Hi Friends,
As you know I've been MIA for several weeks. A dear friend reminded me that I need to do better at making myself a priority. A much needed reminder. As usual, the summer has been nuts at work and at home. We have a very intense work schedule in the summer with evening and weekend events as well as the usual days. At home, we enjoy a lot of company, but that leaves little time to do anything other than run from one thing to another. Everything has been going well, but I have not even been thinking about exercise or eating right. I have, however, been trying to make reasonable choices when I can.

So, here I am. I hope you'll forgive my absence. On my end, I'll try to be a better member of this group. September is another busy work month, but I will do my best to get back on track with checking in with all of you.

Mary, I did read your post about your grand daughter. How awful. I hope she recovers faster than anticipated.

Mary, so sorry to hear about your little Grand daughter. But glad they were able to find out what was the matter with her. Honestly at 7 years old it would be hard to find out where she had done the damage. Good luck in keeping her calm for the next 8 weeks. I'll keep her in my prayers.

Dwayne, thanks for the info yesterday. I'm not good at changes. I've never used the tracker on the orange bar. It was always just under the food tracker. Much easier for me. LOL

Going to the farmers market tomorrow to get my vegetables for canning . Today we have some transplanting to do and we have to get it done early this morning before it gets to warm. Here I was trying to cut my garden down and now I'm adding to it. Go figure.

I came to post my weight & only found that my last post of the 25th & Dwayne's were the last ones & thought no one else had posted, then after my weight posted & saw the new ones of today. Whey! I was glad to see them...few as they are!

Margaret sorry you didn't lose but at least you didn't gain!

Well we've had quiet a test this past 2 weeks with 7 y.o. GD. She started c/o hip pain & ended up in ER the saw her Pediatrician who was concerned enough to order blood work & MRI after finding that the pain was in her pelvic & lower back. MRI showed soft tissue swelling in her lumbar area so sent her to a specialist, Come to find out see has a fracture of L4 & we have no idea how it happened. She now has to wear a brace for the next 8 weeks. How are we to keep a 7 y.o. from running & jumping & everything else for that long? lol But thankful she will be ok. The doctor expects it to heal.

Dwayne, I see by your tracker that you found where to post your weight. I went snooping and found it in the trackers at the head of the page. When you press the weight it takes you back to the old page with your measurements and weight. so now I'm a happy camper again.

Margaret,

On the Orange toolbar at the top of your SparkPeople page under "My Trackers" move your cursor over to that, the drop down menu appears and I always enter my weight under the "My Weight" section. I do this on Fridays along with the '48ers message board. Hope that helps.

Working on changing the gym routine around a bit. I remember everything I've done in the past and I've been used to plateaus before, but never one that lasted this long. Normally they were 2-3 weeks, not months. Thanks for the encouragement Margaret, it means a lot.

Let me know how you do with the website and hoping to see some posts from Mary, Lynn, and everyone else.

Dwayne, did you find where you post your weight? I miss not having my measurements and weight tracking . I'll go give it a try and see what happens.

You hang in there Dwayne. By any chance can you remember what you did when you first started your journey on Sparks? Sometimes it helps to go back to the basics. Keep up the good work.

It might help also if you change your routine at the gym.

Hello All,

Margaret, I was wondering the same thing. I looked in the Anyone born in 1948 search and usually get to the thread, but the last reply there was mine from 3 days ago and I KNOW ALL OF YOU HAVE POSTED SOMETHING in the past 3 days!

Anyway, my weight was 210.0#'s today. UP 3+ pounds and so frustrating, yet makes me even more determined. Just trying to figure out where i'm going wrong, because no weight loss for 4+ months means I've drifted off somewhere.

Had a good gym workout today and working on "Honey-Do" list. Any Hubbies out there notice how the more you mark OFF the list the LONGER it gets? Just wondering...maybe it's my medications?!?!?!?

Hope all have a great week-end. I don't think you'll lose any info Margaret if you go looking around, just wondering where is everyone.

