Hi All,
Just a quick check in to say hello. I went for a 2 mile walk yesterday, and my walking buddy wants to push us to 4 miles today. We'll see. The spirit is willing, but it is more than we've been doing.
Dwayne, I do hope that your wife health situation improves. It must be very difficult for both of you.

Good Morning '48ers',

Hope all are enjoying their Memorial Day week-end and remembering where this came from. I often think of this and when I served in the Army so many years ago.

Mary, my apologies for not giving you my weigh-in yesterday. I write a novel and can't post my weight. Where has the mind gone? Anyway, weight is 214.0#'s. I think that's down from last Friday, not sure, again, mind has left the building.

Hectic day yesterday. DW did NOT SLEEP the night before, so after I got home from the gym and running 1 errand she was all set to go have a test done and do some shopping. Also had to go by DMV to get her a new "handicapped" placard. We went through H*** to get this O.K.'d by our Dr. Don't know what the problem was as we've seen LOTS of people with placards that show no visible signs of being impaired, where she needs a cane to walk 20-30 feet and then if she has to walk long distances, ie: shopping, she has to stop every few minutes and just stand there and recoup. Hoping this surgery clears the problem and we can move forward. Praying for that right now and that it happens SOON!

Off to the gym now...

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Hi Everyone,
Just back from a 2 mile walk. Very nice. The early sunrise is getting me up very early, too. 4 am seems to be when I wake up these days. It is quite beautiful here today, and it's supposed to be warm (warm is a relative term in Maine, i.e., 80 degrees). Right now I'm sitting on my porch enjoying the birds chirping and the gulls doing what gulls do.

Caroline, I admire you for your political work. It's so important. Never more so than this year. Yes, it will take some time to figure out this retirement thing. The consulting work isn't taking a lot of my time, but I can see that I may want to wean myself of it in the future.

Best wishes to all,

Agnes

Hi everyone. I started my day very early as well Dwayne. But you beat me by a half hour. I left the house at 6;45 and came back at 1;30 to drop off some groceries and then I was gone again. I went with DDIL to fix her mother and fathers grave. We planted some flowers and then I was back home and back out to the hardware. Back home by 5;30 and hubby and I just packed up the car so I can take some wares to a garage sale that we will participate in tomorrow with my daughter.

Weigh in this morning seen me at the same as last week. I weighed in at 230.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Good morning Sparkies! Friday weigh in - 149 lb this morning. Maintenance continues. Feeling great! We are busy getting involved with local politics. Cleaning up the rental building and grounds to get the Democratic office ready for this years activities. (I shouldn't have mentioned my political preference here but what the heck!) I have retired several times and like Agnes, definitely a challenge for me. As a consultant I would get called frequently with offers to work more. Now I officially say no. I have decided not to continue with my CEU'S. My career & making money was my comfort zone now I have to feel good about me without the career. I wish now I would have had Spark to help me control my stress eating back then. Now I have the time to work on things that are important to me. My husband is far more political than I am but I have two issues I feel strongly about; health care (worked in the field for 40 + years) and the environment (doing small things all my life to save the environment from total destruction by our stupidity.) So I decided this summer & fall to dedicated volunteer hours to.possibly get a female president in office in my lifetime. Margaret -Mary & Linda feel better. This too shall pass. Bernie - my husband often looks fir alternative places for us to live. He recently looked at some property in E. WA. We gave two houses on the islan. One we lease out and live in the other. The appraisal process can be frustrating. Both houses went down in value 100 K each in the economy down turn and still have not yet recovered (nor will they ever get that high $ again!) but the economy is much stronger so houses are selling again which is a good sign should we ever decide to sell. Patience at this point. Dwayne - l had never thought about the honey do list in that way before. Your wife hopefully appreciates you. My husband is the best. I was single for a long time so accustomed to doing everything myself so I have never made a honey do list. I have learned that if I mention something that needs to be done he will often for it, so now I think about what I speak out loud before mentioning anything. We are fortunate to have amazing spouses. Have a great weekend everyone! Caroline

Hi Everyone,
I'm at 146.5. I've been hovering there for awhile. I'm trying to up my excercise and continue to eat carefully. Hoping that with increased activity I'll pull that number down a few more notches by the end of the summer. I just got back from an exercise class at the YMCA... very humbling as my core strength and balance is poor. However, you have to start somewhere!
Hope you all have a good weekend.
Best, Agnes

Good Early Morning '48ers',

Up just before 3 AM and hoping to get the most out of the extra hours, even if it means a little "Closed Eye" TV later...

Deana, your DH's project sounds so great. I know my DW would love to see that on Home and Garden channel or the DIY channel. Enjoy yourselves. Maine is a state I'd love to go visit some time in the fall. Bucket list item.

