Pat, I think Jo will have to take private off so you both can get in. I have no idea how this technical stuff works but I do know it's aggravating! I will keep checking in with you until you are able to get over into the team. I'm sorry you've had such difficulty but please hang in there until we can get you there.

Another hot sticky day ahead for us. Thunderstorms rolled in again last night along with a tornado sighting. The power went out at the dental office when we were on our last patient so he only got a half cleaning and no exam from the doctor. Our parking lot is lined with Bradford pear trees and they definitely got damaged. I really expected that the giant tree across the street from us would be affected--it's tall enough to fall across the street and well into my living room--but so far, so good. When I got home, one of my friends in the Stitchers had posted that the tree that her deck "surrounds" had cracked and crashed through her upstairs window so the board-up people were out there and the insurance adjusters, standing in the torrent of rain. The weather has been just a little too exciting. But, no trees in my house and Julie got home from night classes (26 miles away) in one piece so I'm grateful.
The weight I gained over my birthday week is still sitting stubbornly on my body so I hope to get in some mild exercise (leg is still goofy) and maybe get the metabolism kick-started again.
Drink your water ladies, and I'll check in later,
DB

Deb, I use the "Famous Fudge" recipe from Carnation (on the internet). I buy cherry Pop Rocks from Dollar Tree stores, and after the fudge has set a bit I press the candy on the top. I used to mold the fudge in stars, but then you have to use thin icing to hold the Pop Rocks on the top, if they get too wet they start to pop and fizz and you want the red crystalline look for the effect. Of all the flavors they come in, cherry is the most compatible with chocolate.

I guess the storms back home caused quite a bit of damage. Not sure how our house faired.
DB I want your recipe for pop rock brownies! We have a 4th of July party every year what a fantastic idea!
Its been fairly nice for weather here in Minnesota. Had a small shower but otherwise ok.
This is our last night here, we are having grilled walleye, baked potato and tossed salad. Love the walleye here. The gambling has been pretty good. after losing 150. yesterday, I have made a great comeback today. Up 20. right now.

Coreen, with diesel prices hovering close to $4 a gallon and east coast campground fees ranging from $50-$130 a night, RV travel has become just to expensive in this economy. We use to go to Myrtle Beach for two weeks every year over Thanksgiving but the RV resort we love so much has priced themselves out of our pocketbook. We use to be able to get a site with its own hot tub but once everybody else found this gem of a campground, prices soared and now it's hard to get reservations. Hubby and I have camped through thirty seven states and several Canadian provinces, maybe it's time to sell our RV. If anyone's interested, we have a 2007 36' Holiday Rambler Presidential travel trailer with two slides.

Pat we put the porch on the front of the house a couple of years ago. We just sit out there and rock and wave to everyone as they go by. Our house is next to the golf course so we see almost everyone in town. :)
DB-is your husband waiting to find out about Nebraska or did I miss that? Your busy goings on prove what I said about being more busy with a day off than I am on a work day!

Jo-I bet a nice backyard retreat would be so nice with your grandchildren too! My little ones try and make me swing but I'm afraid I might break through the seat one day.

Lynn-I plan on selling my fifth wheel next year. My son and family from Dayton, Ohio are coming in a couple of weeks and they love taking it and all the boats, wave runners etc to the lake. So, when I sell it I am getting a bigger one. We have only a 28 footer because when I bought it my husband was very unsure about pulling it and a boat. He just didn't like to have all that length to pull but now he is an old pro. The second time we pulled it a boat trailer tire blew and we drug it that way for a couple of miles until he noticed smoke. I thought for sure that would be the end of that but he braved it again!

Jo, we have been working on getting the contractor to start the job since the beginning of May and have been put off until next week. I will be glad when it is done, because sitting out front is nice. Much more activity than in the back yard where we already have 2 decks.

Lynn, well said! I am probably the least stressed person in my family and I think that is why everyone comes to me with their problems.

DB, very busy for sure. It's going to be warm here too, but the severe storms should hold off until Tuesday. After Wednesday it should cool down to the low 80's for the holiday weekend. Should be quite comfortable for the annual 4th of July parade and fireworks.

