Okay, just lost one post. I'll try to recoup and move on.

Kelly, I hope it doesn't take anything major to fix your computer. We do become quite dependent on the technology. I have a Tracfone; I can reach the internet on my phone, but it really eats up the minutes.

GmaWof3llc, welcome. This was an entirely different venue than what I've experienced before also, but it has been worth the time. I've been here nearly 1 1/2 years. I'm not down as much as I would have liked, but I'm not where I was--AND it's free!!

Julbel, nice to have you with us. Long ago I passed the mid-50 mark--but I'm sticking around anyway. Change is not always easy, but it is possible and you can find support and encouraagement here.

Liba, enjoy your time with family. I know how precious that time can be!

Liznc1, I'm glad you found us! Are you tracking your food? If not, I would suggest you start. I find it helpful and an important part of being accountable to myself.

Cindy, they gave me a shot to deaden the area before the cortisone shot. I felt a little burn with the first one but nothing at all with the cortisone. I was waiting for the cortisone when he said that I could relax my hand a bit. To tell the truth, I haven't felt that much difference yet in the trigger finger.

Rose, sorry to hear about the garage door and I hope your funk goes away! It isn't fun not to feel good!

Rhonda, I hope that your thighs are pain free now. I believe sometimes there's neither rhyme nor reason for some of our aches and pains.

Jeanine, I hope you are feeling better too. Somehow the work goes on regardless of how we feel...the pile just gets deeper. Take care, my friend.

Merri, I'm glad to hear that the cortisone shots helped you.

Pam, great job on the weight loss!!

Lailas, I hope you enjoyed your nap.

Stella's sleeping on the sofa. I don't usually have her on Fridays, but her parents are out finishing up the shopping for a cookout they're having tomorrow evening for Memorial Day. Stella and I went to see Epic--went to the noon show. After the movie, I took her into the diner and bought her a dish of chocolate ice cream. I don't remember how may theaters there are in the building, but I think the one we were in was the farthest from the bathrooms and, of course, Stella needed to go in the middle of the movie. I do need to figure out what I'm taking to my son's tomorrow, but it will be of a healthy nature!! Promise.

Have a pleasant evening.

Kathy

Hi all
Another dull ol day to be had in the south of Auckland NZ...I am sooooooo tired of this dull weather...I want SUN...

Our Winters are pretty mild ...down to the early 40'sovernight and ranging anywhere between late 40s and late 50s during the day...those temps are only what I experience in Auckland...further south and especially the lower half South Island of NZ it gets much colder and even snows ....

No pain in the thighs last night so indeed I will put it down to bowling...oh well a bit of pain was worth it to get the reward ..LOL

I enjoyed my walk yesterday...it was very pleasant in the sunshine......and before it clouded over...AGAIN ..LOL

Good Afternoon All Sparkers:

Dropping in on a bright and sunny day. Did an hour walk this a.m. 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., I took my 4 wheel drive walker to the grocery store. Took me about 20 minutes to get there and 20 minutes back leaving 20 minutes in the grocery store. I never realized how unfit I was since my knee replacement but I am going to hang in and do this ever 2nd day till I feel stronger. Have made arrangements for Handy Dart (pick up service from our bus service to take me to the pool) since my good bud Doris has moved to the interior of the province.

I need to get out and take time for myself again and learning how dangerous it is to walkers, especially older persons on the road,. I think I learned to hold my breath and not yell when I had the walk sign and a car would make a left hand turn infront of the walker. Everyone is in a hurry and I must be very careful and not step off the curb before I look 4 ways, seems everyone wants to beat the yellow light. Other than that all is well with me, feeling stronger and waiting for the 6moths to pass when my leg really straightens up.

Pam from GA. I understand your dilemma of having pain 24/7, many of us have had this and have learned to live, not with it, but learned to cope. I read your messages on GA and I need to go into the computer and get a good look at Georgia as I am not familiar with this state, living in Western Canada close to the Ocean and the Rocky mountains. It is beautiful here and I always like to know more about all the Sparkers and their states, etc.

Rose: Glad to hear you are having better days. Hope you get your garage door fixed at a good price. Never fails does it, just when things are going great wham , bang, but we will overcome.

Trisha; I am sorry to hear about your problems. We have a multidiscplinary program at the hospitals when persons with chronic pain come in on a week program to have al their health and med problems reviewed. They have pharmacists who oversee the meds, social workers to look at home and other problem's, psychiatrists (we hate that word) to see if there is an underlying problem that exacerbates the chronic pain and other professionals to try and sort out the whole problem. I wish you the best and trust your problems will be resolved.

Jannine: Do you have a bit of vertigo or is it an allergy? Hope you are feeling better.

Rhonda: Am going to get my leg examined and see if they can fit me with a graduated compression stocking. I sure would like to get this fixed before the heat of summer gets here as my leg swells more at that time.

Kelly: Looking forward to hearing from you once your computer is fixed.

All Sparkers: Thanks for the wonderful messages, enjoy them and enjoy the sharing.

I am a bit tired so I am going out on the balcony and see if I can get 40 winks, don;t usually sleep in the afternoon but to-day after that walk I think I deserve it.

Take care.

Lailas

Hello everyone...Wow! What's going on with everyone today? Seems like a lot of you are sick.

Pam...I know it's a struggle for you to get around. I know what you mean...somethings are just better and easier if we just do things ourselves instead of hubby's. Working out, although uncomfortable at times for you and others that have chronic conditions, in the end are very good for you. You sound like you have a very good attitude about taking care of yourself. I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis, and facet arthropathy. It's all painful, but I feel worse if I don't at least do some kind of exercise. Sometimes I don't feel like it, but I do it anyway. It relieves pain combined with meds. YAAAY for you. 2 lbs down is excellent!

Jeanine...You and Pam, and some of the others sound like you are 'sharing" the same illness...hmm, is it something in the air?? LOL! At least you got some rest last night. You must've needed it that's for sure. Here...I'll share this with all of you...get better wishes and a hug!

Kelly...LOL! Oh my gosh your so right! I hate using my phone for this site. Not so bad for the boards but having to use it for tracking is a real pain!

Rhonda...maybe you over did it bowling for so long. I'd take runner up though any day. Beats last place! It's a fun night out and being out amongst people.

I have no idea what to fix for dinner. I just don't feel like cooking. I'm not even done cleaning out the garage yet. Maybe Mark will just stop at a drive thru after work. I'm not laughing! It could happen. Well, maybe a day or 2 after hell freezes over. I'm gonna call him. Have a sweet day everyone

Good day Friday everyone! emoticon

For all of you (Jeanine and others) who are experiencing those dizzy feelings I too was having that yesterday but I just assumed that it was allergies.Maybe, there is some kind of virus going around.

