Mary, so sorry to hear about your family. I hope they feel a little better each day. My prayers are with you and them.

Mary I thought there was something wrong with my computer . I phoned my sister up to see if her page was the same as mine as she is also on Sparks. She was so happy that they have made the page like this as she has trouble to see the letters. So it is a nice change to our page. Don't you think.

Wednesday, hump day so don't forget your water and track your food and get out there and do some walking.

I'm off at 8;30 to go and wash our dog. There is a pet store that lets us wash our dog at their store and use their sink for free. We have usually washed our dog with the hose as he is too big for the bath tub. So it will be a nice change to really give him a good wash.

The rest of the day we have running around to do. So I'll get my exercise doing that.

Stressful day. My sister is sick so I went to bring her to the doctor this morning. She was having a hard chill that lasted almost 2 hrs. Finally got her to the doctor's office, he took one look at her & sent her to the ER to get her stabilized, then admitted with e-coli in her urine. I felt so helpless that all I could do was try to hold her head up & keep her from falling out of the wheelchair. She was so weak & felt like she was going to faint. She was looking better when I left her this afternoon, thank God.

Finally got to call my brother this afternoon who is battling cancer. Last week he ended up in the hospital & had to get 5 units of blood plus tumors are now blocking his kidney on the left side so they had to put in a draining tube in his back. Thankful that he is feeling much better now although he has decided to stop the chemo because it was taking so much of his energy & making him so sick.

You join the main team and then it is broken down into smaller teams where we compete with each other. There is a limited time to join and select a team to be on. I encourage you to check it out.

Mary, I support a mission group at my church that goes to Guatemala to work at a clinic that has been built there. They work with all age groups. The description of the size of those babies is so sad as I compare our one year old grandson who weighs so much more. One of the things we send to the mom's and children is carnation instant breakfast for nutrition. What a blessing for you to travel there. So glad you enjoyed it.

We are experiencing much cooler weather here. I had to dig out flannel pj's last night to get warm for bed.

Gotta go - there is so much to catch up on since I was away.

Wow, it seems as though we have a new look to our page...or is it just me??

Theresa, it really WAS a wonderful trip. And the "mission" part of it was great too. We worked at the Malnutrition Center which houses 82 children. My group of nurses & 1 husband worked with the bed babies .. 7 months to 18 months old. There were 18 of them in that group. We fed them, changed, bathed, & played with them, cleaned the toys & beds every day. What a loving group of babies. I quickly became attached to one certain baby that was over a year old but barely weighed 10 lbs. She ate well, could sit up, but only laid on her belly when placed on the floor mat. We suspected she may have Down's but because of the language difference, we didn't find out for sure. One baby was hydrocephalus but the doctor denied it. Said his head was "normal". He also was 18 months old but barely weighed 12 lbs. These children are brought to the center by the parents who cannot care for them properly or have enough money to feed them properly. Once they are better & reach their correct weight, they do go back to their families. Of course the lack of proper nutrition causes them development delays, physically & mentally. They are well cared for there & the volunteer help we & other volunteers provide is so much needed as the "Nannies" that work there 6 days a week/ 12 hr shifts, really appreciate the help.

Margaret, our high was in the upper 90's today with heat index in the 3 digits & now we are getting thunderstorms. The lights have been blinking off & on for the last hour.

Well DH should be driving up any minute now so I better get supper ready. emoticon

Hi everyone. Another beautiful day here with high temp and high humidex. I had the air conditioner on full blast and I was still not feeling it like it should be. I must be coming down with something as I'm always the first to shut it down as I'm freezing.

I took my grand daughter shopping but we stopped by and picked up my other grand daughter and great grandson. It was an experience .

Got home and was so thankful for aircondition.

It was one of those weekends here where there was a lot of rich foods and snacking going on. The scale was not happy with me this morning so I really need to get on track today.

I'm going to do a little resistance training today and then a walk outside.

Glad you had a good visit with your family. We all need that at times.

