Hi All
As there is so much discussion about weather we are in the worse drought I have ever seen in our area. They have restricted outdoor watering to 1 day a week.
This is so very unusual for us, but we had no snow and now we have had no rain for most of the summer. It has been very hot in 90s most days. Massachusetts generally has a few hot spells but nothing prolonged.
Anyway, we are watch rain move this way on radar and are really hoping we get a good about but not too much at once which will just cause flooding without benefit.

We are still walking we have been doing a very early morning walk before the heat gets to us. We don't have AC, but we do have the pool and use it.

I am so ready for rain. I can't imagine living in areas that get to over 100.
Too much.

Hang in there and enjoy the summer weather, it will be cool soon enough.

Hey '48ers',

Well, it's one of those "blah" days for me. No real reason, just no motivation and trying to figure out what it might be.

Margaret, you are right, we need to get it together and the way I'm going today isn't a good thing. Hoping you and everyone else is doing well.

Bernie, sounds like the camping trip is a success.

Mary, glad to see your post and hoping the next phase of your life will be filled with many blessings. The blessings are there, we just need to "see" them.
I know every day I'm given is a blessing and to be grateful for it, but sometimes we get in our own way.

Celie, when I saw that post of the temps being 106 in WASHINGTON?!?!?! I couldn't believe it. I would have thought a heat wave there is in the 80's, not over 100! Hope you get some relief soon. We're still looking at 90+ all this week. Agnes, I think you may be the only one with some sort of cooler temps, but I'm sure you're dealing with other weather issues. But the weather is what it is, can't do a thing about it but grin and bear it.

Well I'm off to go do ???. Staying out of trouble would be a good start...

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Too many good meals on our camping trip - no scale and unfortunately don't think I made my mini goal but I think I am still in the 170s. Will let you know when I get home and weigh in.

Sorry about my long absence. Scale today @ 190.4 which is 3.6 lbs down from a week ago so even though I did not get to my end of the month goal to see the 180's, I am pleased.

So good to see all the activity & posts here when I check in the board this morning.

Bernie & Dwayne, thanks for your concerns, It has just been a very busy & emotional week, although it has been a blessed one. Another phase of my life was ending and I just didn't have the time to post but hope to be back to being more active here again very soon.

Happy Weigh-In '48er's,

That is a bit "tongue-in-cheek" as I'm weighing in at 222.2#'s. Lot's of 2's and that's not good. Up from last Friday and I know why, but it's going to take me more than a day to get it off, I know that and accept it. I don't have to like it, just be more aware which I DON'T do often enough. I go into this "Auto" mode and just don't THINK about what I'm doing. Now that's bad I know, but it's me and it's something I need to work on and know I can achieve.

Deanna, so good to see you post and your success on your weight. Sounds like the hectic home activities are working to your benefit. I know it may not be what you want, but if it works... So glad to read all the posts about the Xhose. Can't believe it! I know the TV commerciials you'd think it was better than sliced bread and seems that 3 of 3 of you have NOT had good success with it. I did have one of the slinky type hoses years ago, but I think it got stolen, because I haven't seen it and my memory is not all it used to be. Hmmm...

Hoping all of you have a great week-end.

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,

Reading down post Bernie, I had a Pocket hose and it burst after being left on but with the stop turned on the end. I loved the weight, but I went back to the old kind.
I got it at a good hardware store so it wasn't a knockoff.

Hi Everyone,
It's been a busy week here as I know it is for all of you. We had a bad thunderstorm a few days ago. It knocked out power and internet, but unfortunately it didn't knock out the heat. Still humid and uncomfortable here, but we are starting to get used to it I guess.

Not a good week for weight. I'm up to 147 today, at least in part due to several salty meals, visitors, houseguests, and dinners out. I am determined to get a grip on all this today.

Take care everyone.

Agnes

Good Morning '48ers',

Wow Bernie, how lucky can you get?!?!?! Only need to pack your clothes. Enjoy your trip and the time with family. Hope you reach your goal for this month. I know I've missed mine, so I get back at it. I also was LOL over your comment about "that's what I get for $8.00". So true, know that if the price is cheap, so is the item. True some times you can find a deal; other times some places try to gouge you, but the "slinky hose" you saw on line I was wondering why you don't order it? Or you can have a local Wal-Mart (our family calls it 'Wally World') order it and have it shipped to their store to pick-up, whatever's easiest for you. I usually order items on-line and have them shipped to the store or to the house, if I'm getting free shipping.

Margaret, how are you doing? Hope all is well.

