrace SP for the support, motivation, and education. I am changing my habits; not dieting but undergoing a lifestyle change. There are so many wonderful articles and success stories. I have about 30 lbs. to shed. I ride my horse at least every weekend (weather permitting) and thank goodness I live in an area (East Texas) where there is plenty of sunshine and the weather allows for just about year round riding.

I am now participating in the 5K walk/jog challenge and want to participate in a real 5K soon. I basically love anything outdoors (just have to watch out for copperheads in the spring and summer). I work fulltime and just enrolled in an MBA program (what am I thinking?).

I am looking for SP support and friends to give and receive motivation.

emoticon Tannerz,

Like you, I'm trying to get fitter. I haven't exercised in 6 years so I'm really unfit. I'm currently starting with walking too. I just feel so unprepared to progress to running.

It's emoticon that you feel good that you can progress soon! emoticon

Keep your eye on the goal and keep up the good work!

Thank you for the warm welcome, Kimmy!

I am 24 years old.

I've always been overweight since I was young. I stopped exercising after 18 years old when I got out of school. I'm now 24 years old, meaning that I haven't exercised in 6 years! My work is very sedentary so there's not much opportunity for me to be active.

Lately, reading all those health books and newspaper articles, I've gotten worried about what my health would be like when I'm 60 years old if I continue what I'm doing now. This thought motivated me to really take a good hard look at my life and examine how I can change my diet and be more active.

I think that getting healthy and fit and maintaining it is a life-long journey. Right now, my immediate goal is to reach 55 kg by end-September 2015. Initially my goal was 50kg but I realise that it would be unrealistic and unhealthy as it would put my BMI at a the low end of healthy.

I've joined the gym and started exercising with my personal trainer, who focuses on building my strength. As I haven't exercised in 6 years, my goal for the first two weeks, which ends this Sunday, is to exercise at least thrice a week. For the next two weeks, I will exercise four times a week. After that, I will exercise five times a week. I'm currently not focusing on the type of exercising I'm doing. I'm just trying to get more active and trying out the different exercise classes in my gym. Do you all think I should plan my workouts more? I'm really new to this so I appreciate any advice I can get.

I'm also trying to get healthier with my diet. For now, I will strive to maintain my "no sweet drinks" and "no fast food habits". I will add "No desserts" to be the hard habit I strive to maintain. I will work on this for 3 weeks first. If it becomes easy for me, I will work on the next habit.

I know that motivation is very important in this process. I found SparkPeople while Googling and hope to use this platform to motivate me.

Thank you for the warm welcome Kimmy, I'll tell you all a bit about me.

I'm 26 from London, Ontario, Canada. Currently engaged, it's been over a year but there are no dates set. I joke around that I wan't to be thinner than him before that happens (or am I not joking?! :P) Still got quite a way to go.

I think I've mentioned this, but right now I'm focusing on healthy eating and walking until I start incorporating running and strength training.. which is going to be soon I can feel it! I felt that when I started off too strong last time I crashed.. this time I'm sort of building into everything.

My Goal is to lose 60-65 pounds by September 2015. We'll see how that goes. :) Small goals, one at a time.

WOW I've slacked a lot on here and I'm sorry all my Sparkfriends. Going through and reading everyone's post and we have A LOT of new Sparkfriends! That made me so happy to read everyone's post and get to know all of you even more and hopefully support and encourage you as well. emoticon

emoticon Bmcolley, Fatcrismatic, Tannerz, Irock999, 2Sarah4sher, Missjessicajo and Peggypa!!! emoticon emoticon I love seeing all these new friends and can't wait to get to know you all even more! You've really found a great group who supports each other, encourages and is a friend! Please tell us about yourselves, your goals, what you plan to do to reach those goals. Together we can love and support each other to reach our goals! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Jen emoticon it's been great to hear from you and see you're back to running and eating better. Way to go on the 5k, baby steps right? I see you've signed up for a few more 5k's as well. emoticon Good luck training and keep checking in if you can. Can't wait to hear about your trip as well! emoticon emoticon

Marbeall thanks as always for your posts and keeping things going on here. Not sure why I keep disappearing. You are doing emoticon with reaching those steps, getting out dancing and getting your water and freggies in. Glad to hear you went dancing! emoticon Bet it was wonderful. I'm glad you've been able to garden still and bet it's beautiful! emoticon I did plant some bulbs for next spring last week. Hope things are going well for your brother still.

