no point in forcing yourself if you eat correct amount you need it may not matter too much when you eat

Good on the cardio and breakfast. I sure wish I could get back in the habit of breakfast. I have never liked it and don't think I ever will. I have a snack about 9:30 in the morning and then lunch.

Hi, I'm new to this site. Glad to see there are others my age (73) that are having weight problems. In my younger days I did WW and reached my goal, but where I now live there isn't a class near me. I've been doing Sparks for the past 13 1/2 months and have lost 55#. Got a long way to go but I believe it's worth it. I noticed that other people have trouble with plateaus. I found that if I go vegetarian for 3 to 4 days this breaks the chain. emoticon

That would be very scary. I hope you weren't hurt too badly. Inside walking is just as good. Any exercise is good. I am going to vacumn and do a little cleaning today. I am very short of breath and will need to use my oxygen but that is fine. I will go slow and get something done. I hope to walk a little to. It is supposed to warm up and it is sunny, I can handle that. At least it is above 0 this morning.

I like to walk outside in the summer when there is no ice or rain. It has been really icy this year so it has been dangerous walking. I have used the Sit and Be Fit DVD's for streatching exercises and they are very good. I have several of their DVD's.

When I get rid of this neck pain I will try to do the Leslie Sansone again starting next week. Hopefully I will be done with this pain. Welcome to the site and hope you enjoy it. I have COPD and so breathing is an issue for me and that makes exercise hard. I do try and walk as much as possible. I use oxygen so need to use a portable tank when I exercise. We were cold last night again but like you we don't have a lot of snow this year, I am in Minnesota, and I won't complain either. I can stay in when it is really cold. I walk inside but just going around the house and into all the different rooms. It seems to work for me.

Joan, I am currently doing the Spark walkabout challenge and that is keeping me going. I am on day 17 and haven't missed a day yet. I did get my 30 minutes of walking in today and I think tomorrow will be strength training along with the walking. There are days that I am in a lot of pain, like today with spasms in my neck and head, that I don't always work out. I just do what I can. I do read articles on Spark also and I will look for the video. thanks.

Hi Sharon, I'm 72 also and need to start doing more exercise. I like to walk for 30 minutes a day if I can. I live in Northern California now so most days I can do that. If I can't or I don't want to I do a video called Chair Dancing Fitness where you do strength training while sitting on a kitchen chair. One of these might be good for you. Today I have lower back pain so this is going to be my no exercise day. Let me know how you are staying motivated. Every day I read something on Spark People and that helps too. Good luck and stick with it. Joan, Phillygirl

Hi Sharon. The weather is crazy all over but any kind of exercise we can do is good. I like to go out walking but if the weather is bad I walk around the house, go up and down stairs and sometimes do a walking video in doors. We have to do what we can to keep the old bones moving! I'm 72, feel 42 tho. How about you? Have a great day.

I will soon be 70 and need to get moving. Weather is not good here. I do schlep up and down a couple flights of stairs several times per day and do general house stuff. I live in Sicily and it has rained almost every day since before Christmas.

I am 72 and need to exercise more. I have COPD so am limited in what I do. I do walk and am doing the Walkabout challenge right now. I can do most of the exercises that don't involve getting on the floor. I need to lose about 40 pounds and sure would love to have some support. I live in Minnesota.

It's really good to see so many on here over 70.
I'm 76, will be 77 in April. Over the last ten years I've been gaining weight quite rapidly. It's time to stop that. I do walk most days, but I have to change my diet obviously. So, here we go!
This is my first day.

I've gotta do it!

I am almost 74, so definitely fit in this group. I have lost about 85 lbs over the last 12 or 14 months. It was easier than I thought it would be at this age. I have four Labrador Retrievers, who need walks every day, so the exercise part is mostly taken care of. Won't be able to do it in the winter, though, when we have a lot of snow. Guess I'll have to go to the gym.
Haven't been able to get motivated to do the stretching and weight training I should. Only physical excuse I have is bad knees.

Granny627-Glad to see I'm not the only "oldie here.I'm a Mass.girl too born and raised in Wakefield, but lived in Boston, worked there too.I have several challenges. I have been diabetic since 1980,had a stroke in Jan. 2013. I"ma retired widow of a career military pilot ( Coast Guard),so I have lived in San Diego, Alaska, and Cape Cod. I have done WW in all those places. My go to food when dieting has always been greens, since I have to watch carbs. Now I'm on blood thinners ( warfarin),and have ti limit grees, salad, and a bunch of other stuff you wouldn't even expect containe vitamin K.
I just don't know what to eat anymore. I also have to limit salt and fat.I need to loose about 100 lbs. To make matters worse,I have a painful knee that limits exercise. Because of the Warfarin, I am NOT a candidate for replacement. I'm trying to keep my sunny side up, but it's a challenge. Long, cold winters here in Maine do not help!

WEEZERMAC, I see you are on private. I will be 72 in Sept I am also a widow since Feb, 2013 and I also lost my 48 year old son in 07, It is so easy to become depressed and gain weight, that's why I came back to SP. I sold my home and now living in an apartment and I, for the first time in my life am living alone except for my little doggie, don't know how I would have made it without her.

U am 72,and had joined this site awhile ago, but never really go started. I have several problems. I and a stroke 1/12013, so I am on Coumadin for life. This means I must watch /limit foods with Vitamin K. There is a lot in Vit. K which has always been my go to food for weight loss. I also am a diabetic,so I have to watch carbs. Add to this a really bad knee which is hon operable due to the stroke. I am dazed and confused by the whole thing. I was doing WW online, but it's pricey, and I don't like the new program. I'm also trying to eat whole foods that don't have a lot "secret ingredients in them.
I have been widowed for 15 yrs. My oldest son passed about a yrs ago. That, coupled with a LONG,depressing winter in Maine, has made me unmotivated. Spring is finally here-ALMOSt,so I'm trying to get back on the band wagon.
I have been thru Oregon several times while driving to Sitka AK. It's a beautiful state. We were a career Coast Guard family,so Have seen a lot of this beautiful country.

Actually, I think my problem might be the opposite. Before starting this diet I always just ate one meal a day and didn't snack. I was never hungry at breakfast or lunch. So now I'm eating something at those meals (although it's hard for me). Anyway my calorie goal was 1200+ but my usual intake daily has been 700-900 calories and I did log everything. Since my original post about the plateau and after some reading, I started to eat more, not less getting my daily count a little higher. Also I did not exercise at all last week where I had been walking a mile 5 times a week mainly cuz I was depressed and just didn't feel like it.
Stepped on the scale yesterday (not my regular day but mid-week cuz I was curious, and I had lost a pound. Not a big deal but when you have been stuck on the same weight for awhile, any loss is a plus to me. Started back on my treadmill yesterday so anxious to see if the increased calories and walking will help with more loss.

Hi Mary, it really IS frustrating when you hit a plateau. I guess it's common but it is discouraging like you said! I've heard to stay consistent and to journal..don't know but do understand your frustration. You are doing well tho, hopeffully will get through it soon. I'm trying to get & keep the mindset. Back to exercising so hoping to keep motivation..good luck! Hello to all the 70's group...Dani

Any ideas for getting over a plateau? Been following my diet but no loss again this week. It's so frustrating and discouraging :(

Hi, I'm 72, also a widow. I moved from Gladstone, MO to Eugene OR, about 18 mos. ago to be close to my grandchildren. I picked up about 15 pounds after the move. I enjoy water fitness exercising, gardening, reading and laughing. It took a while to get back to exercising after my move. I'm new to SP, I am looking forward to getting my weight under control with diet and exercise. ((hugs)) emoticon
