Hello just stopped by to wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS. I don't think I'll have any time tomorrow. The children will be arriving at about 7 am . They like to get an early start on the celebrations.

Theresa, sometimes we have to pass on the reigns to our children and start a new tradition. I'm not saying it's going to be easy for you to let go but think of it as a little holiday for yourself. LOL Listen to me I'm a great one to pass on advice . It's also my year to pass on one of our traditions as well and I don't like it one bit. LOL You never know we might just like the changes.

Good evening everyone!

It's been a baking day here as well. I baked some of my mom's old favorite recipes that we grew up on as kids. Love them so much. I'm glad I saved her recipe book.

It's Christmas you guys! Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed and tasting the Christmas treats is one the great things about the holiday. No guilt! Let's try to stay a little active and burn off a few of those treats during the holidays. I'm getting my energy back after that bout with the flu and walked on my treadmill for 40 minutes today....didn't break any speed records, but I walked....lol. Tomorrow will be better.

Mary I hope your knee heals up soon. I agree with Margaret that the weather can really make you feel you feel worse with regards to joint pain.

My daughter asked me last week if she could cook Christmas dinner at her house this year. They have just moved into a nice new house and finally have the space to fit everyone. It will sure be different not to have the gang here at Christmas but I'm sure it will be just fine.

Hi everyone. This week isn't going as I would have hoped it would. I've been away from home for meals and you know what happens when that happens. I took my 82 year old friend out this morning to meet up with one of our other friends just to get her out of the house for a bit. She has had a ruff time lately . She just lost her oldest sister and she took it very hard. She wouldn't go anywhere and she was closing in on herself if you know what I mean. So we went to Tim Horton's and she had a good chat with our other friend and I brought her back to her hubby who is 90 . He informed me he would like to take her on the new train that has just been opened up here in our little next of the woods. So that will be another little outing for her.

Agnes, I so agree with you about our goodies around the holiday. I've been trying to be good but I think I'm loosing the battle. It's fine to say we could have a little of it but we all know while we are around others who are eating the goodies and we are talking and laughing we are eating as well. I think it will be a new start up for us all in January.

Mary, sorry to hear that your knee was giving you a lot of pain again. I guess a lot depends on the weather . What do you think? I know when it very damp here I can feel it in my knees. It was nice of your daughter to fix your cupboard for you. That is always a chore I like to pass on to.

I think I have finally finished all my shopping. I told my hubby this afternoon that if I have missed anything well we'll just have to go without. I don't think I want to shop anymore. LOL

I agree Agnes, sometimes we just have to realize that we are humans that love to eat & enjoy holiday yummies just like everyone else. We have to allow ourselves some of them so we do not feel deprived & not fight guilt. We'll get back on track very soon. Yes we will!

DD & I finally went do some grocery shopping & came back home for her to clean out my can goods cabinet & re-organize it. Looks so much better. I can no longer bend down to do it so it was a blessing that she did it for me. Knee is doing better but still having more pain than I would like. Yesterday was especially a bad pain day but today was better.

Supper tonight will be soup & sandwiches.

Hi Mary,
I saw that message also, and it made me sigh with relief. Sometimes I think we expect way too much of ourselves. I've been trying to make good choices at each meal - treating each meal as a separate event. Even so, I know I'm eating a little more of the goodies that are around me. For example, at work we received a gift from a client - salted caramel chocolates. Now THAT'S a treat!

One of my daughters arrived yesterday. Just so nice to have her with us. Our other daughter will be here on Wednesday. Because we don't have grandchildren it will be a quieter Xmas than most of you have, but so enjoyable to have them with us. They both love to cook, so we can stand back and see what happens.

We are supposed to have torrential downpour on Xmas eve and day. We're stocking up on wood for our fireplace so it will be dry, and hope that we have enough movies around to keep us occupied. Somehow I don't think it will be a problem. I also have several books that are crying out to be read.

Was just reading an email from Chris 'SparkGuy' Downie & this is the great advice he shared so wanted to share it again here in case any of you missed it....

"Don't worry much if you happen to stray from your nutrition and fitness goals during this time of year. Do your best to make as many positive choices as you can to finish up the year and be ready for the start of 2015. And remember that short workouts -- even 10 minutes -- definitely "count" toward reaching your goals."