Hi Everyone,

Sounds like everyone is doing well and moving forward. Got in my gym time today, now for the "Honey-Do" list. Never can find that on the "Calories burned" list of exercises and I know a lot of Hubbies out there would consider that a workout in itself.

Weather here on the Left Coast is HOT! Today they're predicting thunderstorms possibly.

Calories for yesterday were - 1442 calories ( a bit low, but most of the time I can't eat all that they suggest. I know it's a guideline but ???) 25% carbs - 39% fat - 163 g's protein and 25g fiber ( a tad low).

Hope all are doing well and continuing their workouts, til next time...

Good Morning all! We had quiet some weather last night. Not much rain but my how the wind was blowing & lightening/thunder. Supposingly a cool front was coming through but it is noon now with temps of 90 degrees & high humidity so it's very uncomfortable to be outside. But will hopefully still do our walking before sunset.

Margaret, I sure am enjoying DH's company while walking. Actually he is reminding me that it's time to go! LOL

Oatmeal for breakfast this morning. Not sure about lunch yet & took chicken breast out of the freezer for supper.

Good morning all.

We've been having very nice weather. warm but not to much humidity so at lease we can get some work done outside.

We have a few things coming up. We have a mini family reunion with just our family . We will meet at an agricultural fair for the day. We go every year on Labour day. This year I'll be taking my walking buddy along with me.

Then the following week I'll be going to my sister's for a few days . We get to see them from time to time but it'll be nice to just hang with them for a few days.

Mary, I sure hope your knee eases up. So you can do more walking. It must be nice to walk with your hubby . Mine will come with me every once in a while.

It sure is nice having DH as a walking partner. Hip & knee painful but increasing distance a little everyday. Today, 0.8 miles. Hope to make an even 1 mile tomorrow. Feels like it's slow but afraid to not be able to make it all the way back on my own steam so we're making adjustments, plus it's not an even pavement all the way.

Hope everyone is ok. Awfully quiet here.

Hi all..... emoticon am down to 205.5 which is a 3 lb loss. I am very happy with that. I weighed in, just forgot to post it yesterday. DIL mom and dad are coming this next week for a couple of weeks so you can imagine what we are doing....LOL

Weather is feeling a little like fall, and I sure hope that is only temporary. I am not ready for fall yet!!!!

Joyce, so glad you are back. This is truly the place to be. There is lot of comradeship here and we all love each other.

Still not walking much. Am having terrible pain in my entire leg. I have a doctors apt next week. I miss not walking especially since the weather has been so nice.

Well, its getting time for me to start thinking about what to make for dinner. Son and DIL are going out to celebrate 21st Anniversary. She is starting dinner so I better go 'yell' at her.

emoticon Good Morning All. My weight stayed the same this week at 144.2. I haven't had much activity this week as I've been down with a head cold and ear infection. On antibiotics now so should be back and getting my steps in again soon. I've been back to tracking my food for the past two weeks now and it really helps me.

Good Morning '48er's,

Welcome back Joyce. I truly know what you mean about the weight coming back and it's so much harder now. At one point I'd gotten down to below 200#'s, put it all back on and more, then when I hit 275#'s I thought, that's it, I'm done doing it my way. Got the weight moving down, then joined Spark People and this group and haven't looked back, except to see how far I've come since...As you well kinow, we're all here for you and once again, welcome back to the flock.

Good week for me, weighed in today at 206.7#'s. Down a little from last Friday which I'll gratefully take. Now to keep these numbers moving down. Been getting 10,000 + steps in almost every day this month. My average for the month right now is at 13,000 +, so trying to just get those 10K in every day. The activity tracker helps quite a bit.

Hope all of you have a great week-end, the weather is good for you and your weigh-ins keep going down...

The humidity has dropped so the temperature is feeling better today . Although it's raining at the moment we are supposed to be having another nice day.