I did make it to zumba today while the rest of the family went to the waterpark. I'm sure they are going to have a great time, but I did not want to be on my feet most of the day and will save my trip to the water park for a day in the low 80's instead of the low 90's like today.

Pat

Humid here (85*) and more rain expected, too. It has been coming down in buckets lately. I only got part of the plants I bought in the ground. Violet came over and grandkids first, plants second as far as I'm concerned. It was a double grandparent day for her, our house first, then off to the other grandparents (we both live in the same part of town). Anne got a new set of pots and pans (an award from work) and brought over a box of hers to donate to whichever of Julie's friends is moving out and needs them. I had a bag of queen sheet sets that I was donating to Amvets (because I'm replacing all mine with the indestructible Costco sheets) and Anne said she could use those. So, same amount of junk in the house, overall, just different junk. Hopefully the box of pots and pans goes quickly to somebody starting out. I'm still trying to stick with the 30 bags in 30 days thing, so we'll see what I get rid of today. Today I'm going to the bank, making potato salad, coloring my hair, trying to get some more plants in before the rain, a couple of loads of laundry (always!), going to the chiro, and then on to work for tonight. DH and I had burgers on the grill last night with corn on the cob and fresh fruit salad. He's taking the leftover burgers and corn, and I'm taking the leftover fruit salad to pick at while I'm at work. He and I were talking about what I would make for the 4th of July party we're going to. Time to make the fudge with the Pop Rocks (so it feels like fireworks in your mouth) and maybe the red, white and blue potato salad. I can only have a little bit because it's so rich, but it makes my hubby's day when we have it. We hit Michael's (the craft store) again last night so he could get some spray adhesive and I could get more yarn for an afghan I'm making as a wedding gift. After his success with making and decorating a castle for Violet, he's hard at work on a barn and he needs the adhesive to make the hay stick to the loft floor and to make some hay bales with. I'm glad he's branched into this little hobby--it keeps him out of my hair and gives me more excuses to hit the craft stores with him.
I'm out the door!

☀️Good Morning!

Jo, it is funny but the thing is - we get to that point only with age. Life's experiences season us well and we learn through these experiences that not everything in life works out as we planned. I've learned we can't please everyone and be happy ourselves. To a point we can't worry what others think of us and really the only thing we can control is how we think and feel about any given situation. We simply can't fully understand or know these things in our youth - again, experiences teach us this. So, to all of this I say, relax and enjoy the "golden ride" and be thankful for the many blessings in your life.❤️

The rain held out and I got to go to the pool with the grands and daughter. We always run in to friends and neighbors, so it's always a good time. The contractor called about our front porch this evening. He will be starting on the 8th or 9th. I'll be happy when it is done. Everyone have a great week!

I think hubby and I have become way to comfortable with kicking back and enjoying a quiet life. We were just talking about all the things we've done throughout our forty one years of marriage. Old age has settled into our old bones and when we think about doing something we look at each and say "nah". We've enjoyed boating, camping in a pop-up to RV travel to owning a pool. All of which we were most fortunate to do back when we were younger. Even now, the RV sits under the RV port looking nice but we don't go anywhere. We would probably put a for sale sign on it if the economy was better. The desire for travel is no longer there. It's sort of sad when we think back on all we use to do.

I can remember the times when my mother would tell me that the things I stressed about or fussed over would seem so trivial as I aged. I thought to myself, she doesn't know me very well, lol. Guess what, she was right!

By outdoors I meant I use to do hiking in the mountains, skiing - downhill, cross-country and water. I still inner-tube behind the boat with the grand kids though. I can drive a mean wave runner too! :) I have the most serene retreat in my backyard that my dogs, grand kids and I love to spend hours in there. I have tried to take pictures of it to show how wonderful it is but it just doesn't come out right. I use to have a water feature in it for the sound of rippling water but the darn thing had be cleaned and watched to much. So, out it came! :)

Jo-i can see where you would feel that! i was in a very minor car accident where i broke a bone (I wasn't driving) and I had a panic attack every time I got into a car for about 6 months.

DB-during the school year I get so excited for a day off but I find I have to do a lot of work to get ready for the next week. lol During the summer they are all just one big old week end!

Deb- I think everyone is getting the rainy weather aren't we? hope you have a good time. Usually Minnesota gets our weather a couple days later and we have been rainy and cool last couple of days.