Sorry I'm a little late in checking in day. Had the grandkids (5 & 6) over to make Christmas cookies today that we will deliver to the residents at the nursing home tomorrow when we go sing Christmas Carols. They did pretty good & were so excited to be helping. The 5 yr old wanted to do gingerbread cookies so we did some of those too & let them cut them out.

I did weigh this morning at 186. Not happy about that but it is what it is. Not doing too well I'm afraid.

Margaret you're doing soooo well! Horrah for bran buds!

Agnes, holding during the holidays is an accomplishment! Enjoy your time home!

Dwayne, We all get caught up with life every once in a while. No sweat! You're doing so well also! Keep up the great work!

Linda, 1 lb is great! Sick hubby & a leaking roof is not good during the holidays. Hope he continues to improve & glad your roof is fixed!

Linda, I hope you don't get that nasty flu! It hasn't been fun. Congrats on the 1 lb loss, its terrific! I know what you mean about something always cropping up at this time of year - a couple of days ago our fridge decided to stop working.

I'm staying at 143.2 this week. I was down earlier but I know it was from the flu and have now rebounded back to last week's weight.

Hi to all, I am down to 173 this week. One more pound down.
I hope all the sickys out there get better really soon. I have been looking after hubby with a bad flu type illness. It really affects his lungs and heart. Scary stuff. So far I have been keeping it at bay. Hopefully will not get it as then the Christmas plans with the kids will be off.
Just came home from getting grocerys and picking up my library book . I think I'll spend the day reading and taking it easy. We have had pouring rain the last week or so and our roof was leaking. Had the roofers out and it is now fixed. Only the bill left to pay. lol Always something crops up at the time of the year.

Weight for me today is 219.5#'s. Congratulations to you Margaret. Now that's a great week.

Hi Everyone,
I apologize for not checking in more often. My husband has had a horrible cold for ~10 days, and I got it last weekend --fever, aches, chills etc. No fun at all. I"ve been going to bed real early to get rested but even so it's been difficult to get through the days at work. I'm feeling a bit better today. I'm looking forward to this weekend as i need to get a lot of stocking stuffers and on Sunday one of my daughter's arrives for the week. I am looking forward to seeing her and I hope we'll all be better by then.

I haven't been working on my weight. It's hard with all the goodies around. My weight this morning was 0,5 lbs higher than last week. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

I've missed about a week of checking in as the flu bug hit. Hopefully get back on track with tracking and eating. Weight is down a few pounds today but I'm sure it was the flu that is responsible.

Hi everyone, been gone since 8;30 with a friend who had to see a surgeon for a consultation . Just getting back now.

Breakfast was 1/3 bran buds and 1/4 cup 2% milk 104 calories, 2 fat, 25 carbs. 5 protein, 11 fiber.

Healthy Tip:

Almonds are good for your heart. The fat in this nut is monounsaturated, which helps lower your blood cholesterol level.

If going to a holiday party or restaurant, find out what's on the menu ahead of time and decide what you''re going to eat.

Slept in again this morning. Pain a little better. DH back to work & youngest DD here to help me today. Post-op appt tomorrow a.m. Breakfast this morning...egg beaters, 1 slice WW toast with 1 tsp whipped cream cheese & 1 tsp jelly.

Mary glad to here your on the mend. If your sleeping so much your body is trying to get back all the hours of sleep it was missing out on when you would only give it a few hours a night. LOL

It's been another day of baking again. I just sat down for a few minutes . Hubby took one look at me and said he was ordering out. In a way I was happy I didn't have to make diner but in another way I'm sure it will bring me up on my calories today. This week is going very well I think it's the bran buds in the morning. What ever it is I'll take it. I can't wait for Friday weigh in. LOL

I was finally able to weigh in this morning & it said 185.6 which is 0.4 higher than last week. I guess that's not so bad with my surgery & inactivity of this week. Trying hard to watch the calorie intake but also need the calories for healing. Been sleeping allot. No energy. Pre-op appt Tuesday.

Today's weight was 220.6#'s.