In spite of the dizziness, I had to do some errands and fortunately the weather was very pleasant for the end of May in Georgia. However, as usual, it is just so hard for me to get around, even with my cane. I go through this every time I need to get out of the house. It is so laborious for me to move that I often just say "to heck with it". However, I felt that I couldn't burden my husband with some of the things that I needed to do in person so I pushed myself out the door. Someday, when I get one of those scooters, the sky will be the limit for me! In the meantime, I am often amazed that I am not more "nutty" than I already am because of how much I stay at home but I find plenty to do here on the computer (play online games, be a part of a weight loss community such as this, pay my bills, SHOP or just catch up on family and friends on social networks) and then I do my own housework as well as cooking (which I love!) so I actually keep quite busy. Down time for me is watching a few t.v. programs (maybe 2 hours per day at most) and my husband and I do a weekly Bible study on Sunday afternoons that we both enjoy doing.

When I finish posting this, I am going to go out on our open porch and sweep the remaining layer of spring pollen (it is the bright yellow green that you see on Easter lilies and it blankets our ground here in GA this time of year until it rains and gets washed away) then measure for new cushions for our chairs. That is my present to myself for all of the hard work I have done in the past several months on improving my health (and hopefully my disposition). emoticon

Rhonda, I think your thighs hurting is probably from your bowling. WTG on the prizes though.

Trisha, so sorry to hear about your pain. I have had chronic pain since 1993 (20 years now) and I have had some really low points during that time but what has helped more than anything is just taking it one day at a time, trying different remedies that other people suggest, do those until they are no longer effective and then try something else. Doctors won't do shots for me (something that was tried 15-20 years ago) because of further damage to the tissues surrounding my joints. I was told I have the skeleton of a 75 year old woman 10 years ago and I had just turned 50 at the time. So, I guess, that makes me 85 this year (I will be 60 in July). Only surgery can help me now and even that will have some limitations at what it can and it can't do.

In the meantime, dry heat really helps a lot with deep muscular pain. Icing helps with acute inflammation flare-ups. Rearranging my environment so that I don't have to reach too high or too low. Buying and wearing clothes that are easy to slip on and off so I don't have to use my hands too much. Using ambulatory devices like canes, etc. (I am saving up for my own scooter) also help. Frequent rest even during periods of activity. I have been getting a lot of catalogs (how they found me I have no idea) that have a lot of "aids" that I have bought and tried. Some have worked well and others have not as well but anything that can help me live my life with more quality, I will bite at. Please do not be discouraged. You are in my prayers.

Okay, the good news for this week is that I have lost another 2 lbs! Yippee! Since January 1 of this year, I have lost 33.6 lbs. That is the most that I have ever lost in one stretch in a very long time.(From my highest in 2010, I have lost 68.8 lbs) I credit sending my daily meal plan to my food sponsor every day since January 30th as the #1 reason why I have stayed on track coupled with doing what I can physically: strength and toning using light hand weights and doing some seated workouts (following dvds that I have bought). The more active I am the more I lose so it is just a matter of pacing myself and keeping it up.

Liz, I just want to say that you might try riding a bike (if you can) since you can also watch scenery (and watch for cars too) while you are riding or try any kind of water activity. I feel like when I am in water (pool, etc.) I feel like a kid again. However, I used to be significantly more active than I am now and I have still managed to lose weight this time even though I am not doing a lot of strenuous exercising. Getting started is usually the hardest part.

Well, I am part of another group where we are "challenged" to use this site. One of the weekly challenges is finding a recipe here, making it and then reporting on it. I am making the Slow Cooker Apple Butter Pork Loin tonight for dinner. I love to cook but I usually tweak any recipe. The main thing that I am going to do with this one is not use the slow cooker since it just takes too long.

For you kiwis "down under", isn't this your winter right now? What kind of weather is your winters like? I have seen so many travelogues about your "neck of the woods" and it is so pretty there. Maybe, someday, I will have the good fortune of visiting there.

Well, enough about me. For those of you who are looking forward to a three day weekend, as my hubby is, I hope that it is a restful and safe one. For those who have to work, take care.

Pam emoticon

Cindy and Rose, I had a cortisone shot once up in my shoulder and it took care of the pain almost right.

Jeanine, sure glad you're feeling better today.

Didn't get to post at all yesterday but I did read everyone else's post. I left work early dizzy and not feeling well. Brian came to pick me up. When I got home I put on my sweat pants, sweat shirt and crawled under the blankets. I woke up an hour and a half later with my teeth chattering. My supper consisted of two slices of toast at 8 pm and back in bed by 9:30. Today I'm feeling much better, back at work but I'm SO far behind. I'll try to be back later today!!

Rose - I think there is something going around. Get lots of rest! Reo will watch over you while you sleep, LOL.

Hey all
I went to Indoor Bowls Last night ...and it was Mixed Pairs Championship...the skip I was drawn with won 3 games to qualify for post section...and as there were only 2 teams who qualified ...the final was played last night instead of next week which usually happens...Anyways we were beaten in the final...I didn't play well at all because I got terrible lower back pain and basically forgot how to bowl LOL...but that's okay ,,cos as we got Runners up we get $10 on Prize night in November for our efforts...so so far this season I have had a win and a runner up.....that amounts to $25 in prize money cos we get $15 for a win..

This morning in the early hours I was awakened by awful aching thighs... I have not had that before ..so am a bit concerned...will see how I go tonight ...hopefully it was just a one-off..

Hi everyone,

Today was a better day at work. Nothing broke. No one snarled. It was really busy. The court annex is right across the road from our lot and probably about 50% of our business comes from people going across to small claims court. It finally clicked that we were extra busy this afternoon because they were probably cranking out the cases as quickly as possible today so they could slide away early tomorrow for the holiday weekend. That means it will probably be very slow by mid-afternoon tomorrow. I'd rather be busy. Had to giggle at one point today. When a man was paying, he joked "it's free today, right?" I popped back with "no, that's only on the second Thursday of every week." He had a woman with him and you could see the wheels turning very slowly....then she said "wait a minute! There's only one Thursday in every week!" (Duh!) lol He told her "yeah, I caught that one all ready."

We had rain off and on all day today and it's really cold! Remember when I was whining about my a/c not working (it's fixed now) at the beginning of the week? Well now it's turned off and the windows are closed because it's supposed to be down in the 40's at night all weekend and 60's for highs until Monday. Oh well. Good temperatures for working in my yard on Saturday.

When Ron came home from work last night he found the garage door caved in at the bottom 2 panels in the right corner. It was ok when we went to work and then we came home to this suprise. Haven't a clue as to how it happened. So now we have the workers who installed it two years ago coming out on Tuesday morning to check it out and let us know how much it's going to cost to have it repaired. In the mean time we can't open the door. Never seems to end.