I know that I sure enjoyed my visit with my "kids" in Guatemala. They were like my own kids when they spent time in our home so many years ago & although we had seen each other in 29 years, we just picked up where we left off. We had such a wonderful reunion with tears of joy & lots of talking & laughter. There were more tears as we said goodbye, not knowing if we'll see each other again, but praying that we will.

Hello all,
Just got back from a long road trip from Durango, CO to Bismark, ND and when I opened my SP I found a nice goodie from Mary - thanks all is well!

My sister and I took the road trip together to sight see on the way to and from visiting my son and grand daughters there. We drove 3033 miles and saw Crazy Horse Monument, Mt Rushmore, Devil's Tower.....to name a few of the wonderful things we saw. Most importantly I enjoyed the time spent with my little ones and doing things with them. Looks like I have a lot of news to catch up on after being away 3 weeks.

Right now I just need to crawl into bed and get some sleep. I did weigh myself this morning and found my weight to be 178. I thought I had gained a lot on the trip so that was a pleasant surprise.

I'll be cheering you on and trying to lose right along with you from the sidelines.

Hello ladies. It is so hot and humid here as well. I went to hang out the wash and then I vacuumed the house and I was done for. So now I'm going to get caught up on my crochet. The new great grandson will be here before I know it.

Agnes you can eat what your guess eat but calculate and measure it all before it goes into your mouth. LOL

Mary the groceries can wait for another day I'm sure. Just relax and try to get caught upon everything.

Has anyone heard from Lynn ,Char ,Linda or Bernie? It's been awhile hasn't it?

Good Morning all! Well it looks like we are only the 4 of us for this challenge but that's ok. We still want to do our best to continue this personal challenge of losing those extra pounds that we have accumulated. emoticon

Agnes, I agree, when we have extra house guests, it definitely is a challenge to feed them & still not indulge in all the goodies ourselves. Enjoy your guests & do the best you can to resist too many extra treats. emoticon

It is soooo hot today. DH went out to do a few things in the yard but didn't stay long as the temp was 96 degrees... a 20 degree difference from the weather we got use to in Guatemala. Think we'll just stay in today. Still tired from the trip anyway so I won't fuss about staying in although I do need to grocery shop, I think it will wait.

Today, is Friday & we are starting a new round of “If You’re Up, You’re Out” Challenge
Here are the Rules :
We start the first week by reporting in with our start weight. You may choose to clear your ticker for the challenge or at least update it with your current weight. Either way, I will keep a record of everyone's weight here at home. We weigh in EVERY FRIDAY & post our weight on the message board. As long as you maintain or lose, you remain in the challenge. If you gain or fail to report in on Friday, you're out of the challenge but are encouraged to remain active as an encouragement to cheer the others on until the next round. The challenge continues until only 1 remains at which time she is declared the winner & is rewarded by receiving a SparkGoodie from everyone else. The following Friday, we start a new round by posting our start weight again.
Sure hope you will join us. The more the merrier. Let's see how long this round will last!

Hello ALL!! We are back home...tired but soooo very happy that we had the opportunity to go. The mission trip was great. We took care of 18 babies in our assigned group. Fed, bathed & loved up on them all. The other week was such a wonderful time spent with my former exchange students from the early 80's. We laughed & cried tears of joy upon arrival & tears of gratitude & sorrow upon leaving but in between that time, we shared so many memories & made new memories to get us through until we meet again.

I did get sick with a stomach bug that I seemed to have picked up with the babies so the last 5 days was very carefully limiting my intake. As a result, I came back weighing less than when I left.

Hope all are still hanging in. I have not read any posts yet but will hopefully be able to scan through them after posting this message. Regardless, will be ready to weigh-in tomorrow!

Where are you from? Do you have any children ,grandchildren? What is your Name ? We are not very formal here.

I live in Quebec Canada. I have 2 children and 8 grandchildren and 2 3/4 great grandsons. The third one will arrive on September. I've been married to the same guy for 47 years and looking forward to many more. I retired from Walmart Last April and now I just try to get everything done when it's supposed to be done . I seem to run out of time everyday. LOL

Agnes and Theresa, I think I would like to wait for Mary as well . But why don't we weigh in just the same to keep us in line.

