I am a April 1957 baby. I can't believe I will be 57 too. I don't feel my age. I need to really take care of my health and this year will be the year.

Here I am! Hey, back in 1978 (when disco was raging with Saturday Night Fever) and we were all turning 21, I read in Parade magazine that year that more people were born in 1957 than in any other year recorded. I always thought that was pretty cool! Now, back then we didn't have the internet or SNOPES so not sure if that was true or not!

I'm a 1957 Baby, just joined here.
I'm on a fairly new running program , doing a 5 k at least 3 times a week.
I'm on the road 40 weeks a year so eating in restaurants has been a real challenge.
Anyone else a fairly new runner?

My week has started out bad. I immediately dropped off the wagon and ate without a care. I wished I could just focus and get this weight moving down the scale. Ugh... anyone have suggestions on how to move forward? It would be greatly appreciated. Exhausted and tired of trying.

Welcome Tops2kopsville and Anti_M. Yesterday I started my own personal challenge to see if I can lose 10 pounds in the next 10 weeks. The last day of the challenge is my birthday. Losing 10 pounds should put me into the Healthy weight range on the BMI chart. Two days in and I am sticking to the program. A streak of two days. I just need to keep my enthusiasm and motivation high so I can be persistent and consistant and not give up before I reach my goal. Hope everyone else is having a good week.

Welcome MI! I think I am finally back on the right time zone. Has only taken a week. Now I have to get my eating and exercising back on track too. I am readjusting to the heat and humidity. Unfotunately I am discovering mold and mildew after being here for six months. :(
I'm not into mold and mildew. Dog has to be bathed at least once a week to keep the fungus and bacteria from getting out of control. Not pretty! But the orchids here seem to do really well. They seem to be everywhere. Got to plan my week out.

Hey everyone, how is it going? Anybody out there? I am leaving the States tomorrow, returning overseas. Expect it will take more than 40 hours door to door this time. Have a 12-hour layover in Amsterdam. I think I will be sleeping at the airport. I've done a lot of eating out, mostly hamburgers and french fries, but I won't be getting anymore of that when I get back overseas. We hardly ever eat out. I make mostly salads for dinners. It is warm and toasty most of the time, so a cold salad usually goes down really well. I bought a hula hoop, a couple of weighted bars a few dumbbells and a couple of exercise DVDs for my shipment. Put my bicycle in there too. Have not been on the bike since about 1995. Should feel really strange! Need to buy a helmet and shoes and have the bike tuned up before I attempt to ride it. Will have to wait a couple of months to get the shipment. In the mean time I will have my treadmill to workout on. I bought the Spark Solution and the SparkPeople Cookbook too. Will be trying new recipes to help me and hubby eat even healthier. Looking forward to being back with hubby and Dog. Hope all of you are still on your journey to better health.

Hey Everyone! How is it going?
Took me 40 hours door to door to return to the US. Happy to be home. Brought the wedding quilt in my luggage. Took two hours to get my luggage at the final airport. Thought I was going to have a melt down if the luggage was completely lost. But they found it before I left. Attended the family wedding. Beautiful couple, beautiful wedding. Fun, humorous and emotional reception. Saw family, splurged on wedding cake (carrot!) made with Sis's recipe. Was a good weekend, but I am happy to be home and catching up on sleep. Am bringing up my walking distances, bringing down the extra calories, upping the water intake. Not easy, but I am working on it. Doctors so far are happy with my progress. Still have a few test results to get and a few more appointments to make and keep, but all seems good. How about you? What are you up to? How are your efforts going?

Hey Everyone,
How are you all doing? I have been MIA for several months. Moved, received shipment, got the treadmill fixed and have completed the wedding quilt for Saturday's wedding. I'm leaving from Indonesia tomorrow. Will have 7 weeks in the States. Plan to get back on track and take off the 5 pounds I gained while I have been MIA. Dog is getting acupuncture now to help with pain management. Marble floors are slippery for her and she falls a lot these days. She will be home with hubby and the male maid while I am in the US. Looking forward to being back in the US, has been nearly two years since my last visit. Poppy, like Dog, has gotten very old in the last year. This last round of pneumonia they sent in the end of life planners. So, I plan to spend time with him, might be my last opportunity to do so. He will be 83 in June. Raising 10 children puts a lot of mileage on the old ticker. Hope to see most of the family at the wedding. Should be noisy and fun.

So true about falling and being picked back up by Him. :) I tend to let go way to often.
My news today is I can call Monday and see if there is a cancelation I am so praying for that.
Breathing is more important than I thought. :)

Woza, sounds like you have issues too. :( I'm sorry but I had to laugh about being dead before they get to you. That the way I feel too. It seems to take so much time between appointments. I'm availbe no one else is.

The verse on the bottom of your message encouraged me today. It's been one of my life verses but for some reason I set it down and forgot about it the last 2 months.
Hugs,
Diana

Not many. I think there were 4 of us posting then it dropped off. I haven't been on because the doctors are trying to figure out what is wrong with me. We've been from horrible prognoisis to maybe it might be asthma but I can't get into the pulmonologist until April 19 for a consult.

Anyway checking in was making me sad because I can't work out at all or I pass out. Which means of course the only other way to control weight is food..... yeah, not in the mood. emoticon

I would love to know that number. :) I type fast too.
Nothing wrong with my heart-excellent shape but no explaination of why I pass out when my heart rate increases. :( Waiting on my primary care doctor to call on that one. I'm sure I'll be having more tests done. Ugh is this what our future holds? :( So hope not.