Also, wondering about Mary, AZ Caroline, WA Celie, WA Caroline, Deanna, PAPASNAPDRAGON, Where are all you folks? Your posts and words of wisdom are missed. Hoping you are all well and life is good.

Weill I'm off, to do ???

Hello,
I am lucky that my daughter and her friend are packing up everything for our camping trip! I just have to show up tomorrow with my clothes. Can't beat that!

My brother is posting on facebook that if you smoke - STOP. So I guess he is going for it.

Margaret, I saw one of those hoses on line but when I went to Walmart today they didn't have them. I ended up buying a lightweight hose for $8 and came home to give my plants a good watering. And now I know what you get for 8 bucks. I should just give up trying to grow anything but yucca!

Also, Margaret, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I have lost several very dear people in my life to cancer and being a cancer survivor I know how awful the treatment is as well. We need a cure for so many dreadful diseases.

Well off to bed so a camping I can go!

Good Morning '48ers',

Posting earler than usual so that 1) I don't forget and lose the day and 2) going to the gym shortly and wanted to see the posts.

Bernie, you go girl! Take the garbage back to the store and let them deal with it. Don't know if I can blame this on products not being made in the U.S. but I'll try. As for the Xhose, I'm somewhat surprised they don't have a guarantee of some sort on the package, unless they're aware it breaks down in a couple months, so they don't have to bear the responsibility. Glad to hear about the Sleep Number bed since I've thought about maybe getting one of those. If we should I will make sure to get it in writing that I can return it with no charge. By the by, are you all set for your camping trip? Looking forward to hear the outcome. How's your brother doing? I know what he must be feeling with EVERYONE telling him to quit. I think your thoughts are right; let HIM decide it's time to quit. All the talking in the world will not change his mind, as I speak from personal experience on an issue like this. Just give him love and understanding, no lectures and he'll come around.

Margaret, I know just what you mean about your friend and how someone just seems to vanish before your eyes. I've seen it with my Mom, her twin Sister, which I felt was a preview of what could and did happen to my DM. Also, one of my aunts. I just don't understand why, in this day and age, they haven't come up with better cures for this disease. I mean, they've cured so many other things. My DW thinks it's Big Pharma that's restraining it because of all the $'s they make. I hate to say it, but at times I almost feel she could be right, which would be so sad. The more I learn about our government and it's actions the more concerned I am for us all...

Mary, I'll echo Bernie's words, you're missed on the board. I tried to look back and see if you were going to be gone this week, but heat is getting to the computer (You may be right Margaret, LOL) and it's bouncing around, which frustrates me. Guess I've gotten to the point I need "instant work" and not this wonky, jerking around. Anyway, since I lost it for a moment there, hope you're not overdoing it Mary and not getting the proper rest. How do you feel now since it's been a while since your little "Whoops"? Nothing more bruised than the ego? I truly know how that feels.

O.K. Enough of this "morbid" talk. As a sidenote to Bernie, I'm what my DW calls "anal" about keeping receipts. Some I'll keep for 60 days or when the store WON'T take a return after so long, but on some things I'll save the receipts for years and if a product says "Lifetime guarantee" look out if it breaks in 2 years, it's coming back! Also learned from a house fire that the Insurance Co. adjuster expected to see receipts for things like socks, underwear, you know things you throw out in a couple months. So another lesson learned the hard way.

Again, I think I lost it on that so I'll just say hope everyone has a great day...
Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Good morning everyone. Hubby and I met up with one of our dear friends yesterday for lunch. What a shock I had when she got out of the car. She had told me that her cancer had come back but I didn't realize to what extent . I hug her just to find bones. I wanted to hug her tighter and was afraid to in case I broke her in half. At the moment I have 3 friends with the same thing and I'm not liking it one bit. Sorry I just needed to tell some one.

Bernie, My daughter had another hose that looked like a spring. I don't know if that would be any good for you but she sure liked it. She found it in Walmart.

Dwayne, keep up with those exercises and if you have to do only one thing in the day try to finish that one thing off. Hubby and I have been trying to do that . He will work on one thing and when he's done he'll take a little snooze. Me on the other hand no snooze because then I wouldn't sleep at night. LOL

I'm off again today for another day of running around with a friend to go and see my sister. It should be fun.