Bernie, I just don't get it. Appraisers saying things like an upgrade to your home doesn't add any value. It's like a car salesman. Take a car in with 100K miles on it "Oh, that's so many miles, we'll have to take $'s off the appraisal" but when they SELL a car with that many miles "Oh, it's a cream puff (their favorite term = code word for this could be a lemon)". Sorry for the "Grumpy Ol' Man" rant, but it's frustrating. I think they feel because we're "older" we're not as sharp as we once were. Granted, we may take a few seconds more or repeat ourselves, but show some respect for a fellow human being. There, enough...Good luck with the appraisal Bernie. As for how DW gets me to do the "Honey-Do's" I just feel like it's a very small way I can pay her back for all the things she did for me when I was working. I was gone 16+ hours each day, worked lots of overtime ie: gone 5-6 days most weeks, rarely had 2 days off in a row. So I'm just giving back so little for all she did. Raising 2 sons, maintaining a house, (even though her acquaintance with Mr. Vacuum wasn't that often; something I should NOT put into print, but I live dangerously) and taking care of me. So it's the least I can do for her while she goes through her issue with the blocked arteries and her back and leg pain.

PS: Bernie, I think your DH is thinking "If I call an electrician for 1 job and it takes him 15 minutes to finish it, he's still going to charge me for the full hour, so I'll have enough jobs to keep him busy for the hour. Pretty sure that's what it is...

Hi All
We are away on a mini vacation in Maine and I won't be weighing in this week.
Feeling lucky right now as I just got a tick off my husband before it had really attached itself. Then after that we got a call that he had won a Wine & Chocolate Raffle at the Library. So, I think today he is very lucky.
We spend today doing a photo series for a local tv show he wants to put together of Colonial New England Meeting Houses, focusing on the one in our town but comparing it to one here in Maine that is the same size. It was pretty cool.

Bernie, We just went thru the appraisal routine as well for a loan to do some work, we just put on a new roof and have to have siding, among other things, so it made sense to fold it all together. Good luck with yours.

We will back on Sunday--Hope everyone does well this week and have a great weekend.

Good afternoon all,
We are doing a refi on our house and the appraiser just left. I know there will be no problem with it appraising for what we owe but we did a big remodel a couple of years ago and he pretty much said that it is doubtful the appraisal will be affected positively because of it. The housing market for country homes is down here. At least we will know what the current value is and our monthly house payment will go down.

Dwayne, how does your wife get you to do so many "honey-dos"? My DH is constantly working on things around here but they are things he feels important not what I would like to have done. For instance my ceiling light in my sewing room has been out for over a year and he doesn't want to call an electrician in yet because he is making a list of all the electrical things that need looking into. Now I ask you how long should it take to make such a list? LOL It is annoying but....I work around it with some very bright lamps.

Mary, Margaret and Linda, I so hope that all of you will continue to feel better very soon.

Agnes, it took me a long time to feel retired as I kept going at the rapid work pace I was used too and often wondered what I should be doing next. Now it is quite nice to just chill out like enjoying sitting on the porch and looking out at the loveliness of nature while enjoying my coffee in the morning. It sounds like you are going about it the right way.

Caroline, so happy that you are in maintenance!

My memory is not serving me well as to the other posts but I wish everyone well as we weigh in tomorrow.

Good Morning '48ers',

Hope everyone is doing well. Mary, how's your therapy and recovery coming along? I'm hoping you're doing well and following the Dr.s orders.

Margaret, again thanks for the kind words. Believe it or not, over the years I've learned I'm not always right and I don't know everything! Yeah, it surprised me too, but I do listen now, since I know there are others out there with way more knowledge than me and I'm going to use it whenever I can. By the by Margaret, sounds like you do a LOT of watching the TV with the eyes closed. Some would say that's a critique of the shows they make for TV?!?!?! LOL!

Noticing as I'm changing my workout I'm not getting in all the steps I'd like. Going to work on that in the next few days.

Good morning everyone. Another sleepless night. Oh well it could be worse.

Caroline, maintenance can be tricky. Be careful of those little extra bites they get away from you. emoticon on reaching your goal.

Dwayne, sounds like your trainer will keep you on the straight and narrow. But that of course is if you listen to her. LOL
Hope your wife isn't discouraged about her tests. It sure is a pain not to be told about what she has to do before hand.

I'm still only doing one turn around the lake for this week and it's not a very big lake . But at least I don't have to sit down any more. Yesterday I felt I could have gone for another turn around but my girl friend said "no way this week it's one time only". But when I got home after I took the washing in off the line and put more out up and down the stairs I was ready for some TV time with my eyes closed again. LOL

Today it seems a little compact with everything I want to get done so wish me luck.

Have a great day everyone.

Good Afternoon '48ers',

How's everyone doing? Hope all are well and moving forward.

Well, 1st training session was a success I felt. She did put me through the paces and worked on an issue with balance I have and it bothers me. She also gave me tips on how much time to spend on cardio vs. strength training, the speed at which I do the exercises, etc. I've known her for a couple of years now from the old gym that closed and members were "Grandfathered" us into their new club. She was a trainer with the club, but doesn't enjoy their attitude towards it. They're all about getting the most $'s out of the members, not what's best. So we went to another gym where she can bring in 1 person with her and workout. Her prices are far more than reasonable, about 1/3 of what the gym expects members to pay. So for now and the future I'm all in on this. Will keep you all informed.

