Margaret, I would gladly send rain to Dwayne & to Gaitlinburg, TN where they have been having fires. But alas, where the Lord sends it, we have no choice.If it didn't cost so much, I would bottle it up & send it...lol

I was suppose to go to work this morning but decided it was best not to get on the road with the flash flooding & heavy rain but that works out for the best as my lil guy's mom will need me at the end of the week more.

Homemade vegetable soup for supper with grill cheese on whole wheat bread.

Mary maybe you should try to send some of that rain to Dwayne. He seems to need it the most. Be careful on the roads.

Agnes, another trip. At least you'll be seeing your other daughter and that always makes it worth while. Take care.

Dwayne, I can't wait to see Dude and his friends. I know how challenging it can be to get 2 animals in the same picture.

We had so much fun at the parade yesterday. As the kiddies seen one of their heroes from the Paw Patrol they were jumping up and down and calling to them. It was nice spending time with them all. We also took in a Christmas store which GGS and Grandma (me) loves to see. He was very good looking at everything and touching only what he was allowed to touch. I ended up buying a little animal toy for the three of them . That was the only thing I could afford. LOL The stuff is beautiful but also very expensive.

Today I'm meeting up with a friend for breakfast and then going to a meeting on our rights as senior citizens. Medical , wills and testaments and so on.

Rain, rain, & more rain. Lost power for a few hours last night. Woke up to about 6" of water on our carport which thank goodness is higher than our yard because the yard had more water than that. Donned our rubber boots to be able to get to the car & then back in the house after church. And the rain continues even now. Not venturing out tonight. Too cold & wet....but I will try my best to get tp work in the morning.

Agnes, here's to you having a great trip next week. Enjoy your time with family and friends and be safe.

Margaret, the picture is of "emeralds" for the team I'm on for a 'Winter Weight Loss Challenge". I'll be bringing "The Dude" back after the challenge is over and I'm trying to get a picture of him with Barney, his buddy/playmate who was the last one we rescued. Will be working on that.

Well that's about it for me for today. Going to the gym for a 'short' workout and then home for football. Go Chicago Bears!

Hi All,

Today will be an organizing day for me (but I think they all are!). I will be flying to DC tomorrow and must pack etc. A few days of the trip is work, and the rest will be to see my daughter and a few of my friends. I'm looking forward to it. I'll be back in Maine on Friday.

Mary, I'm so happy that you are keeping track of our weight postings. Obviously, it just slipped away from me. It seemed to me that I had been at 147 for so long that I forgot I started the month at a lower number!! I must get a grip on this.

Hi everyone, Well today it's our Santa Clause parade. We are meeting up with the three GGS and their moms. I can't wait to see their little faces light up. They are so excited about Christmas. Yesterday I went with my DD and her DD with GGS to see Santa. He waited in line for over an hour and then when it was his turn he took off running right into his arms. His little face said it all. Oh and by the way Santa loves chocolate chip cookies.

Mary no problem about the weight all is good. Thank you very much for keeping track of all of us.

Dwayne, can I ask what is the new picture of? It looks like green beads ?

Agnes, we had on and off rain yesterday but today we are suppose to have sun . I hope so as it can get pretty cold standing around waiting for the big guy to show up.

Christmas Shopping is down to 4 left to go so feeling good about that. But I kept the hardest for last. Now it's going to take some doing.

Happy Saturday '48ers',

Wow, what a surprise. This is one time I don't mind being called a "Loser"! Thanks to all of you for the goodies, they will be put to good use. It's only because of each of you that I keep going forward. Your stories, your experiences, lift me, keep me looking forward and keeping as positive as I can be in this negative world of ours.

Linda, as always, know you're one of those "special angels" I keep in my prayers for good news and a swift recovery. And if your Dr. hasn't given you something for the pain, get him going on it. You need to rest, as I'm sure you're like all these other lovely ladies and constantly going with Christmas coming upon us too fast.

Well, I'm signing off for now. Keep up your workouts, even in this busy time of year, and please, give yourselves just a little "ME" time every day. And Margaret, watching TV with your eyes closed doesn't count as "ME" time! LOL!

