good evening everyone...

Sue (cold toes). YAAY! Good for you! Congrats.on your weight loss. You've been a busy one as well haven't you?

Kelly...It's sad to hear about your daughter divorcing. I know all of us that have children worry for them. It's hard not to if you ask me. Your a praying mom. I know for sure your lifting her before the Lord right now. You've had a lot of struggles this year for sure. May the Lord open the gates of heaven and pour you out a blessing you won't be able to contain them all!

Jeanine... you really are something else child. I don't know how you do it! You have your hands full too don't you? It'll been nice when you get the reno's behind you. well shoot, even your job is a chore right now! I'm tired just reading all the stuff your doing! LOL

Rose...I know, your right. I have tried to encourage others during stressful times. It just feels awkward when it's my turn! She isn't able to get assisted living. She cannot be left alone except sleeping time. We are getting buzzers installed so if she ever tries to open a door the buzzer goes off. Right now we're talking about hiring someone thru eldercare to help on the days I have to work.

Pat...OH! I so relate...my daughter had a real loser as well. she finally kicked him to the curb!!!

I'm ready for bed. i'm just so darn tired. I really appreciate all your kind words of encouragement. thanks very much!!

Kelly, Our DS Rick wants to stay in Afghanistan as long as he can. He has found some really good men over there and it is so hard for him to get attached to them as he has to leave them once again. I don't know if I would be able to do that like he does.

But then, when I was a Chaplin at the hospital my main floor was being with the cancer patients and I knew most of them only had so much time left. I still treasure tho the time I DID have with them....The one thing most of the patients talked to me about was what will my family do when I am gone? They were worried about their loved ones and would they be able to make it on their own...Never about what was their future going to be for them...

Hi everyone,

I'm baaaack! Woo! Twice in one day! Hope I don't make it storm. Ron is working at the track so I had to come home and put supper together after work. I'm really spoiled since I've been working at the lot. Usually supper's sitting on the table when I walk in the door, but they're having a special Three Rivers Festival race on Wednesday, so lots to do at the track to get ready for it and not much time to get ready. I mixed up supper and stuck it in the oven and it will be ready any minute now.

Pat - it's so hard when you see your daughter wasting her life on a looser. Been there. The only thing you can do is bite your tongue to keep from saying anything critical of him and make her feel she has to defend him, and pray that she will eventually see the light. I'll keep her in my prayers.

Kelly - it's too bad that your daughter is facing a divorce even if it's probably best for both of them. Just praying that they both will be able to go on and build a happier life apart and find peace between the two of them. Also praying for Guy that the blood work will turn out to be nothing serious. You and your family have had way more than your fair share of grief this year.

Cindy - I'm sure in the past when someone has apologized for whining you've assured them that we are here to help our friends through the hard times and it's ok to vent with us. Now it's time to listen to your own words. We are here for you too. Maybe you can keep your mil with you for a bit while you look for a place for her to live where she will be happy. Do they have assisted living facilities in your area. She could have the medical assistance that she needs but it would be a more home-like atmosphere than a nursing home and she would have housemates her own age. You wouldn't be "dumping" her and walking away. You could still see her often and take her out whenever you wanted to. You just wouldn't have to do all the work on your own. Having cared for my mom and mil at the same time, I testify to how overwhelming it can be.

Carol - prayers for you and J in the passing of your sil. Take comfort in knowing that she's not suffering anymore.

Jeanine - I've notice lately that you've seemed extra tired and stressed and now I know why. You have a LOT on your plate right now. Is there something that could be put on hold for a bit until things settle down? Maybe your renovation projects at home, if the mess doesn't drive you totally bonkers? You need a break before you break.

EMartin - welcome! I can't do sit ups or push ups because of my back and knees, so a physical therapist told me to lie flat on my back, pull my stomach muscles in and hold for a count of five, then repeat as a way to tighten and strengthen my floppy belly. Maybe you could try that for your belly fat?