I've been feeling kinda funky off and on for the past two days. I woke up in the night feeling ill and took about an hour to fall back asleep again. I slept late today. Reo was hovering over me, waiting for me to show some signs of life and greeted me with joyful meows. Don't know what's going on. Blood sugar level's fine, but I feel woozy, no energy, and ache all over. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Right now it's getting late so I'd better be heading for bed. Have a good night/day everyone.

Rose

good evening everyone...Nice to meet all of the newcomers. Your really going to enjoy it here! We support each other in just about every way possible. Just make yourself comfortable.

Westchick...your winter season is close by. I'm not familiar with your winters. Do you get bad snowstorms?

Kathy...cortisone shots hurt! I got one in my wrist for carpal tunnel. I completely embarrassed myself...I yelled...loudly!!! I was lucky. I was the last patient they had before lunch. No one was in the waiting area. i'm sure they would've heard. LOL. I hate shots of any kind. I get panicy too.

Kelly...OH! I hate computers problems. I don't mind using my phone when I have to but using it to track on SP is a complete nusance, but I had to do it when our computer was down.

Liba...lovely! I know your really going to enjoy your holiday week end. YAAAY!

My prayers are with those that have been affected by the tornado's.

i'm going to sit and watch HLN with Donn for a bit. She's totally obsessed with Jodi Arias trial. I tease her all the time about that. I don't get it...we don't even know her...what gives??
Have a sweet night everyone. Talk to you tomorrow.

Hi to all my Spark friends.

It started out to be a cloudy cold day and ended up being a sunny cold day. I was glad when the sun came out. It'll be a little warmer tomorrow - at least in the high 50's. Today it was only in the 40's.

Well, I went and got my foot checked today from my surgery last week. The doctor was very pleased with the results and told me I was a good patient because I followed directions! lol

I also got on my new recumbent bike today for the first time. It felt good to be able to exercise again.

Have a wonderful night/day everyone!

Hi, I'm Liz and I'm new to this board but not really new to SP. I've been doing this for almost 2 months and haven't lost anything. Anyway, I'm searching for a workout routine that I like well enough to stick with. I'm really pretty good about eating healthy but I'm not about exercise and I feel like that's why I'm not losing.

I'm 62 and I hate to exercise. I'd much rather read a good book. So, I ordered an Ipod that has enough memory for music AND audio books. Maybe if I take my book on a walk, I'll be more willing to walk!

Good morning! I am new to this site, not new to dieting....I recently read to stop trying so hard, and try something different. So that is what I am doing here...something different. I feels odd to be on msg boards but it is different.

I am Okay and I am on my way!

Just about time to turn in for the night. A storm is moving in and I hope we get some rain with it. It's getting dry around here, so an inch or two would be welcome.

Carol, I went to the doctor today and my BP was exactly the same as yours. I felt so good--of course, it was the hand surgeon, not my family physician.

Jo, welcome. I'm Kathy, a retired school teacher. I still have much to lose; from my highest weight, I'm down just over 75 #, about 40 # in the last 16 months. I live just south of Wichita, KS in Haysville.

Welcome, Pam. I'm right here in Tornado Alley! We were hit by an F4 in Haysville in 1999, but personally the only loss we suffered was the food in the refrigerator and freezer because we were without power for just over a week.

Cindy, I love my Keurig!!

From the news, it appears that a lot of area cars were damaged Sunday by the hail that accompanied the tornadoes--doing more damage than the tornadoes. FYI, Wichita Public Schools is building safe rooms in schools--something done right!

I did get a cortisone shot in my hand today. The doctor said it might take care of the trigger finger, might help some, might not help at all. Time will tell. If it doesn't completely take care of it, he wants to see me again in 3-4 weeks.

Pleasant night,
Kathy

Good day (or night) wherever you might be, everyone! (that is a mouthful) emoticon

Jeanine, again THANK YOU for taking the time to be so thorough in your answers. I really truly appreciate that. It helps to see another person's perspective as well. Unfortunately, I bought two big bottles of chromium as well! OY! At least it wasn't some prescription medication. Those are much more costly. I am going to give it a rest for now. I didn't realize that there was chromium in certain foods and the foods you listed I do eat on a regular basis.

Well, I am going to try and keep up the "cardio" (getting up during the commercials) as much as I can moving forward. I am seeing positive results on the scales (I weigh every morning and have for nearly 2 years now) so I will go until I am pooped. Given my limited mobility any movement is better than nothing. emoticon

Glad to hear that most of you have been able to get outdoors and enjoy the warmer weather. We are getting early summer weather here in Georgia. The only thing that we don't like about it is the humidity which really makes me so stiff when I am out in it. I move like a snail and that is a snail that needs to wear one of those "slow moving vehicles" signs on too. emoticon lol

Well, when I do housework "these days" I have to break it up into bits and do about 15-20 minutes at a time. It seems like it takes "forever" but the upside, I am less inclined to make a mess, if I know that it is going to take that much longer to clean it up. emoticon

Not much else happening here. Hubby's work has slowed down but he is now getting used to finding things to do away from home. He knows anyway that if he hangs around here too much I will put him to work on my "honey do" list. emoticon Ahhhh, the peace and quiet.....

emoticon Cush and emoticon Jocin on the 40 lbs "gone forever!"

Take care everyone, stay safe, Pam emoticon

Hello everyone. cool! we've got some more newcomers. I hope your grabbed something to drink...hopefully you have a restroom near by. We like to talk...A LOT...I love this board. All of this board is in my humble opinion, the best of the very best. Your gonna get support like no other i'm aware of. Yes! We're that good!! hehe

Trisha...well, let's see if this time the pain pills do something to help you get rid of that pesky pain. geez oh man, how you struggle!

Hi Westchick. Not been posting any new photos either huh? I think i'm at the alotted space, if I remember correctly.

Hold please...I need to refill my coffee cup...ok, thanks for waiting. I loove my Keurig! ? (that was supposed to be a funny)! noo groans! lol

Rose...haha. I could so see you talking a bite right out of that dentist. I'm with you with that one! I definately would be doing the same thing! I so agree. Oklahoma needs a lot of prayer. My heart just breaks for them. I can't imagine what those poor folks are having to endure right now.

Rhonda..YAAY! you got your appointment made. It's a bit away but it'll be here before you know it. You've been struggling with that leg for awhile now. I wonder if he'll call you in if they get any cancellations between now and then.

Pat...i'm counting down the days right along with you!!

Jockinchington..I'm so glad you stopped by. WOW! 40 LBS? That's awesome! We are really good about supporting each other here. I think you'll notice that as you go along.

Pam...sometimes I do some extra work out myself during commcercials...or even while watching really. Depends on how much activity i've done during the day.