I've got to keep on pushing; falling behind on my Spark Goal weight and where I should be. Watching and keeping track of everything. Back to working out full bore; but having to take today off to pick up my son at the airport if he gets an early flight home. That kind of bums me out but I'll do something to keep busy.

Finally getting some rain here in So. Calif. Only hoping it's not so much it floods us out.

Hello all, seems we still have several of our team-mates that are still unaccounted for. Hope all is ok with Bernie, Deana, Lynn who have not posted in some time now.

Dwayne, glad you're hanging in there with us & that your calf is doing better.
Agnes, I knew you could loose that extra 0.5 lb!
Char & Margaret, hang in there with those holiday parties & calories!
Theresa & Linda, hope to see your reports today too.

My knee scope went well Wednesday. Came home with no pain until 4 a.m. Thursday morning when the beast awoke. Have been with no weigh-baring so using a walker to get back & forth to BR but it is tearing up my right shoulder which is the one I had a rotator cuff repair done on a few years ago. Now it's hurting almost as bad a the knee. Needless to say I cannot weigh in this morning on one leg or i would probably end up on the floor...lol Got to find some humor among this pain, eh?

On a positive note, my grandson will be having his pinning/graduating ceremony at 5 pm today from nursing school & i will be there because we have a wheelchair loaned to me for this occasion. Pain or not, I'll be there! I am so proud of him.

Still 190 today. Holiday stuff is making it hard to track and on really stay on track. So much is made with Gluten Flour and i love all the homemade cookies, Mom's apple struddle etc. But I feel so much better without Gluten in my system. Still not much of exercise, no room here an it's too cold to walk. Going to see about joining the Y after first of the year. If I can find a bathing suit!! Loved doing water exercises when I used to belong. They sure help as you can do alot in the water that you can't do on land.

Well hope all are getting ready for the big day. We have Grand and Great grandbabies to get for. We cut off buying when they graduate high school. Sort of sad but we live on a fixed budget. Instead all the adults play a game that just makes being together as a family more fun. Love that part of Christmas.

I'm at 141.5 today and that is good as I'm back to the lower weight that I posted a couple of weeks ago. Today is our holiday party at work and I will try to be careful. I'm happy that it wasn't yesterday or the scales would show it I'm sure. Margaret, I agree with you that it is really hard to track food at those parties.
I'm looking forward to hearing how Mary is, and Dwayne I hope your leg is doing better, too.

Yes Dwayne it is weigh in Friday tomorrow. How is your leg today? You were saying it was giving you trouble yesterday because you were pushing your DW around all day.

I didn't have a great day yesterday diet wise. I had a Christmas luncheon and you know what they are like. I tried my best but I couldn't track everything. But I might be ok as I didn't eat any diner last night I was still full from Lunch.

To day I had my brand buds this morning . About 1 cup of macaroni salad for lunch .Dinner was pork chop with 1/2 cup mashed potatoes and 1/2 cup of carrots along with 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce. I just have to put it all in the tracker and then I'll post an update.

Hope everyone is ready for tomorrow 's weigh in.

1511 calories
124g carbs
57g fat
122g protein
30g fiber:
day turned out O.K. I thought...just a bit too much fat; everything else was good.

Hope all of you are doing well...

Tomorrow's weigh-in day right?

Hi Everyone,
I'm not doing well with the diet. Too many home made goodies that are sitting right outside my office - cookies, brownies, and yes, even boxes of candy. Yesterday I did have one piece of candy and two cookies. I know it doesn't seem like much but I know that every calorie counts. I will do better today. I haven't been tracking either. It takes me some time after traveling to get back into the swing of things. Excuses, Excuses!

You are all a great inspiration to me. I will do better today.

Busy day but got allot accomplished. Wanted to check in before I hit the shower. Supper was a beef & bacon patty, cream potatoes & steamed stir-fry veggies.

Hello all of you;
Today so far I'm at 1,109 cal. 90g carbs 44g fat 87g protein and 17g fiber.

Did 30 minutes of cardio and 73 minutes of lower body strength training. Cardio time is
down since last weekend because I was pushing my DW around a Swap Meet in a wheel chair for 3 hours and my right calf is still sore. Trying to loosen it up and it seems to be coming along fine.