TNFLGAL, we have a little challenge called if your up your out. But I'll wait for Mary to come back and explain it all to you. She should be back this weekend.

Hi Margaret,

I'm doing fine, but can't seem to find the time to check in here as often as I'd like. We have constant company at home and work is very busy. That's just the way it is. Everything is fine, just very busy. I'm still struggling with getting into the habit of tracking. I know it's important.

Maybe we should wait for Mary to come back to start the next challenge, but if others want to go forward with the challenge, I'm game.

Agnes, your mission today is to get out of the office at noon and take in some of that beautiful weather. go for a walk and sit and eat your lunch in a park. Don't forget to dink your water and when you get home take a few minutes to track your food.

Hi Everyone,

Margaret, thanks for the reminder about tracking and walking. I know I need to do both. I have good intentions, but the follow through is the problem!

The weather is gorgeous here in Maine. Couldn't be better. Wish I could get out in it rather than seeing it from my office window! This morning I had fun watching some baby deer play together in my yard. They were so cute! Looked like twins.

Margaret thanks for the pep talk the other day about the tracking. At that point my weight was up from last week and I had not done any tracking. For the past two days I'm back on track with that and had a couple of good walks and today down half a pound from last week so I guess I'm still in! Tracking really does work, and we just need to realize that we are worth the time spent to do it.

Good morning everyone. It's weigh in Friday. I'm on the sidelines cheering you all on but I weighed in this morning at 237 that's a 4 pound drop from last week when I was up . Why do we stop tracking. We all know it works. But I guess we get lazy over the years. I'm going to try to keep it going.

Theresa, I hope we don't get the thunder and lighting here. It would make for a very long day with the dog being so scared of it. Today we watch the great grandson as well.

I hope the weather clears up for you soon. It can't be very pleasant for your hubby.

So far the tracking is still going on here and that hasn't happened in a long time. When I first joined Sparks I did it everyday. Now it feels strange a bit but it's getting there. They say if you keep doing it for 2 weeks it becomes a habit I hope I can keep it up .

Hi everyone!

Margaret we have the same weather here. The rain is welcome though as the air has been so smoky from the forest fires my hubby has to stay indoors on account of his asthma when the air gets bad. We are on extreme lightening storm watch for tonight so it could get worse before it gets better again.

Good for you for getting back to the tracking. I know it makes such a difference. I tracked all last week and had a nice weight loss. This week I've been busy again with babysitting grandkids and getting called to work to help out while others are on vacation and I have not tracked - the weight has gone up again! I'm getting into the bad habit of gaining and losing the same 10 lbs. I read an article that when you lose weight you lose some muscle as well as fat. When you put it back on again it is all fat. I think this means I need to get back to some serious strength training and get some muscle back.

Hi everyone. How are you all doing? It's a very rainy day here with high winds to go along with it. Thank goodness it's not thundering and lighting. Our dog is terrified of that and won't lay down for a moment.

It's hump day and we have anther 2 days before weigh in. I hope your all doing a great job tracking this week. So far so good for me. I've tracked everyday and hoping it makes a difference on the emoticon .

It's been awfully quiet this week on the board. Either we are all so busy or just to lazy. Hope your all doing well.

145.8 today - down from 146.6 I started tracking again and as usual it works...lol. I just wish I could continue to do it but I always seem to get side tracked and too busy.

We had a run in with a rattlesnake today so I'm feeling a little shook up.

All week I was up and down. Yesterday I was very happy with my emoticon but not today. I'm out . I'm up one pound to 241.

Hi all, just a quick note to say I have not disappeared, am just still not feeling quite up to par and it hurts to type still. I missed weigh-in last week cause with all my therapists and nurse and just 'stuff' ' going on I lost track of the days. This is Thursday night and I will remember to weigh in tomorrow. I have to get weighed every day so they can watch for water retention, so I watch the scales go up a little and down a little and so forth. Unfortunately, tomorrow is my 'up' day. Hopefully I am wrong lol.