Jeanine...I'm debating on whether or not I should start redoing the kitchen counters or just wait til I get back from N.M. Hmm...did I tell you i'm going to N.M. for about a month, month and a half. I'll get to babysit Tyler. Jim gets him every summer. I'm really looking forward to it. I have to say i'm a little uncomfortable leaving Donn for so long. She's in remission, but...well, you know. I don't want to say the thought that I have in my head right now. I keep telling myself she'll be fine. I am really looking forward to being a hands on "Neena". I've already been praying on it.

I guess I better get off here and get dinner going. I leave for prayer meeting pretty soon. Have a sweet night everybody

Cindy

I only have a moment. Whenever there is a stat holiday in a pay week my time is at a premium.

Pam - I've never taken chromium so I had to look it up. See following paragraph:

Is chromium safe?

The chromium found in foods will not hurt you. But taking excessive chromium supplements can lead to stomach problems and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Too much chromium from supplements can also damage the liver, kidneys, and nerves, and it may cause irregular heart rhythm. But side effects from taking chromium supplements are rare.

I'd also read the following:

Is chromium right for you? When it comes to dietary chromium, the answer is yes; whole grains, nuts, broccoli, and green beans, which contain the mineral, are all healthful foods. But before you opt for supplements, talk with your doctor.

Since you only need trace amounts of the mineral try the suggestions above first.

I'd back off on the chromium and maybe introduce it later in a smaller amount. Maybe. What you eat in carbs per meal I have for the day. I find that the more carbs I eat during the day the hungrier I feel. I'm not a big fan of the diabetes diet because it lumps everyone in together and we aren't. I cannot maintain good blood sugars on that diet. It might be good for a person who can put in 20-30 minutes of good heart pumping cardio five times a week but most of us can't do it. We just can't burn off all that excess carb calories, etc. and then we put on weight which causes our bodies to not be able to process the insulin our pancreas produces and makes that cycle still worse.

It is process and a bit of trial and error. You will find that the more exercise you get in the lower your blood sugars will be as well. Good for you getting out of that wheelchair. I've heard other stories like that too and I think it is fantastic. If you can't walk (and many can't) then finding an alternate activity is great! I used to work in a nursing home where this guy who had rheumatoid arthritis so bad you couldn't even touch him and he was screaming in pain. I truthfully don't think it was quite that bad, he was just 'anticipating' the pain because we hardly touched him. My grandpa had it as well and always kept trying to move his joints in spite of the pain.

I wish you LOTS of success in your journey girl! I don't think 100 is too low, I just think your body is used to higher levels and can't handle anything lower yet although you don't want to really get too much lower than that anyway.

Done with my rambling for now, be back in a bit.

Jeanine

We woke up to some rain this morning. We do need it tho...Just a nice light rain...

Not much going on here right now. My DH is still trying to find the right security camera for our house. It looks like he might have it right now. We just can't have the wireless kind. Too many things try to control it...Like the remote for the TV LOL...His pretend barking dog..When the dog would bark, the cameras would go off....

Now we are watching for the Weber grill go on sale for the Memorial Day sale. If not, we do have a 10% coupon and did you ladies know that you can actually use a Military card for a 10% discount too?

Hi everyone,

I'm so glad this day is nearing an end! It's been one of "those" kind of days....you know, when your first mistake is crawling out of bed in the morning and your second mistake is not crawling right back in bed? I was constantly dropping things all day long...which was a real treat when I was grocery shopping. I tested this morning and my blood sugar level was fine, but I felt like I was in la-la land all day. At work a customer asked for a receipt. When I started to hit the receipt key, my finger slipped to the wrong key and locked up the whole computer. Couldn't get it to work, no matter what I tried, so had to use my brain to figure the fees until someone could come out and wave his magic fingers over the computer and bring it back to life. When I have to run to the bank to get change I try to do it at a time when I'm between rushes. I hang a sign in the window letting people know that I'll be right back, but this time someone was waiting when I returned. I could see she was really po-ed about having to wait. I tried to apologize for the wait and explain that I had to run to the bank for change before it closed, but she just snarled "I don't care! Take the money!" Well, all righty then.....thank you very much and have a nice day.

Does anyone here have friends or family in the Oklahoma City area? My heart goes out to them for all the damage done by the tornado, especially the school hit dead on. The morning paper had three pages with pictures of the wreckage. Definitely in my prayers tonight.

Trisha - I hope your health issues improve now that you're off the morphine patches. You may be right about the patches causing the problems. They may have been too strong for you.

Jokinchington - welcome! I'm Rose and live in northeast Indiana with my husband Ron, 2 daughters, 2 granddaughters, a brand new grandson and great-grandson, born 4 days apart, as well as 4 step-grandchildren and 3 step-greatgrandchildren. And also a very sweet, spoiled cat. Feel free to join in our discussions and tell us about yourself. It looks like you've already come a long ways with loosing weight. Great job! You said you're traveling this week and were concerned about eating healthy meals along the way. Have you considered taking along healthy snacks like fresh fruit and vegies?

Carol and Cindy - I had braces on my teeth for 2 years in high school, followed by a retainer for a year in high school and a year in collage. I had to go in for adjustments every 3 weeks so I soon learned to get used to the dentist. I don't mind them so much, but from what Liba's told us about dental practice in her country, I can understand why she dreads going to the dentist. If anyone tried to drill my teeth without an anesthetic and basically told me to just suck it up, I'd have to be biting a hunk out of him/her.

Well, it's almost time for the season finale of NCIS and Reo's been fussing for her kitty treat (like I said....spoiled!) so I guess I'd better wrap this up. Have a good night/day everyone.

Rose

Good day or evening everyone!

I read all of your posts but again I apologize if I am not doing detailed personals right now. I am just trying to learn who is from where, etc.

Trish: it is none of my business, but as a person who has had chronic pain, I was wondering how you ended up having to take morphine. I guess, I would worry about it becoming habit forming. Is it possible you are itching because you are getting too much dosage of that?
Are you the cake decorator? I took classes for that many years ago and I was considering on doing what you are doing and for the very reasons you are frustrated about is why I didn't. I do love making beautiful cakes though. It was so relaxing and fulfilling.

Thank you Rose and Jeanine for your advice regarding blood sugars etc. My hand start to shake when my blood glucose gets to 100 and I would like it to be lower but I am wondering what other symptoms I would have if I pushed for that. I also find that I feel better overall when I have eat a lot less carbs. I try to average 60-75 grams of carbs per meal as the American Diabetes Assoc recommends. I bought some chromium to take to curb my appetite but after one my hands were shaking and my blood glucose was 100. Now, I am not sure if I should continue to take them. What do either of you think?

I just heard on our national news that the U.S. has 1000 tornadoes a year and the second country--Canada--only has 100 per year. I am wondering why we get this particular weather pattern. What is different about our topography or geography? For any of you who have been affected by these storms, my prayers are with you.