I'm wondering how many calories I can burn by using my keys on the keyboard. Susan, look at your spit that and then type really fast and let me know how many you burn in a couple minutes.
Oh no! I sound like an exercise addict. I'm not. Just bored sitting. that in its data see my tracker reflects no exercise minutes for March.

Great news, GoMarcia, glad to hear the update, and glad to see you back. Now just go from there, hopefully they'll find out exactly what's going on now that they have the bad stuff out of the way. Always think positive!

I used to hate needles, now the only ones I don't like are the IV type. *shivers* but I'm even used to those now. I guess after this long you have to, don't have a choice, right? :0

Glad you are back home and understand your frustration. It's good they didn't find anything though. And hey you helped me, now if I have to do this I'm not as scared. :) So thanks!

Update: Back home form heart cath which is considered an outpatient surgery so you go through the whole admit process and IV and everything. They used twilight sleep which was great. But they didn't find anything wrong! I was hoping they would find something that they could fix but now I don't know what is causing all the shortness of breath and heart palpation. My hubby says to look on the bright side-- they have ruled out the most serious thing so now what ever is causing the problems will be less serious.

ow ow ow. *Laughing* I hate IV's, keep us updated, I hope everything goes well, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers, Diana!

Hi Gomarciago. Hey, still you've lost 25 pounds then since you first started (you're not like me and gained it all back, plus more, that's a positive!!) OOhhh good luck on the heart catherization, if your doctor allows, you can start out with the seated exercises, but don't do anything without his/her ok. :) You're in my prayers, too.

HAVE A FUNTASTIC DAY EVERYONE!

Hi Rockets,
It seems to be a reoccuring problem in our group. So data would suggest we all need to do things differently --different movements etc to shake up the metabloism. Frustrating.

I have the same problem --- I've been logging and working out for two weeks now - weighed myself and nothing --- Don't understand what is wrong --- used to be so easy to lose now its just easy to gain! Lost 30 lbs a few years back and little by little put it back. Trying everything to get the metabolism moving - but not sure where the problem lies -- calories in - calories out....i'm at 1200-1300 a day - and exercising 4 times a week. UGH--- I'm 56 - born in 56 - Once I hit 50 it became a major problem losing. So, anyway, i feel your pain and wish i had an answer -----

No workouts for me allowed. :( But your right better to be safe than not able to work out for months because of a stroke or heart attack.

Very very true, better to be safe is right, don't try to do more unless you get the ok from your doctor, that way you are able to still do a little, but don't push yourself, be glad with what you are allowed and can do...and go from there. :)

Yep, you're right, writers can make up as they desire! I love that!

I'm just being careful with the five min. of walking. I think I could do more but at what cost? Better to be safe right? hopefully I'll know something after seeing the doctor. I have a feeling he will adjust my medication as well as order a stress test....I know this because I'm a writer and I can make things up as I desire. :)

Susan --good for you on those stairs!!!!!!

Ooohh Pencildancer, that doesn't sound good, the walking for 5 mins every hour, is a workout of sorts. Can you even do the seated workouts, or is that too strenuous too? I'm sure they'll get you back under control, or your meds, and you'll be up and running in no time. :)

~Gives a wave to Susan706~ 50 flights of stairs, I'm impressed!!. Great job!

Good morning!
I have to go to the doctor today to get back into workout class. My heartrate went really high and my arms turned purple. So I've been benched for a bit. I see the doctor this afternoon. It's probably my thyroid meds out of whack they do that. :( So because I can't work out I am going to set my timer to get up and walk for five minutes ever hour. No where near to what I was doing or would be doing this morning but I figure the walking should be fine.

Yes, muscle does weigh more than fat a lot more! I've not been getting on the scale but using measurements for months now because the scale maeks me feel like I've failed.

Checking back in again, crazy busy, but staying with plan so far, so good! Hi Tablackstock, welcome! I live in Georgia too, and have the very same struggles that you are. Seems like everything I have done in the past just does not seem to work. Stick with it, I am starting to see some results again, but I am sticking very close to my calories. I have added more movement, by using my Fitbit, I make sure I get all my stairs,( 10 flights a day) plus some, and hitting my 10,000 steps a day too. I really have to hit the treadmill and or take the dog for a really long walk to hit the 10,000 mark. I even did 50 flights of stairs one day, just to challenge myself and earn that bigger badge! I don't do them at the same time, I break it up into several times a day. Still gets frustrating that the scale inches down, but have one "bad" meal and up it pops 2 pounds! Ugh!!! Well we have good company for our journey, don't we? I'll keep checking in!!! Just keep going!!!!

Attitude is everything so pick a good one!!

Susan

Hi, Tablackstock, you sound like me, I lost 60 and gained it all back after a family crisis. As for not losing weight yet, it may be possible that you're building muscle and that will not show as a weight loss, BUT try measurements, see if you've lost that way. I know that sometimes that happens, have you added exercise to the plan? If not, try some of the ones here, they have some excellent ones, even if you're just sitting in a chair, and trust me, they do wear you out and help you! Just go to videos or do a search on here for exercise videos, whether chair exercise, or other. Best of luck!

PencilDancer is right, an alteration in the type of exercise you may be doing will help tremendously, too, because sometimes your body does get used to the one type of exercise and so if you alter it, even just a little, it'll help!