Well, the timer on the oven beeped five minutes ago so I'd better go pull supper out of the oven or I will be eating a plateful of ashes for supper. Have a good night/day everyone.

Rose

Good morning and welcome aboard to all newcomers. Heaps of great support in here for everyone :-)

It is another sunny day on the westside of Auckland, NZ

Merri, Trisha, Kelly Sue, Cindy and everyone else: *waves* and you all have a great day :-)

Pat: Wohoooo you are a party animal too, staying up late... :-)

Rose: Well done on getting your car oil changed...

Jeanine: Next time tell that dude that he has 2 days to do it in.... give him a time limit.... otherwise it ends up putting you way behind and then you cope it from higher up... and that is so not fair on you.

Everyone have a great day/evening

Westchick - I am trying hard to pick and choose which 'extra' things to be loaded down with. We have a new employee from Ghana who started just over two weeks ago. I'd been after him since the first day of work to get various papers in to me. He finally came by the office this morning to hand them in. Poor guy I nearly bit his head off. Wanted to white out some of what he did and redo it. I glanced over it and said tersely that it was fine, I can read it. Thanks for bringing it in and continued working. He IS a really nice kid, just pretty laid back and nothing seems to be urgent with him. I did tell him I was very busy so I hope it didn't bother him too much!

Rhonda - I'll have to view those pictures before I sign off. I bet the day was wonderful!

Cindy - (((Hugs))) What an adjustment time you are having. No you aren't whining but I think you might be just a little bit overwhelmed. I'm praying that things settle down for you a bit and that you WILL be able to keep MIL/Grandma for a while without too much of a burden. I wanted so much to be able to keep my mom for at least a little while and it just never happened. Many blessings on you and your family!!

Kelly - They were supposed to be filming on Friday night and all day Saturday. As it turns out they managed to get it ALL done on Friday night, YAY. We were probably back on about the fifth row of the audience for the Miss Cut Bank pageant filming. Leftover meatloaf was for lunch for me, mmmm. One of my favorites. I think steak is on the menu for Friday night. Celebrating the weekend, LOL. Any weekend is worth celebrating! Sounds like you had a pretty busy day yesterday!

Sue Cold Toes - I'm going to be gone for ten days in October but I'm hoping that by then Doris would have quit and we would have found someone else to do her job so I don't have to. I have been downright snippy the last few days. Doesn't help that I still have a month to go with my online payroll course, doing the work for two people AND major renovations at home. Ah well, this too shall pass!

Pat - I think I'd be at the pool if it was that warm around here too! I bet you got LOTS of exercise in!!

Treasalm - I'm with you, sick of cancer. I haven't had it myself, thank God, but surrounded by it. I hate seeing what it does to people. A friend of mine just lost her mom on the weekend to cancer. Hugs girl! Praying for a positive, good news ultrasound for you!!

Trisha - How nice that you had such good weather. I bet the grandkids had a blast!!

Rose - Oh my, what a life you lead. I swear you are busier than I am!! Deep fried candy bars? I'm having a heart attack just thinking about it!! My husband and I split a bag of mini doughnuts and that is it for us. How is that for adventurous? We don't even go on the rides anymore (Brian get sick). I, on the other hand, LOVE the rides but don't like spending the money so we just avoid the area EXCEPT we stop by for the doughnuts and beat a hasty retreat, lol.

Well, this being a pay week I'm pretty busy. The deck is nearly done. Been raining nearly non-stop all day so I suspect it will be working indoors tonight. Finished my assignment that was due today. I have two more chapters (one a week) and then two weeks to prepare for my final. Jen moves to Red Deer in two weeks. She just gave her notice at work. Brian and I aren't happy about it. I think she'll go down mid-week to look for a job. It doesn't make sense to me to give up two perfectly good part time jobs and no rent to pay to move, have rent to pay and no jobs. She's moving to an area where jobs are at a premium due to the fact that there are colleges there with other college kids working. Her boyfriend wants her to go to Dubai with him for Christmas and says he'll pay her way. I'm shaking my head. He is a college kid as well and Jen currently makes more money than he does. I'm stepping back and shutting up now, lol.