Well, today I got into my community garden plot. It is small by most home gardens standards but it gives me an opportunity to get some fresh organic produce by the "sweat of my brow". I am an apartment dweller so this is the 'best that I can do' for now. I used to have a huge vegetable and fruit garden when I owned a home. I am hoping that someday that will happen again. We'll see...

Tonight is the finale of Dances With The Stars and I decided that rather than sit for an entire two hours last night that during the commercials I would get up and do some kind of physical movement. Well, at one point during the programming, there were 9 commercials in a row. I was pooped out and "begging" for the program to come back on. emoticon

My NSV (non scale victory) that I would like to share today is that I quickly grabbed a pair of walking shorts to wear to our garden without noticing what size they were. They were comfortable but when I took them off I so happened to see the size (since I needed to wash them) and, much to my surprise, it was one size smaller than I have been wearing these past couple of months! emoticon All those floor exercises are starting to pay off.

How ever it was rough day for my RA today. I was really creeping along as I moved from one spot to another. Getting back indoors where I can control the humidity and temperature does help but this was one thing that I was hoping would be different as I lost the weight but it hasn't worked out that way yet. I still feel like 101 some days because I am so stiff. However, if I hadn't been working out, maybe, I would be back in my wheelchair. You just don't know. emoticon So, I will keep this up because at least I am giving my joints some much needed Range of Motion movement.

For everyone else, have a blessed day. I am learning who you are each time I come on here.

Pam emoticon

Good evening everyone. I am still cleaning out the garage. What a disaster it is. Mark doesn't know it but I thru out a ton of junk. Stuff he hasn't used for many years. It was all grimy and disgusting. He'll never miss it im sure.

Jeanine...well now, you might be right! You had a big day yesterday yourself! Calories burners though! Nice!

Carol...you sound like me. I panic going to the dr. or dentist. I can't stand it. I'm over due for a clean and check. Im gonna have to do it before I leave for N.M. I suppose.

Kelly...that is so nice going for a drive with Guy. But, doesn't he ever get tired of driving? I'm guessing he's all settled in to his new job by now.

Liba...You sound so overwhelmed my dear friend. I'm sure it's tough dealing with everything going on with you hubby. That just makes things even harder. Do you have any kind of support...from family or friends?

Trisha...I can hear the frustration in your "voice". Between not feeling well and your cake mess, you sound like your just ready for fall apart. I can't say I don't blame you! Geez.

I'm going to sit in front of the boob tube for a bit. I'm showered already ready for bed. I'm just tired and rather sore. No flare up but just sore. Have a sweet evening

I turned 55 in January and by Feb 6 was finally committed to losing weight. I am doing okay so far, still have about 40 pounds more to go, but am more than halfway there. I am traveling this week so it's going to be a challenge staying within calorie goals, but today was okay, just have to be careful and look for the skinny menus everywhere. Hope everyone has a great day!

Greetings, all. I'm still catching up with things so haven't been on much. I feel like I am letting things slip a bit in the eating/fitness depts. so I am refocusing. I find if I don't track my food, I let myself eat more and/or more junk food so I need to be aware of that and track everything... My son and new DIL are back and had a very nice time in Mexico for their honeymoon. Their 1BR condo at a resort was our gift to them. They are back to work and settling into their new home. I haven't talked to them much and still no pictures-maybe this weekend...I have some major dental work being done tomorrow and, since I am a baby with dentists, I am being sedated for it. J has to take off work and drive me because I will be very out-of-it. I have done this before and he says I am 'worse than a stubborn drunk' when he gets me home. haha I don't remember any of it (which is why I do it) so it's funny to me to hear about it. They gave me my meds and instructions on Monday and took my blood pressure. I am usually on the high end of normal range. This time my BP was 111/64! She said it was excellent and that she could tell I had lost weight. said the weight loss helped my BP. However, I also work out 5-6 times a week and I am sure that helps too! In fact my BP is borderline 'athletic'! It was nice to see another tangible, positive result of weight loss.

Have a wonderful week! -C

PS- Rhonda-I found the weight you lost. Come and get it!

Good morning everyone.
Please all be safe and healthy :-)

Goodness the tornadoes in Oklahoma were shocking to watch on our tvs in NZ and the damage done to so many homes now gone.
The poor kiddies at their school, who were in a safe place and yet they still died due to water pipes bursting and then flooding their safe space.
I hope all architects learn from this when designing buildings.

Kathy: I hope you are ok.

Trisha: Goodness I do hope you start to feel a lot better real soon.

Yesterday (NZ Tuesday) our weather was also shocking and out Rhonda's way (in South Auckland there were (Tornado) Water funnels out by the Auckland International Airport - luckily they didn't hit land... as it would have then been a tornado too.

Kelly I am still waiting for appointment with cardiologist although I feel much better after speaking with neurologist yesterday now I know it is not anything like I feared saw my own Dr this morning changed me off the morphine patches and back on to my old pain killers the ones I took before they changed me the time before I was much better on those so we will see what happens now I personally think the morphine patches had a lot to do with what was happening to me as it all started when I started on them,

Kelly, Oh how I wish my DH would like to drive. His neck gets sore so quickly. We do go down by the lake here and walk around some tho. Most of the big boats are in the water now and a lot of them from IL too....I guess we can use their money here in WI too LOL

We had some rain with lightning and thunder, but nothing serious with the rain...Our yards and plants can use it...Things seem to get so dry so fast lately...

Hi everyone,

Wow! It's hot and humid......and our a/c is on the fritz. Bleh! We turned it on last night and it cooled down the house nicely but froze up in the night. We have a friend who repairs air conditioners and he was going to stop by and give it a shot of freon (spelling?) which it needs every spring, but he didn't make it. It's supposed to be much worse tomorrow....70% chance of rain with up to 60 mph winds and hail, so I hope he can make it here since the windows will definately be closed all day.

I tried to pull weeds yesterday, but it was just too hot. Had to give it up and come back in the house.....besides, the ground is so dry that the weeds are just snapping off, so it was a wasted effort. Can't believe the ground is this dry after all the rain we've had this spring. It's supposed to rain for the next three days and be cooler next weekend, so maybe I can get some work done in the yard next Saturday.

Carol - most of my brothers and sisters were 17 or 18 when they married, so I was an old maid waiting until I was 22. lol My brothers and sisters are a lot older than me though. My youngest sister is 11 years older than me. My dad was a widower when he married my mom and they had me, so I'm her only child and his 13th (and youngest) child. I tried to make a count of my nieces and nephews by sending out a request for names and dates of birth. About 3/4 responded and of that response the count was 226. (No, my finger didn't stutter....that's 226). Of course that was 10 years ago and we breed like rabbits (obviously) so I'm sure the count is much higher by now. The sad part of being a member of such a large family is that they're scattered all over the country so I've never met most of them and probably never will.