Sept2014 it's been great to hear from you and congrats on signing up for the Badass dash next year. What a great goal to work on to beat things from this years race. emoticon Sometimes we do get burned out but I'm glad you're making it back to the gym, just takes small steps. My back has been feeling better so I should start incorporating weights instead of just walking/running. For some reason I just struggle with weights but need it! emoticon

This week I've slacked off with my steps but last week had over 74,000 steps which was a great accomplishment. For some reason I've only been able to get in about a 20 minute walk in the mornings so need to work back up to my 30+ minutes. My house is pretty much in order other than decorating a little and getting pictures hung up. It's still weird to think we moved but am loving it too. I love my new neighbors! It's amazing how just moving not even far away you don't talk to friends as much as you used to. Makes me sad. But I'm off early today so am going to my old neighborhood to hang out and visit with some friends. We decided we needed to do a monthly game night. With sports on the low down right now we have been eating a home a lot more. I just need to sit down and do a menu so I'm not trying to think of what to make every day. I also need to start focusing on and tracking my food again. It's time to make that scale start moving again! I'm scared to get on there but need to face it and knock it in it's place!!! Thanks everyone for your love, support and friendship! emoticon emoticon

I think today will be a pretty good day, I ended up wearing my flats to work today which means I can possibly go walking at lunch. (I usually wear heels) I've also not eaten out once this week! homemade lunches and dinners. Can't say I'm not craving some pub wings right about now! even if it is almost 10 in the morning! :P

I'm still at 34 lost, although I did gain a bit.. but went down again. My fiance has even told me that I look thinner, so that's always a plus and so are my pants and those don't lie ;)!

Welcome to all of our new members on his awesome message board! If you are looking for support, a place to safely share your struggles (and triumphs), you found it. So many times we just need a gentle push from someone who has been there, or a pat on the back from friends that understand even the smallest successes can be huge! emoticon

I have not posted for a week or so and perhaps need a little push myself. I took a week or so off of my exercise routine after completion of the badass dash in mid September. While I have been back to the gym and it is fine when I am there, I am not feeling super motivated to go. Maybe the badass dash preparation caused burnout? (For the new message board members - Badass Dash was an event wherein participants ran 7 kilometres while completing 35 extreme obstacles involving things like scaling walls, mud pits and cargo net climbs - all on a ski resort terrain and this year in the cold and rain).

So, what do I do? Signed up to run it again next year!!!!

I will not let that 15' wall best me! I will climb over it with no help - all by myself next year! I will jump up onto the storage containers by myself! And, I will run further and faster next year than I did this year! There will be a lot of hard work ahead and I am not getting any younger, but with your help along the way, I will get the necessary work done to make it happen.

Off to work now with my gym bag in tow......

Have a great day everyone, whatever your challenge is, you are awesome and you can do it! emoticon

Hello everyone; I am fairly new here and would love to get support some how and I am not sure where is the best place to get this?

I have lost 13 pounds so far in two months and to keep it short, I have written on my page all my short and long term goals and all my challenges I have had to face and ones I face now that I could use some advise for, Such as how to manage shift work and keeping healthy and creating a work out plan for this kind of shifts that I am on. My shifts very from working till midnight to working until 2:30 AM the latest.

I would love to help others in there struggles as well.

It seems like I cannot search for anything, when I try it say's searching but it never goes anywhere which makes it hard to try to figure stuff out when I cannot search for answers.

I did join a group for night workers, but I am not receiving any support with this group, does not seem like it is very active.