Hugs Margaret

Hi all,
Dwayne, I have taken a couple of the xhoses back but I forgot to save the receipt for this one. After trying to move a big hose today to use temporarily and not being able to lift it I decided I am going to look at Walmart tomorrow for another expandable hose. This time I will keep the receipt And no they don't print any kind of warranty on the package for these. Another thing I am returning is a Slip and Slide I bought for my grandkids and they played on it twice. The second time was cut short when it tore. I did keep that receipt. My DH and I tried one of those sleep number beds several years ago and it was not a good fit for us. Fortunately, the company we bought it from did not charge us and replaced it with another mattress set we selected. Sometimes it all works out and other times not so much.

One good thing about the hose situation and my poor plants is that about 5 today we got a nice rain shower! The plants looked happy!

My brother is being given a lot of advice about how to quit smoking and he is getting a little testy about it. So....I think I will let him try to wrap his head around it. He needs some time to rest and get over the infection causing the swelling around his heart so it should give him some time to think.

I had both grandsons today and they wore me out. It is harder having them both. However, while the little one was napping the older one helped me with some chores which was nice. And they keep me hopping which is a workout too

Mary, we are missing you. I hope you are not overdoing it. I remember when there were days of few posts but you and Margaret seemed to keep our group going with your daily posts. Take care of yourself!

I ate badly today but there is always a clean slate beginning in the morning. Here's to all of us reaching our goals and taking to time to enjoy the moment!

Hi '48er's,

Just a quick note. No Margaret, everything is fine, I'm doing good, just the day TOTALLY got away from me. One of those days I'll look back on tonight and say "What did I accomplish today?" and that "Committee of My Mind" will respond NOTHING! That's how I feel right about now.

Did get to the gym and do a little shopping. But as for the 'Honey-Do' list, didn't make it today.

Agnes, if I can motivate anyone, in any way, I'm grateful for that. I love to walk outside also and take the dogs for their walks, but the heat here is just too much.
Outlook shows high 90's for the rest of the week. I'm sorry, but that's just a tad bit much. I feel for my sister in Texas; high humidity, heat AND rain and thunderstorms. I know Mary has got to be feeling it in LA. also.

Celie, so glad to hear you're getting back into. We can't start the journey until we take the 1st step...

With that profound thought I'll say,
til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Hi All,

Yes, still hot and humid here, and this morning weather report told us that we'll be in the 90s today. Dwayne, you're right, there's no real reason for me to not get on the treadmill. Just my lack of motivation and the fact that there's nothing appealing about going into the basement to exercise when I just love to be outside to walk. However, you have given me the push that I need. Thank you! I do need to do some errands in a few minutes, but then I'll get on that treadmill!

Let's all take good care of ourselves during this difficult weather time.

Best,
Agnes

Happy Hotter than you know where '48ers',

Bernie, so glad to her your brother got released. I would think having been in the hospital for a couple of days and not smoking AND the diagnosis, that would be enough to get him to stop. I (being a former smoker who quit cold turkey 19 years ago) know how tough it can be, but tell him to think of others who need him around, it's not about his cravings. Don't mean to sound self-righteous as there were more than a few days I wanted nothing more than to light up. Just tell him when he's got an urge, give it 10 minutes, do something and see how he feels. Usually the urge will pass if you do something to get your mind off of it. Ask AZ Caroline, her working out is an example of that and how she felt after church yet went and exercised. Poor comparison? Maybe, but it's just an example. O.K. I've stepped down off my "Soap Box". As for packing for the camping trip being exercise, I'd say that qualifies as an example of heavy cleaning or housework...Your camping trip sounds like it's going to be a good time for you. PS: thanks for the update on the quality of the XHose. Often wondered and never heard anything about them. Doesn't it come with some sort of a guarantee that's longer than 3 months? That's where I argue with people, and take things back. I'm a grumpy ol' man about those kind of things... Hey, if anyone in the group has had any experiences good OR bad about some product, maybe we should start posting about that? I know for me it's Tempurpedic beds. Bought one, hated it, returned it and it COST ME $500.00 to do that! Lesson learned; do more research before I buy anything that costs more than a few bucks...

AZ Caroline, so proud of you for your determination AND setting out your plan AND putting it into action. You are right about the lack of motivation. I got up this morning and had the intention of NOT going to the gym, then after a couple hours that same light bulb went off and I said this is crazy; I can't get where I want to go if I don't take a step forward, so I went to the gym. Just trying really hard not to hurt my shoulder patting myself on the back!!!

Margaret, I'm not sure if it's the heat or what. But I like the thought. Hmmm, maybe I can use that excuse on DW when I mess something up..."Honey, the heat made me do it?!?!?!"

