Gorgeous, cool day and I am loving it! Enjoying the outdoors with the dogs.
Results of tests back from my DH's oncologist, all normal. Feeling grateful and blessed, almost 4 years since his treatment. I truly have all I need.

Hi KBELANGER--Thanks for the info! Since I was on low-carb for so many years, I probably get way more than I should--just got in the habit of eating mainly protein. I am impressed that you get a walk with your dog every day--I used to do that in the past. We are in the process of getting another dog--hopefully in the fall. Then I will take more daily walks. I walk a lot at work, but I still need more.

Welcome. Comung back from an injury is challenging.....wanting to more, wanting to be back to pre-injury rate & anxiety about re-injurying yourself.....baby steps is a good approach. Lots of luck!

NYC is in the midst of a heatwave....difficult to get all my walks in or to walk as long....been ill the last 2 days and lost 5lbs, unfortunately not sustainable when I rehydrate & resume eating, but nice to see lower #'s on the scale.

I find it so frustrating searching for new Topics on which to comment, only to find a long stream of conversation between just 2 people that has gone completely off topic...sometimes for long periods. Hi, I am new to this site and looking to find encouragement and to become a cheerleader for others going through this journey as I am.
I am 53 years old and need to lose lots of pounds, but the most important part for me is just to get my energy back.
I love to walk for my exercise and was doing 3-5 miles per day back in the spring, I injured my foot and my doctor (which also happens to be one of my employers) took me out of walking for 6 weeks and now starting over again.
Yesterday was my first day of walking again and it was all I could do to get in 1 mile... I hated that but I reminded myself it takes baby steps..
Looking forward to getting to know all of you!!!

Welcome....here is some info I found for you....

The average recommended intake of protein is 42 grams a day. Non-vegetarians eat way more than that (almost 80 grams), but so does everyone else. Vegetarians and vegans actually average 70% more protein than they need every day (over 70 grams).

Hi, I'm new to this forum--but definitely over 50! I'm 58 and want to make some changes in my life. I've started running some, but not as much as I like. I'm thinking of going Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian, but have to limit carbs and sugar. Does anyone know how much protein I need daily as a LO Vegetarian?

Hi KBELANGER, Welcome and happy birthday!
I can relate to your health challenges. I am recovering from 2 surgeries since March and am only permitted to walk.
I also relate to starting slowly, both now and in 1990's after a very long illness, I lived near a beach and could barely walk 5 minutes before needing to sit. I brought a towel and sat when I needed to. It took a while, but ultimately, I could walk 3-5miles a day and lost 60lbs. If I could do that then, we each can get there now. It just takes committment to do those 5 minutes consistently and build on it as you get stronger and fitter.
It is possible. Good for you for getting on the bike!

Hi y'all! So, technically I'm not 50 yet, but I will be in 20 days...so does that count?! I recently started back on this site and my weight loss journey, after a very long hiatus. I was seriously injured at work 5 years ago and have had numerous surgeries with complications and setbacks galore! Unfortunately, my fitness ended up taking a back seat to everything else and I actually weigh more now that when I started this the first time! Big sigh. :( I have found myself having very backwards ideas...I wouldn't exercise b/c it was too hard and I needed to lose weight first. Right, like that's going to happen!! LOL So, I finally woke up and decided to commit to improving my physical health even if I had to begin in the realm of the ridiculous. I began with a 6 min walk up to the fitness room in my apt complex, then 5 mins on the stationary bike, and then the walk back home. Yep, I seriously started with 5 minutes! I wanted to set myself up to SUCCEED and not FAIL...so went with an attainable goal. I have been adding just 1 minute each time I go. I just got back from doing 18 minutes and feel really good!! I am also tracking my food and trying to make healthier choices in that arena. Baby steps...slow and steady wins the race!! Want to lose 115 pounds and I WILL get there this time!! I am so encouraged when I read others' stories of success and I look forward to being able to be one of those people who can encourage those just starting out. God Bless y'all...have a GREAT day!!!

Wow! 7.5 miles is amazing! What is your pace?

Had to wait til after work today and I got 30 minutes in. If weather permits I will walk again when I get home.

Warm morning walk.....at 72 degrees in Nevada...

Yesterday was able to get over 7.5 miles in .......will try to beat it today if I can....

Looks like we have a lot of walkers :)
I bought a Cruiser Bike, and have been slowly building up the miles. It's a challenge, for some reason in the last 10 years it's gotten harder to get on and off the darn thing. But it's getting better, and I really enjoy biking through the community.

6 miles is fantastic! Congratulations!!!!
I was able to get a brief walk after work even though I was so tired I was walking like a drunk.
Will have more time to walk today. I really miss being able to walk as long & as frequently as when I was off work, but happy, mostly, to be back at work.

Thank you. Yes I am walking 20 minutes at lunch. I try to get 10-15 minutes in am, and time again after work, but nothing like the couple of hours I was doing and my job is completely sedentary. Waiting for surgeon to clear me to do more than walking.
Hopefully that will be in a couple of weeks.

Hi, I am new here. I am 58 & 9 weeks post-op hysterectomy. Since the surgery my weight has yo-yo'd up and down the same 5 pounds. Back to work which includes long commute so not walking nearly as much & I am finding food a struggle to keep in check. Hoping to find friendly support to break through this situation. Thanks!

I walk 7 hours a week and spend 3 hours a week at the gym on the stationary bike. I eat 1300 calories a day if I exercise or not I do not change it. I have chronic kidney disease stage 2 and have put myself on a kidney diet for the past 2 weeks with the same calories. I am trying to see a Dr. on nutrition by myself through the internet because my family Dr. will not refer me to one. I have gone from size 16 to size 12 now. I have 13 pounds left to lose.

Good Morning everyone from here in Tennessee...its 4am..i work 7p to 7a ER registration and find it hard to get the recommended 8 hours of sleep. usually I wake up after 3-4 hours of sleep what can I do to get more sleep..any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....