Caorline, CONGRATULATIONS on hitting your goal weight. That is so fantastic.
Really wishing you well in the maintenance phase of your journey.

Yesterday on the DW's testing, that was a bust. She was told she couldn't have ANYTHING TO EAT OR DRINK 1 HOUR BEFORE THE TEST. Funny, that wasn't on the order form where they usually make notations re: restrictions. Then going to DMV turned out bad; Dr. had used whiteout on the form and crossed out and initialed the cross out which is a NO-NO we found out. Isn't it amazing, if someone goofs up a government form they refuse it, but if we goof up, well, the results ain't purty!!! Enough ranting...

Yesterday's #'s:
Calories = 900
Carbs = 58g - 34%
Fat = 31g - 37%
Protein = 77g
Fiber = 21g
Steps = 2,220
Gym = Day off
Didn't do enough yesterday, felt kinda tired most of the early day, so I kinda napped on the sofa; glad DW didn't catch me...

Well I'm off to take care of a couple honey-do's and then?

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Good morning Sparkies! Just stopped by to say hello. Heading out side to do my 5 mi. Walk in the park then some weeding which never ends here. emoticon Margaret - so glad you are doing well. Dwayne - I watched those folks work with the trainers at the health club while we were in Pismo beach, CA. Serious athletic champs. Have fun with it. emoticon Our community is building a new Y. Can't wait for it to open. Right now for exercise I'm walking distances in the park adjacent to our house, yard work of course! Yoga & exercise on my Wii. We have other exercise gym's in town but I really enjoy jogging in a pool along with a good work out with the machines so I will have to wait for the Y to open for that to happen. emoticon Well I have stayed at 150 or below for a week now (149.4 this morning,) so I am officially on maintenance. Which is a challenge all by itself! I'm planning on staying with my daily logging to make sure I maintain. Interesting adding some of my favorite recipes to my logging favorites. I will continue to not eat bread. It just gives me more calories fir other things. Have a great day everyone! Caroline

Hi Dwayne, I'll look forward to hearing how the session with the trainer went. I've been curious about trainers. If I can get into a regular exercise routing, I might try one of those sessions.

Good Afternoon '48ers',

Hi All,

Mary, so happy to hear that you are doing well, that your house and food survived the power outage and storm and that your knee is getting better every day.

Margaret, I'll put Mother's Day on my movie list. I love happy, funny movies. As for the walking, I'm well behind what I was able to do last summer. The only explanation is that I'm out of shape from not doing much this past winter. Persistence, going slow, and being optimistic for the future seems to be the best approach for me. I don't think it's lazy. I think it's what needs to be done. You take care of yourself.

Dwayne, I am impressed with your daily tracking. You are doing great!

Hope you all have a good day.

Best, Agnes emoticon

Good morning everyone.

Mary so glad you didn't have any serious food loss or that your house was not damaged with the trees. You really want to walk on your vacation this year don't you? Glad to hear your doing great with the exercise as well.

Well my little sleep over with GGS didn't happen because his daddy was home in the end. The meeting with my friend went well and she is doing fine. When I got home my daughter phoned to see if I wanted to take in a movie with her so off we went. The movie was called "Mother's Day". We laughed so hard that we almost wet our pants. We so enjoyed it and if your into going to the movies by all means go to see this one you'll enjoy it. I love it when you walk out the movie house with a big smile on your face and your still laughing about it.

Today will be day 2 of walking around the park. I'm hoping I only have to sit down once this time. Yesterday I had to sit 2 times. I use to be able to walk to the park and go around the pond 4 times and then walk back again to the house. The nurse said I would have to start off slow but I didn't think it would be this slow. I drive to the park and then walk . Honestly talk about being lazy.

Hope you all have a great day.

Hugs Margaret

Beautiful day today! Today marked 6 weeks post total knee replacement & ongoing therapy. Working through the pain is the only way to get through it. Feel that I am doing well & making good progress. My therapist says I'm way ahead of the normal knee pts he has worked with. I see my doctor for check up on Thursday.

We made it through the storm without power for a little over 24 hrs but only had to discard a few things in the fridge. Everything else was fine. We did have some damaged trees which DH has been trying to take care of but the house was fine, thank God.

Scale has gone down a little more since Friday. Drinking lots of fluids with this heat & trying to watch the calories. Afraid I have gotten away from tracking again but I know I need to try to get back to it.

Computer went a little crazy after the storm & was not wanting to work well but finally ran a diagnostic on it today & whatever the problem was, it's now fixed!!

Good Sunday Morning '48ers,

Hope all are doing well?!

Margaret, sounds like you've got a full and fun day planned.

Mary, can understand if we're not seeing you post. Hope everything has worked out for you and you didn't lose any food.

Well, I'm off to the gym shortly, then do some of the "Honey-Do" items I didn't get to yesterday.

Good Sunday Morning everyone. Hope your all having a great day.

Linda, my thoughts and prayers are with you this weekend. I hope all your children were able to get on the crossing so they could be there with you.