Agnes, at least you tried and I can understand the heat getting to you. Just wondering why you're not using your treadmill? Put a fan in front of it, start walking and enjoy yourself. No muss, no fuss...

As for me, today was Upper body and cardio workout at the gym. It was a shortened workout; just over an hour, but I'll take it.

And with that I'm outta here...
Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

It is cloudy here and I so wish it would rain. First because we need it and second because my xhose (you know the expandable hose they show on TV) broke yesterday and my plants need some water. I buy the xhose because I can't handle a real hose any more and the concept is great but they only last for me 3 months or so. Anyone found a brand that works and lasts?

I'm doing laundry and packing for our in town vacation. Since we live in a tourist area things book up quickly. My daughter managed to find us a couple of camping spaces at a place called Lightner Creek very close to Durango so we are going camping very close to home. Should be a lot of fun with my grandsons & another young mom and her kids. If we forget something it won't be far to go to get itl But the campground feels like you a long way from home.

My brother was released from the hospital. He was told not to think about driving back to Oklahoma City today so he is resting in a motel room until in the morning when he and his wife will make the trip. He is feeling better with the meds they gave him. I don't really know his diagnosis but they told him to quit smoking and we will see how that goes.

I think packing for camping should fall into the realm of exercise. This is turning into quite a chore. LOL

Have a good day!

Nice to see everyone's posts. I think we need to listen to our bodies during this difficult weather. I tried to walk yesterday and didn't get very far either. Still it was good to be outside for awhile, and really good to get back inside for a drink of ice water. I have a 7:30 am meeting this afternoon for a volunteer group for our local hospital, then I will try for another walk. I can't seem to push myself to get on my treadmill in the basement.

As for other exercises, I haven't been doing any but I used to do some work with weights especially for my upper body. I need to get back to doing that.

Wow Caroline AZ. hats off to you . I wish I had your determination. I can't seem to handle the humidity. But then again we are not use to having the humidex up in the 40's C. But I'm going to check out those DVD's for walking the pounds off. Maybe if I can stay cool at the same time I might get back to walking.

We left the house at 6 yesterday morning for our walk and we couldn't do what we normally do. the heat took over and we were drenched at about the quarter of the way done. I had to tell my daughter I had to go back. On the return to the house I could barely put one foot in front of the other. I love summer but this is really a bit to much. If we could only manage to bottle it for the winter months I would be happy.

Bernie, so sorry your BIL is still in hospital. But at lease they kept him for more tests. Hopefully they will find out what's happening to him.

I loved seeing all the posts today. Dwayne, maybe your computer was acting up because of the hot weather as well. emoticon

I have blood test to go to first thing this morning. Here it's first come first served so we try to get there for opening. My daughter will be here to get me at 5;30am so we can be first in line. Then we will wait till 7 when the doors open. How's that for being on time.

Hope you all have a great day.

Hugs Margaret

Nice to see an upbeat post. Congrats on your new plan and thanks for inspiring us.

Update on my brother. He did not get released as planned. He remains in ICU where they are doing more tests and giving him breathing treatments as they wait for the results of new tests. They hope to transfer him to a room tomorrow. His aorta is swollen and they are doing IV antibiotics in case there is a secondary infection. I'm grateful his wife is with him.

I ate well today, tracked my food and got in some exercise working in the garage so hope the scale shows some improvement tomorrow. Really trying to lose 2 pounds this week. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi, Everyone - I've been Sparking every day but I just haven't had anything to write about. Every day pretty much the same: hot and hotter with not much relief in sight. Last night at 9:00 p..m. DH took the dogs out for a walk and it was still 109 degrees out! emoticon emoticon

Sounds like we are all having the same problem getting motivated! I have been doing everything but very "halfheartedly" lately. emoticon Then about two days ago it was light a light bulb went on in my head emoticon and I thought "you need to get serious and start exercising." Problem is I hate exercising. emoticon I like the kind of exercise where you are "doing something" like bowling, volleyball, etc. but getting on a piece of exercise equipment or doing an exercise class is just not something I enjoy at all. However, seeing the light, I realized that this isn't about what I like - it's about what I need. So, I pulled out my dumbbells and my Walk Away the Pounds DVD and started my new routine - exercise every single day, no matter what! I decided to rotate my routines so I wouldn't be doing the same thing every day. I'm doing the 1 mile one day, then the 2 mile, then the 1 1/2 with interval strength training and finally the 3 mile walk. You see I know me, and if I take off even one day, I'm finished. That little devil in my head says, "You deserve to rest. Just take off today. emoticon I need to listen to that other little voice that says emoticon emoticon

So, Celie, you asked what people are doing - that's what I'm doing. And, I have to honestly tell you all that I came home from church today and I just felt like all I wanted to do was sit on my duff and rest today. So, no one was more surprised than me when I said to DH, "I'm going in the other room to do my exercise DVD." I did the 1 1/2 mile with internal strength training, and when I got done, I felt great. What a surprise! And, all of a sudden, I don't care about the scale so much emoticon . I am focusing on eating healthy, staying in my calorie range, getting the proper balance of carbs, fat and protein and toning this old bod!

