Thanks for the encouragement Theresa. I did outlast that ice cream craving. And I'm not having it tonight either. Welcome Tee. That's a big family! Must be a lot of fun when cousins get together.

Our oldest "child" is 53 and the youngest is 34; oldest grandchild is 36 and the yougest is 3; oldest great-grandchild is 18 and the youngest is 4 months. We live in a small rural community community in central Maine.

Margaret - that's exactly what I fear...they are growing up so fast and soon they will have better things to do than spend a weekend at grandparents. So, I'm enjoying it while I can.
Pringle - I hope you outlasted the craving for ice cream. I just realized I still have some date squares in the freezer and I'm really tempted to have one but what holds me back is that tomorrow is weigh in day. I'll fill up on water too and hope it passes. Hugs, Theresa

Good Morning Everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. Pringle - the walk to church and back sounds like a great idea. Califshewolf - I have an ellipitacl trainer at home as well and I love it. It's really great to use any time but when you have a joint problem you just can't beat it for the best workout ever.
It was grand kid weekend. We had a blast. Two stayed over Friday night to most of Saturday and the other two came over on Saturday afternoon and stayed until Sunday afternoon. Going to work today will seem like a nice rest.
Have a great day all! Hugs, Theresa

Califshewolf, Every little bit helps wether it's out walking or doing your elliptical machine. You'll just be in better shape when you start outside.
on dropping those 30 pounds.I know it's a lot of hard word so keep up the tracking and your elliptical machine and you'll drop off more.

WOW! Good for you! I am hoping to be able to do that again some day soon. I have been trying to increase my time on the elliptical, since after the knee replacement, it is one of the things the doc says I can do, and I have one in the living room! For the past 2 days, I did 10 minutes at a time, which is a big improvement over the 3 minutes I was able to do before my knee swelled up. I hit 30 pounds off this weekend, so I feel pretty darn good about myself today. Congrats on your 6 mile walk..I'm jealous! Califshewolf/De

Good Morning Everyone! I hope the weekend is going good for you. Can you believe it? We are actually getting some rain and slushy snow the last two days. Margaret, thanks for sending it our way!
Deanna, you are absolutely right. When one door closes another will open for your DH and he WILL get another job, and it will be a better one. We will all think those positive thoughts and it will happen. In the meantime I hope you won't feel too stressed out over it.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend! Hugs, Theresa

Hi All,
Up here in the Northeast, you just don't think snow when someone says California! 3 Feet! wow!!!
Most of ours has melted we still have the ugly dirty snow banks and I can't take down my Christmas yet, much is buried in snow still. We had several good storm which left us with a nice ground cover for several weeks.
I haven't been around much. Big news on my scene is DH has given notice on his bookstore job. New mgr since September it has just gotten bad, the guy is out to get everyone to quit and he is doing a good job. I guess he must want to hire his own people. Anyway, my DH can take no more and says they don't pay him enough to put up with this stuff. So, I am just hoping he finds another job real soon because this one really helped to supplement my income and help us out of the hole we are in.
Oh well, I have to keep a good thought and remember that when one door closes another opens and it will be fine. We have our health, food, shelter and many blessings.
Have a good day! Deana

Good Morning All!
Pringle - Wow...six days of rain! We could sure use that here. It's been the driest winter ever. I think we have only shoveled snow three times this winter. If we don't get some much needed precipitation this spring we will be in trouble.
Have a great day everyone! Hugs, Theresa

Hi Patty, Nothing has worked for me to keep the pounds off until Spark. I think the food tracker was the first biggie for me. I now know how many calories I eat and also how it breaks down in to fat, carbs, protein, calcium, fiber etc. I am shopping better, cooking better. Also the stories are so encouraging and amazing. Don't give up track your food, don't weigh every day at first. Once a week will show you something.