More rain! In for some severe storms today and tonight. Also more tomorrow. We are heading to Minnesota again for 2 days. Maybe it will be nicer up there!

Pat, I do enjoy sitting out on my deck and front porch but the brightness of the sun and the glare even with sunglasses has me back inside in short order. When I'm out driving or riding in the car I wear two pairs of sunglasses. In the house I must tilt my blinds up to keep the glare out of the house. That's the hardest part because I love the light to flood the house.

Jo, it saddens me to read how life feels unsettled for you right now. I can promise you that the uncertainty of it all will lessen with time.❤️

hello ladies

Lynn I think you have a very satisfying life .. what if you choose to be a homebody or not I know you love life ---that is what is important. Enjoy your Sunday today.

DB-- fun times with the stitchers so glad you found this group!!

Coreen I am a little cautious of exercise -- what I eat --- and driving ... Lynn --poor Lynn could not drive for 7 months I only had to stay away for 4 weeks -- but I notice I am a little panic when I get behind the wheel .. I am hoping this all will pass as time goes on.. plus when I get a pain or a tightness I think oh my--- and my heart starts thumping hard ... but again I think as time goes on it will all pass..

well ladies I am going to a store --lol I was given a gift certificate to this store so going to check it out...

chat later ---everyone remember to drink your water .

Lynn and Coreen, I still love the outdoors and find it relaxing and enjoyable to sit out on the front porch in the evening. Because of that we will be having a new porch put in in the next couple of weeks.

Bikerman, I might be stuck indoors today too. Yesterday even with only a 10% to 30% chance of rain, it rained wherever I went with a higher percentage for today.

DB, I am happy that you will be able to get some fun time with the kids and time off from work.

Jo, wishing you a great Sunday.

Everybody have a blessed Sunday. I'm looking forward to the Fourth of July (no work at the office Thursday or Saturday, yippee!) and spending some time with friends and their grands. Also, holiday weekend or no, nothing stops the Stitchers from getting together.

Lynn-I loved your riding lawn mower lesson. It gave me my laugh for the day! emoticon I use to love the outdoors too! (hello I live in Montana :) but my knees give me such fits. Also, as I have probably said before once I am home from teaching all day I have let my social life go too Lynn. I just don't want to think about one more thing! I do things with my fellow teachers. As, a teacher though they are several different age groups mostly young ones now. I can see where once I retire what we have in common will come to an end. As I lecture them about not taking out any money from teacher retirement because it comes sooner than you think!! Their eyes glaze over. I still do it though. lol

Redgirl-I take a probiotic everyday too. But, I was wondering if anyone else has had this. I have had two fungus infections on my toenails since. I never ever had problems with athletes feet etc. before in my life.

Pat- don't you find pushing the mower good exercise too?
Jo-I never thought a heart valve replacement would change who you are. I just thought you would have it done and probably be better than before!

☀️Good Morning - a cool 63.

Redgirl - I have taken a probiotic before when I was on antibiotic that could mess with your system in that way. I wondered about taking it again, I'll look into that.

Pat, I don't think we have ever mowed our yard with anything other than a rider. It would take nearly all day to get the job done if we pushed. That being said, hubby does push mow the part of the back yard that is fenced in for Sophie but only because the rider won't fit through the gate.

I use to be such an outdoorsy person but now if I never go out again I wouldn't miss it a bit. I think it started after my life threatening illness back in 1996 but then when my eyes started giving me trouble back in 2010 and I couldn't bear the brightness I became more and more comfortable being indoors. I found enough things to do inside and basically shut the outside world out. When you can't drive for seven months because you're legally blind and then you're given the ok to drive again, it's just not the same. There is a lot of apprehension and fear that the judgment is not there. I do drive occasionally in my county but to go "across the river", that I don't do. The traffic is to intense for me to drive in. Please don't be sad for me, I have a very good and happy life. You must make it what it is with what you have.😊

To reply to the constipation issue:

I eat a diet very high in fiber and I drink lots of water. I still struggle with constipation. I am on medication that gives most people the trots but it has the opposite affect on me. I have found that taking a chewable probiotic is helpful. Taking one tablet with each meal has given me some success. You may want to try this.