I do hope you are all having a wonderful day!!

Jeanine

Hi everyone,

I was doing so well for a few days with checking in here every day, but it kinda went down the tubes on Wednesday. We had two storms blow through in the afternoon with strong winds and heavy winds. It all cleared up about 4PM and was much cooler, no humidity and nice and sunny. Then about 5PM Ron called me at work and said we had no power. He said he heard a loud BOOM! from down the road and the whole neighborhood went out. We're guessing a transformer blew. So we were without power all evening. It came back on sometime in the night while we were sleeping. Thank goodness it was cooler after the storm or we would have been miserable without the a/c. We were able to open all the windows and had a cool breeze blow through the house all night. Didn't last long. The heat and humidity are back and the a/c is back on again.

We had Jesse all evening on Wednesday while Katie worked and then he was back again on Thursday....again while Katie worked. One of her friends stayed here with him in the afternoon while I was at work and was here all evening. Katie stopped and picked up another friend on her way here after work and the three were still here until after 11PM. I had to point out that Grandpa's alarm would be going off in less than 6 hours. They took the hint and went home.

On Thursday morning I finally took the car in for an oil change. Can't remember when it was done last, so it was long overdue. (I can hear Westchick cringing. I know how important it is to you to maintain your vehicles properly.) On Friday I took Reo to the vet for her annual shots. She was NOT a happy kitty! She started yowling as I carried her out the door and went she saw the car, went totally nuts trying to get away. I have the scratches on my arms and throat to show for it. She didn't attack me.....she was just scared and trying to get free. Anyways, she's feeling better now and I'm forgiven......until next time.

I didn't have to babysit on Saturday. Deb had the day off and kept Jesse while Katie worked at the track. The girls both came over with babies and Lexie and we sat at the kitchen table and played cards all afternoon. Haven't done that since I can't remember when. Very pleasant afternoon.

It's Three Rivers Festival time again this week and yesterday Jen and I spent most of the day downtown. We spent over two hours in one park where they had a large flea market. Then we went to a restaurant for lunch and to cool down. We went to another park for Art in the Park, but it was disappointing. Fewer displays than last year and almost all of them were either pottery, jewelry, or paintings. Very pretty, but not worth stopping and checking out closely since we weren't shopping for anything in particular. We bought a bag of roasted almonds, which has become a tradition to take home for Ron, and by then I was becoming ill from the heat and humidity and could barely walk, so I hobbled back to the car and waited there while Jen went over to Junk Food Alley. Junk Food Alley is exactly what it sounds like. Half a block long row of venders selling over priced, unhealthy food. If anyone reading this is hankering for a deep fried candy bar that costs something like $7., they will be in town through Saturday. lol Sounds yucky to me! This is another tradition that we indulge in once a year. Jen gets deep fried cheese sticks and while she was there she picked up an elephant ear for me. There was so much more that I wanted to do, but couldn't take the heat anymore and could barely walk.

I'm still sore today so other than washing the aprons and towels from the race track, I've spent a fairly quiet morning. Whoa! I just looked at the clock. I need to eat lunch and finish getting ready for work. Have to leave in less than an hour. I wanted to respond to people's messages posted, but I'll have to continue on tonight after work. Have a good day/night everyone.

Rose

Rhonda, thanks for your explanation of New Zealand healthcare, Although I am am not a big supporter of Obama care, It may lead to more jobs. It has been suggested that 3 million people without healthcare will be joining the ranks of insured. That may lead to more positions in healthcare and support positions. I am certainly going to apply at my local hospitals and clinics! Hope everyone is doing well. I was just called in for another ultrasound on my pelvic region. Hope nothing more is found there. I am so sick of cancer! We have had very humid weather here in MN. Hoping it will go away soon and that we can have the great summers that I remember.

EMARTIN, welcome. I think you have found yourself a new home. We are happy to have you.