The storm is over and we have about 3 feet of snow. The wolf is having a blast leaping and shoveling through it. Unfortunately, we have to dig our way out today since we have tickets for a show in the desert this evening.
Patty, I have been a yoyo dieter most of my life and I have a million excuses for not exercising. Even now, I am breaking in a new titanium knee, but I can still find exercises to do. Yesterday, I couldn't go outside to 'play', but I put a step stool in front of the TV and did "step-ups" for as long as I could while watching a really funny movie. I have a 2nd floor, so I went up and down the steps a few extra times and I even did leg exercises in the jacuzzi. The trick is to keep moving, keep busy, and find something to do that keeps your mind off food. One of the things I love about this site is that so many people can give you support and ideas on how to stay motivated. Why not browse through all the articles, blogs, and forums? I know for sure there are thousands of good suggestions and bits of advice..you just have to look for it. So, for now, get up, shake it off, and get moving! Hugs, De

Good Morning Everyone and welcome to the new 48'rs. I haven't gotten any e-mails for awhile saying there was any activity on this site so haven't been around, decided to check this morning and had a lot of catching up to do...lol..
It sounds like everyone is on track this year and doing well so far. Let's all keep up the good work.
The last few weeks winter has been extremely mild here to the point that it doesn't seem right! Absolutely no snow left.
Have a great day everyone! Hugs, Theresa

Hi Margaret..I only brought home one wolf puppy, who was the love of my life and died of cancer at 4 years old. The rest of my wolves and hybrids were all adults who were abandoned, abused, or in danger of being put to sleep. While I really discourage people from trying to keep them as pets, they are intensely loyal and protective of me and have given me more than I could ever give them. I'm not particularly brave, but I just had to establish my dominance as alpha wolf.

Hi All.. Welcome to all of you new folks!
I am another 1948er who hangs around here. I have been married 39 years to the same great guy. Now, we are doing it together, although he does not and never really diets (not that he shouldn't!) but he is going to the gym with me now. He is in really good shape and looks great. I can't say the same, I poured myself into my slacks this morning and added a jacket to cover up the bulges. Good Grief I hate that! We did make it to the gym tonight and if I can stay on track and lose these 10 pounds I have gained back the slacks will feel much better and so will I.
Have a good one.

Hi Janet. For most of my 61 years, I have been on my own even when I was married. You are right..it IS hard doing it alone, but it is just as hard trying to do this when your other half is not supportive. Luckily, my wonderful guy is really on my side, even though he doesn't have to lose weight himself. You can do it..you have all of us!

Thanks for the welcome, Margaret. My name is De, and I live 6200 feet up a mountain in the San Bernardino National Forest in southern California. I have been rescuing "unrescuable" animals, mostly wolf hybrids, for the past 14 years and they are my babies. I have two adult kids who live in Pittsburgh, PA, so I don't get to see them very often. After being widowed in 2002, I have finally found my soul mate and we are living happily ever after!

1948 - what a great year!!!
I never thought about being this old - did you? I don't mind being over 60 - I just don't like feeling over 60. I am really working on getting back into shape - don't remember how I got so out of shape, but it sure was easy. LOL. Reversing the process is hard. I am stiff all over. oh well - its for a good cause - ME!
Good Luck to all.

Would you believe I got 20 points on the spin and that is the 3rd time I have gotten 20 since Christmas. Before that it was almost always 1 with an occaisional 2 or 3. I thought that was pretty neat!I try to do enough on the site to get over 50 pts. The 20 SP gave me made it easier.

