Had a quiet snowy day in Iowa. It has started to blow a little tonight so probably won't be so quiet tonght as the last two days while we had the 8 inches of snow coming down.

Hello Hens! Just dropping by to say a quick hi. Mary, we're getting more snow, too. Boy, I'm ready for spring!!!! We're supposed to get 4-8" on top of the 23" we got on Friday-Saturday. Well, have to take what we get, but I'll be glad when spring comes!!!

Hi Hennies,
I have a wonderful day ahead of me...meeting an old school friend for lunch and then heading to the Oregon Coast to meet up with Karen (KLEE). I'm so looking forward to meeting a member of our coop in person! I'm sure we'll have lots to cluck about.
Wishing you all a great day,
Sue

Geri, Noticed that you have an RV and go to Carmel and Monterey. I grew up there and still have my mom's home in Carmel Valley and a home in Marina. I'm now in Oregon and can't really pick which I like better: Carmel area or Mt. Hood area. Do miss the ocean a lot!
Woo hoo! I've been practicing downloading pictures for my upcoming trip. I blogged a short story with pictures today. I also added a picture of all 7 of my grandchildren on my Spark Page. I'm doing pretty good. I don't need too much help any more. Geri

Good morning, I am trying to fool Mother Nature or at least outwit her. They are predicting heavy snow starting late tonight or early tomorrow morning lasting through Wednesday. I did all my shopping and errand running this morning so now I don't care if it snows. We are on the northern most edge of the predicted snow so we may not get much at all which would not make me unhappy.

Good evening, hens! Had a busy day cleaning out papers and organizing my desk. It was very cold today, but I think we're starting to get cleaned out from the snow.
Mary - Sounds like you had some true excitement at your house. Squirrels can be SO destructive. It's a good think you got him out pretty quick.
Kay - Glad to hear your grandbaby is OK.
I made some vegetable soup today. It's great weather for good, hot soup!
Well, see you all tomorrow. I'm going to go to bed to read.,

Sounds like everyone outside of Calif and Florida are snowed in. I love to visit the snow but living in it would be different. Good luck to all. Marly--Take care and take it easy. Geri

Good morning, Well, we had a little excitement at our house yesterday afternoon. I was sitting at the computer which is in the dining room and heard a funny noise in the kitchen, I peeked through the pass through and there was a fat gray squirrel trying to get out the window by our kitchen table. He was throwing himself at the window. We opened as many doors and windows to the outside as we could and closed bedroom doors so he wouldn't go into those and he finally ran out the porch and we aired out the house Terry I don't envy you that much snow at one time. The last time that happened to us was in 1978 and we were snowed in for 4 days. Our biggest snow fall this year was about 14". Have a great day everyone.

Hello!
Been MIA for a few days, needed a breather and time to get my head on straight. I was getting over whelmed, and I don't do that very well. I shut down. This time it was only for 3 days which is good. I'm taking time out to see what I need to let go. Well, that's pretty much all I have to say for now!

Good evening, hens! I've been pretty busy the past couple of days. It's good to be back! Whew!!!! We had a HUGE snowfall in Pittsburgh yesterday and into today. Two feet of snow hit us. We were only supposed to 8-12". So . . . needless to say I've been snowed in and took advantage of that to finish a couple of projects. We were in a state of emergency today. The snow stopped around 1:00 p.m., and my son-in-low cleaned out my driveway with the snowblower. Still have to get the walks shoveled, but that's not too bad of a job, although I don't have a snow shovel. When my kids were living with me, I had their shovel. I guess I'll have to get out and buy one. I have salt, but we usually don't get a lot of snow at one time, so I can sweep it. Well, I really DO need a shovel, though.
Becky - enjoy your time with your daughter.
Welcome, Gigi. Hello to everyone!!!!
Sweet dreams everyone!!!!

Hi Hens,
I love quilting too! But, I have always been a support person on the team and never made a quilt from beginning to end. Does that say someting about my personality. I guess I'm just a regular team player.
Although I do love to crochet. Hope you are all doing well. A trip to London sounds like blast. I'd like to go to Costa Rica. I'm saying that because it has been one of my dreams for 5 years but I have not made any moves toward going there. So, I decided to put it in print and work toward that.
I'm going out for dinner tonight and all I can think about it getting an ooey gooey dessert but I may just settle for fruit on the salad bar. It all depends on what I feel like. This is a buffet that has a Chinese, Mexican, American food area and then regular salad buffet. It's all one price and I know I am not going to use any of the salad dressings and leave all the goopy stuff alone. No oreo pudding for me. But, fresh watermelon sounds good in the middle of winter. I'm measuring everything in my plan on spark right now so I'm bringing my measuring cups with me. My friends may be surprised but I'm committed to doing this right.