Good Morning all! Raining off & on here since last night. We attended our annual Christmas party last night for pastors & wives. Enjoyed a wonderful of smoked brisket, green beans that were better than most, homemade rolls & baked sweet potato wit orange tea (never had that before but loved it!). A well known lady among our group made her famous pies. I ate one slice of lemon pie. Then we played a game of the Wright Family Christmas game with Christmas ornaments. Always fun & laughter when some are left holding 2 & some none because they get mixed up going left or right. We also sang Christmas Carols & had a chance to visit with friends we don't get to see often enough.

Agnes & Margaret, sorry to have disappointed both of you but when we end a challenge, I use that number to start the new challenge of the month. So our weight of yesterday, Dec 2nd marks the end of last month & the beginning of the Dec challenge which will end on Dec 30th.

Another day of running around today with DD and GD and GGS. It's picture day for the little one and then to see Santa. Hopefully it won't be a long day I want to get things done around the house as well. Well all the Grand children , Great Grandsons presents are done. Now I only have My son, daughter and the SIL and the DIL left to get. So that's a good thing.

Oh Linda, I'm so sorry to hear the news was not good and that the pain continues. Did they give you something to ease the pain?? It's been a rough year for you, Praying that things get better, Keep up the good spirit, as that often helps make the days easier somehow.

Well it's late but I did get the numbers tallied & ready to post the "Biggest Loser" for the past 5 weeks. This challenge was from Oct 28 - today, Dec 2.

Our one & only, Dwayne went from 221 to 215.5 for a 5.5# loss! Great job! Goodie will be coming your way.

Agnes, you were at 145 & now 147.5 but I'm sure that will be coming off soon.

Linda, you were at 156 so you've dropped another 2 lbs & in 2nd place.

Margaret, sorry to hear your is heading in the wrong direction...you're up 4 lbs in 5 weeks.

I am 0.6 up for the 5 weeks, went from 189 to 189.6 which is still up 1.6 lb higher than my lowest of 188 before vacation. My goal is to get it back below the 188 mark before Christmas.

Sorry I am late reporting. Now 154. Down two. Still having lots of pain. Dr called today with not so good news . Have a 1 inch nodule on pancreas. Might be cancerous. The pain could come from an ulcer. Won't talk to dr until 22nd. Guess I have to wait until then to find out what he has in store for me. That will be one year since Fred passed away. Until then I just try to stay happy that I am with family and all of you guys.

Hi Everyone,

The weather is frightful this morning. Very heavy rain and winds. My poor dog was frightened to go out and I don't blame her. I'm happy that we have power. So often the heavy rain and winds mean trees come down on power lines. However, the good news is that we have a few sunny days ahead starting tomorrow.

I think my presentation went well. At least it's over. Today I'll go to the YMCA for a class and some time in the weight room, and then this afternoon my DH and I have some errands to do.

Margaret, I envy you for your close and talented family. I love that you are able to get a manicure from your GD. And it's great that you and your husband have the snow blower situation figured out and improved.

Mary, you are one busy lady. Dwayne, we certainly understand if you are MIA for a few days. That certainly happens to me. It just gets so busy sometimes, and being distracted by football is not unheard of!

Hi everyone. Had a lovely day today . Started off with my GD stopping by to give me a manicure. Then we hooked up with her mom and my other GD and we went shopping. We did Christmas shopping I only have a few left to get and then I'm finished. Then we had to come home in traffic.

We finally got my hubby's car home from the garage. Talk about being a happy camper. He really needs it to do his snow blowers this winter. It's been kind of hard on him so far as he would fix them and then take them back to the people by walking behind them. Then I would go and pick him up. Glad that is over and now he can use the car to transport them.

Linda, hope you heard about the results of the test you took. It's the waiting that gets to you all the time .

Just a quick check in. I have a volunteer activity at the hospital this afternoon, and a presentation to give at that meeting. This morning will be a time to prepare what I am going to say. Whew. This public speaking thing is never easy for me.

Posting late as usual. Had company today, visit from GS #2 & his sweet bride. He was a little down as he's been without work for a month now but loaded him up with a few things from the freezer & the pantry before they left.

Got a call from my "little Guy" as they were heading to N.O. for his heart surgery scheduled tomorrow. Brave lil fellow.

Linda, hope you've had that call by now & it was not bad news.
Agnes, your squash dish sounds good. We love suash just about any way it's cooked.