Well, I am exhausted. Had a bad day the last couple of days. Nurse told me if I did not get feeling better to go to ER and get checked out just to make sure everything is ok. Doctor is telling me I don't need a pace maker right now. He wants my heart to finish healing and then see how everything is. Works for me.....

It's 8pm and I think I am gonna call it a night. Seems so funny to go to sleep so early when I used to go to bed and read for a couple of hours.....just don't feel up to it right now tho.

Have a good night and will see you all over the scales in the morning.

Thanks for the welcome backs.

Mary -it sounds like a wonderful trip and I'm sure you will greatly enjoy it.

Linda-We will always have sleepless night over our children. No matter how old they get, we still worry and for me I always want to fix things. Don't happen when they are adults but we try. Just keep them in prayers and be there if they need a soft place to land.

I have a house guest for a few days. Kind of odd but it will be ok. just need to focus on my new meal plans as well as other changes and not let the guest distract me with her issues.

Welcome back Char. It's nice to see you again. Glad to hear that you have finally settled in to your apartment. Moving can really send you for a loop sometimes. Getting everything settled and put away is a lot of work for us at our age and can take us a lot longer then it use to in our earlier days. Hope to see you posting more often.

Good to see so many still around. I've been gone for some time and sorry about that. it's been very trying lately but I hope to be back on track. I've not lost but at last I've not gained any weight over these weeks.

I have gotten more strength in my legs and so have started walking more. My daughter gave me a pedometer so I hope to track my steps and build up each day. So far I can only do about 2000 a day but am working to up that slowly. My dog helps as she loves to be out now that the really hot weather has cooled off. I'm sure next month will be hot again but for now it's nice walking weather.

I think i am finally getting used to apartment living. Still dont know many around here but I do feel alittle more at home.

Hope everyone is doing good and perhaps I can get back in the challenges sometime soon

Well it's packing day for me. Just wanted to drop in and say that you may not hear much from me in the next 2 weeks as I leave for Guatemala tomorrow morning for my mission trip which will also include a visit with a very long time friend of the family...she & her brother were exchange students in our home in the early 80's & although we have not seen each other in 29 years, we have kept in touch so I am very much looking forward to both aspects of this trip.

Also, let me report in with this morning's weight of 185.8 as part of my accountability to the group. I will do my best to stay on track as much as I can & return to plan as soon as I get back to re-lose any extra lbs that I may add while I am away.

Hi Linda, so glad you are ok. We were worried about you but then again I thought you might have been away camping. Are children sure do send us for loops some days don't they? If it not them it's the grand children. I think God put us here on earth to have children and to take care of them for the rest of our lives. Some days are better then others. But as Mary says we are there to help pick up the pieces and moral support.

Mary, sure hope you have a nice time on your trip, especially when your hubby gets there. I hope your mouth doesn't give you to much trouble while your away.

You know Mary your so right about us all being here for each other. It seems we all know each other pretty well and are there to help in anyway we can. We are great sounding boards to each other and it helps to get us over difficult times. I'm so happy for my emoticon emoticon .

I've been busy today but it doesn't show. I woke up at 3;30 this morning and I just got up from a small snooze. I 've got diner on the go and the gang should be arriving at about 5 for the meal.

Hello Ladies, nice to come & see a couple of chatty notes. I so enjoy being able to stay in touch with you here. I know we've never met but we all seem to have some common threads besides all being born the same year & battling our weight problems. I'm so glad we have been brought together here for such a time as this. Life often throws us those curve balls that seem to hit us in the face or behind the head because we don't see it coming. Yes, I can relate Linda. What else can we do but pray & also cry sometimes for the pain that our children bring upon themselves & inadvertently upon us as well. But life goes on & so must we.

Margaret, I am told that we will have wifi available at our mission point & although we will have very busy scheduled days, I should be able to briefly check in at bedtime...I hope. I am bringing my little netbook in hopes to be able to anyway.