Good morning all. The party was a huge success. I did succumb to a few sweet treats but I didn't overdo it. I am ever mindful of everything that I put in my mouth, good or bad. Geri, thanks for the vote of confidence. Spark people has been a life saver for me and my favorite place on sp is the hen house. Thanks for being such a wonderful group of hens.

Hi Hennies,
Yes, my sister and I are going to London for a week in March. I get several email travel newsletters, and there was a deal too good to pass up.
I'm really glad to have that to look forward to. I've been pretty sad lately and I have to find new ways to get happy. I realized today how many times I used to get over feeling sad because my husband would say, "Whoops--I messed up--sorry." Well, that's not going to happen anymore. I need to find authentic happiness, rather than just getting a bandaid from him. It will be hard work, but I'm strong and capable.
Today I contacted our sister hen KLEE and we're getting together at her house on the Oregon Coast one afternoon next week! Yay! She is such a wonderful listener and may be able to help me with Reiki or hypnosis therapy.
I have been walking and walking here in Eugene. My little house is about 5 blocks from the downtown area, and downtown stretches about 8 by 8 blocks. I walked downtown for errands earlier today and again tonight for an Art Walk. Today it was sunny so I also did some serious dandelion digging. I'm finding that I'm eating pretty healthy these days, too. I think I will be seeing some weight loss again soon.
Have a great weekend, all!
Sue

Hi there Hennies!!
And a huge welcome to another quilter, Gigi! That's why I haven't posted for 2 days...I've been buried in my sewing room for hours and hours. I'm machine quilting a huge queen sized quilt and my shoulders and arms are really getting a workout from all the pushing and pulling that needs to be done when you stipple stitch. I've skipped the gym, but did get out for a quick leg stretch with the pups. Need to breath some fresh air and see daylight for awhile to maintain my sanity.
Oh my sweet Sue...you know the old 50's song, "Breaking up is hard to do"...you wouldn't be the sensitive caring woman I know you are if you didn't feel sadness for the loss of your marriage. It's like a death in a way...life goes on...life changes.. but it's not easy. I'm so glad you found someone to talk to and are getting some support. We're here as well if you need us. I did see on facebook that you are going to be going to LONDON!! That's the thing to do...start thinking forward and not backward. Have any special things you're going to see and do? I so happy for you!
We are heading away for the weekend to stay with my daughter for a few days. I'll try sneak in a post or two, while I'm there. We're bringing our snow shoes and our walking ice cleats so I can get out and exercise some. My daughter also belongs to a gym and is in training to run a half marathon in the spring. This is my sweet, out of shape, non athletic daughter who joined spark people, has lost 25 lbs and is training for a marathon...God bless spark people and all that it gives us! I brought my gym clothes, but really don't love tredmills, but will go and tough it out with her. If she can do it I can!
Thanks Geri, for always being here to welcome the new chicks as they peek in. You are such a perfect example of dedication and support...
Hugs to each and everyone of you...what would I do without all you guys? Glad to see Mary popping in again...I miss you...
Becky.. Have a wild wonderful weekend!!
Becky

Good morning all. My day off was a busy day. I needed about 6 more hours to get everything done that I wanted to get done. Good thing tomorrow is the weekend. Tonight we are having a birthday party for my mom. My sister is hosting it and decided to have a dessert buffet instead of just a cake. There will be about 50 people there (I'm from a large family) so she is having quite a variety. I plan to eat dinner right before going over there so I won't be as tempted to indulge. I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Today I will meet my goals...all of them..no excuses today. I shouldn't look for excuses any day. That mind set does set me up for an easy way out of making my goal.