Yes I've been MIA the past couple days. Football on Sunday and then I shut down the computer and forgot to post, then Monday was kind of hectic and football again on Monday night (are you seeing the pattern) and I was doing my imitation of a 'bobble-head doll' watching the game I was so tired, but I stayed up, then went to bed. So I'll ask forgiveness and say I'll try to do better. I like to keep current and I feel I owe all of you for the support and positive messages all of you keep sending my way. I don't know what it is, but it just seems the day gets away from me and I don't get that much accomplished.

Linda, I know what you mean about waiting for that phone to ring. Know that you're in my prayers constantly for good news and an end to this.

Agnes, that stuffed squash sounds great. I'd enjoy it, since this low-carb diet is so much meat and some veggies, but got to stay away from the potatoes, rice, beans, that sort of thing and no bread. I did have a hamburger about a week ago for a special night, can't remember the occassion, justt that the burger tasted SO GOOD! 1st bread I'd had in 3 weeks! I appreciate your DH's menu loves, but those heavy starches do us no favors. O.K. once in a while, but we're not as active as we were when we could eat potatoes all day and not gain an ounce. Now we walk by them in the store and POOF! Up a pound!

Margaret, sounds like you're keeping yourself busy. Baking cookies, workouts, Christmas shopping, it is the 'fun time' of year isn't it. Then we all crash on the 26th! So "2 Left Feet" Line Dancing huh? Sounds interesting. Would love to see that on "Dancing With The Stars". The important thing is to enjoy yourself and as the old saying goes "Dance like nobody's watching..."

Mary as always you're like the "Energizer Bunny", go, go, go... What's your secret because I could use some of whatever it is. Glad to hear your back below that 190# mark. I know we all have those goals we set each month. Was that yours?

As for getting 6 hours of sleep, that's what I aim for on the low end, and hope to get 7. Unless DW has kept me running all day, I don't hit the 8 hour mark too often anymore, which is O.K. I like the early morning quiet and feel like I get a jump on the day, which I usually squander away and do little with it. This is one bad habit I've got to break. Hmmm, I'm seeing a "New Year's Resolution / Goal" forming here. But if you all are doing well with 6 hours then go for it. Just wondering, do you all go to bed at a set time each night. For me I shoot for 9 PM or just before. After 10 PM you're talking to "Mr. Potato Head" here. Curious about that since they say it's important to keep a regular sleep schedule, which was something I couldn't do when I worked since it was rotating shifts, from days to nights every 2-3 days.

Well, I think I've rambled on enough, hoping all are well and knowing you're all in my prayers every day.

Hi to all, Thanks for all your prayers . I have had the scans and tests, and now just wait at home here for the dr. to call and let me know what is going on. Sure hope they call soon. The waiting and wondering is killing me.
Margaret, I have line danced for fifteen years and I just love it. Once my back problems gets figured out I am going to search out a more reasonable class to go to for the dancing. Lots to do today around home but cant seem to concentrate on too much. Just waiting for phone to ring....
Mary , you make me tired just reading all the work you do. No wonder your poor knees complain. Glad the scale is going downward again.
Agnes, The squash dinner sounded nice. Yes the men really like their meat dinners, and I remember that my husband would complain loudly if I tried a meal like that. Now I can make anything I like for myself, but just don't feel like it half the time. I am now eating alot of soup and sandwiches and trying to get the veggies in some way. This morning I put a hearty bean , meat and veggie soup in the crock pot to simmer away. It can do the work for me.
I think after I finish lunch I will try to lie down and relax my back. I always get phone calls if I lie down during the day. Maybe this will hurry up the call I am waiting for.. I can hope.

Hi All,

Just got back home from my aerobics dance class. Margaret, I know what you mean about those two left feet. Things that look so easy, sometimes aren't. I think it's that brain/body connection that just needs time and practice.

I know we're all in that busy season. I've done some Christmas shopping, but need to figure out what I have and what I still need to buy. I'm trying to be reasonable about it. It's so easy for me to go overboard.

We've got unsettled weather. It's gray and chilly, and a mix of rain/snow is on the way. I'm heading out for a walk with my dog. Not sure if I'll be able (or want) to do that later on. On the cooking front, I made stuffed acorn squash last night for dinner. My husband liked it even though it didn't have much meat in it. He loves his meat and potatoes.