Hi, I just found this site yesterday. There is so much info on here, I'm impressed! My fiancé and I have made a pact to get married as soon as we lose 50 lbs a piece! We joined the gym and are counting calories. Wish us luck. We are hoping to reach our goal by summer.... Weight comes off so much more slowly at our age doesn't it! DK

Good Morning everyone and welcome to the new 48'rs. You will love this site. There is so much encouragement and support for each other here. Come by often and tell us about yourself.
Congratulations to all who have gotten back on track with the exercise in this new year. Margaret, sorry to hear that the Curves near you has closed down. Is there another one in your town that is nearby? I really love the one here. My daughter gave me a new exercise DVD for X-mas and I have done it a couple of times already as well. It's great for the days I don't go to Curves. It was really hard at first, couldn't move a muscle the next day..lol..but it's getting a bit easier now.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all in the weight challenge tomorrow. Hugs, Theresa

Hi Margaret First you do your warm ups like you do for any of your exercises. They have a DVD to guide you. There ate so many thing you can do. Dance to the oldies is my favorite and the one I made up. I can't watch the DVD as I don't have a player or on my puter either. I slept good again last night. I also got myself at set of dinner ware. Service for one. 9 inch plate aa coffee mug and bowl. Colbolt Blue $1 for each pc. I got the trampoline at WalMart. It has a meter on it like a stationary bike so you can keep track of calories step and time. I love it. Just google rebound exercise and it will tell you all. Penny

Penny, what exactly do you do? Just jump up and down on the trampoline? I think I'm going to check it out as well.
Linda, Good for you starting the boot camp. I wish i had the determenation to get at it myself.
Deana, good job so far keep up the good work.
I went to join curves yesterday just to find out that they have closed.I tell you nothing went the way I wanted it to go . I went to work and I thought I would by a WII instead but they didn't have any either. So I'm still looking for somewhere or something to get back into shape.
Keep tracking everyone and hang in there. Hugs Margaret

Hi All
I am on day one.. I couldn't start anything until the weekend was over. I have had weeks of mindless munching, but it is over now.
I went to the gym, tracked my food and planned all day.
Day 1 ..is a job well done!
Now, we will see what day 2 will bring.

Hi everyone Doing very well so far this year yep 4 days now. lol Took up rebound exercise and trust me it does what it says so far. Sleep, I slept like I never have in a long time. I started like it said just 2 min at a time as many times a day as you want. I totaled 20 min. yesterday and slept so well. Got a mini Trampoline $30.00 was all it was. I have been reading about rebound exercise for some time and it offers so much. Just google rebound exercise and it will give you all the benefits it gives. I will keeps posting and let you know how it is helping. They say if you even have an over active child get them on it too it will settle them down. Better then medication.lol Penny

Trying to stay in shape to keep up with my kids. I'm usually a jogger, but the winter months make it difficult. I've turned to spinning at the gym and it has helped. Wishing you all a great 2010.

Happy New Year Everyone!
I hope we are all up for a real challenge and ready to take on our goals for the New Year. I have to take off all this weight I have put on in 2009. It was not a good year for maintaining. So, back to the gym and on track for staying healthy!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! Hope you all had a great day. It's been non stop here for the last week. Talk about running around.Visited old neighbours and had the family over on Christmas morning. There was 18 of us for a Christmas brunch everyone helpped out so that was good. my day started at 5;00 and my son arrived at 6;00a.m. and wanted to know where his sister and her family were. That's when the fun started. they all piled into the car again and off they went to her house where he rang the door bell and ran.But the were up and doing their Christmas presents. Within a half hour they had arrived at my house. What a day it was so nice because my son's new girlfriend has 2 6years old and you can't beet the inocense of the children. It was lovely. We opened our stocking and then it was brunch time. Then we all opened our gifts that santa had left for us. It was nice having everyone home at the same time. My daughter had a co worker from Japan who was going to be alone so we had her come up for our big meal in the afternoon. Santa must have known she would be there because he had left her a little something as well. By 8p.m I was dead.lol I couldn't stay awake anymore. But it was worth it. lol Hope your day was as good as mine. Now I only have to see if I will still be in the chalenge on Wednesday,There was a lot of goodies out there.lol Hugs Margaret