Agnes, isn't it great to be able to sit on your swing and just think about going for a walk instead of thinking of about work?

Bernie, your doing great keep up the good work.

Dwayne, what can I say? I think you have said it all. Putzing will always get you into trouble. emoticon

Mary I sure hope your electricity has come back on and that you didn't lose anything from your freezer or fridge. That's the worse thing about power failures. I so glad we have a generator it comes in handy.

Well today is going to be another great day and I'm off to meet up with one of my friends that is still working at Walmart and it's her weekend to work Sunday. We haven't seen each other in a few weeks so it should be a nice long chat .

I'm having one of my GGS over to sleep tonight as the daycare is closed for the holiday tomorrow. It's no hardship for us at all we love it.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday.

Hugs Margaret

Happy Saturday '48ers,

Hope all are doing well this week-end.

Linda my prayers are with you and can imagine it will be a good step forward for you...

Agnes, have a great walk!

Mary, I hope by the time you get this post your power will be back on. I haven't been in that kind of situation in a long, long time and it was due to a transformer malfunction, not a storm, so wishing you the best!

Way to go Bernie. I feel your joy when that scale is moving the right way.

Well I'm off to the gym. I've been putzing around for a couple hours doing a lot of nothing (this is what gets me into trouble) so I'd better get going. After 2 hours at the gym, most of the day is gone for me, so with that I'm off...

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Hi All,

It is a glorious day here. Spent much of the morning on our porch with our visitors. They have just headed off to do some touring. I'm getting ready to go for a walk. I haven't done very well the past couple of days with getting in those steps.

Linda, my best wishes to you and your family for the celebration of your DH's life. I'll be thinking of you.

Good Morning, I am also late reporting in. emoticon 167
Up .5 from last time.
I have family coming from the mainland this morning if they can manage a ferry trip. Line ups will be long as we have our long weekend holiday. This Sunday we are finally having my DH celebration of his life. I will be happy when this is all done and behind me. Looking forward to being with a lot of family and friends though.
Best hurry and get things ready.
Cheers, Linda

Good morning everyone! Part of retirement is occasionally losing track of what day it is. emoticon I've been so busy working in the yard thinking that yesterday was Thursday. So here I am on Saturday reporting my Friday weigh in emoticon not much change. 150.4 lb I weighed in on my Wii after 6.5 months. You would think that she would have been more excited at my 30+ lb loss but instead told me I should reset my goal. She recommended that I probably need to lose 2 more pounds to reach the Wii recommended weight. Computers tell it like it is. emoticon Sounds like everyone is doing well here on the 48'ers. Have a nice weekend everyone. Caroline

Mary, praying for you to get electricity very soon.

I am weighing in at 177.5 which is down 1.5 pounds from last Friday I think. Since I post here and on another challenge Saturday I may be confused. At any rate I am happy to be headed in the right direction.

We've had problems with roofers as well so Margaret, I have hoping all goes well for your and DH with your new roof.

Happy weekend everyone and let's keep striving to hit our goals!

Charging phone in the car. At least 18 hrs since last night's storm but electricity is still out. Was told a major line is down & they're still working on it but not sure if power will be restored today or not. Afraid we may lose the food in freezer as well as the one in fridge. emoticon

Good Morning Everyone,

Well, news for me not is good as Margaret's but I'll take it. I'm at 214.8#'s; that's up about 0.8#'s from last week but I'm still below 215#'s and that's for the entire week, which is a goal set for me. Had been stuck OVER 215#'s for months, so I'll accept it and move forward, knowing I'm doing something right.

Margaret, glad your DH is excited, but that one I just don't understand. If I was getting a new roof my only thoughts would be how well they were going to do the job and that usually doesn't entail joy, only concern. In the past been 50-50 with persons working on our houses, so not too fond of them. They just don't seem to take the pride in their work that we used to do. Oh well, guess I'm turning into one of those "Grumpy Old Men...".

Well, off to the gym shortly, then whatever trouble I can get into.

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Good morning everyone. It's emoticon Friday. I'm happy to report that I have dropped the 2 that I had gained last week now I'm back to what I was when I came out of the hospital. I weighed in at 230 this morning.

Mary , sounds like your coming along fine. In a few more months you'll be laughing about it. Your little trip with the new little girls sounds very familiar . We had exchange students from France one summer and that was great trying to talk to them . We speak French but not their French, we wanted to warn them that we had a family of skunks under our balcony and not to get upset . But what we call skunks in our French is not what they call them. We ended up getting an animal book out to show them what it was. We had a great time with them.

Having the roof done today. So we have been up since 4 this morning because hubby is so excited. LOL

Hope everyone has a good weigh in.