Will I keep up the good work I've started emoticon All I know is I'm going to give it my best shot.

Hope everyone has a good week and no matter how last week was, this is a new chance and emoticon

Sorry about a 2nd post. Computer was acting all "WONKY" so I had to re-boot. It was lagging behind my typing and I'd type a letter and it would litterally be 3-10 seconds before it would show on the message. Got frustrated, so I shut it down thinking I'd have the Edit box to finish?!?!?! Wrong! Anyway, I'm back and it's O.K. now. Don't know what's causing it for certain. Need to look into this instead of wasting time on "busy work" to avoid doing something.

Anyway, as I was writing Celie, after I do the 3 day routine I do another 3 days, then do the 1st day and then take a rest day. I'll start back with the 2nd day's exercise and work through a 7 day pattern, then a rest day, and finish with the 3rd week of rotations. I change the cardio each week also. From a recumbent bike, to a treadclimber to a self-propelled treadmill, so I try to keep boredom out of my workouts.

Bernie, so sorry to hear about your brother. Amazing how he gets 3 different outcomes from different Dr.s'. I know they say medicine is a science but you'd think they'd have a little better idea before they start talking surgeries. Glad to see he's on his way home and seeing his own Dr. I wonder if that will be enough to get him to quit smoking? I know my DW still hasn't quit and I don't know what more to try.

Mary I know what you mean about putting 2 weeks worth of weight back on in 1 week but I've put 2 MONTHS worth of weight on in a couple weeks. Might even be longer than 2 months? I know my heart dropped when I saw the weight over 220 so I'm getting a bit more serious, but still not doing as well as I'm capable of, not being hard on myself, just realistic. I give way to the cravings at times which isn't good for me.

I hope we can all get out of this "Funk" that seems to be hanging over our group. It's something I haven't seen from all of us at once?!?!?! Maybe 1 of us, or 2, but almost everyone?

Well, I guess I've whined enough for today...

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Hey '48ers',

Sorry I missed posting yesterday. Guess my streak will be starting over...again! Lost my goal of posting every day of the month. Well August is coming in a week, another shot at that one.

Had to laugh as I read all the posts and I think EVERYONE HAS THE "BLAHS"?!?!?! Nothing like illness, just lacking motivation. I know I've been experiencing a LOT OF THAT LATELY. Yesterday was the perfect example of that. Instead of going to the gym early, kept finding "do nothing " tasks and before I knew it, I'd talked myself out of going. No excuse for that.

Celie, you asked what kind of exercise we do? I do Upper body 1 day then Lower body the 2nd day then Core exercise

Good morning everyone! It's a new day! Yesterday was an enjoyable day but about as lazy as I could be!!! My son and I watched of a full season of a si-fi fantasy tv show on Netflix. We did take little breaks to grab a left over ice cream from a family get-together or do another load of laundry but not a lot else!!! Good thing today is a new day to start fresh!

Just got home from church, good message from God's word!! Now to think my day through......need to make sure I get some exercise in there somewhere. You all take care and have a great day and week. Question: besides walking, what kinds of exercise do you do?

Hi Everyone,
Sorry that I have not been in touch. In looking at some of the posts, I guess I'm in the same place as some of you......motivation gone (for now), trying to deal with the heat. Here it's in the 80s which doesn't sound too bad, except that there's not a breeze anywhere and the humidity is very high. Sleep has been a problem even with the windows open and fans everywhere. I've also heard that we have air quality problems. I've been trying to do a few things in the mornings, but then the afternoons are tough. Oh, and we're having work done on our porch, so we can't sit outside there. Well, that's enough complaining from me. I must go and walk my dog now. We have houseguests coming on Tuesday and we also need to get ready for that. Paper plates will be used!

Bernie, sorry to hear about your brother. At least now you know he is on his way home and will be followed with his doctor.

It's not only you that has no motivation. It seems we are all having the same problem and the only thing we have in common is the crazy weather we all have been having. So I'm with you for blaming it on the weather.