Sue--I can't believe how deep you get. You seem to say things that resonate with me. We have to get in touch with our feelings. We never know when we're going to get kicked in the butt (do hens have butts?). And when we finally figure everything out, we need to be prepared for what we really think. It's confusing but makes sense. Good luck. Geri

Hi Hennies,
Welcome, Gigi, and any other new chicks! This is a wonderful place to connect and get support.
I am so glad to see you back, Becky. I always get something out of what you have to say. I admired your determination to get some exercise even when everything seemed to get fouled up. Some days are like that, and you show your best traits when you persevere and get some exercise regardless of the obstacles. Thanks for sharing that.
I have been feeling very vulnerable, sad and confused the past week or so. I've learned a lot of things lately. I was really surprised to find out that even when you are the one who decides to leave a marriage, you can still get your heart broken. I hadn't expected that, because I had felt so free and happy when I made the decision to leave.
Today I am feeling better. I've been talking about my feelings to friends and in my new AA home group. I'm ready to get back to the goals that I set for myself when I left my marriage and started my new life. I want good health, contentment, simplicity, productivity, friends, and fun.
Did I tell you, hennies, that I did not bring a scale with me when I moved to Eugene? My friends who live 5 blocks away have a scale. I check it about once a week when I'm visiting them.
Today I'm doing a bunch of eBay related work, including taking a long walk to the post office with a couple of things that sold yesterday.
Sue

Nice to meet you. I would love to be a part of the Hen House. I am returning to Sparkpeople. I have to get back on the track to healthier me.
I can't believe I found someone that loves to quilt as much as I do. I started about 5 years ago. It is my sanity. I will post pictures of some of my quilts. I am glad I found this site.
Have a great day, Gigi

Good Morning sweet hens....
I had a good chuckle over your exercising dream, Robbie. It's a start! Maybe your body was moving while you were dreaming it was and you exercised without knowing it..ha!
Yesterday was a crazy exercise day. I got dressed early for yoga and my husband was going to drop me off since our car dealership is out by the gym and we often schedule car appointments at exercise times so we drop off cars and share the remaining one. As I was driving out, I remembered this wasn't yoga day, but drum day! I was an hour and a half early and didn't have any shoes along. That meant I couldn't use the tredmills either since my arches cry when I walk in my Tote boots. We decided to skip the gym, and go snow shoeing instead. I said that I just needed to get some exercise in. I spent the day pinning my quilt layers together and just when we were getting ready to go, my husband got a customer who stopped and by the time they left, it was too late in the day. I decided to take the dogs for a run, grabbed my ice cleats and took off down the road. About half way around my route, I noticed one of the cleats had snapped off so I had to turn around, retrace my steps until I found it again. By that time it was getting dark and I just said, "Enough already!" , gave up, and headed home. I did have a short run, but I sure tried hard to do better...huh! I highly recommend getting these snap on rubber cleats for your boots if you like to walk outside in the winter. Just take the time to put them on correctly before you start out!
Today is water aerobics! I will be there...I need to do a better job of recording my exercise. I do it, but don't take the time to log it in.
Anyone tried any good recipes lately? I'm up for a new soup if you've found a good spark recipe..
Hugs to all, Becky

Good morning everyone. If I can just get through today, I'll have tomorrow off, woohoo!! It's been a long time coming. Maybe I'll be able to start reading the spark book. It's been sitting on my coffee table for a month. Last night I had a dream that I was exercising. Maybe my subconscious is telling me something, lol. I'm going to start back small so it's not so overwhelming. I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Evening hens!
Just a quick drop in tonight. I am bushed! I was on my feet all day at work, went to the gym to work out with my trainer, got in 10 minutes on the treadmill, had to go cleaning tonight which gave me 45 minutes of cardio since it was all heavy cleaning and I got in over 14000 steps today. It looks like a restless night for me, my legs are aching! Another storm is moving in and my joints are killing me. Burned over 800 calories and blew it off by eating 2 slices of pizza because I was famished. Oh well, tomorrows a new day and I will do better than today!

Welcome to all of our new chicks! This is a great place to "roost." I've had a busy weekend. Still getting my house organized since my kids moved out. It's coming along but still lots to do. My next project is getting my living room hardwood floor sanded and refinished. Then it'll be time to starting getting new furniture. Looking forward to that.

It's a new month, so after reading all the posts and getting all the wonderful advice - I decided to go grocery shopping and buy healthy food. I bought a lot of fresh vegetables, healthy snacks, and lean protein. Now I need to make sure that I cook healthy and hopefully this month I can lose a few pounds. I'm not greedy - at least 4 would be nice!