Hugs Margaret

What a busy & unusual week for me. Sorry I have not posted much. Last Thursday my grandson arrived from Colombia, S.A. with his fiancee & her 2 young daughters, ages 6 & almost 8, so we have been on the go trying to get them settled & babysitting the 2 girls. DH & I had to laugh yetserday as we were at Lowe's pushing the girls in a riding cart for kids & the took them to McDonald's for ice cream because I told him, I wonder what people think when they see us 2 light headed senior citizens who don't speak Spanish walking in with these 2 pretty Spanish girls who don't speak English! LOL But it's been a fun time for us getting to know our new family members & seeing the joy of these 3 beauties adjust to American life. Wedding date has been set for July.

Therapy still going well. Still not driving so DH says he's "Driving Ms Daisy" LOL
I'm at 5 & 1/2 weeks post -op now, Doing more & tolerating the pain better.

Just a reminder that tomorrow will be Weigh-in Friday! Hope we can all report a better result this week than last week. emoticon

Good Early Morning '48ers,

Up at 2 AM this morning and the mind just started working, wanted to go back to sleep but knew it was hopeless, so got up and am going to make the most of it.
Early to the gym, maybe a nap, some "Honey-Do" things, then drive to visit DF-i-L and B-i-L and have dinner with them.

No numbers for yesterday, as what I planned on having for dinner didn't happen and I'd posted ahead and closed out, sooooo...

With that rambling, here's hoping you are all doing well, getting what exercise in that you can and moving on.

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,

Good Afternoon to All,

Hope everyone is doing well. Had a nice visit with a couple of retired friends I worked with for years. Always good to get together and have a laugh at others expense. Not really, just thinking of all the silly stuff we did and heard over our years together at the refinery. We're able to get together every couple months which makes it a good reminder of gratitude.

Yesterday's #'s:
Calories = 1,270
Carbs = 75 g - 24%
Fat = 62g - 44%
Protein = 102g
Fiber = 31g
Steps = 10,028
Gym = Cardio and Upper body workout

Having a heck of a time with the trivia section. Yesterday I missed one because the brain wasn't engaged with what I was doing; DW says that's a common problem with me?!?!?! Then today missed 1 about "How many calories in a bowl of clam chowder from Panera". Answer was 520; website says it's 420 and one of the blogs said it's 720, so I guess it depends on the day of the week for when the calories are higher or lower. Just upsetting because I had a 100+ day streak of no wrong answers, then 2 days in a row. Have to let it go though, because in the scheme of things, it don't matter!

Well, I'm off for a shower and to take DW to another test, so she can then be told she needs another test (that's sarcasm by the way) which leads to another and so on. Just so frustrating to see her in pain and now it's affecting her sleep. And with her, you don't mess with her sleep. That's right up there with her kitties...yes she's the "Crazy Cat Lady" you often hear about.

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Hi Everyone,

Still windy here although the sun is out. This is distressing to my DH as he wants to get a burn permit and the fire dept won't give them out (good thing!) until the wind dies down and the ground is wet. It's so easy to start a major fire and no one wants that. Burning is a big deal here, especially with the winter we had. We had several trees blow over and still lots of branches on the ground. And, truth be told, my husband (and most of the men in these parts) love to build these big piles of wood to burn for days. Must be a guy thing, because I really don't get it.

I'm looking forward to spending some time outside today, but we have visitors coming tomorrow who will be with us til Sunday so there is inside tidying up to do, too.

Hope you all have a good day.

Best,
Agnes

Good Afternoon All,

Sounds like most of you are getting the weather we need here in So. Calif. Wish we'd had a little snow this year, even if it only lasted a few hours. And the rain is something we're still looking to get more of.

Yesterday's #'s:
Calories = 607
Carbs = 87g - 33%
Fat = 28g - 24%
Protein = 115g
Fiber = 32g
Steps = 6,996
Gym = Day Off!

Worked out well for me to be away from the gym yesterday. Took DW to 2 Dr.'s appts. and results were..........MORE TESTS! She is getting frustrated over this, and I can't say I blame her. It's been almost a year, since the testing started, 2 failed Angioplasty attemps and now more tests and medications. Worrying because this kind of issue does not improve with time.

Bernie, I know what you mean about the decluttering. I was on a pretty good pace and got side-tracked. Need to get back to it.

And Margaret, that's so great what your DH is doing for those organizations. I think it's better when we the people, not the government get more involved and leave the bureacrats out of things. They screw up everything they touch.

Well, with that rant, I'm off; honey-do list, then maybe a little decluttering...

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Hi everyone, it looks like we are all having terrible weather. Yesterday we had snow on and off for the whole day. It didn't stay but it was real cold the kiddies were going to school on their bikes and wearing wool hats and mitts. Not bad for May 16th.LOL

Today hubby and 2 other members of our motorcycle club went to deliver 2 checks to different organizations. They were happy to get the money and we were given a grand tour of their premises . One of them work with mentally challenged people and the other was a food bank along with many other things. Thursday we will be going to give another check to a boys and girls club. They help under privileged children in many ways. It's nice to give back to the community.

Hope your all having a great day.