Cindy, keep venting. If it helps your sanity, then we are here for you.

Westchick, you are such a party animal. Staying out until 3am. I can't do that, but I was up partying until 12::30 this morning. Partying with the neighbors (registered sex offender excluded.)

Went to the pool for 4 hours today on a 91 degree day. It was packed.

Kelly, I just came back and was reading through some of the wonderful posts on here and I did see where you were asking me if we did get a grill yet....NOPE, they still didn't go on sale here. We really don't need one right away and I am going to wait them down....Even if I have to wait until our DS comes home from Afghanistan for his visit now the end of Sept. They had told him he was to come right about now, than they said he is doing such a good job he could stay there until the end of Aug, well now until the end of Sept, Most everyone over in Afghanistan wants to come home and my DS just loves it over there. He is in a really nice compound and it seems every time he gets to get really close with his buddies, they want to move him once again. He is in one of the safest places over there, there is a safe place LOL.....It was either doing this or becoming a missionary......

Good morning... :-)

It is a sunny day.... but gee whizz the wind is bitterly cold... so it is another southerly wind coming up the island.

The neighbours have had a few branches felled off a big tree out back,,,, so out come the camera to snap a few shots of the bloke up the tree hanging by a safety rope...

Rhonda: Great photos that you have added in :-)

Hello...

Oh you guys are so awesome! thank you for understanding!!! I got up to go to church this morning. Alas! It didn't happen. My children had a bit of an "intervention" for me this morning. They feel that gramma needs more help than I am able to provide. The only time I left her was to go to the dr. to pick up a medical release form. She is in a lot of pain. She had back surgery many years ago. I need a dr. to take her to. She had a titanium rod put in her back. The dr. told us back then that she most likely will need to have them adjusted. I have a feeling it might be time. I just don't know if I could just put her in a facility and walk away. It has only been 2 weeks since SIL passed. With her moving here and losing her daughter I just don't feel I can put her somewhere and be ok with that! I just don't know what to do. Lord, I don't know what to do but my eyes are upon you.

Hi everyone, I'm here for my weekly check-in. I am quite happy with my weigh-in today....I lost 4 pounds!! After gaining 1.5 pounds last week, this is welcome news indeed. About the Herbalife....my daughter had good luck with it, so I decided to give it a go. She makes me a shake in the morning before she leaves for work, and I have it for lunch. Breakfast and dinner are still regular meals. Most days, I don't feel hungry at all between lunch and dinner. I have also been having lots of talks with God, asking him to help me. With his help, I lost 4 pounds this week. I kind of thought I had lost, but didn't expect 4 lbs!

Read a few of the posts, but not all. I take it that no one has heard from Liba yet. I think she should be back home by now, if I remember correctly. I'm sure she had a wonderful time. Hope she liked S California....maybe she decided to stay!!

Cindy, I feel for you. I helped take care of my mother before she died, and it was a lot of work, not that I minded though. But I didn't have her full-time. So I can only imagine what it must be like. You will have good memories though, and I'm sure you feel good about what you are doing.

Jeanine, are you exhausted yet?? I remember when that sort of thing happened to me at work. Then I went on a planned vacation, and it took 2 people to do my work. When I returned, they both ran up to me and hugged me! They were so glad I was back, and told me they didn't realize how much I did!

Oops, daughter just drove up, got to go. Have a great day everyone. I know I will.

Sue

Cindy, I was never able to take care of an elderly relative like you are doing. I think it takes a "special" person to be able to do it too. There has to be more good times that you will always carry in your heart with you taking care of her too. God Bless you and he will give you strength.

No Cindy, you definitely don't sound whiney. You have to have some place to vent a little bit and what better place than here where you have so many friends that love you! You and your family are in my prayers!