Hi everyone, what a big day yesterday. Walk in the park started off at 7;45 am and then met up with friends for coffee, did some Christmas shopping and then we went off to line dance. We had so much fun seeing we didn't know how to do it . It's amazing how you can have 2 left feet at times. I got back home at 4;30 made dinner and by 7 I couldn't stay awake anymore. LOL

Today should be quieter and I want to get a few more cookies done for Christmas and maybe a few more decorations out.

Linda, hope everything went well with your test. You have been in my prayers each day. Take care of yourself.

At work today and just sat down for a break while it's quiet. My boy is watching cartoons. I've finished stripping the bed, washed, dried sheets, remade bed, washed dishes, fed him, folded 2 more loads of clothes & caught up on my charting so I decided to check-in to read posts. The rain has started and we're under a tornado watch. Not looking forward to the drive home today.

Praying for Linda today too. Thanks for the reminder, Agnes.
Margaret, your shopping trip sounds like you made some good buys.
Bernie, hang in there. You'll get back in the Grove soon, I'm sure. It's hard to deny yourself during holidays. We do have to allow ourselves some of what we enjoy as long as we get back on track afterwards.

On a positive note, I was back below the 190 mark this morning so it's heading in the right direction. emoticon

I know what you mean about sorting through clothes. I seem to keep many that just don't fit anymore --a few that are too big, but more that are too small. I think it's good to get them out of the closet and keep the ones that truly fit.

You're in my mind today as I know you have that appointment at the clinic. Strong positive thoughts being sent your way.

Hi everyone. What a beautiful day I had yesterday. Went to the 2 Christmas markets and oh the goodies I found . LOL I picked up a bow tie made of wood for my grandson that loves to dress up and different. I think he's going to love it. Bought hubby some baked beans and apple pie which he said was delicious . Also picked up a pair of mitts from a group of people who give all the proceeds to the poor families for Christmas. Then back home again and watched a few Christmas movies.

Today I'm meeting up with friends for coffee and then my friend and I will go to a line dancing course.

Heater went our at our church this morning. It was 39 when we got up but by 10 am it was up into the 60's so we handled the chill. Have to call for repair tomorrow. The goose was cooked by the time we got back from church & boy was it good!

The rest of the afternoon was quiet, Didn't want to venture out tonight for evening services at a neighboring church, so DH went without me.

Margaret, our winter varies. Some years very mild, others pretty harsh for the south. Some years we have run the A/C at Christmas time. Daytimes lately have been in the 60's & 70's F. Mornings have been anywhere from the mid 30's to 50's F. Expecting some thunderstorms & 90%of rain tomorrow & I have a 22 mile drive to work & back. Yuck!

Hi Everyone,

Oh Margaret, I understand about the 6 hours of sleep. That's about all I get, too, and it's ok, but it feels odd somehow to be up at all different hours of the day and night.

Our dog sure was happy to see us. After we got home, she ate and went for a walk and then slept. She was tired from all the excitement. I suppose she doesn't get a lot of sleep at the kennel although they tell us that she does very well with them, and they take her for a walk every day so that's nice.

We've gotten some snow, but nothing that's accumulated on the ground. I'm sure we'll be getting some soon.

For me today will be unpacking, laundry, some on line shopping, and preparing for some volunteer work at the hospital. Right now I'm going to fix myself some coffee. I do love that first cup of coffee in the morning. Mine is hazelnut flavored.

Agnes glad to hear that your home safely. I'm sure your 4 legged friend will be happy to be home as well.

Mary, When does your winter season really start down there? Winter hasn't arrived yet and we are already in winter mode.

Today will be another day of going to see another Christmas market. They are popping up all over the places. Yesterday we seen a man selling wooden bow ties. They were quite unique. It was amazing what he could do with wood. I love going to see what the craftsmen can do.

Late check-in. Got allot done today. Washing,put away summer clothes and took out winter ones, finished my Afghan and prepped a goose my GS killed for me. Got it marinading to go into the oven before we leave for church in the morning. Right now, off to bed. Night. Hope all have a blessed day tomorrow

Good 'Gooble-Gooble Saturday '48ers',

O.K. Couldn't resist the turkey opening.