Hope you have a good week this week and I know you can do it. I'm rutting for you.

Sad to say I am not celebrating emoticon . Emotional eating this week. I did manage to stay the same at 176.5 which means I need to lose 2 pounds this week to achieve my goal .

My brother is a construction foreman working on a job in Odessa, TX. He went to ER in Midland, TX not feeling well. The diagnosis went all over the place untilt they transferred him to Lubbock, TX to a heart specialist saying he had a hole in his aorta and they were going to operate this morning. His wife finally made it to Lubbock where the specialist was releasing him giving him meds and telling him to quit smoking. What a contrast in all that he was told over a 3 day period. I am so thankful that he didn't have to have surgery and suspected it would have something to do with his smoking Now he will go through getting all the records and going to specialist where he lives in Oklahoma City. Having 4 other siblings all trying to be aware of what is going on and some living closer going there as well has kept us on pins and needles with our concern for him. We know how important it is to have someone with you at the hospital when you are going through testing and feeling so badly. .Well.. enough said. He will be traveling home soon.

I hope it is just the heat that is getting me down as I have NO motivation. I am just doing what I have to do each day without any drive to achieve anything more. Those of you that are still working I admire you!

Here's to a better weigh in for most of us this coming Friday!

Hello everyone! My scale says 183.5 for a second week. Back to writing everything down and wearing the fitbit all the time. During school I can easily hit 10,000+ steps, but now its pushing to get 6,000.

Our awesome summer weather is leaving us for a bit. Next week the 100s are coming our way :( Stay cool!! Celie in WA

It's Friday '48ers',

Well weigh-in was not even good for me today! It's 221.3#'s, that up almost 3 #'s from last week and I've GOT to make changes and stop just talking about it.

Welcome to PAPASNAPDRAGON1 ! Hope to see you post often, good to have another man on the board. At times these girls can be keep me baffled, as most ladies have the knack to do. Or is it just me? All the ladies are now shaking their heads "Yup, it's you...". Anyway, glad you're here.

Hope everyone is doing well, will check back in later...

Good Afternoon '48ers',

Mary, sounds like you're coming down with something? Hope you're doing O.K. How's the outcome of your little spill the other day? Or is this from that incident? Just take care of yourself. Like you I'm not looking forward to our weigh-in tomorrow, as like you I'm still going the wrong way. According to my wife, that's normal. Hmm, I always seem to get her to where she wants to go, even when she's "side-seat driving". She does that A LOT!

Margaret, glad I can bring a smile and a laugh to anyone. Makes me feel good.
So you mow the lawn huh? That is one job I HATE. So I have a gardener to do it. I should probably be doing it, but ever since I was about 10 years old, I hated it. And my mother, rest her soul, was so critical of the job I did. I swear she'd go around the yard and point out places it didn't look like I mowed. So as soon as I was earning enough money I hired a gardener. Then she could complain to him about the work. Funny, she never did. Of course he had a power mower, ours was the old push kind and it was terrible.

It's gotten hotter here than usual and it's going to keep up. News says there's a "Heat Dome" over the U.S. Don't know about that, just know that it's miserable out here. Not looking forward to the next electric bill either.

Saying Hello to all of you out there and hoping to see lots of new posts tomorrow. Don't forget it's "WEIGH IN FRIDAY" kids. Well, enough of my jabbering, I'm off...

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Sorry about being away from the board. Not feeling up to par but haven't had the. Luxury to stop for long which is probably not the best way to handle it anyway. So off to work this morning. Not looking forward to the scale tomorrow as it has been going up.

Hi everyone.

Dwayne, I get up early and usually check my Sparks page and emails first off. Then you make me laugh nearly every post you post. This morning I was just seeing you trying to sneak around and make sure your wife didn't see what you wrote on your post. Honestly you and your wife sound very much like my hubby and myself. You sound like a jokester. I love reading your posts please keep them coming.

Today we aren't walking but I plan to get in the exercise with mowing the lawn and grocery shopping. We are in for another hot one so I'll do the grass first thing.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Hey '48ers',

Linda, so glad to hear the news from your Dr. Who says prayer doesn't work. Know that I'll continue to pray for you until this is resolved and you're free of this "hiccup" as Margaret calls it. I think of it as just a "speed bump" in life.

And Margaret, what we wouldn't give for some of the cool weather. Every day here for the next week shows high 90's - low 100's. That is warm and poor AZ Caroline has got to be miserable. Probably 105+ every day where she lives and as one of my gym friends calls it "stupid heat". Kind of says it all.