Good Morning, I have the app on my phone and it is great. Some things I can't figure out , but then I can rememdy that on computer later. It has helped me so much doing the tracker of food.
Does anyone else do the Trivia questions for Spark points , other than Dwayne. I see his name way up top on the leaderboards. Mine is near bottom. lol I find this is a fun way to earn points and learn at the same time.
Best go walking as my dog is waiting for me.

emoticon Joyce. I've done the same as you. Reached my goal and kept it off for about a year and then like you figured I didn't need to track my food anymore and boy was that a mistake. It is a lot harder to drop those pounds at 67. So we'll just have to emoticon at it.

Mary hope you have a nice trip with your little patient . Let us know if the new apt works.

emoticon Joyce! Good to "meet" you. I've been here for a few years. It's the only place for me! Fighting this battle is definitely harder as we get a little older but we try our best to keep going as much as possible. It will get great to have another 48er here.

Hi Joyce, I remember you from a long time ago. I am still active on here. Great Spark friends. Had been very sick with pancreatic cancer and lost a bunch of weight, but been good now for a couple of years and now have to watch my weight as I can gain in back very quickly. I am always hungry. Hello Everyone!
I am a long lost sheep, finally returning to the fold.
I started this post in 2007, lost the weight and reached my goal in 2011 (thanks to sparkpeople!) and figured "Wahoo!, I'm done"......WRONG. I lost the weight temporarily....Now, I'm back to where I started, and losing is even harder at 67 than it was at 59.

As of two weeks ago, I finally realized that I had to get reconnected with sparkpeople and with all the advantages it offers - including you 48ers - if I want to get back to my fighting weight. Thanks to all of you for keeping the thread alive.

I wish I had time to go back to the beginning and check on everyone's progress through the years, but that would definitely cut into my fitness time (216 pages of posts!) so I'll have to do it gradually.

In the meantime, I hope everyone has a good week.

Happy emoticon I remained the same this week. I'm happy.

We are in for some very hot weather this weekend. We need it it's been raining so much that the ground doesn't know what to do with all the water. LOL The hot weather will dry it up a bit before the rain comes back on Tuesday.

By the looks of it we have had a good weigh in so far. Hope the others have a good one as well.

Thanks Dwayne for the big WOO HOO. Same back to yourself and to Linda. We seem to have figured something out this week.

Linda, it has been so hot here in the interior as well. On the bright side we have thunderstorm warnings out for this afternoon and tomorrow. On the downside they are predicting so much rain that we have flash flood warnings to go with it. Never a happy medium it seems.

I hope it cools down for yourself in Ca as well Dwayne. When it gets this hot we feel like prisoners in our homes tied to the AC.

Congrats to you Theresa on the loss this week! Give yourself a big WOO-HOO! I'm at 208.1 which is down 1 pound from last week. Now to see if I can keep it moving in that direction.

Mary I know what you're talking about with the A/C. Here in So. Cal it's been in the 90's and we're going to get a couple days of 100+ this week-end. So the A/C will be cranking away. My DW is so miserable in this weather and she's a native.

Good Morning! I slept in this morning. Usually up before 6 but today it was almost 8. I can't believe I did that. Good thing I had nowhere to go.

Weight is down over a pound today at 144.2. I resorted to tracking for a week. It seems to have worked.

WOW Mary. I would have stayed in the house with the AC cranked up for sure. When we had our heat wave that is exactly what we did. Instead of the outside getting cleaned up we did the inside of the house. LOL

I managed to get in my walk yesterday before it got to hot . Today we are having a down poor so I think I'll be going to the mall to get in some walking.

Had a good day with my sister. The heat was the hottest today it has been all summer so far. Topped 101 with heat index of 114. But thankful for A/C!!

Dwayne Low Carb does work. 15 years ago I lost 60 lbs doing Sugar Busters & felt great. Kept it off for several years then allowed myself to gradually gain it all back. If I could psyc myself up enough to do it again I think I would feel better with this Fibro & arthritis. Hope it works to get you back on track.

Scale was better yesterday & again today. Think my scale doesn't like Fridays. LOL

Thanks for the info Margaret. I've done low carb before and am going back to it. I gather the 60 you referred to was grams per day? Also changing up my workouts a little this week. Hope it works.