Keep on moving....

Coreen, I do think I'm not getting enough fat in my diet. I didn't think it was low but I guess it actually is - below 25% of my calories. Spark recommends 30%. Also, I will eat a Laughing Cow light baby bel cheese for a snack occasionally.

I use to mow our 1.11 acres until hubby got one of those zero turn riding mowers that has the two steering handles. He tried to teach me how to use it but I ran into one of the metal post on the RV carport - end of lesson and end of mowing😊. Um, no I didn't do it on purpose.

DB you can have a cup of tea before bed and not have to use the bathroom during the night?? I am so jealous! I have to quit the drinking by 7! I agree with Jo about not needing an unreliable (actually in considerate) parent to deal with.

It sounds like you're enjoying the dentist visits about as much as I am Deb! At least they aren't trying to take any of your teeth!

Do you think it is your diet that is causing your constipation Lynn?

Marsha i use to mow our lawn with a push mower ( we mow an acre) and I loved the exercise I got doing it! I love the look of a newly mowed yard.
We are having ver cool weather here.

Lynn, I don't usually run into THAT problem, but a raw carrot (the whole thing) and a cup of hot tea before bed at night will give me that "get up and go" feeling in the morning without that drained feeling you can get from chemical stimulants. That combination should be compatible with your current diet requirements, too.
Hope this helps,
DB

emoticon Cleaning Day! All Done!

Things are going a bit more smoothly today, thankfully. I'm going to try and up my fat a little bit and see if that makes any difference, if not, maybe a daily dose of something very mild.

Pat, your weather must be headed our way. We are suppose to be in the low 80's today but warming up significantly for the upcoming week.

Hubby mowed, weed whacked, edged/trimmed and swept it all away with his blower. We are surely spiffed up now!🍃

Lynn hope you are doing better today.

Deb -- about the grinding of teeth -- hygienist told me the same thing --- they fit you with a dental mouth guard to wear at night so you can not grind your teeth....expensive ..
sorry about you having to be on an insulin pump.. please do take care ..

humidity here too Carol -- we all need to drink that water ..

Hello All, time just seems to get away from me. Buit had some nice reading tonight catching up with all the news.
We have had so much rain here and its flooding. Roads closed in several locations due to water over the road.
Jeff's knee surgery got pushed back a week so now it won't be till August.
Since he already asked for time off and the schedule is posted he is just going to enjoy his week off before surgery. We have been talking about going to Wisconsin and visiting our daughter that week.
I went to the dentist today, he gave me some amoxicillian and then I have to go back in a week. He thinks that I may be grinding my teeth and this is what is causing me pain. Sure hope he's wrong cause I just don't know how I would be able to stop that.
Pat: Diabetes is no fun. I've had it for 20 yrs. now. Dieting makes it so hard to keep my sugars up enough that I'm not shaking. I do get a few low blood sugar episodes and I do not like them! But I am on an insulin pump so I have to pay attention.
It sounds like your doctor is going to get you under control!
Well its getting late hope everyone has sweet dreams!

Deb

I worked in a hospital before i got my teaching degree and sometimes people would come in really constipated. This is what the doctors would recommend. They gave them miralax but they said sometimes it gets stuck in a little p trap thing at the end of the colon and it needs a little boost out first. So, they would have us give them a fleet glycerin suppository to loosen it up. Just a little suggestion if you are still needing help.

