Hello NYJUST11,

Take that "knowing" voice and make her your coach, then do what she says. Resolve to delete excuses and counter them with positive affirmations. Replace the struggle with the glow of knowing every positive and healthy choice you make is building your self-mastery and moving you closer to your goals.

Honestly, I just woke up one morning and said I was sick and tired of being overweight. I have other reasons behind wanting to lose some weight but I am just so sick of it. I'm only on day 5 but right now I am super proud of myself for sticking with it this long

These replies are really good and ought to help. We all feel like "UGH- - I don't wanna" at times. For me, I need to just do something - 5 minutes of exercise ... and then ask a little more - eat carrots instead of crackers. Small steps forward produce a little jolt of success and that makes it possible to take another small step. That's how you build up momentum. In fact, I think using the word "motivation" is a problem cuz it sounds like some sort of magic stuff that is hard to find. In fact, MOMENTUM is something clearly within our power to generate. Try it!

You’ll get where you want to go as long as you are taking more steps in the right direction than the wrong one.

I think for me personally, my motivation varies. I have a rewards system for my scale-based victories and I work a little harder if I'm getting closer to one of those (you can see on my sparkpage). But truthfully, most days... I'm not "motivated"... I just get up and do it anyway. I never feel like getting out of bed early to run. I just get up and get dressed and get out the door. The motivation kicks in halfway through. I also try to find a new challenge in what I'm doing. For example, run a little further today or do 5 more minutes on this new machine. Sometimes I change my route if I get bored or download a new playlist to look forward to. I'll try a new class or bring a friend to workout with. Usually all I have to do is get myself to START doing the activity though, then I actually get excited about it.

I take the first step. That first step often is done without being motivated but because I determined that I would do it anyway . . . or because it is routine. For example, with working out, the first step is actually putting on my shoes and getting my keys to drive to the Y. I know though that often once I've taken that first step that I then find motivation to continue. In the Y example, once I'm there, I find motivation to work out from the people and atmosphere there.

Is knowing you want to be, but not taking that step to do. Ugh. How frustrating. I know what I need to do in terms of working out and eating right. I know I need to take that step over that hurrdle, but there is always an EXCUSE of why I don't want to and lately...my answer is "I just don't". How do you dig deep to find that motivation?
