I think sugar is very hard to break free of. It's almost like our brains are hard-wired to want it! Sometimes substituting the artificial stuff just keeps that craving for sweetness alive. Sometimes, for me personally, it's hard to tell whether I'm eating out of a true physical/nutritional craving (and if so, why sugar, which is basically nutritionally empty?) or if it's filling some kind of emotional need.
I do agree with 60SIXTY. Don't let yourself get overly hungry. When you eat something, try to have a little bit of protein with it. Not straight carbs. If sugar is a true trigger food for you, then steer clear of it in all of its forms, like HFCS, which is insidious and in some many things nowadays! Limit your use of processed foods, which are notorious for having hidden sugar (and other junk). Choose whole fruit over juice; even without added sugar, it is naturally high in sugar and more likely to cause blood sugar spikes, which can set off cravings. If you can pause before you give in to the binge and do something to distract yourself, even get out of the house if possible, you might be able to avert it. Although I'm still working on this myself!