Good morning everyone. Just stopped by to say hello. We are back home on Camano Island, WA. Weather followed home from our six month Southern sabbatical at least for the first two days it was in the high 70's. Now cooler, rain off and on with an entire week ahead forecast of rain. emoticon I am going to work outside regardless on my deck flower and flower garden. emoticon Great to be home. Wood stove warming up the rainy days. Cozy. I feel like this is our winter after 6 mo. In CA, AZ and UT. My scale hit 150 this week but bounced back to 150.6 so I won't claim to have reached my goal weight yet. But soon! Have a good day! Caroline

Just dropping in to say hello.

It is cold and rainy here as well.

I haven't been very good at decluttering lately. Need to get back to that chore. As a matter of fact I see a pile of papers I could work on right now. Yuck! Guess I'll go make an attempt to toss most of it.

I have my grandson tomorrow so it will be a fun day.

Good Morning '48ers,

Sounds like some of you are having the kind of weather I wish we'd have more of.
Been hot - upper 80's and higher - and kicks on the A/C to keep DW comfortable. When she gets hot, she's miserable and she's a native Californian. Go figure.

Margaret, as for the "Honey-Do" list, I keep working at it, and like to think I'm making progress. At least I can fantasize about that!

Yesterday's #'s:
Calories = 1,243
Carbs = 104g - %
Fat = 55g - %
Protein = 121g
Fiber = 27g
Steps = 6,220
Gym = Cardio & Lower body Day

Today is an "OFF" day for me at the gym and taking DW to 2 Dr.s appts. later today. Hoping to see her blood pressure down so she can get the procedure done soon. And of course there's the smoking issue. More to follow...

Agnes, I'm doing the "decluttering" also. I can't believe some of the stuff I've held onto for years. Unbelievable, yet makes me feel somewhat better when I can donate it or toss it. Still yearn for those Army days where your life was in a duffle bag and a briefcase...LOL!

Well, I'm off; hoping all of you have a great start to this week.

Good Morning All,

We've got that chilly weather, too. Still, the days are longer and generally sunnier, and the grass is green. All good things.

I've been into decluttering, and so much more of that to do. Also trying to get the house straightened up inside and out. It seems to take us a long time to get over the winter phase and into spring/summer. Our lupine are starting to come up. No flowers yet, but the leaves are beautiful on their own.

Like Margaret, I'm going to be out walking today with my walking buddy. She has scoped out a new walk and is raring to go. I hope I can keep up with her!

Best,
Agnes

Good morning everyone. Yesterday we had a cold day we had to put the heat back on. Honestly for the month of May this is crazy. The wind could just about cut you in half. LOL. So needless to say it was a stay in day.

Today I'm going to try walking again with my friend. I hope I can get in a bit more then last week. We'll be wearing our coats for sure as it hasn't warmed up any. By Wednesday we should be back into warmer weather.

Linda, try using a little ladder for the roof of your van next time, or get yourself one of those long handled car brushes for washing the car that goes on the end of the hose . That is what we use to use. Oh yes always make sure it's a warm day when your doing it as you do always end up wet some where. LOL

Dwayne, how have you been doing on your "honey do list" is it going down any?

Mary, sure hope you are starting to get some relief from the pain. Hang in there it will get better.

Hope you all have a great day.

Good Morning, I also have had an early start to the day. Woke up at 5AM and was starving for some reason. Figured I would get up, eat something and read my book. I have done a wash, watered the garden abit and now back inside to do some computer work before walking my dog.
Margaret, I hope you are feeling better with the new meds. All these changes take a toll on our bodies. But I guess the drs. know best...
Dwayne, Hope that things are looking up for your DW. and you. Have been dealilng with those problems for awhile now haven't you.
Today I want to head into town for some more garden things. I have sort of started a new patio area for me to sit outside. Very rough looking but I wanted to pretty it up with some colourful flowers etc. Even if it is just for me and the dog to enjoy. All of my family lives too far away just to drop over. Down the road , I may have to think about selling my house and move closer to the kids, though I have been told that is not always a good thing to do. Will decide according to what health problems I encounter along the way. I also will finish up the cleaning of my van. Yesterday I washed the van which was a first car washing by me. Never before had I washed a vehicle. I ended up pretty wet as well so was happy it was a warm day. Found it hard getting the roof part done but ended up standing with the doors open on the inside and reaching up. Hoping all this burnt off a pound or two... Well best get a move on.
Mary, Hope your knee will be back into shape soon. , and the rest of you are healthy too.
Cheers, Linda

Happy Saturday '48ers,

Late post; just finished reading all the posts and wanted to send a quick note.

Glad to hear we're all doing well. Get what workouts in we can.

Mary, sorry to hear of the pain, but as you said, it's getting better.

Linda, so good to hear you're doing fine. Will be saying prayers for good news the end of June for you.

Deana, it's amazing what those few pounds can do isn't it. I know when I got into the "Onederland" area I was feeling so on top of it, then I toppled off, but am determined, as are most of you, to get to that goal we've each set for ourselves.

Caroline, way to go on the 7 miles walked. Feels good doesn't it?!?!?!

Margaret, do like you said, just keep plugging away at it and good results will come your way.

