You should read the article about this weight loss journey being an experiment for one. You are unique, there is not another person in the world that is exactly like you. As such, your ability to gain or lose weight will be unique to you. This site can give recommendations for the average person's ability to lose weight, but maybe you are not average. I know that I am not. I am less than 5 feet tall, so nowhere near average. The BMI charts are more accurate for people 5 feet and over. This site also put in caveats for people over 50. Point is, what works for one person, might not work for you. You can try other people's recommendations, but just be aware, they might not work for you. Keep trying and keep getting recommendations until you find out what works for you. I bought a kitchen scale and extra measuring cups and spoons. That helped me get accurate measurements. Eating less processed foods helps me. Following the macronutrient info seems to work for me. I've been using this site since 2009, so some of us are slower than others. Good luck figuring out what works for you.

Probably shouldn't, but I weigh myself a few times a week.

I am kind of a bad girl - LOL - I weigh in EVERY morning! LOL - I know it sounds strange, and they say to weigh in once a week, but it helps me to keep on track by weighing in every morning....I can't even think about stepping on the scale at the end of the week and think "OMG!" either how did I gain 5 pounds or yeah I lost 5 pounds (hopefully the losing one), but by weighing in every morning - I know exactly where I am...gives me confidence I guess to keep going....but I don't know how weighing in every morning and still gain 25 pounds seems like nothing was working...I needed to figure it out. And I don't measure - exactly - I go by how my clothes fit - hahahaha - I have a strange way of losing weight but it works for me. I know I can do it, I did it before. You can too! It feels so good to buy that one size less every time. I went from a size 14 to a size 4 - I am in a 6 now but they are getting a bit snug and I REFUSE to buy another size up - that is how I got into trouble the last time...I kept saying "not one more size bigger" this time I mean it. GOOD LUCK TO YOU - Keep up the great work...and don't forget the Plateaus - they are the worst feeling - but it only last a few days or a week - just change up and add a bit more protein to kick start your metabolism, then cut back a bit again....it does work! It's also so hard that eating healthy is so much more expensive! LOL -

I know when I started losing weight after my heart attack at age 48 (2010) the dr told me I needed to lose 30 pounds, I chose to lose 50 and I did. I walked twice a day about 2 miles each trip, but mostly i really changed the way I ate. I ate more protein and I really made sure I ate small meals every 2 hours - it really makes a difference. My snacks included almonds, grapes, vegetables in between meals - the almonds helped fill me up - but be careful...although almonds are very good for you, they can be tricky and make you gain weight - the amount of almonds to eat on a snack should be the size of a post it - the square kind, not the rectangle kind, at a time. And even though I am eating "non processed sugars" like grapes, still too much of natural sugars can be a trap also. Eat only about a cup of grapes or 1 apple. Even though my mind kept saying "every 2 hours really? but that is too much food" I really saw the pounds melt away. And DON'T skip meals! But when I turned 50 I started noticing weight gain again...alas - menopause, and I noticed I was skipping meals because I was busy at work - wow did the pounds come back fast! took me 7 months to lose the 50 pounds but only about 2 months to put it back on - NOT FAIR! - so now I am up 25 pounds and am back on track to losing it again. Good luck to you! You can do it - but slower weight loss it better and healthier for you! And don't forget if you are weight training too, as they say muscle weighs more....to get rid of the "flabby under arm jiggle" try using resistance bands that hang over the door - I have mine from rehab from shoulder surgery - I don't quite have "20 year old" arms, but they are better than they were. :-)

I don't think there's a specific answer. It's a mix of clean eating with exercise, especially for us over 50. You'll have to really take a look at your food. Are you getting enough protein? Too much fat? I know I really had to take a good look at everything. Once I did, the weight started to come off. Don't give up!!

Hi all!! I have been using this site since June 18 2013 and I LOVE it!! I need some advice on what I am doing wrong? I started off with doing my treadmill for 30 min. 5 days a week along with abdominal and thigh work on M,W,F; on Tues and Thursday I do a full body strength training for about 30 minutes on my universal gym. The inches and weight do not seem to be dropping as fast as this site states? Every 3 months I increase my exercise regimen. Since Sept 20 2013, I have dropped my work outs on Tuesday and Thurs to doing my Jane Fonda step aerobics tape for 1 hr. I also have increased my reps on my universal gym from 2 sets of 12 to 2 sets of 15. I eat healthy everyday even on the weekends!! Why am I not noticing much of a difference? How do I lose the flab on my arms and around my belly?

Thank you!!! HELP!!