Good evening everyone...I sure do miss it here. I come on when I can. Gramma is a loooot of work! She seems to be quite content. I can't tell if she remembers her daughter Gail. I can't believe it's been 2 wks since she passed. It's been so busy around here, days and nights seem the same. I'm not complaining, please understand...but my life seems to have come to a complete halt! Hopefully soon things will get better. There is no rhythm. It changes everyday. I just don't want to put her in a home right now. I think she needs to be surrounded by people who love her and want to help her. I'll know when to say when. I want the best for gramma. We enjoy having her with us. I think I sound whiny...am I whiny???

Oh I so needed to see normalcy...got my fix!!! have a great night/day

hugs!

Back from Gracie's baptism and it was a wonderful event to witness....Gracie di us proud as she was VERY GOOD indeed.....but she did get kind of overwhelmed by all the attention in the end though which is very understandable for a 4 year old...
The whole church service was beautiful...and besides Gracie's baptism there were ladies who were confirmed into the church...After church we had a cup of tea while the "helpers' prepared everything and seating arrangements for lunch. The lunch was delicious ..salads ..chicken ..ham ..prawns....and then dessert..pavlova ..chocolate mousse...cheesecake...and of course Gracie's cake specially made for her day!!!..It was a chocolate cake decorated with butterflies and her name on it!!
I did very well I think ...I did not over indulge ..YEYYY ME!!!!

Pat, I have not had one problem with my knee replacement. I walked with a cool walker with a seat on it for 17 years before I could find a dr to do my knee...I have what they call RSD and the drs weren't sure if my knee would heal with the dystrophy in it. Ten days later after surgery, I have the dr my walker and my crutch that I had used for 17 years too. It has never given me any kind of problem at all...My DS keeps telling me that is because I am to gosh darn ornery LOL.....

Westchick - I'm not sure I smiled all that sweetly, lol BUT I already had it in my mind that I was going to get caught up on all the payroll stuff I had to do (that I was hired for) and THAT was going to be my priority on Friday. I put a huge dent in it, my desk was free and clear of excess payroll work and when Barb asked for the list of outstanding monies that we could expect in by next friday I merely said I hadn't had time to make ANY calls and wouldn't be able to get around to it. She didn't say a word and took the receivables book. Later I saw the book back on my desk with some stickies with the word call on it. I just put the book in my cupboard and ignored it. She said nothing to me and I wasn't going to ask. I always feel duty bound to do everything that is asked of me.

Pat - Isn't it frustrating? Believe me, I know how you feel about your daughter. Frustrating when you KNOW they can be doing so much better and have so much going for them. When you raise them right or as right as you know how (train up a child in the way they should go) and pray for them daily, how do you just let go? Jordan may be the right person for Jen, seems good but I know nothing about him and it is sending up huge red flags when his grandparents who live in the same city as he does (he just moved out from their place) basically want nothing to do with him. Why? What's going on? Is it just the inability of grandparents with the adult grandchildren? Sigh. Time to spend more time on my knees? I have so many questions.

Carol - Sounds like there is a lot going on at your household as well. It really didn't stop with the wedding, did it?

Kelly - I'm with you, wondering how Liba is doing. We are currently in a cycle where we get storms daily. Starts off sunny and then storms by supper time.

Merri - That exercise is great for the abdominals as well.

Emartin - Welcome. No, you don't have to look for another group, lol. The best way to cut some of the belly fat (that I've been able to discover so far) is cut down on the carbs. Mostly the breads/cereals, etc. There are other items that have a high carb content such as potatoes. I also found that cutting down my carb content did wonders for reducing my blood sugars as well.

Rhonda - How exciting! Enjoy your day today (I'm SURE you will).

Last night was a LATE night. We were at the filming until around 10 then drove down to Red Deer to drop off a bunch of Jen's things that were in the back of the truck and got home around 3 am. Nope, no nightclubs for us Westchick, lol. I was still awake before 8 but just bagged. I have homework that NEEDS to get done this weekend so I'm off to do that.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend all.