Trisha - didn't you have problems a couple of years ago with another medication making you itch a lot? I hope you remember the names of these meds so you can list them as allergies and won't have them prescribed to you again.

Kelly - it looks like you went through some beautiful country on your Sunday drive. Had to giggle a bit at Guy taking a busman's holiday. He drives all week for a living, so what does he do on his day off? Take a drive. I'm glad you had a nice time together.

Jeanine - Ron is about the same health-wise. I worry about him working at the track this summer. He's taking on so much more work this year on top of working his regular job. He's all ready wearing out. I'm afraid he's going to be totally burned out by the end of the summer. I'm trying to think of a way to convince him that this should be his last year at the track, but I don't think he will listen to me right now. I think I'll have to wait until the end of the summer. Maybe by mid-September he will be ready to listen to reason.

Liba - I can understand that you're probably having trouble keeping up with all the work in your garden this year. You've had a lot of health issues this winter and probably haven't regained your strength yet. Also, it's a sad fact of life that we can't do as much when we're older that we could when we were young. I was 29 when we moved into this house and it was so easy for me to work out in the yard all day long, but now after a couple of hours I have to quit for the day. I can't get down on my knees anymore. I have to just plop down and sit while I'm working and "butt-walk" from one spot to the next.....if you know what that is. Then I have to find something solid to hold on to and pull myself up when I want to stand up again. Lexie was with me a few weeks ago when I was working in the yard. I was complaining that the yard was getting bigger over the years and she said "no, the yard's not getting bigger, gramma. You're just old." lol Over the years I've gradually replaced the flowers with shrubs and flowering bushes. They're still pretty, but a lot less work to care for them. I have just a couple small spots where I plant annuals every spring.

Pam - I'm pre-diabetic too, from a family of diabetics. My blood sugar level is usually in the 90's or low 100's and my doctor is fine with that. He was having me test twice a day, but at my last visit he was so happy with the results of my labs that he said once a day was enough, unless I was not feeling right. I've learned over the years to recognise the signs when I should test and eat something.

Well, it's getting late, so I suppose I should be heading for bed....if I can sleep in this hot, stuffy house. Have a good night/day everyone.

Rose

Driedout, at nearly 68, I can appreciate your journey. There are some videos that can be done sitting in a chair, others target specific areas. At this point in my life, it's not critical who's doing the exercises as long as I find them helpful. Some of them have successful stories too.

Trish, I'm glad your itching has subsided. Your cakes fascinate me, and I wish I were brave enough to do more experimenting. Milky chocolate? What's difficult about that kind?

I took advantage of the rain-soaked ground and pulled some weeds before Stella showed up this morning. She must've had a late night because DS2 carried her in, and she fell asleep on the sofa.

We went to Newton this morning. My cousin and her youngest daughter are visiting from Las Vegas area, so we'll go to visit for a couple of hours.

It looks like Wichita dodged a bullet with the tornado yesterday. Evidently several touched down in outlying areas with minimal damage but some serious street flooding in Wichita. There's still moderate risk today of severe weather, but we're not in the bull's eye like we were yesterday.

Thanks for all the positive thoughts and prayers.

Kathy

Pam - Hi and welcome back. Where abouts do you live? I'm watching the aftermath of the tornado in Oklahoma and praying for safety for you all. I am diabetic and find that my blood sugars are much more stable with a high protein, low carb diet. My blood sugars spike and drop when I eat a higher amount of carbs. I do take pills and find that if I have a high protein breakfast I am less likely to have a low before lunch than if I had a high carb breakfast. I feel best when I have between 50 - 70 grams of carbs a day. Does that help you any? We aren't all the same so what works for me may not work for you. Here in Canada we measure our blood sugars a little bit different than you do down there. When you get your A1C done (I get mine done once every three months) they measure it as 6.2 or 7.5, etc. My fasting blood sugars are typically between 6.0 and 7.0 and my last A1C was 6.2. I'd like to get that number closer to 5.4 which is my next goal besides losing weight, lol.

Sue Elm Grove - That is right, I remember you saying something about foot surgery. I hope your recovery is swift!! Has the bike arrived yet?

Trisha - Awwww, sorry to hear about the cake crisis. I can't imagine working with a substance like that. Did she at least like what you did manage to get done with it?

Cindy - I'll see your busy day and raise you. . .well, who knows what (poker humor anyone?). I can just ditto the busy day, LOL.I finally stopped at 5 and Brian said 'boy are you going to be sore tomorrow.' Whose waiting for tomorrow I answer! I'm going to take some ibuprofen soon and then get started on the fruit crisp I was going to make yesterday and didn't. Getting by without too much pain yourself?

Rhonda - I think we are going to have ice cream on our fruit crisp. I make it without sugar (use sweetener) so I think I'll indulge with ice cream, lol.

Westchick - I'll have to look it up, thanks. I think it's exciting to have a new 'toy' to play with!

I'm tired. Going to call it an early night. Just need to make the fruit crisp first.

Good night and stay safe all of you in tornado alley. Just a scary time of year!

Jeanine

Nope Westchick...I am waiting on the smear result and if I don't hear anything then nothing is amiss in that region... my doctor will try to hurry the specialist along re an appointment and also an appointment for the ultrasound... all is in the works ..so it is just a matter of waiting...which should not be too long...

Good morning everyone, hoping you are all having a wonderful evening/day :-)

Rhonda: Have you been to see the doctor yet and get some blood tests done?????

Jeanine: The Fuji S4500 is a step up from the small pocket size digi cameras... before going up to the bigger DSLR...
So the Fujifilm S1600 and S4500 is SLR without having all the lenses that Canon and Nikon have... more Compaq... great cameras... but also a lot cheaper to buy...
So it will be good to have when I don't need the huge Flash unit as the Fugi doesn't come with that, just has the pop up flash.... also ideal when I go out hiking in the bush as it takes double AA batteries... and so much lighter to carry too... Google search to see the difference between the cameras. Fujifilm S4500 & Canon 600D

Good morning Sparklers....
Looks like another wettish day to be had on the south side of Auckland NZ...
Yesterday I had a lovely walk in the sunshine which was very pleasant indeed
The rapid weight loss seems to have subsided which is good ...BUT just to make sure I had cream on my sultana bran for breakfast ...hehehe my bad.. but gee it was soooooo yummy!!! Good thing the bottle of cream is now finished so I won't have any temptation tomorrow morning

Continuing prayers for the triplets that they will be delivered healthy and at the right time for them...

good afternoon everyone.

Had a very big day today and it's still not over! Several of us from church helped a member move. I'm just gonna say...he had 2 cats...I think you'll be able to draw your own conclusions from that! WOW! I ended up just bringing the cats here. We live on a farm. At least they'll get to roam around. Poor things. I'm getting ready to continue working in the garage. I have a really long way to go before I'm finished.

