A minimum of 30 minutes a day. I have been off this week and have been trying to do 60 minutes and love it because it doubles the calories burned. Next week may do 30 before work and 30 when I get home. Loovvve my treadmill.

Started the New Year on the right foot. 40 minutes on the treadmill. My goal is to do at least 30 minutes each day.

I have a manual treadmill that is on an incline. It was one of the cheapest ones. I can only walk for about 1 minute before I can feel it in my hip and leg so I have to stop. When I was at the gym I could walk for hours on the electric treadmill.

Hi. I only just started using the treadmill. Walked 15 minutes, only went about 3/4 of a mile. But it is a start.

When I first started my weight loss journey, I was 307 pounds and had severe back pain with shooting pains down my left leg. I couldn't walk 50 feet without having to stop and sit down, out of breath and hurting. Then, I had Gastric Bypass surgery, thinking that the weight loss would help my back pain. Unfortunately, it hasn't. But I had an epidural pain shot, and that DID help it. I originally started at the gym doing 7 minutes on the stationary bike, and about 10 minutes on the rowing machine. I built up to 30 minutes on the stationary bike, going from an intensity of 1 to an intensity of 7, and built up to 15 minutes on the rowing machine. I also did a "hand-bike" kind of thing for 15 minutes. Anything for cardio. Then, I broke my wrist, and couldn't do the rowing machine or the hand bike anymore, and I can't do the stairmaster or the elliptical because of severe OA in my left knee, so I was left with the treadmill. I worked through the pain in my lower back and leg, and started out at 2 mph at a zero incline for about 15 minutes. Now, 4 months later, I'm doing 30 minutes at 3 mph on the "weight loss" program, which varies the incline from zero to 7.5% to keep your heart rate up. I get hot and sweaty, and I don't like that, but at least I can walk now... and walk at a good clip for someone with severe lumbar spinal stenosis.

One of my goals for the new year is to climb back on the treddie and make it work for me. I have one here at home so there are really NO excuses not to walk. And it is way tooooo cold to walk outside. May get below zero tonight. bbbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrr

I can't walk it right now due to spurs on my feet, but its my favorite exercise, I walk it about 30 minutes when no one is waiting to use it. If someone is waiting you have to get off after 20 minutes, but for now my doc told me not to walk it at all due to the pain.

I work out-at least 30 minutes 5 times a week, although I mix it up with longer 40-60 minute work-outs a couple times a week. I alternate riding my bike on a wind trainer and treadmill, so it doesn't get boring. The other 2 days are for strength training.

I'm thinking of buying a ProForm 995. Does anyone here have that one?

I love having my treadmill for "walking" insurance on days like today. I really prefer walking outdoors, but today we have had over 12 inches of snow and still counting. Thank goodness I can use my treadmill.
I love my treadmill - 8 year old Trimline - used to run, but have been walking now for 2 years - outside in spring, summer & fall - but Michigan winters force me to use my treadmill - I walk 3 miles 5 days a week, 4.0 miles per hour at 6% incline. To keep from getting bored, I have a TV set up in front of the treadmill - I also do sputs - 2 min. every 5 minutes at 4.5 to 4.8 mph. I set my alarm for 5:45 s.m. every weekday & jump up before I think too much. This works for me.

Do you watch TV while you're working out?
I have found that watching "The Biggest Loser" or a comedy movie, etc. can be very interesting. Sometimes it's so interesting that I almost don't notice how long I've been working out.

That's an impressive workout! Keep up the good work.
I prefer biking myself, but right now is colder than I like to be outdoors riding... so it's off to the treadmill!
I'm 65 and walk 60 minutes 5 days a week at 4mph at 2.5 % incline. So I can walk a mile in 15 minutes. Have always been active but only started doing the treadmill about a year ago. It was a Xmas gift from my son. It sure has helped improve my balance and stamina. But then my mother is 97 and still can walk by herself with her walker. She writes me a two page letter every 2 weeks--it is very coherent and readable.

That's great news Jempower! What a wonderful feeling to be excited and tired... I'm sure a happy tired. Best of luck with this~
I'm really new to the treadmill. For the past 20 years I've used a wheelchair and I kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Well, now, I'm walking a little. Today I used the treadmill for 10 minutes and 41 seconds. That's the most I did it so far. I felt so excited and tired. I can hardly wait until I can tolerate it for half an hour or an hour. I love it.

Jempower you are an unbelievable lady. Walking 7 minutes on the treadmill is absolutely wonderful so do not take your accomplishment lightly. When I started walking for health I would be so exhausted after about 15 minutes and I have been walking my entire life. I am now doing much better so I can do more. You are just so awesome and if you need support just post a message and there will be many friends there for you. Again, What a Way to Go!!!

You know I just started walking again after being in a wheelchair for 20 years. But, today I did the treadmill for 7 minutes and I was elated!!!! Although I did try to negotiate for only 6 miniutes because I'm still a little afraid I will fall. But, I hold onto the bars and the therapist holds onto my pants so really I probably won't fall.
I can hardly wait until I can go into the gym and get onto the treadmill all by myself and walk for an hour or something like that. I know 7 minutes doesn't really mean much to you guys yet. But, to me it was so much.

I love my treadmill! I have a small tv set up in front of it and watch the morning news there. I do 30 minutes on the days I strength train and 40-60 minutes the other days. When I started, 15 minutes at 3.5 mph would kill me. Today I did a program I've set up that took me up to a 6% incline and 4 mph for 60 minutes. Who would have thought 6 months ago that this overweight 62 year old would be doing that!

Challenge myself using the firefighters fitness test. Set it at male, aged 20 and a lighter weight than I am. I try to improve my time by one minute each time. I am over 50 and female. Fun to aim to be as fit as 20 year old firefighter

I love my treadmill! I walk/run until it registers 400 calories then have a 5 minute cooldown. I was doing this three times a week but I developed the worse cold in years and have not been on it for at least two weeks.
My allergies and asthma make it hard to exercise outdoors so the treadmill is my lifeline.

I'm starting to use the one at work regularly. only 10 minutes today, but then I did weights. Does that count?

Use it nearly everyday (since Aug. 25th) and it works for me! I do 30 to 40 minutes a day, unless I am feeling weak. I like walking outside, but I am not as distracted if I walk inside. I can tell a big difference in my clothing--it doesn't hurt anymore!

I used to use the treadmill to do long walks: 40+ mins at 4+ mph. Three weeks ago I began running again; this time I am running barefoot. Had to start slow (5 mph) but as the skin thickened, I have begun to increase my speed. I burn more calories. I don't trust the number on the machine, but I can tell I am burning more.

I'm getting to know this website and I'm beginning my plan for tomorrow. I'm in pretty good shape, I'm a Yoga instructor, but I need to lose 20 pounds. I feel that Spark People will be a fresh start for me. I've heard a lot of good things.

Looking to start on the treadmill again. Record what I eat and how many calories I burn during my workouts.
A new study from the National Institutes of Health found that the most sedentary individuals are 2.5 times more likely to develop dementia than regular exercisers.