Well, today hasn't been my most productive yet so I'm going to start on the "Honey Do" stuff since I don't want to upset the "Queen" as she wants to be known as. I tell her "you may be 'Queen' but I'm the 'King' and that's the end of that...if it's O.K. with you Honey..." Yup, told her...thank God she can't get into my Spark page...

Well I'm off for now...
Til next time,

Hi everyone.

Linda, glad you found out what the problem was and that they are going to keep a closer check on you. Just think of it as a hiccup to getting healthier. Keep positive and eat plenty of fresh veggies and fruit. They say it helps.

Agnes, your going to be so happy to come back home the weather is cooler here.

Bernie the sewing went well I was surprised. My grand daughter is 24 years old. But she thought she new everything . It was funny to watch her. She made a cushion and repaired her jeans that she had 3 wholes in them. She said she would be back for more lessons I'll let you know when. LOL

Dwayne, I agree with you. this weather is not helping is at all. One day I can't breath because it's to hot all I want to do is sit in the cool house. The next day it's cooler outside that the chills set in and I stay in the warmth. Go figure. All I know is this week has not been good for me.

Mary I hope your not to stiff from your fall. Please let us know how you are doing.

Hugs everyone.

Hi, thank you for all your prayers and good wishes. They did help. My dr does not want to put me on chemo right now cause I am feeling good and why make me sick. The cancer cells are growing but very slowly. Will be checked again in three months. I am happy to carry on this way for the time being. So thankful for all you wonderful spark friends.

Hi '48ers',

1st off and most important, Linda know you'll be in my prayers and I know you're going to come through this. I believe in you and your strength that you've shown to all of us here. When do you hear about the results? I'll say this but I don't know if it'll do any good; "shut off the brain and relax...". I know it's easier said then done, but try if you can.

Bernie, I know what you mean about being off your game. I've been there the past few weeks as have others from the sounds of their posts. I personally think it's this "Heat Dome" over the country. Withering our poor brains...

Agnes, sounds like you had a good and productive week, but I know you'll be glad to be back home.

Margaret, giving the GD sewing lessons is so great. I'm sure she'll love those moments and it's going to be memories she'll cherish all her life.

As for me, it's been an O.K. day. Still working on getting out of this "funk" and I'm going to do it, someway, somehow...

Well, I'll be off for tonight,
Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Just reading the posts and so sad to hear your news, Linda. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. As well for your Mary. Those types of falls can hurt for a long time.

Dwayne and Margaret, I've been off my game for a couple of weeks. No motivation to get what I need done during the day. Just down in the dumps with the news and some family issues. I'm praying for the feelings to pass and know they will. Praying for our country as well.

Both my grandsons are coming today so I need to put on a happy face and get ready to enjoy them and all their energy. Some of their words of wisdom can always make me laugh.

Margaret, how old is your GD that you are teaching to sew? I bought my two a sewing machine last year and was shocked at how quickly they picked it up and in my 2 week visit they made capri pants, a couple of dresses, a stuffed bear and one made her first quilt top out of 2 1/2" squares. It was great. They were 8 and 10. Of course, the machine hasn't been touched since I left so hope to get them interested again when I visit them in August.

Agnes, I don't do well in the heat any more either so I admire your fortitude in going on the hot walk.

Best get to going to get ready for the kiddos.

Wishing all a good day.
Bernie

Hi Everyone,

Yes, I'm still in D.C.---heading back to Maine and home tomorrow. It's been a busy time. The work part was tiring, but it is over now. I've been visiting with my daughter and some friends of mine since Saturday and we've been on the move. Went to Rock Creek Park for walking (slow for me because it's in the 90s here and I don't do well in the heat, but who does?).

Mary, hope you are doing ok from your fall. Sounds like it was a bad one, and I do hope that you recover quickly.

Linda, you are in my thoughts. It's good that your daughter is with you. Margaret is right, we will have you in our thoughts all day, and it is good that if they have found something you will know what it is and what needs to be done.

Dwayne, those rotten days will happen now and then. Just need to keep plugging away at our goals and not be too hard on ourselves when things don't work out.

For me today, I'm planning to have lunch with a friend. I'll need to take the metro/subway there and that may be all the walking I do today because it's going to be another hot one.

Take care,
Agnes

Hi everybody,

Mary,so sorry to hear that you fell. It must have hurt you . I hope your feeling better today and not to much brusing.