Lynn, that sounds like the perfect portable for me at the dental office. I need something that will sustain without being too messy to eat, and can be eaten in small increments (in case someone comes in). It sounds like something I could eat part of, and then return to, without it creating too much of a mess.
The additional nanny job never came through. Two days after we were supposed to meet for the interview I got a text generated at 1:06 AM that said, "Oh, I guess I forgot to text you." Nothing more, no call at home on the landline either. I can't IMAGINE why she's having a tough time finding qualified care for her children, she'd be so reliable to work for. I feel sorry for the kids, but I don't need that kind of a mess. I'm glad I'll be back with Gavin's folks by mid-August. And it looks like I may be able to pick up an additional day with them, too, because the Grandma says she's not up to watching 2 (?!!) I'm one of 7 kids so this has me scratching my head, how DID people do it in the "olden" days? I'm glad to snuggle up to my little Gavin again and get better acquainted with his little brother, and of course--more belly rubbins for Moose the dog.
I DID get my flowers today but haven't put them in yet. I brought home lunch for Mr. Bunny and myself. And then he talked me into taking a nap. And I guess the traction I had for my back really knocked me out. So, nap achieved, I'm up and at 'em again. I want to make some chili, maybe a pie, and get SOME of the plants put in (it should be cooler after the dinner hour tonight). DH is off to work and I can arrange the rest of the hours to suit me. I just have to be at work at the dental office by 7:30 tomorrow morning because we seat our first patient at 8 AM. And then off to a mini-Stitchers meeting--my yarn and needles can hardly wait.
Hugs to all,
DirtyBunny

I miss Sue, too. I'll bet she and Marsha would have really hit it off together.

I tried a new product today. The Oscar Mayer P3 snack pack. P3 - portable protein pack is a pack with chicken, turkey or ham cubes, reduced fat cheese cubes and either almonds or peanuts. I tried the applewood smoked turkey breast with marbled Colby and Monterey Jack cheese and dry roasted almonds.

Calories - 170
Total Fat - 11 g
Sat Fat - 3.5 g
Trans Fat - 0
Carbs - 3 g
Fiber - 1 g
Sugar - 0 g
Protein - 13 g

I would recommend them, tasty and just enough for a pop of protein.👍

hi ladies

Lynn I have that problem you are having -- I eat bran buds on cereal in the morning along with a prune in my cereal --- it does not always work .. I think I have this problem because of the medication I take ---maybe this is your case..sorry if it is.

Coreen I think it is just awesome your GD got to go to acting camp and will be putting on a play for you all --- it thrills me -- hoping my GS will take up the call..
if not him then Amelia ..
Enjoy that play!

DB sure hope the doc visit will help you along the way...maybe time to ask you FD... and see if some therapy will help .. sorry for you pain and discomfort.

Busy day with kids .. tomorrow daddy is home so that will be good.

off to spin in

Coreen, what a cute name! I hear you about our little ones aging. It's hard to believe Sophie will be twelve. She's very active and fortunately has no health issues.

I use to chat with Sue through emails but haven't heard a word in well over a year. I know her younger daughter was having her first baby and she is very involved in both of her daughters lives. Probably staying busy loving on those grandchildren.

Lynn-My little one is Skippy John Jones. My 3 yr gr always asks is he named after grandpa? My husband is not a great dog lover and he gets very indignant at the very thought! lol I always get sad at the thought of my dogs having such a short life span so I try and not think about it.
Well, this is the last day of acting school for my gd and the big day of putting the play on has arrived! I know this is so exciting to all of you just like it is for me lol!
DB-we use to just to go to the wonderful Omaha zoo when my mil was alive but that is about I all know of Omaha. My husband i think is more knowledgeable though. i have been to literally zoos around the world and Omaha is certainly one of the best.
My little gd was using the restroom when one of her friends came in and started talking to her and saying hi. She refused to say a word. Asked her why? Did she not like her anymore. She said no she was her best friend but my gd said she could only do one thing at a time! emoticon
Anyone hear from Sue lately? She use to be such a great poster.

Ok ladies, important question: what should a person😰take to help with the dreaded constipation? My mom suggested warm prune juice so I drank 4 oz but not warm. OMG, that is the nastiest thing I have ever drank! I like prunes but they are not helping. I don't want anything harsh so I bought some Miralax and took a dose of that. Hoping for success. I'm sure it comes from not eating enough fat in my diet.

Any suggestions?

Lynn, whatever you call her, I'm sure she answers to it.

DB, good luck at the chiro, hopefully they can get the hip and knee to the way you need it. You are such a busy bunny.

Morning all! I'm off to the chiro today. My leg is getting a better range of motion, but now my hip pops every time I stand up and I still have that feeling like the knee is going to give out. If the day stays nice I should be able to get some planting done today (hello, red white and blue petunias!)
I'll bet Lynn's dog hears "Sophie Marie!" when she's been a naughty little dog, LOL. We all tack on our children's middle name when we mean business.
Hugs,
DB