Bernie, I don't think anyone of us hasn't had one of those "Binge Days". I know I've had more than my share and I always get on myself for it. But I think it's just our nature. I've never met ANYONE who kept a 100% perfect record of what and how they ate. Would like to meet that person.

Well with that I'm off for a bit of dinner, a little TV, then bed.

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

emoticon 194 this a.m. That's up 1 lb from last week. Not sure if it's actual weight gain or fluid because still have swelling in that knee.

Been a busy week & on the go. Forced to rest a couple of afternoons with the pain but managing to do more each day. Checked to see if most have reported in but haven't read posts yet. Will try to do so tomorrow. Heading to bed.

Hi Everyone
Reporting in at 145.0
First time I have seen that number in a few years. Walking seems to be paying off and I am beginning to see it in the way my clothes fit! Nice.
That fine line between 145 and 150 has a huge impact on how tight my clothes are and I love the difference. I just got to keep it up. This week the weather has been wonderful so I was outdoors every chance I got. I went for walks and worked in yard. There is no going to the gym when the weather pulls me outdoors.

Margaret adjusting to new meds is hard, just hang in there.
Agnes nice to see you back and adjusting to the new lifestyle.
Dwayne, you are doing great congratulations on getting under 215.
Bernie I do so understand the binges, they are such killers. I am also a sneaky eater, as if no one is looking it doesn't count.
Caroline 7 miles is incredible.

I hope all do well this upcoming week.

Good emoticon Friday to you all.

Well I'm up again 2 pounds at 232. I was thinking I was on the downward trip this time but I guess the meds haven't done what they are supposed to do yet. I'll keep plugging at it. I had more test done again this morning. I'll be happy when all this is over.

I'll check back in later.

Hugs Margaret

Weigh in for me is 179 which is up for me this time but I'm still in the 170s and plan to stay there. So I vow to myself to do better all next week. Had a binge day eating chips, dip and cookies....oh my!

Good morning everyone! Weigh in day emoticon I'm up .2 from last Friday 151.6. I just spent 15 minutes writing a nice post but lost it. Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Mary would love to see the new porch swing. We're home (back on Camano Island, Wa.) So happy to be home! Busy unloading the RV and getting the yard spruced up with flowers and weeding. My fitbit told me I walked 7 mi. Yesterday. Company coming to visit tonight and tomorrow night. We will drive them up to Vancouver, Canada on Sunday. Have a great weekend! Caroline

Hi everyone, It has been awhile that I have been posting. Still checking in but not writing to you. Sorry. I have been ok, but still on going tests being done. Next cat scan end of June which should tell me what is happening now. But the good news is I am still feeling fine.
There was lots to catch up on with all of you. Hope all is well.
Todays weight was up abit from last time. Now at 166.5 emoticon
Today is a fun card game of canasta with the ladies. We try to do that once a month. Must go now walk the dog and water the garden as it is so dry. I have my veggies all popping up now and it looks great so far. Take care.
Cheers, Linda

Happy Friday '48er's,

Thanks Agnes, I did WAY BETTER yesterday. Guess Wednesday was a "speed bump in life" for me.

Today's weigh-in was 214.7#'s. Made it below the 215# mark for the 1st time in a while. Now to keep it going. For me, I have to be below the mark for 3 days in a row to say I've made that part of my goal and move on; which I always do. Just grateful to see this move.

Will be back later.

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Hi All,
I'm reporting in at 147.0, not bad considering my trip. I think that's an increase of 0.5 lbs. I've been doing well with eating since I got home and I'll keep that up.

Dwayne, having an off day at the gym is to be expected now and then. You just needed a break. You'll be back in there and more energetic next time.

Best,
Agnes

Hi All,

Quick note; DW's Ultrasound was done yesterday, but she won't get the results until we go back to the Surgeon. The technicians never seem to say that much about it, or they're not allowed to. Thanks for asking Margaret. And do take it slowly if you're on a new med. Those things can sneak up on you for a while.

Yesterday's #'s:
Calories = 711
Carbs = 38g- 25%
Fat = 22g - 32%
Protein = 63g
Fiber = 12g
Steps = 5,332
Gym = Cardio Day
My gym session was a total bust. I just had a terrible attitude and went anyway, thinking I would work out of the mood, but it didn't happen. I left after 20 minutes which is something I can't ever remember doing. But I'm not beating myself up too badly over it, we all have those "OFF" days I guess.

Hope everyone is doing well, sounds like some of you are enjoying the great outdoors and getting those walks in. Keep it up!

Well, back tomorrow with my weigh-in; hoping it's a good one, but you know what they say about hope and reality...

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Hi Everyone,

Looks like we have another excellent weather day here in Maine. Sunny and warm. Wonderful.

Yesterday was a good day. I went for a walk with my walking buddy. We aren't up to our usual distance either, Margaret. However, it's nice to get out and move. Margaret, if they have you on new blood pressure meds that could be what is making you tired. Sometimes It takes several weeks to get used to them. And, slow is good. Your doctor is giving you good advice to listen to your body and take it slowly.

I did a little decluttering yesterday and will do the same today. I think it will be a task for many days and months to come. It does feel good to put some order into our home and to get rid of things that we don't need or use.