Linda, my prayers are with you. What ever they have found at lease they have caught it in the butt and can deal with it right away. Keep your chin up and let us know when you can. Just remember we will have you in our thoughts all day.

Dwayne, yesterday was a rotten day for me as well. I was useless all day. I just couldn't get going doing anything and I was back in bed at 8 last night. Thank goodness I slept right threw till 5 this morning. Feeling much better today. Hope you do as well.

I'm going to give my grand daughter sewing lessons today. She phoned yesterday to see if I had a sewing machine I could give her as she felt like she wanted to learn how to do it . I told her I would show her before she went out to by a machine because they don't give the machines away . So we will start this morning. Wish me luck I'm going to need it. LOL

Hope you all have a beautiful day.

Hugs Margaret

Hi. Just up waiting to head off to bed for another sleepless night. Will be happy to finally get all the info on how my tests were. I have heard that it is not good news. Will have to deal with whatever happens.
Mary, sorry to hear about your fall. Sure hope you are okay from that fall. Guess you will find out tomorrow. Sounds painful to me.
I am happy to have my dear daughter to be with me. Will check in tomorrow.
Cheers, Linda

Evening '48ers',

Going to be a bit short tonight. Nothing's wrong, just kind of late and trying to do a few things at once, and for me that never turns out well.

Had one of those starts this AM, just didn't want to do ANYTHING! I putzed' around for a bit then finally hit the gym and did some shopping for DW. No word from the Surgeon yet.

Mary, you've got to be more careful young lady! If that fall had happened to me I think DW would have said "Well, maybe that will knock some sense into you." Since I always seem to put myself in a position to do a "less than wise thing." I just pray you're O.K. We seem to downplay our mishaps, guess our egos get in the way eh? I know mine does...

Well, with that I'm off. Missing see posts from all the other '48ers' but maybe tomorrow...

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne

Good Evening all! My first day back to work with my little patient but it off payroll as I have not been officially discharged by MD to go back to work. Actually doing 4 days this week as such as a favor to his mom who had a fabulous offer to go to the Bahamas all expenses paid & I told her I would do it. The day of my grandson's wedding a few weeks ago when my BIL had his heart attack & my sister couldn't finish the cake, it was her that saved the day so I told her I'm doing "CAKE HOURS" LOL

Hardest part (literally) of today was taking a fall on the concrete floor, falling on my back/right hip, & hitting my head so I'm really sore tonight with hip pain & a horrible headache. But nothing broken, thank God.

Dwayne, you are right...we're hanging in there....together... till the end because it matters & I'm so thankful for our little group of 48er's.

Hi everyone. A beautiful day here again. We had our monthly breakfast meeting for our motorcycle club. We had a good turnout . The next one will be our BBQ corn roast in August the 13th. My hubby will be busy on the 30th of July with the club as there is another place to go to show off your motorcycle. LOL We have a lot of fun with everyone.

I think the best smell of laundry on the line is in the winter. You hang out your things , they freeze and then they unthaw. By the time you get them in the house some are still standing up in the corner but the smell is great. LOL I don't do that as much these days. The dryer calls to me instead.

Hope your all having a great day.

Hugs Margaret

Hello '48ers',

Well, the "Phantom Of Cyberspace" strikes again. Had a long "chatty" post all typed out, hit "post message" and got reply "Sorry No HTML". Whahappened?!?!?!

Had posted about clothesline memories and what we had at our home when I was a wee bit younger...My Mom had bought the home from my Grandfather and he'd put in concrete posts with metal T bars and eyehooks with lines strung between. They were about 30' apart as I recall; of course, your memory after 50+ years isn't all that accurate. I just remember Mom hanging clothes out and how they smelled when they were brought in. Now it's all dryers and fabric "fresheners". Guess that's the sacrifice for convenience eh?

Mary, you are right, so often we wonder "why try, I'm not making any progress" but that's where our group keeps us all moving forward REGARDLESS of past results. I know you're all there for me and giving me that occassional kick in the A** I often need. And I'm so grateful for that. So often we feel like the days turn into weeks which turn into months, then we quit. I won't do that and I know none of you will either...or I'll be coming for you; and it won't be pretty...LOL!

Margaret, I'd added the word "dishy" as a synonm for chatty (had to look that one up I must admit) and thanks for worrying about me, but again, I was just "off my feed" for a few days, but I'm back.

Well, I've got to run youngest son to an appt. he has and wait, so I'll read, then I can make the gym. No misses, fingers crossed, this week.

Til next time,
Carpe Diem,
Dwayne