I do leave early Wednesday morning & will arrive in Guatemala City shortly after 1 p.m. My "exchange student" now all grown up will be picking me up & I will spend 3 days with her & her family before the rest of the mission team get there. Then we will travel to the mountains where we will work with children at a Malnutrition Center. We will have an opportunity to take in some sights as well before the end of the week. When the missions part of the trip is completed, my husband will fly to meet me & we will remain with my friends for an additional 5 days, returning home on Aug 20th. He has never met them or been to Guatemala so I am excited that he was able to take some extra time away from work on short notice.

But tomorrow I have to return to the dentist to see what he says about this gum/tooth pain. I really feel that it is NOT TMJ, but the tooth itself as my dentist thinks. But I don't feel that the pain is any worse & do not want him to do a root canal 2 days before getting on a plane. I am going with or without the pain. It has become tolerable at this point. So we will see. Lots to do tomorrow. My suitcase sits open on the bed without anything in it so I need to start packing very soon. emoticon

Hi, Here I am at last. Sorry to be missing for so long. Our kids seem to be taking our time as two of them are having problems with their lives. Son has an ongoing problem with his bi-polar wife, and that has got serious with a court order for her to remain away from the house. Then to top it off my step daughter informed her father that she is leaving her hubby and two kids. We are blown away by that fact. No sleep again last nite. Can't believe all that is going on. Seems no time for comptuer at all.
Mary, hope you are feeling better with your mouth problems. You are such a busy lady with all your trips away.
Nice to still see some familiar people on here. I will try to be more active. My weight is staying about the same. My appetite is good these days and I have been feeling well which is wonderful. Just been enjoying my garden and staying close to home lately. Take care all you ladies and keep loosing that weight.

Down 0.8 lb today...I did see lower on the scale most of the week, but I'll accept that.

Off to see the chiropractor this morning in hopes of getting some pain relief from the neck & jaw pain as well as the headache. I'm a mess of pain today & don't think this rain & frontal system coming through as been any help. emoticon

Mary, sorry to hear about your mouth problem. It's sure not my favorite place to spend the day. I was traumatized when I was young at the dentist and I still fear the place.

Spent most of today in 2 dental chairs. My dentist & the specialist he sent me to are undecided if I have a fractured molar on my left lower jaw or if it's TMJ that is causing my mouth/jaw/ear pain for the past week. Starting a pack of steroids/anti-inflammatory meds in the morning & return to specialist Monday morning. Hope it helps before I leave Wednesday. Flying out early Wednesday morning for Guatemala for 2 weeks. Have a mission trip with a group of nurses where we will work in a Malnutrition Center with young children then will stay over for a visit in Guatemala City with our exchange students from the early 80's.

Thanks for posting the reminder Margaret. If the scale is as nice tomorrow as it was today I'll be sure to post a loss. emoticon

Good morning everyone. The reunion was a great success. nieces and nephews from everywhere showed up with their own children and their children. My great grandson kept me moving. We arrived on Friday morning and helped the hostess to get ready. We had sent things up a few days before so we would have more room in the car on Friday morning because my daughter in law was coming up with me and great grandson and 2 11year old boys as well. The trunk was packed . The floor in the back was packed. When they arrived on the Friday morning at 5;45 we were ready to leave . We got there at about 9;00 and then we started to prepare. We needed to take a trip to the stores for things that we had sent up before hand and got frozen in the fridge they had. There is always things that will go wrong at things like this so you roll with the punches and keep going.

My great grandson had to explore so off we went. You have to imagine this. my niece lives on a 62 acre piece of land. Her house alone is on 1 acre so there is a lot of grass to cut. Jamie (ggs) wanted to investigate so off we went. down the hill and over to the third padlock and then back up the hills to go and see the horses which were on the other side of the road . by the time I put him down for his nap I was ready for one as well. I have walked so much this weekend up and down hills that it shows real good on the scale.