Jeanine

Westchick you sound like a fun gal! Out 'till 3am! Good for you! I am new to this Over 50 group. Soon to be 60! Should I find another group? Started Sparkpeople 3/13 have lost 15 pounds so far. Walk a lot, and find it easy to lose weight with SP nutrition guide. Had brain surgery a yr and half ago so can't do floor exercises--make me dizzy, any suggestions how to get rid of my belly along the way? Thx

Carol, I will pray for you and J. To have to settle an estate is hard work I am sure J will do a great job too.

Kelly, sounds like you have a busy day ahead. Good exercise though.

Merri, have you had any problems since having the knee replaced?

Not much planned for today. I'll make my daughter do all the apartment searching today without my help. I don't want to have to spend the day with the loser boyfriend. Thanks to everyone for the prayers regarding her moving back in with the guy.

Pam, I had my total knee replacement done 3 1/2 years ago now. I had to wait two months to get mine done as the dr is just so busy. That did in deed give me time to do my pre-op exercises. I just did what I was told to do for my lower back. I just lifted my leg up laying on my back on our bed and than let the leg come down about 12" from the bed and held it there for as long as I could. That gets the quad a lot stronger. The stronger the quad is, the better for your knee....

Hello, dear friends. well, we got the call this morning that my husband's oldest sister, Mary, passed away about 10:30 am. She went fast at the end with no time to get the family there, but she went without suffering. She is finally at peace. Please pray for J if you think of him. He is executor and her trustee and it is a bit complicated. He is stressed about all the work it will entail and wants to do a good job. He will do a great job. It's just all new to him. We will be at the funeral home tomorrow and then to her room at the group home to start clearing it out since we have time tomorrow. Funeral will mostly be family as she had few friends so we are trying to set it up for funeral and burial in one day-Tuesday probably.

Seems like we are all going through so much lately. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers and thank you for yours. Blessings, -C

My daughter said that they are going apartment shopping tomorrow. Their lease is up and they have until August 1st to be out. When getting an apartment, they still need to go through a background check, credit check, and need deposit money. That's going to put a dent in their budget. He has a student loan and a car payment, plus he smokes. She has no car payment, no student loans and does not smoke. She also makes more money. I wish I could open her eyes to see that being tied to that loser for another year is a mistake.

Good morning everyone :-)

Yep a tad chilly here with a bit of sun.... so out go 3 loads of washing on the line.

Pat: Yes I passed with flying colours with my 3 monthly medical... got all my drugs too..

Jeanine: Do the first job asked of you in the morning... complete it... if others ring up demanding you do another job.. state 'I am completing this first then I will... do your job.....' and say as soon as this is finished then yes I will get onto your job.
Prioritise the jobs that need to be done... you are not a machine... and can only do one job at a time... maybe they should employ a temp to do the other person's job until they come back from vocation.
But above all else, smile sweetly at them.... and do not growl back at them..

I opened up this message box to write and have been meaning to get back to it ALL day.

Both Brian and I got our call to be extras in the movie Cut Bank to be filmed here in Edmonton. We are in the segment being filmed tonight and tomorrow. In an audience somewhere.

Barb wanted me to make some calls today, not going to happen and I'm not going out of my way to do it! I'm such a brat.

Cindy - my only garden is what little bit I've planted in my flower garden. I'm giving away lots and putting up very little. I enjoy buying things at the farmer's market. That way I still get fresh AND local.

After the filming tonight we are moving some of Jen's stuff to Red Deer. Filming starts again at 10 am tomorrow.

Jeanine (spelled it right this time!!)

Hello everyone from here in north Georgia and all around this small world of ours emoticon

I have thought about so many of you and what is going on in your lives for the past week (s?) or so. I have really meant to get back on here and offer you all some supportive words of my own but I am afraid that I have bit off more than I can chew by joining several Challenges here on SP. I just want you to know that your concerns have been added to my daily LOTH prayers that my husband and I pray so please know your needs are being heard and, hopefully, you will see some kind of resolution in the near future of one kind or the other.