Trisha...I can feel your frustration....that im sure is quite nerve racking.

I gotta get busy. Mark will be home soon. I forgot to take the meat out of the freezer for dinner. Have a sweet day.

Jeanine Milky bar is a white chocolate made by nestle it's designed at children but it has very low cocoa solids in it so you can't work it like ordinary chocolate the cake was a disaster I ended up decorating it with milky bar buttons the first cake went in the bin as I got so frustrated I was crying and threw it at the wall (temper) so had to make another just hope the customer appreciates the work I have had to do on this cake and if it's not what she wants tough it's the best I could do.....

Saw neurologist and she says she does not think it is anything to with neurology and suggests I see cardiology but she did make me feel better as I don't have to worry about brain tumor which is what was worrying me she thinks it all has to do with them messing my meds about and the morphine, so when I see my Dr in the morning I am going to ask her to stop the morphine patches and put me back on te meds I was on before, just hope she will because the morphine has to many side effects for my liking....

Jeanine, I'm doing well. I had surgery on my foot last week. I had the small toe on my right foot amputated. I've had a lot of problems with my right foot. There was an infection in the toe that went into the bone and wouldn't clear up. My doctor said this was the best solution so that the infection wouldn't spread into any other parts of my foot. I have not had any pain which I consider a blessing from God.

I'm not able to do much walking so I bought a stationary recumbent bike last week. It will be delivered today. I'm really looking forward to it so I can get back into my daily exercise.

The babies are doing well. Please continue praying for them. I'm praying now that they are delivered as close to due date as possible.

Have a great day everyone!

Good day Monday everyone!

I have read all of your posts from Sunday and I want to say "Thank You" for such a warm and inviting Welcome! It might take me awhile to keep everyone's name straight so I might not do as detailed personals for now but I will do my best to remember your names and where you all hail from.

DriedOut: I was directed by another person to check out the seated workout videos here on Sparkpeople. I have advanced arthritis (diagnosed in 1994) and I can not tolerate standing for longer than 20 minutes at a time. My current workouts are seated exercise dvds and doing strengthening and toning for my arms/shoulders, core/abs and lower body especially the muscles that support the knees.

I do have a question for any of the diabetics here. I discovered that I was "pre-diabetic" in 2010. I do not have health insurance although I do have a nursing background that is almost as old as I am so I do a lot of self-treating. I regularly test my fasting blood glucose but I was wondering what your doctors tell you is a fasting blood glucose to "shoot for"? I am finding that when I am at 100 mg/dl, my hands start to shake and I am usually feeling hungry. Recently, I returned to counting my carbs so I am eating between 60-75 grams per meal. I also find that when I keep my carbs under 220 grams per day, I struggle less with ravenous hunger. I have "heard" that "normal" is 70-90 mg/dl but I think I will have to either lose more weight or become more active to see that. Is that a realistic number for me to "aim for" at my age? I just want to make sure that I am controlling my blood glucose with my diet rather begin taking pills.

It sounds like many of you have gardens. I have a small (4'x6') garden plot as part of a community garden. It is about 2 miles from where I live so I don't get to "mess" in it as much as I would like. Right now, I am having trouble with a bunny rabbit who likes my husband's Swiss chard. I am thinking about putting a garden gnome to stand guard around those plants to scare him off. I wonder how bright bunnies are?

I have one adult daughter, age 38, who lives in Philadelphia, PA. She is not married so I do not have any grandchildren. I do have a great niece and great nephew that I enjoy listening about their 'misadventures' though. I keep in touch mostly via phone or seeing their photos on FB (it is the only reason why I have an account there).

I have been married to my husband, Paul, for nearly 11 years. We met at work. He had been a single man with no serious prospects so he wasn't sure he would even be "interested" in marriage but he tells me I won him over with my "warm personality and easygoing nature". Little did he know! emoticon I had been unhappily married before and I know what I didn't like. Paul was just the opposite. He is the kindest, gentlest and silly person I have ever met or known. We tease each other all the time but when I need to cry, he has a ready and willing shoulder as well.

I used to do a lot of walking for exercise (and I even hiked in the Rocky Mountains in 1992) and I agree that is my favorite, especially to get out on a nice cool spring morning but I simply can't at this time. I walk with a cane and even that is a struggle for more than 10 feet at a time. So, my outdoor physical activity is very limited at this time and has been for a couple of years. I manage to keep myself busy around here and so far I have not tried to climb the walls. God graces us in many special ways. He has me.

Well, again, I will try to keep up with all of you busy "Sparkies" from all over the world and drop in again tomorrow or Wednesday. Again, thanks for the warm welcomes.

Take care, Pam emoticon

Merri - I'm trying to figure out how my response to your post got posted under yours. Really strange. I thought the post was lost but just buried under other posts.

Cindy - I'm glad you had a nice birthday! We are hoping for a decent sized garden this year. Some things I think I'll just get from the farmer's market but I have all this flower garden space to use up and filling them up with a combination of flowers and produce. I'll eventually fill it up with more perennials and less annuals as I can afford it AND make up my ever loving mind as to what I want. spaghetti squash is a new one for me. I love cucumber fresh from the garden. Cucumber and tomato salad is wonderful and tomatoes taste so much better from your own garden than from the store. I usually buy spaghetti sauce cause it is SO much quicker and easier but lately I've been getting into making things from scratch and putting LOTS of veggies in it. We cleaned out SOME of our garage but have SO MUCH stuff in it and a lot of it is gardening stuff along with camping stuff. We may tackle that once all the planting is done and if it is still nice out.

Rhonda - Your friend at Lake Tahoe - yes, very cool. It is a beautiful place and I loved the drive through there. Kind of boring going through where Kelly lives though, sorry Kelly, lol. There are some hot springs up by her place though and when we drove that area the sun was just coming you could see patches of steam rising from these warmer areas. The sun rise there was very pretty as well. Just don't gain all that weight back again!! LOL. Glad you slowed down the weight loss, can't help but wonder what caused it. Hey, good deal on the microwave!!

Trisha - Glad you are getting some relief from the itching. What is Milky Bar Icing? Is that like the Milky Way chocolate bar?

Sue Elm Grove - How are things going with you? Babies still doing okay?

Kathy - I have to tell you that tornado alley scares me! Do you have a safe place to go? Where do you go when the sirens go off? Even 7 - 8 miles away sounds too close for me. Every July and August we are on the lookout for tornadoes here. We are on the edge of town, fields straight to the south of us and I keep thinking there is nothing to slow it down once it comes our way!

Westchick - How nice! A new camera. I'm assuming it is better and you'll have more things to learn to do on it. Sounds like fun!

