I've been told a recumbent bike is less stressful to the knees.

My solution is to alternate walking with other exercises such as lifting weights & then go back to walking. Or you can do cardio with your arms & then go back to walking. I have very little cartilage in my knees, so I have to do this. Another idea is to get an exercise bike which doesn't put so much stress on the knees. I use orthotics in my shoes also. I hope these ideas help.

Yo Sparkies! I've tried a few indoor walking DVD's but find my knees ache badly afterwards. I am wearing good walking sneakers and my floor is carpeted, so I think my feet are being protected. I want to keep the DVD's as a back up for when the weather is bad, but I'm not sure what to do about this. Anyone else get past this?