I hope all of you had a great week-end. I'm hoping to do a bit more posting this next week. Trying to change a lot of things around without being on the computer for hours at a time.

emoticon am down 2lbs to 208.5 this week. Have not been under 210 for a very long time. emoticon

My cardioversion went well. They say everything looks good and I should have more energy now. I sure hope so. At least every thing is working as it should now.

Well, I gotta call my daughter. Sent her a lot of books a week ago and want to see how many she has read already....LOL She likes to read as much as I do.

Mary sorry I forgot to put the green scale on my post so I went back and edited it.

Dwayne, sometimes you just have to shake it up a bit before you get back on a loosing streak. Change your gym program for a few weeks instead of going to the gym maybe go biking.

If your counting your calories try another form of diet for a few weeks and then go back to your routine.

I use to count Carbohydrates .Your allow up to 60 carbs per day. So you leave the bread alone along with any pasta for sure. I ate meats, eggs, cheese little salad . I might have a huge hamburger (no bun) with cheese on it for breakfast and wasn't hungry till past noon. I know it sounds crazy but check it out it works.

It might just be what you need to get going again.

Good Morning All You '48ers,

Well, weigh-in this week is 209.1#'s! Couldn't believe it at first. That's up 2#'s from last week and the heaviest I've been since JANUARY of this year! I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong or not doing enough of?

Sounds like all of you are doing well, except for Char. Hope the Dr. says it's just a bruise or maybe some sort of ligament that's been stretched.

Been offline for a while. Last week I my hip sort of gave out, didn't fall but lost balance and now it is very sore. Walking shot pain and even just sitting it now is like a dull ache. Doctor says I may have chipped it since arthritis is so sever in that hip. So he is sending me to a surgeon monday. I've been using a cane and that keeps the weight off it and at least I can walk short distances. Hubby came home from the campgrounds so he can do most of the stuff around here. From so much non activity i gained 1.2 pounds this week.

So that is where I am at. Sounds like summer is keeping everyone busy and for some that is good but all the summer foods don't seem to help. Take care all, remember to always take care of yourself first. You are no help to anyone else if you aren't ok.

Agnes, great to hear from you. I'll say like Mary. Try to get some me time even if it's going out with the dog for a walk. Take care.

Mary , it was nice of you to go and help out at your patient's house . I'm sure they will appreciate all that you have done.

We had GGS sleep over again last night but it went much smoother then the night before. He's still sleeping so he'll be giving Grandpa a run for his money this morning as I have a birthday breakfast party with my friends. I should be back in time to put him down for his afternoon nap. LOL

Agnes, so good to hear from you. Hope you get some "me" time soon. You are always missed.

Margaret, yea, that sure makes for a LONG night. Hope you've been able to get a power nap in during the day today.

Well my little patient has been in the hospital since Monday so I have not actually worked this week but I did go in yesterday to "tidy" up since it's only the dad & older brother at home. Today I did the same & got quiet a bit done...washed, dried, folded & put away clothes & also helped older (16 y,o.) brother with a school paper he has to finish by Monday. It's my little guy's 13th birthday today & as I talked with him on the phone on my way home, he & his mom were preparing for discharge so glad I was able to get some things done for them today.

Well DH is on his way home from work so I'll say emoticon But not before I remind us all to get on the emoticon tomorrow & REPORT IN!

Hi Everyone,
I know it's been a long time since I've checked in with you, and I apologize for that. July and August are the busiest times at work and at home. Lots of evening events at work and lots of problems to deal with. And very little time for anything else. that's just the way it is. I think my weight is pretty much holding at 144, and that is good, but there's been very little 'me' time and I miss that.

I'll check in when I can and hope that you are all doing well.

Hi everyone. It's another sleepless in Laval night. I went to bed at 8;30 and GGS woke me up at 12;30 and now I'm still awake. Oh well it's going to be a long day.