It is always difficult to watch our loved ones make choices that are counter to their happiness. I think I may have mentioned about my Dad needing hospital care. After running lots of tests, it really got down to personal physical neglect. My sister, who lives with him, also is shuttling herself back and forth between caring for our 84 year old father and her two grandchildren, Sadie and Jude, 3 and 2. She herself has COPD as well as severe arthritis. It is truly the "blind leading the blind". I was so hoping that once Dad settled into the nursing home for physical therapy to build up his strength, she would realize she herself is not well enough to do all of this but pride is a funny thing. She knows it and has somewhat admitted it to me but he is returning home this coming Monday because the more he complains the more nervous she gets and she caved into him. I live 986 miles away. I am married. Although I could come there for a short period of time it is not realistic for me to stay there indefinitely. That would not be fair to my husband especially since the best and easiest way to resolve this situation is to keep my Dad in a professional nursing environment where he can get what he physical needs. However, he complained so much to my sister, he is returning home this Monday. The whole situation saddens me.

We too had a long protracted spell of tropical rains coming up from the Gulf of Mexico. August can also be a pretty intense period of potential hurricanes so what we can get is the back water from them as they hit land. Our garden has survived and we have been really enjoying the fresh radishes, Swiss chard, spinach and cherry tomatoes.

As a person who has had to live without health insurance for 4 years now and with some upcoming changes in our own national health care system next year, I am wondering how my particular situation will be handled. The #1 thing we Americans hear about other countries is that people have to wait to see a doctor. I have no problem with waiting as long as I know I will eventually get seen. I personally think most Americans are somewhat spoiled by their own private insurances and go for a lot of things that proper diet and exercise would "fix". 60% of the American population is obese. I just read a statistic that if things continue as they are, by 2020 (only 6 1/2 years away), 1 out of 2 Americans will either have pre-diabetes, which currently insurance companies will not pay to be treated, or have full blown diabetes. Supposedly, we are the richest country in the world and yet we have a very sick fat populace which ironically is going to cost our health care system even more $$ to take care of. When I hear other people say they would rather take a pill than change their dietary habits, I just shake my head. How very very sad, IMO!

I need knee replacement surgery for sure on my right knee and possibly on my left knee and my right hip. I am hoping that by the time that I get this surgery done, I will be much closer to my ideal weight, my muscles toned and strengthened and my post op recovery will go by without any hitches. I have heard the best way to make recovery easier is to do my pre-op homework. That is my incentive in doing what I am doing now.

One week until I am 60 years old. I had hoped that I would be my goal weight (I won't be) but I have managed to lose 76.4 lbs. from my heaviest with 33.25" lost overall. It has taken a couple of years and I hope to lose the remainder within the next 14-16 months but I do believe that I will make it.

A good friend of mine did an photo overlay of the progress that I have made since February. The grayed areas are the areas that I have lost and are "no more". I posted it on my Spark Page for any one who might want to see my progress. She leads another group I belong to (not on Sparkpeople) and she has always insisted that we take photos along the way as we lose weight and workout. She even noted that I am standing taller as a result. Well, since I carry the majority of my weight through my middle, I was stooped over. Not so much any more. I also posted a photo of me after I had only lost 25 lbs. My face is quite round. I am doing a major reno of our guest bedroom and I found one photo of me at my heaviest (301.8 lbs.) As soon as I can get it scanned, I will upload it to my Spark Page.

I do love that morbidly obese person because I know what brought me to that weight. It was a lot of pain and self-hatred. As I learn to love myself more, I also am developing more self-esteem and belief in myself as I do this. My favorite quote is from "The Hurricane" when the main character says from prison, "Hate got me in this and love is going to bust me out!" The more I learn to love myself by doing what is in my best interest, something we all have to learn at some time in our lives, the more I take care of myself. I hope you too will consider that when you choose something good to do for yourself like a walk, eating the right kind of foods or just giving yourself the sleep and space that you need to nurture yourself. As they say in the airline industry, "Put your oxygen mask on first before you help someone else."
The more we love ourself, the more it overflows in love for others. This is the Second Commandment, "Love others as we love ourselves." I had a hard time loving others when I didn't love myself. Now, I can't give it enough to others. That is just how it works.