Margaret you're right that the running around helps burn all those extra calories. But the past 2 days I've felt like kind of a 'lump'. Guess too much food Thursday. I know the next day I felt like I had a "Food Hangover". Still got leftovers we're going through, but I'm being good and getting back to what I'm supposed to do. No desserts, etc. How's your house decorating for Christmas going? DH I'm sure is helping you. I've got youngest son to help me, since he seems to be eager to do it. DW will "direct" what we should do, LOL!

Bernie, you'll get it off; as we all will. Just get back on track and maybe we'll all learn something from the past couple days of eating and all.

Wow Mary! So impressed by the size of your Thanksgiving. That must have been something. I too thought I was being good about my choices. Doing better the past day. I'll take your word on the weight loss I reported. I guess somehow I got something mixed up in my head, imagine that. Thanks for your thoughts regarding my DW. She's still in lots of pain and not sleeping well at all. I just keep praying this nightmare will end soon...

Linda saying a prayer for you that it's only a pull. I would think that's what it probably is with all the moving and shifting things around that you've gone through the past few weeks. That's so awesome about your dropping all those sizes in your clothing. Guess you're doing a lot better than you thought. I don't know why but for some strange notion I thought you lived in Florida. Don't know why or where that came from. Glad also to hear you're able to get in so quickly to get those tests done. Wish my DW's Dr.s' and test centers were that efficient.

Well, I've rambled on, wasted my entire morning, have a bit to do for DW then off to the gym. So I'll check back in tomorrow...

Good morning everyone. Well I think you should all be very proud of yourselves. Up a pound after a festive day is not bad at all. You know it will be off again this week. So hang in there and freeze the left overs.

Linda, sorry to hear your in such pain with your back. Could it be shingles? I understand that could be very painful and it usually comes on due to stress which you have been under for a while now with the move and all. I hope you get well soon.

Mary , sounds like you were a large gang of fun. It's always great to be with family and friends it makes the day go by so fast.

Agnes, sounds like your going to have fun also with your daughter. At least at the Library you had something to read while she did her work. LOL

Bernie, I know your kicking yourself . But you'll be back in the swing of things again next week.

Dwayne, I guess all your running around paid off. This was something your not use to doing so you used more energy then you thought you did on all your chores and preparation for the big day. Now just watch those left overs they can kill you. LOL

Well my day was very full yesterday. Today I want to get some of the house decorated. It will be done in sections I think. The GGS will be looking for everything to be out so I mustn't forget anything. But it takes me days to do it all and a lot of carrying up and down the stairs. Hubby will fix all the electrical for the outside lights and get them on timers ready for December the 1st. That's when we start to light up.

Our Thanksgiving was wonderful. About 50 of us gathered at my sister's. We 4 sisters & 1 of the 3 brothers were there, all three of my girls & a few of my GKs. Most of hers was there too. It was a beautiful day & the kids played outside, climbing trees and anything else they thought of. Lots of food & lots of laughter. I was choosy about my selections but then ate too many desserts but was just up 1 lb from yesterday. emoticon said 191. Not too bad considering. But now to get back to business! So I decided to hold off till next Friday to give us a chance to do a little better. We'll end the challenge then.

Linda, so glad you went to the clinic & they will do a CT on Monday. Praying it is not the worse possibility but also that they can help relieve that back pain for you!

Dwayne, sorry to hear that your DW is still not feeling well. According to my records, you reported 219.5 last week & so that means you were actually down by 0.6 lbs today?

Good Morning to all, Hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving day yesterday. All fed up with turkey and the trimmings. Dwayne I live in Canada so I had my Thanksgiving in October..
I ended up at the cancer clinic a few days ago. They are now checking into my back pain which has really flared up. Now going for another cat scan to check for bone cancer. Hopefully this is just a strain and not the worst outcome... Monday is when I go for the scan. Very quick to get in for one and I am most surprized about that.
Today I am just going to take it easy and go thru alot of my clothes and sort things. So many of my favorite clothes are too big now. I hate shopping by myself but I did go the other night and I bought a dress for over the Christmas season. Pretty darn happy that I am in a size 12 now and not a 20 as I have been before.
Still have trouble believing that I can fit into smaller sizes as I still think of being big. Weight today still the same. emoticon 156

Good Morning '48ers',

Sounds like everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day!