I'm going to try to get my walk in later. But I'm going to have to be quick and get back home before he wakes up again. Grandpa will be here but he's always looking for Grandma.

Hope you try to calm down some Mary. I know it doesn't take much to make the BP go up so tae care will you.

Saw my cardiologist today for yearly check up. EKG good. B/P a little too high. Been under stress so I'm pretty sure that's all it was but he wants me to check it at home often to make sure.

Lynn, I'm also with you on gaining and losing the same few pounds over and over. I think I'll quit weighing myself.
Dwayne, I did measure myself the 1st of the month and also nothing has changed there.
About a month ago my kids gave me a FitBit exercise tracker. They put out challenges and invited me along with a few other family members and friends who have a FitBit. I'm the oldest one in the challenge. Last week I beat them all by walking 125,850 total steps. That's a little over 55 miles in a week, burned over 15,000 calories and managed to GAIN 1 1/2 lbs. It makes me want to give up! But, I won't.

Have a great Tuesday. I'm off to put some steps on my FitBit tracker. My son-in-law is ahead of me so far this week and I will try to beat him again.

Lynn I know what you mean about that same 5 pounds hanging around.

Mary, so sorry to hear you're in pain. Don't understand why you can't get another shot, but I'm not a Dr. and they should know best and keep you informed.

Does anyone still measure themselves on the 1st of the month? I did it again this month and not making any progress. Oh well, guess that means I need to look, listen, read, do what ever it takes. Still make my daily gym visits, so that's a good constant. Tomorrow I'll go for a change in machines and push the weights. Cardio is still at 80 minutes and getting my 10K steps in most every day.

Hi all,
I am down 1/2 lb this week emoticon to 210.5
I also seem to keep losing and gaining the same 5 pounds over and over. It is so frustrating.

I have had such a crazy week. Seems a lot has been going on. Dwayne, happy belated birthday to you....glad you enjoyed your birthday dessert.

My 2 Florida grandkids have gone back home. Seems so quiet without the other 2. I did not think I would miss them as much as I do. Dad is having a hard time with them being gone.

Mary, your little guy is blessed to have you with him. Glad your VBS went well and your camp counseling. That is something I always wanted to do but my health has not let that happen.

It has been absolutely beautiful here the last few days. In the high 80's but with lots of sun and a very nice breeze. The girls love to play out in the hose and sprinkler to cool off.

Next week I go have my cardioversion. Hope it slows down my heart rate some. Put in the silly pace maker to keep it from going too slow, now it wants to stay high with the flutter. Grrrr

Sent my daughter in Florida about 22 of my books that I have read. I think I am making a reading nut of her too. She loves to read but doesn't want to go thru all the junk to find a good book. Mine are just for her liking. Not one cuss word....and best of all the print is a little bigger so it is easier to read. Hope she enjoys them as much as I have.

My knitting is soso. I have dropped 3 stitches so far and do not know how to get them back. The only good thing is they are on the edge so they don't look Too obvious.

Well, its 11pm (yes I was reading! ) and I must go to bed now. Have a few summer cleaning things to do tomorrow. We cleaned out the garage, finally, and it looks great. And really big too....

It's been a really down day emoticon emotionally for me today. Not really sure what brought it on but I hate it! Also in allot of pain today with both my knees. It's only been 2 months since last steroid injection so can't call for another one yet.

Hope all of you are well. Margaret, glad you got some new shoes. Sounds like you'd worn the old ones out if you could feel little rocks when you walk. Maybe you should consider swapping them out when you start feeling things like that?

Weight for me this week was 206.2; think that's down about a 1/2 pound, but working on changing things up a bit. Ever notice how weight goes up like a rocket, but comes down like a feather? Somehow that's just not right...

Hi everyone. Sorry to check in so late. I was down 2 pounds weighing in at 231 this week. Now if only I can keep it off it would be nice.

Hubby got me new shoes and walking sticks yesterday and I gave them a work out this morning. It felt great on my feet to be able to walk over the little rocks without feeling everyone right up to my knees. LOL
