Wow, you have done a wonderful job on your weight loss. Congratulations! I cannot take hormone replacement therapies due to a rare blood problem that hormone replacement therapies makes worse. I am taking Lexapro and so since I began taking it at full dose of 10mg, the hot flashes and sweats have decreased to around 1 or two at night and the same during the day. I was having them constantly both night and day. So I feel blessed in the reduction. I still suffer the exhaustion and the memory loss but I can deal with those easier than those awful hot flashes and night/day sweats. I worry about the summer heat though.

Sorry you are having so many problems. When I was peri-menopause at 45 I started on Prozac and it just made me feel normal and not like I was in a hole in the ground. I took it for 14 yrs. I'm 63 now. I had a hysterectomy at 48 and went on HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) the next day so I never had a Hot Flash or any problems. Keep going.

Thank you Brook. Your message is very inspiring. I walked 3 miles yesterday. The 3rd mile was tough but I did it. I was so happy. I've never made it 3 miles before so I am happy. Tomorrow I will see if I can do three again and if I can I will try for four. I am impressed that you do almost 10 miles a day. I want to work up to five miles a day for 6 days. I haven't walked or done any exercise for a long time so I know I will have to work up to it. I didn't know I might be capable to do more but your post is encouraging. I have never weighed this much even when I was pregnant with my son. I am determined. So, for now I will keep walking until I can build up to 5 miles per day 6 days a week. Right now I am starting at 3 miles ever other day. I have problems with my back, hips and the backs of my ankles. However, I know the excess weight is the cause of all of it. So I will not give up. Once I lose 10 lbs I will add water exercises for fibromyalgia and arthritis. I don't know how long any of this should take but I am determined to stick to it. It does feel good to at least begin with something to make my health improve. Best of luck to you too.

Bless your heart. I felt so bad for you when I read your post - but I hear the determination in your words about getting back into the swing of things. I am in menopause as well and can certainly relate to the hot flashes and some of the health issues - AND the fatigue. There are days that I don't feel like getting out of bed - but like you - I force myself. I also have digestive issues and swelling in my feet and ankles and calves at times. Im fighting fibromyalgia and high blood pressure and am medications for them as well. I am not taking anything for the hot flashes because my Doctor prescribed Premarin and from all the things I've heard, Im not thinking I want to take it.

I am an AVID walker - having walked for over a year and a half now. I started like you - with baby steps and have worked myself up to almost ten miles over the course of a day - everyday. I'm not telling you this to make you feel like you're not accomplishing anything - quite the opposite! I'm telling you this because if I can do this - YOU CAN DO THIS! We all have to start somewhere and just the desire to do it is half the battle! I believe in you and your conviction and know that once you get going you'll go great.

Be positive and just do the best you can and remember that every step you take is a step towards the goal line. You WILL get there!

Stronger every day!

I find my metabolism has slowed down since I have entered menopause. I have no energy. I feel exhausted all the time and those "sweats" make everything difficult. I have had to begin exercising again. I have added 63 lbs beginning with bipolar medications and then with other meds as I began having more illnesses. It's the first time ever I have been overweight.I had my son back in 1992 and lost ever bit of the extra weight. Now with bipolar meds and other meds due to medical illnesses and chronic back pain with osteoporisis and hips both painful and knees and heels in pain, it's been hard to exercise. But now that I am 63 pounds overweight, I have not choice but to do something about it. I have a pacemaker and other problems. I have no choice but to lose weight. I have stared already with my diet. No more of those mail in diet foods. Cost a fortune and the food is barely edible. I just an now doing it the old way. Cutting the amount of food in half and watching what I eat. I have a problem making the meals because I have gastroparesis, the stomach doesn't empty. So I have to go to soft food, no broccoli or cabages and food like that. I cannot have hard fruits. I can have canned fruits that are softened and soaked without their pealings. My whole diet has to change. However, I have to still have to try to get the nutrients. It's very difficult. I have to cut food intake in half. No sweets. I can have puddings and frozen yoguarts instead of ice creams. Lots of liquids. I have to add exercise so I am going to walk 2 miles 3 times a week to begin. I take a med to reduce the hot flashes. It works most of the time. I cannot take any kind of hormone. I am hoping I can do this. I have the desire and I want my health back.