Fought the flu most of last weekend. Hope it is gone. So i didn't get to a scale friday but did today at the doctor with my sister. She is having heart issues and been keeping me busy with her appointments. No one else to take her. Anyhow weighted in and was amazed to find the scale giving me up. Not sure if was the flu, didn't throw up and ate normally so not sure. Maybe this Gluten Free is working somehow. Anyways will be sure to find a scale this friday. And hope that the pounds gone today stay gone.

Are we working on Fiber now? Guess I'm out of the loop again. UGH.

Hi everyone. Today I managed to get 20 fiber. LOL I started my day with the bran buds and lunch was macaroni tuna salad and I made a big pot of cabbage soup and I had that for diner.

Total calories is not finished yet but so far 582 calories,94 carbs.17 fat 24 protein and 20 fiber.

Tomorrow I have a Christmas luncheon. Hopefully it won't hurt to much. I'll try to be careful.

Hi there. I thought I would try to eat bran a week and see if it helped. So today my total was :

864 cal. 68 carbs. 32 fat 42 protein 18 fiber. Well I managed to get in the required amount of fiber at least. The rest of the pie chart didn 't look to good but I'll try better tomorrow.

Hi,
I got home last night from my trip and weighed in this morning - 142, which is 0.5 lb up from last week - not bad considering all the eating out at restaurants. However I did do a lot of walking. It's good to be home even though it's cold! Dinner last night was roasted chicken, acorn squash, mushrooms, egg noodles. I didn't really measure or track but I'll start today. I agree that it makes a difference in how I pay attention to what I eat.

I was born in '49, but knew lots of those born in '48 since they were the Class of 1966. In the 8th grade class of '62, there are seven who have passed away already. Joan W. died when she was 28 from cancer. Mike L., Reggie H., and Judy C. died from heart disease these past few years. Larry W. and Mark R. were killed in car accidents when Larry was 16 and Mark was 20. Renee R. died from cancer about 10 years ago. I think of all of them often, and realize I am lucky to still have today to work on changing my life. I'm never depressed because I know how much each one of them would love to have my day.

We went to a small town grade school and then rode the bus to a bigger town for high school.

My weight stayed the same this week - 143.2

Breakfast was yogurt and cereal , coffee with milk = 230 calories.

I walked one hour on the treadmill. Now off to get some shopping done.

Good Friday morning all,

My weigh-in today is 222.0#'s;

breakfast will be:

2 slices Ezekiel 4.9 bread with 2 tbsps. almond butter:
total = 356 cal. 35g carbs 20g fat 15g protein 11g fiber

Off to the gym shortly...hope you all have a great week-end. Question; should we check in with each meal, end of day or how does this work?

Hi Everyone,
I've been out of the loop with this site during these last few days of traveling. I have another meeting this morning, then it will be time to visit and have fun with friends and my daughter who lives here in D.C., then back home on Sunday.

I agree with staying with our groups and weighing in the last Friday in December. I also know that I did better with posting meals, so I'll start doing that today.

I'm neutral on the use of Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas, and I guess I use both at times. It's just nice to be greeted with a Happy or Merry greeting.

Thank you Margaret for your input & I do agree with you that we all seemed to do allot better when we were posting our meals. I will start back by posting my breakfast of 1 c. 2% milk with 3/4 cup raisin brand this morning, 1 small satsuma & later 1/2 banana as my snacks then early supper of BBQ pulled pork sandwich with 1/2 cup beans & 1/2 cup slaw with green tea. Will try to get that into tracker. I have no idea of the calorie count. I do know that after 2 weeks on the road my jeans are definitely tighter than I want them to be.

Regarding Merry Christmas greetings, I always reply Merry Christmas when someone says Happy Holidays. Someone a few days ago was ranting about that when they were told by a WalMart employee that they were told NOT to say Merry Christmas! Really???? You will try to sell my Christmas gifts but cannot say Merry Christmas? Well that is just not right in my book.

I'm good for weighing in both the last Friday and the 31st. As far as tracking; I'm good to go on that also.

I still say "Merry Christmas" and will from here on out. It was that way when I was born and I'm not changing that for anyone. Sorry if that offends someone, but really. I've been hearing so many ridiculous stories of being "Politically Correct" it makes me sad and angry at the same time! Off the soap box now.