Happy Boxing Day everyone! I hope Christmas was a great day for you all. We had a beautiful day here with the family. We all ate too much...lol... Now it's time to make turkey soup. We have another big day on Tuesday when we get together with extended family. Probably be around 30 or more people there. It's always nice to see everyone and catch up on their news. Have a great day today! hugs, Theresa

Hope you had a wonderful Merry Christmas!
We had a lovely day, we had a visit from Santa that brought us a few little things and a lot of fun. Sarah spoils everyone. I can't imagine who she gets that from. She and Ryan made candles and soap, she made lovely scrapbooks for her two closest cousins and they were so pleased.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. I don't think I will be on anymore until after the holidays. My health is much better and I feel that I can return to a normal life style. Thank God I have maintained my weight with a little added for a bit but got it back down. We are having our family Christmas on Jan.2 so starting Jan.3 it is back to the issues of my weight I need to attack. I know it is going to be a better year for me. This is the first year in about 20 we have had the oldest daughter home for any holiday. It should be fun. See you all next year. Oh I will read the posts.

Linda, Good luck with those tests. I agree with you that Deanna and Margaret can keep the snow in their areas. We have a few inches of snow on the ground now so definitely will have a white Christmas. Hugs, Theresa

Good Morning, Well I am out of our challenge. I can not control my eating over Christmas. I am still worried about my up coming tests. Yesterday I got the date for the mamogram which is Jan 13th. The ultrasound I have not heard yet. Deana, As much as the snow is so pretty, please keep it at your place. You too Margaret. We had snow but just for one night and in the morning it was all gone. No shovelling that time. Better go as hubby is anxious to go shopping. Guess I will be getting something for Christmas after all. He does all his shopping over the computer to check if it is in stock before going in to the stores. Saves him time and all the walking. Cheers, Linda

We had a bit of a blizzard; I think we got about 8-10 inches of the lovely white stuff. It is all shoveled out but I am working from home; just no good reason to go to the office today.

Happy Saturday..
We are expecting a snow storm here. My house is filled with extra sleeping people, so I am tiptoeing around making my coffee. DD had her annual sleep over with friends (still going on at 26) this year included a toddler. They tell me even after she moves out I am to expect this tradition to continue. Time will tell.
Hope the coffee is ready soon.

Hi All
I just baked a birthday cake. DH is going to be 60 on Thursday and this was my only chance to bake it when he was not home. I have not done any of the cookies and things I would like to do.
I have to bake for Saturday and I am hoping to find time on Friday, but I have to make pulled pork for a pot luck. I may just cook that one all night as to not tie up the oven.
Penny, I am sorry to hear you have not been well. We have missed you. Hope you are 100% real soon. Deana

Hi, Well yesterday we did get snow. It was coming down so fast and looked beautiful when we went to bed. Woke up to rain, and very slushy roads. I was happy that I didn't have to shovel driveways. Our grandkids have a concert at school tonight in Victoria, but we decided not to drive down for it. We can't stay down overnight because of our dog. Our DD is also having trouble with her marriage so we don't want to be in the way. I will be able to see the concert on a video later so that is ok with me. Baking more today so now I am done. Not another thing I hope, unless it gets eaten up too quickly. I have people coming over tomorrow evening for a get together as lots of our friends are going away for Christmas so we want to visit before they leave. Hope you get your shopping done Margaret. See most of you on the challenge board tomorrow. Cheers, Linda

Hi everyone I've been under the weather since 11/1. Dr. changed some meds and I had a reaction to the Lisinopril. I don't wish this on anyone. Was in the ER twice. Started out as a dry cough and then a sore back. Got to the point I could not walk more than a few feet at one time. Pain and more pain. Spent most of the time at my daughters home. Still coughing some more like a cold now. Go back to Dr. tomorrow. I want to get back to normal. Enough of that. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. Penny
On World Vegetarian Day, most people aren't willing to trade in their turkey for tofurkey. Luckily, you can still reap the benefits of vegetarianism by trying flexitarianism on for size.