I know I sound like I am complaining, but i am really just trying to understand how to find a group for support and motivation and how to get e-mail notifications when someone from a group makes a comment to a post I made?

So any suggestions or anyone looking for someone to join with to give and share help and motivation?

I was on here 4 years back and I loved it, and didn't have any problems with anything, but some settings have changed or I forgot how to use them emoticon

For the most part I have been doing great since I started 2 month's back. I set my goals small to start off with and had written down dates for when I would add more minutes to cardio, or start doing core exsersices and so forth. So far everything is going great, my road block started today, where I really felt alone in my efforts to loose weight and gain better health.

As time goes on I am finding more of a need to connect with others on this site and feel part of a group, or even just a friend to give and take and help each other out.

Hi all,
another brief check-in.
did not go for a walk on Monday, made Morrocan Stew instead.
Did not go to the gym yesterday, but DH and I went for an hour walk in the evening
did not go for a run today.
Will make a Vegetarian Mexican Casserole that will be for supper the next few nights, maybe freeze some for future use.

Day 3 of healthy meals, going well.
I cleared out all my favourites and groupings on Sunday, and have been re-building my groupings based on the meal plan I've made (ie: group 1: Sunday breakfast-fall winter menu, group 2: Sunday lunch-fall winter menu etc.). So far, so good. This way I'll be able to just "click a button" to list my meals with the actual ingredients I use regularly. Fast and easy.
Still weaning myself off coffee daily, down to 1 cup a day this week, using stevia sweetener instead of sugar.

I'll do a better update as to my trip etc. on the weekend.

Talk soon!
Jen

Hello everyone!

I'm Enya, I'm 26 and I'm looking for a type of support thread.. which this seems to be perfect. I've currently been losing weight with the support of my friend through texting.

I started this journey at almost 250 pounds, I'm 5'11".. so my ideal goal would be 150-160. I'm currently 213.. so I've managed to lose 34 pounds over the course of a few months.. 3 actually! not sure how I did it.. walking and healthy healthy eating it seems! I gave myself an 11 month goal but I know progress is progress so I'm happy with whatever! as long as it's a future of healthiness.

Hoping I can get much support from this group! and I will do the same :)

Bettie sounds like doable shirt term goals! How many of your 5 thousand steps by Xmas do you have so far? I wear the pulse to count my daily steps. My goal is 10,000 each day. I achieved my target 5 days this week which an improvement over last week.

Consistent exercise sounds like a good strategy to attain your weight loss of 15 lbs by February, I would be happy with losing 5 more pounds by my birthday in january 2015. Then I would lose the last 20 pounds by January 2016. My strategies are walking, dancing and reducing calorie intake. So I can get down to my optimal dancing weight.

I really like your goal to continue to love yourself and approve of your actions. A wonderful way to build wellness inside and out! I am kind of trying to achieve a similar result by appreciating every bit of progress I make and not getting down on myself when I fall short. This is difficult for me but getting easier.

Thank you for sharing you short term goals.

Please forgive me if my words left an unclear statement. I have recently experienced more support and caring than I have ever experienced anywhere. I have one SP friend who helps me be accountable, daily. I do the same for her. Friends are terrific. I would love to share my short-term goals: walk 5 thousand steps by Xmas, Consistently exercise to attain a weight loss of 15 lbs by February, Continue to love myself and approve of my actions.

Thank you.

Kimmy it's great to hear how happy you are. Sounds like things are working out great with everyone. Glad your youngest has found lots of friends. Hope you get some active fun in the sun this weekend.

Good luck to your hunting group!
Do you cook venison? My mom used to freeze the chops roasts and ground meat when my dad went hunting in the fall. I could always taste the stronger wild flavor when she used it in her cooking.

We will go dancing tonight. I have have been achieving my 10,000 daily steps the week. I feels good. Better mood more energy. Also did some gardening and getting it ready for winter. The foxgloves and canas at still blooming even though night temperatures are dipping down to low 30s at night!