Pat - Princess is certainly a cutie. We have caught her sitting on the couch like a person. Always moves before we can get a picture though. Leans up against the back of the couch, sitting on her bum, arms at her side just looking around. Brian will go in to take a shower and while he is drying off Princess has her paw under the door waving it around wildly. We don't put a blanket on the floor anymore cause she'll burrow herself in there and then someone will step on the blanket and she screeches which is a little funny cause she doesn't meow, just squeeks. Her pet name is squeeker. Yes, I'm looking forward to diving at MB. There is a LOT more sand there and so the visibility won't be as nice as it was in the Caymans but I think it will still be cool. The visibility underwater at the Caymans was fantastic!

Lailas - That is a wonderful story. Thank you so much for sharing it.

Driedout - I made the decision to just be more active in most areas of my life. I went through many health issues where the doctor forbade me to do any kind of exercise (due to blood loss) and once she gave the okay again I started walking. I'd try to work out with weights a couple of times a week but mostly walked and a little bit of biking. After losing some weight hubby and I bought a tandem kayak, then we took scuba lessons and got our certification to dive. We still do a lot of walking although due to my stress fracture the doctor said to limit it to three times a week. Currently my major source of exercise seems to be working in my flower garden, lol. I am 56, mother of four (two boys and two girls) grandmother to one special 9 year old boy who lives in Vancouver with his mom. I am a diabetic, work full time and married to a man who is 10 years younger than me and says he struggles to keep up with me, LOL. I've lost 44 lbs in just over a year and would like to lose another 40 but the doctor says I should be happy with 30. No, I will never be a skinny 20something year old but I can be an active, healthy 50+ person excited with life!!

Kelly - I forgot that you all have a regular week this week. We celebrate Victoria Day and next week you all celebrate Memorial Day. I'm getting ready to head back out into that garden. Gorgeous day here! I hope next weekend is just as gorgeous for you!!

Well, I see Brian has grabbed his coffee and went outside to sit in the sun, I think I'll join him. Haven't decided if we will walk this afternoon or bike. Harder for the mosquitos to land on us if we bike, lol.

I hope your day is fantastic!!

Jeanine

I'm a few weeks shy of 50, and I am celebrating my half century mark by starting over. Unlearning deeply entrenched patterns, suspending cynicism and quitting appropriate. I've just completed my first week on SP, and I've had to be a little OCD about it. I'm online constantly, reading, browsing, clicking and tracking. I've found a couple of great people to check in with and I'm having fun!

One thing I'm not seeing much of is exercise directed toward older people, in my case with some physical challenges. Our bodies do get to be a little less forgiving with time. I'm also disappointed that all of the fitness videos I've come across are young, skinny people. I've nothing against young, skinny people. I was one from time to time. However it would be nice to see some more mature less "perfect" bodies too.

From poking around this week it seems that there are plenty of us who are very big and not so young. There's not much chance that all the Sparking in the world is going to make me a skinny 20-yr-old, or 30-yr-old, or 40-yr-old again. I appreciate instruction from those who are older and wiser, not just the pretty young people.

The tornado touched down near the airport which is west and north of here--maybe 7-8 miles. Damaged three homes, uprooted some trees, took down some power lines. We ended up with JUST rain and wind at my house. We had a family dinner and were just finishing up with dessert when the sirens went off. Thanks for the prayers.

Good Evening:

Just checking in and having to let Cindy know that the love story you read on Rose's reply to me is her love story. It appears that both Rose and I, who are both Aries and celebrate our birthday's in April have similiar romances and love stories.

Congrats again to Rose and Ron.

I am married 57 years and like Rose I met my husband ( not on a blind date but unexpectedly) when I was passing through a carnival in a city I was working. Going home from work and stopping off for a hot dog rather than cook dinner, this man saw me and started talking to me. Of course, I was young 18 going on 19 and tried to ignore him. I told him I was going out to the Army mess with my brother and his wife that night and he told me he could go to as he was in the forces at one time. I ignored him and he told me he was going to marry me. I went home, the carnival went on its way and I forgot about this man name John.

Until, sometime in November, ice cold and starting to snow I hear someone call my name and lo and behold, John had come back from Vancouver and had started to search for me, he had posted himself outside most of the places where a lot of women worked, Simpson Sears, the telephone office, the Emploment office, all the stores, etc. I was out with my girl friend and her boy friend. He caught up to us and we went for coffee and voila, he found me, I was surprised. Of course, mother and dad were not too keen, a Carny, we lived in a small town miles away from the City where I worked, He passed the inspection and we were married about 6 months later. I spent one summer on the road with the carnival and then John settled down to a 8-5 job and we started raising a family, buying a house and sharing our lives together which could not have happened if I had not decided to walk through the Carnival site and stop for dinner.

We are together for 57 years going on 60 if we have our way and John's health stays as it has been. Very ill then a recovery surprising the doctors and family.

Must be our love that keeps him strong and wanting to hang around for longer.

I am sure there are many other love stories out there to be shared, guess it was meant to be, I tell my husband, for better or worse, he got the better and I got the worse, we laugh a lot and then we realize we have shared so much time together -longer than a lot of people and are still able to laugh through some of the trials we have had.

Take care all and remember love makes the world go around.

Lailas

Jeanine, good thing curiosity did not kill the cat. LOL The scuba trip sounds like so much fun.

Cindy, that is so sweet that the one thinks of you as the grandma. Kids can be so much fun in small doses. LOL

Rhonda, way to take the blame. Colin is a keeper for sure. But you already know that.

Trisha, I feel so bad for you. Do you think calamine lotion would help?

Kathy, praying for all the people and their belongings to stay safe.

Westchick, what a pleasant surprise.

Merri, what is the congregation doing to scare away so many priests?

Have a great week everyone.

Pat

Good morning from sunny west Auckland in NZ.
Sure hope it stays fine too lol.

Kathy: Stay safe.... and let us know as soon as the warning is over that you are ok...

Rhonda: Good luck in seeing your Doctor today and getting things all sorted out.

I went out to do another photo gig last night... and I rode into the city and parked up at the person's home, who had borrowed my Fuji S1600 camera about a year ago.
I got a wee surprise.... as he gave me a Fuji S4500 camera.... this one does 30x zoom...
He said that he has done so much photo taking on my S1600 that he wanted to upgrade it as a replacement... it was like WOW...
So it has been so long since I last used the Fuji, that I will have to relearn how to use it again... lol.
Plus it means that I can now have two camera hanging off me when out taking some shots...
The S4500 is a single lens... so I may eventually do away with my little Samsung ES28 Compaq digi that is always attached to my hip...lol
Decisions decisions....!

\We are currently under a tornado warning, so I'm asking for prayers for protection from my praying friends. I live in Haysville, just south of Wichita. I will get back on as soon as I can, but the warning is in effect until 10 PM.

Thanks for your prayers and love,
Kathy