Today I will go for another walk. I think my buddy plans on a fairly long walk, but we'll see.

Best,
Agnes

Hi everyone hope your all having a great day.

Dwayne, how did it go for your wife yesterday? I hope she got some good news for a change.

Agnes, I like your new saying. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I managed to get in a little walk yesterday . We got up to about 1.80 mile. Not quite back up to our regular distance yet. In that I had to take a break and sit for a while. When I got home it was a very slow day and even watched TV with my eyes closed again. Honestly who would have thought you could get so tired like that. Oh well the doctor says to take it slowly.

Today I'll be having a visit from my friend from Vancouver. It will be nice to spend some time with her.

I wonder where everyone else is? I guess the nice weather has something to do with it.

Hope you all have a great day.

Hugs Margaret

Good Morning '48ers,

Agnes, glad you're settling in, and yes it will take some time to get used to "not anwering the bell" as they used to say. Don't know what they're using now. I'm so far out of that loop, when my sons' say something, I'll say what does that mean and it's like "Oh really, who woulda thunk it..."

Taking DW for a Carotid Artery Ultrasound shortly, so I wanted to get this post done before. Seems when the late afternoon hits I lose control of the day and seem to fall behind everything. Then play catch-up the rest of the day.

Margaret, I'd go with Agnes advice, and something I believe in deeply, 1 day at a time, one moment at a time. I'm all for having just 1 trouble sandwiched in between lots of days with no problems. Also, glad I can give you a chuckle now and then. I believe we should make each other as happy as possible, when we can and I've got lots of material to work with. 99% of my own making.

Well I'm off, everyone have a great "Hump Day" and chat with you all tomorrow.

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday was a lovely day. I went for a walk in our nearby park, enjoyed the beautiful weather, and did a little bit of yard work. It felt so good to be outside. ah yes, and going through lots of mail, paying bills etc. I am so used to being under the stress of work that this new phase of my life will take some getting used to. So far so good.

Yes, Margaret, one day at a time is the best advice. Right now it is so new. I am feeling my way,but it does feel good to not be so rushed. You take care of yourself, too. Let's change that saying about trouble coming in three, to two troubles are more than enough!

Hope you all have a great day.

Hi everyone.
Yesterday was another day at the doctor's for the bump on my head. That seems to be ok for now but she did find a bit of skin cancer on my forehead, so off it came and now I have to be followed for 3 years to make sure I don't have anymore.
Ok they say trouble comes in three I'm waiting for # 3 to appear. I have a scan on Friday so I'll see what happens then.

Dwayne, I love reading your posts. They give me my laugh for the day. Thank you.

Agnes, love having you back . Nice to hear you finally took your retirement. You'll finally have time for yourself and not be rush off your feet. Take it a day at a time and enjoy it.

Mary, so sorry your still hurting. Do you think you just did a bit to much?

Today I had a visit from my friend and her sister which had just arrived from England for a visit. It was so nice catching up with them.

Hope you are all having a great week.

Hugs Margaret

Hi '48er's,

Agnes, glad to see you back and glad you're starting your retirement off right.

Mary, so sorry to hear you're still dealing with the pain. Has your Dr. said when relief might be in sight? Just wondering.

Yesterday's #'s:
Calories = 1,074
Carbs = 134g- ?%
Fat = 48g - ?%
Protein = 131g
Fiber = 8g
Steps = 7,272
Gym = Cardio & Lower Day

Well I'm off; got to go pick up some paperwork from my DW's Surgeon for a ultra sound test he's ordered for her that's tomorrow. Gave up trying to get Dr.'s offices to fax things. Last time it took 2 MONTHS FOR A BLOOD TEST REQUEST TO GET DONE!!! Now that's ridiculous and unacceptable in my book. If it's not done in 24 hours, there's a problem somewhere. PHEW, better get offf my soapbox, I'm starting to sound like a Presidential candidate?!?!?!

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Hi Everyone,

It's good to be back to the 48ers. I know I've been MIA a lot, and plan to turn that around. I retired, had one day to pack, and then went off for a lovely vacation with almost no internet service. A cruise on the Columbia and Snake Rivers. It was a small boat, lots of pampering going on, and, yes, lots of very good food. I got home yesterday and I'm not going to weigh myself until Friday. I'm afraid I might faint if I do it today.

The vacation was a good way to start retirement. I also had a lovely send off from work. I am grateful to have this time to turn my attention to other things.

Margaret, did I see that you were in the hospital? I hope all is well now.

Mary, you will get there. I know that it can seem like forever, but with time and physical therapy you'll be healed and moving about more easily. I LOVE the swing!!!

Dwayne, thank you for the Mother's Day goodie. It was a lovely surprise. Although I was traveling all day on Mother's Day, I did get calls and emails from my daughters, and then beautiful cards were waiting for me at home. Being a mom has given my life such joy.

All, hope you have a great day. Wish me well as I try to get back to healthful moderate eating and more exercise.

Best,
Agnes