Morning chickies....
Thanks for the kind words Rita...yes, those daily weigh-ins can be killers. I know myself, I can change 2-3 lbs in a day...all water weight. I personally will only do once a week weigh-in. Even then, if I think I should have lost and didn't , I'll weigh again the next day just to make sure that it wasn't the salty soup I had the night before that kept that scale up. After a year and a half, even a half pound a week is cause for rejoicing so hang in there. It's a slow game and again, concentrate on how your clothes are fitting, how much more energy you have, how much longer you can exercise. Good health is not all about weight loss. If you haven't measured yourself all over yet...do it now. That's another thing that has helped me perk up from a plateau. I'll take my body measurements and find out that even though the scale stayed the same, I'd have lost inches. Keep plugging along, it will come...and hopefully we'll help give you a few chuckles and some support along the way.
Lots of fresh new snow on the ground. Might make traveling into yoga a bit more tricky so I better get moving.

Hope your week will be good one in which you have time to work your plan, Becky! Having company can really derail time to exercise and eat right!
I'm dealing with some frustration. I thought I had broken through a plateau and now I'm not certain because 2 of the 3 pounds I lost have found their way back! Maybe it was only water weight that was lost, but as I weigh every day, (because of a program I'm involved in) I have not seen a 3# loss in one day before. The great news is that I am persevering through this trial, working out as usual, eating right and trying to keep my mind positive. This is a first for me and I credit the support that comes from SP! What a blessing!!
Have a super day everyone!! Ritarose

Quiet day here in the hen house...sorry, I've been so poor at posting. Have had company, but now am ready to get back to computer life.
Not a great weekend....no time for the gym. I did get back to water aerobics this morning though and I feel much better.
Here's to a better week!! Hugs to all Becky

I've said before that I try to get 100 SPoints every day. Sometimes I can't make it. Today I was reviewing the Spark Bonus Book section and saw that I get 50 points for every chapter I read. I didn't know that. I've been reading it slowly. So today I entered my chapters I've read and I'm now at 233 SPoints. Wow! Geri

You know, even if I didn't do anything but look at the trackers on the signatures it would help motivate me. I am determined that my tracker move this week.. no matter how small the distance.
Good Morning Becky A daily check in sounds pretty good although I am not always able to make it daily I will give it a good try. This is a fairly busy household with 4 kids (all grown) 3 grandaughters 2 dogs and 2 birds. I also enjoy crafts although I have settled for the knitting or crochet on a steady basis so don't do many other crafts anymore other than cooking and baking. That part can be hard so I have to be concious of what I am cooking I am just heading out the door to work and with check in here later on

We have snow (ice) in South Carolina...so the state has shut down.( not kidding) Schools are closed, my daughter is home from college because classes were cancelled. I have decided to relax today and catch up on some reading.

Good morning all. The weather here is cold but no snow predicted. I am ready for spring although I know it's several months away. This is a new month with fresh starts for me. January was a blur of working, eating and sleeping. I even dreamt about work, it was crazy! Here's hoping for a more normal month. I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

We are in the middle of a huge snowstorm! It started snowing yesterday late morning and is coming down in good sized flakes! My dh is out shoveling for me before I head out for work. I love snow, but hate driving in it. I had hoped to swap my camry for my husband's explorer but he made a good point telling me I have good snow tires and have only a couple of miles to go. I only work for about 3 hrs so I will be home early whereas he will not be home until late evening.
So pleased this morning to get on the scale and see that my 3# weight loss is holding at 2 #. I was on a 6 week plateau until yesterday when the scale shed 3! The program I started with had us get in the habit of weighing daily so I do that now. Helped me to see the fluctuations in my body weight. I'm not obsessed with the scale, just glad I can face what it says now!!
Hope all have a good start to February today! Stay warm!

Just got back from the cabin and playing in the snow. I saw some cool snowshoes and want to try some. I've never snowshoed and Becky makes it sound fun. Welcome Valerie (is that your name?). We love, love, love new hens and we offer lots of fun, support, and whatever you need. Geri

Hi everyone, The is shining in Michigan today and it looks glorious! Of course it is still very cold because it is still very much winter no matter what Phil does tomorrow, we will still have at least 6 more weeks of winter. Hope the sun is shining on all of you where ever you are.

Good morning ladies! I can't help but tell you that after a long plateau I showed a 3# weight loss this morning after mixing up my food, exercise and time of eating. I am on a program that has us weigh one time daily. I know tomorrow may show something else, but I am actually hopeful that all of the hard work of staying focused on the program is paying off.
I like this hen house as it's very positive and encouraging! So glad I found you hens! Have a great Sunday!

