I've always had over-developed calf muscles. I know mine will slim down some as I lose weight (that happened in the past), but for the most part I think I'm stuck with them--in my case I think they are hereditary. My best advice is to look for styles that are flattering (not capris that fall mid-calf for example, look for wide-calf boots) and learn to love 'em.

So I'm not the only one with leg problems, huh? Thanks for the tips.

FAWNZIB, using weights and swimming will not slim down your calves. As I explained previously, we can't spot-reduce.

Think of them as shapely! I have the same problem - my calves never really were fat (have slimmish lower legs) and they very quickly became muscular. As I lost weight and exercised more suddenly found the zip on my boots was getting harder to do up (and there are some boots that just won't fit over my calves. I have stopped doing exercises specifically for calves (like raises etc) and have learnt to enjoy the fact that my ankles looks slimmer as my calves have shaped out....

There is no way to spot-reduce the parts of your body you don't like. Fat loss is a total-body process, and stretching won't burn fat, anyway. :) because your muscles take their energy from the bloodstream, exercising your calves won't help.

How you build muscle and lose fat is largely determined by genetics. They won't keep growing, though. I also bet you money they aren't as large as you think, no matter what your "friend" might think. You're looking down on them from a skewed perspective. I used to think the same thing about mine, until I saw them in a full-body mirror while working out. They're proportionate for my body. :)

My calves are already huge, with excersizing I have noticed they are getting bigger. I have tried stretching, but it doesn't seem to be working. Even my friend pointed out the other day how huge they are. Any tips on how to slim them down?