We had so much fun I'd love to do it again . It was great to see the new additions to the family. We had them as young as 3 months up to 80 years young. their was 94 of us that was in attendance.

On the way home I came down with the flu. My daughter in law was up all the night before with it and I started it half way home. It hit very hard and kept me down for 2 days. Feeling better now. But it sure took a lot out of me.

It looks like it's going to be a good day. The sun is out and it's Saturday! Last night we had a fundraising event at work. I didn't get home til midnight, which is way too late for me. Almost forgot to check in today. Way too much going on...lol... between so much company and appliances breaking down I'm not sure which way is up. Anyway, we picked up a new dishwasher this afternoon so that will be nice.

Weight this morning was 147.2 Yuck! I need to get back on track. And, as I say that, I have a brunch to attend tomorrow. These things are never low calorie. Oh well, I'll make the best of it and maybe I can get a good walk in after that.

I weighed in at 205 this morning. Down 7 pounds since I went into the hospital. Not too bad for just laying around reading or watching TV when not in therapy 4 times a day huh.

Still waiting to see if I need a pace maker or not. Should know in about a week. I am still so sore with quite a bit of pain. They told me my breast bone is just starting to mend and I thought after 6 weeks I would be all better. What a shock to find out I am looking at about 4 more months at least before I am feeling back up to par. But the wait will be worth it. I am told my energy level with be fantastic. That I can handle.

Would love to chat awhile but it hurts to type. Not used to my arms being so close together. So I will close for now and check back again in a day or two.

Sorry I have not been as good about posting lately either. Allot going on here. But glad to see all you too.

Tomorrow, is Friday & we will start a new round of “If You’re Up, You’re Out” Challenge

Here are the Rules :
We start the first week by reporting in with our start weight. You may choose to clear your ticker for the challenge or at least update it with your current weight. Either way, I will keep a record of everyone's weight here at home. We weigh in EVERY FRIDAY & post our weight on the message board. As long as you maintain or lose, you remain in the challenge. If you gain or fail to report in on Friday, you're out of the challenge but are encouraged to remain active as an encouragement to cheer the others on until the next round. The challenge continues until only 1 remains at which time she is declared the winner & is rewarded by receiving a SparkGoodie from everyone else. The following Friday, we start a new round by posting our start weight again.
Sure hope you will all join us. The more the merrier. Let's see how long this round will last! emoticon

Theresa, we also had thunder storms here today. My dog really hates them. He shakes something terrible, he won't leave my side the whole time it's thundering and lighting. I hope you weren't flooded.

We had a terrible thunderstorm here today. Lots of flooding, flooded basements, road washouts, etc. More rain on the way for overnight and tomorrow but not supposed to be as bad as what we had this afternoon.

Hi all,
Just a quick note to let you know I am back. Spent a week in the hospital and 4 weeks in rehab. Been home for a couple of days now. I will check in later...dinner is ready and I am hungry. Looking forward to reading all the posts I have missed....lol

Mary I thought retirement meant we had more time. What a laugh. Maybe the ones still working have the right idea. At least on the weekend they get to do what they want to do.

I spent the day making a huge carrot cake for our family reunion. I have to send it up with hubby tomorrow as we won't have enough room in our car on Friday. I will have my trunk full of buns and bags of clothes. inside of the car will be full as well.

Hubby and son will be taking a load of things up to help with the party. Tables ,chairs, big pots and horse shoe games and others as well. I hope everything goes well and we have nice weather. We sure could use some prayers for nice weather if anyone wants to throw one my way.LOL

Hello everyone! We some busy folks with all the cooking, canning, weeding & working! We should be fit & trim with all we do but then we wouldn't be the group we are if that would be the case I guess...lol

emoticon Alice! Glad you found our little group. I'm from South Louisiana and happy to have you join us! The health problems do seem to join us as we get a little older but we must do our best to get them under control when we can. We do a "If You're Up, You're Out Challenge" here & we will start a new round this Friday. I will post the specifics on Thursday & we will start the new round by posting our current start weight on Friday.