Congratulations on the new grandbaby!!! I can tell you that each and every one of them is a joy. I have 10 ranging from age 16 to 9 months! There is something special about each and every one of them. 6 of them live close to me and the other 4 live in Seattle about 16 hours away - but we talk often.
Last week the oldest who is sarcastic like his grandpa and has quite the sense of humor told me that he had a new girlfriend and that he remembered that I told him to look for the heart not for the looks! I told him I was proud of him and he told me that they had to touch a lot which of course led to grandma lecturing and him laughing - he then told me she was blind and the touching was him helping her around!!! He had a good chuckle about pulling grandma's leg!

Morning Hens and The Rooster;
Boy this has been a week on many levels. Learning I can't [push to hard to fast these days. Slower and easier make it so much better and easier in the end. Had to scale back a bit on my activitity still but it gets better each day. but adding things too fast isn't going to be the key for me at this time.
Pulling out my videos, and music to use as motivation for my exercise program. It is helping if I play several of them to do the things I need to do.Will hopefully be in a better place exercise way in the next couple of weeks.
Have had a several interesting things happen this week as we move forward with our new chat room, and with our lives. That is what makes life so interesting and challenging too.
I have a Dr. appointment this next week. so will jump on the scale while there. So will get a weight and see where I have to work and how hard in the days ahead. It is nice that hubby wants to do the cheerleading and cheer me and push me through those days I don't feel like I can do it.
Ritarose i know about plateaus. I had one that lasted for over a year. Despite the fact that I was constantly changing things up, and watching what I did. When I didscussed this with my Dr. She said that with large amounts of weight loss we are to expect thes little set backs as they seem to us. She alo reminded me that I had lost nearl 230 pounds with out any in the several years of my weight loss journey. It hasn't been easy, but I have tried to keep a positive attitude, and know I'm doing the things I must and the good thing is that I'm not gaining the weight I lost. That is the best. She also said that I wasn't to plan to lose more than 5 to 10 pounds of weight a month if I planned to keep it off. As slow was better than fast. As most here know I started weight loss journey at over 570 pounds. Now in the 320 range, I know how frustrating that can be.
But we also have to remember to keep stress minimal. and to keep going on our journey going no matter what we do. W have to take things one day at a time and keep focusing on our goals. Keep the list of your goals where you can see them and also keep giving inspiration and motivation you need.
Have a great weekend, and stay OP, hydrated, and find the humor in life.
Also keep clucking as well.
Flipped still hasn't gained weight but hopefully next week.

Good morning, Hennies!
I hope we'll get to see pictures of "our" new grandbaby soon! I probably won't be having any of my own for a long time, so I'd love to appreciate all of yours.
My walk yesterday was very satisfying, but also expensive! I happened upon an antique mall that was having its winter sale, and I bought a beautiful old kitchen cabinet, probably about 100 years old. It will fit nicely in an awkward corner of my new kitchen, next to the stove, that needed something tall and narrow. It was marked $350, but the antique dealer who was selling it happened to be in the mall when I was there, and I wheedled him down to $200. (I tried to get him to deliver it, too, for that price, but no go! LOL.)
I have a friend with a truck who will go with me to pick up the cabinet early next week. He's also going to help me pick up a pretty white metal daybed that I bought for my little guest room, where my daughter will stay when she visits me. The daybed has a brand-new pillowtop mattress and I got an awesome deal on that through Craigslist.
I am so fortunate to have old friends, Susan and Dan, who live just 5 blocks from me. I went to school with Susan many years ago, and her husband is the guy who is helping me run errands with his truck.
Tonight I'm walking to their house for a healthy dinner, then Susan and I are walking to the fairgrounds to watch a big roller derby event. I've never seen roller derby live before, just on TV, so it should be a fun night. I like to support women's sports whenever I can. I'll definitely be attending some University of Oregon women's basketball games, too.
I'm working hard to get more stuff on eBay so I can be a self-supporting single chick, and my sales are picking up, so that's working well.
I think you will all appreciate, hennies, that I did the right thing in separating...my husband already has a new girlfriend, which I find kind of shocking. Not that I wanted him back or anything--but it seems to me like it's a really good idea to take some time to pause and think about things before jumping right back into another relationship. Thank goodness I am in charge of only my own life!
Well, I'm off to pack up things I sold...have a great day, friends.
Sue