Ours was wonderful as well, except DW is now in a lot of pain. Hopefully she'll sleep well and most of it will be gone when she gets up, if she gets good sleep. Sometimes she doesn't sleep well, tosses and turns and can't shake the discomfort. Hoping for news soon. Still more tests to do, since the one last week they "Missed" a test they were supposed to do?!?!?! Go figure. They called and said the Dr.s' office sent a new order in and my DW "called them out on it" since she had the paperwork of what tests were to be done AND the Dr. is in Vietnam on a charity mission for 2 weeks, so he couldn't have sent it. So frustrating...

Well, weigh-in for me is 218.9#'s, which is up from last week. I was so hoping to be at least close, but NO! Oh well, everything was delicious, I was really good and only had 'small' tastes of the goodies. Only down fall was a sliver of sweet potato pie and a slice of blackberry pie with whipped cream. Can I say "Sweet Tooth Downfall" LOL! Oh well, just more time I'll spend in the gym working it off and remembering WHY?!?!?!

Hoping those of you traveling are staying safe and those of you at home are enjoying, especially if family stayed over.

Good Morning All,

We had a good trip to Massachusetts, nice Thanksgiving dinner with her and her boyfriend, and lots of sports on TV. For me, it was bed by 9 pm. Today I will go with her to her job at a local library. I look forward to spending time there while she works til 1 pm, then I'm not sure what we'll do. Maybe a walk if the weather is ok.

Hope you all had a good day. My weight yesterday was 147. No way to weigh myself here. Hard to believe that they don't have a scale.

Just a quick hello and goodbye as we leave very soon for our 6 hour (maybe more?) road trip. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Dwayne, I also am sad for our Bonnie dog that she needs to go to the kennel, but she doesn't seem to mind the kennel very much, and taking her with us would probably be a lot less fun for her as my daughter has a cat and a dog and I'm not sure that they would all be happy with each other.

Well good evening 48ers! I did not have a chance to check in until now and was pleasantly surprised at how many newsy post I had to read. So glad everyone is accounted for.

I believe I'm about ready for Thanksgiving. Did my preparations earlier and we will head for my sister's home in the morning to join the rest of the family. Can't promise that I will not overdo but I'll try to do my best to make wise choices and not eat too much dessert.

Hope everyone that is traveling does so safely and has a great time. For those that are staying home I hope that your preparations are enjoyed my family and friends that drop in.

Linda do take care and get some rest so that those achy muscles will feel better and your back and shoulder.

Sounds like most of you are going out of town for the holiday. So I'm hoping you'll all be safe and enjoy your time with friends and family. Ours will be a small gathering at home.

Margaret, glad to see that "spunky side" back. Yeah, it's a "whole lot of fun" getting ready for tomorrow. I've said it before and I'll say it now. You ladies deserve a WHOLE LOT OF CREDIT for keeping a house running like you do. I fall behind, get upset with myself for that, then get back at it. Can't be feeling sorry for myself, I'm doing the best I can, just don't have my DW's skills or knowledge and kind of fumble through some of the jobs, LOL!

Linda, what did you do to yourself?!?!?! Too much moving things around in your new settings? You've got to take it easy. I'm finding out, slowly but surely, our mind tells us we're still 30-somethings and can do all the things we used to and then WHAM! REALITY CHECK! So take it easy and take care of yourself. Why are you not having a Thanksgiving dinner?

Agnes, hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip. Kind of sad your furry buddy gets put in the kennel.

Mary, sorry to worry you. Just finding out how far behind I am on keeping the house up. Sounds like you're doing well. I will try to be more diligent with posting, but some days just get away from us, as so many of you have said and I'm learning what you mean. As for the weigh-ins I'll still post on both Fridays and you and the rest of the group can decide. I'm good with either one.

Bernie, it is amazing how dependent we are on these little screens. I always say "Technology is great until it doesn't work right...". You discovered that with the tower being knocked out. Makes you think about what could happen to the country if we had a "BIG" problem. We've seen the airlines getting shut down over computer glitches, don't even want to think of a major upset. Hope you're surviving the storm without too many problems.

Well I've rambled on enough once again. I truly wish ALL of you a most wonderful Thanksgiving Day and enjoy your time with family, friends and maybe someone new in life.