Take care, Pam emoticon

Hello all my spark friends. It's a beautiful sunny day today.

Pat I'm sorry to hear your daughter went back to her boyfriend. You're right though, the parents are usually the last people they want to listen to.

Jeanine I think it's terrible the way the hard workers are taken advantage of. Hope things settle down for you soon.

My prayers go out to you in need today - Cindy, Kelly and the rest of you.

I'm going out to do a little yard work and then I'll go up to see the girls. They're doing really well. Hannah is over three pounds now and Lucy finally made it over the 2 pound mark.
Have a blessed day everyone!

Sue

Pat. I so hear you about the bills with the dentist. We don't have any dentist ins at all.

Kelly, I sure hope Guy is going to be ok with his blood work. It is always so scary waiting like that. Than more than likely they will do blood work and than you will be waiting once again for those results...

Ken is talking to our DS over in Afghanistan right now. He can actually call from his cell phone too....He asked me if I would call his step son to talk to him about just having his ACL in his knee done on Tues. He is going to start PT this morning. All I can suggest is SLOW and EASY....

Kelly, so sorry to hear about your DD. I pray that the divorce with bring her happiness. Sometimes the best thing for the couple is for them to become single again. If it was apparent to you, then it was probably inevitable. I hope that Guy has a health problem that is easily treatable. He and your DD will be in my prayers.

Carol, I had a cleaning last month and I also need a crown replaced. I went 3 weeks ago and had a root canal first. Two days ago my dentist removed the old crown and did the mold for a new one. He had to drill the old one off, but after having a root canal, I did not even need to be numbed. The most painful part is the bills. LOL

Tirsha, I hear what you are saying about the carbs. I'm going back home next week to celebrate my mother's 85th birthday and I know that people will be pushing me to eat cake.

Westchick, I hope the doctor's appointment went well.

Jeanine, you must be really frustrated, you spelled your name wrong. Seriously, I hope your sanity holds during the heavy vacation period.

Treasalm, what you say about healthcare in the States is true, but may change when Obamacare takes place. That is so scary as we age.

Rhonda, wishing you well.

Cindy, I am so glad to hear that you son is visiting for 2 weeks. I will pray for your Gramma.

Well, my daughter went back to her boyfriend. I don't know what she sees in him. It breaks my heart to see her in a relationship with the loser. Sigh!

Pat

good morning! My oldest boy Jim came in to town last night. He's going to be home for 2 weeks. I was supposed to go back with him when he left. I need to just stop whining about it. Gramma is still sleeping. poor thing. she is in a lot of pain! I'm going to the dr. she used to go to to sign medical release papers so I can at least get her some help.

Jeanine...we couldn't even get our garden in this year. Mark put in some things, but for the most part it has just been to wet. We had downpours for 16 straight days. Our basement flooded for the 1st time in 30 yrs. I didn't want a garden any. I have no interest in canning anymore. I told Mark just a few things so we can have something fresh.

Trisha...good to hear your able to enjoy your garden.

i'm running in to town this morning. I hope you all have a great day. I'm still trying to look for "normalcy". It'll come eventually I know.

Yes in that we have "free" healthcare.. we do pay for it indirectly though our taxes though...so we have to wait our turn in the priority list etc etc...If I had medical insurance I could go private but I don't so I guess I will have to wait until I get called...
I did have a thought though..(happens occasionally).....maybe the letter I got yesterday is just a cursory letter to inform me that I am on the waiting list ..be it urgent or otherwise...we shall see..

Hey Rhonda, so sorry for your predicament. Does it have to do with your healthcare in New Zealand? I am just curious as they would not let that long of a time go on in the states. Anytime I have had to have a MRI, surgery, whatever, it is done very quickly. I have heard of this before - my cousin lives in England and had a heck of a time getting a test done. She had to wait 4 months where we in the states would have been seen within a week. Definitely some differences in healthcare!
