I have tried many times to lose weight. Right now I am at my heaviest. I am constantly concerned about health problems. It is just hard to stay motivated. So i am starting again. I really need as much advice and motivation as I can get.

For me it was my clothes they were getting tighter and tighter every day and then I look my self in the mirror and damn I was deformed literally from an hour glass shape to a ball, that was my wake up call to loose weight, I was just being lazy I was always active and fit, and all of the sudden I fell into the comfort zone and that's when I started gaining weight.emoticon

Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always your choice.

Well, it's always going to be a picture, isn't it? However, after I quit smoking and drinking, eating was the only other thing I can control. I am in a lot of pain most days and can't work at this time. I figured that sitting around waiting to die wasn't what I wanted to do anymore so I have started to lose weight AGAIN. It's been a never-ending ride of up and down but since I stopped working I have gained gained gained!

So, it's now or never.

When I blew out my knee (in Jan. 2009), snowboarding ... I want to be fit and never do that again, or anything similar.

I quickly lost about 20lbs -- It really helped after surgery not to have to lift that extra weight. Since then I've lost about 20 more and I really want to lose that final 10-15lbs.!

I heard it from a few people after I came back from traveling for more than half a year. The real wake up call was when I saw a picture of me on some website that had pictures of a festival I went to. Your friends tend to not put the bad ones on the internet, but the people from the festival didn't care of course haha :D

Family history of diabetes and went for a physical and my sugars were up. Told the doc to give me three months...started eating better and exercising and now blood sugars are normal and cholesterol is down 10%

Can someone tell me after you give up the cigs how long in takes before you stop gaining and start losing weight?????? I always had a plan to at least stay the same weight when I gave up smoking. So I quit a couple of months ago. I gave up the soda's, take aways, chocolate etc and cut down on the grog. I exercise for an hour and a half everyday and still to my disapointment I have gained 9kgs and naturally making me frustrated of what to do now.

I had the same experience SKIZZLEDANNI. Really got me worried. Between that and my recent divorce, I realized it was really time to make a change. Thinking about possibly being diabetic made me worry that I wouldn't be around to see my kids grow and that was a horrible thought. So I'm taking a stand now and really going to work at losing the weight.

Making two trips in one month for respourity failure

I wish there was only one thing that wakes me up. I remarried in May of 2010 and have gained weight as well as got out of shape-undid all the pre-wedding shaping up. I know it affects DH even though he denies it. Also I have high blood pressure and don't want to take so many meds. I suffer from chronic depression and hating how I look makes it worse. It is a downward cycle. I eat when I am depressed then gain weight or feel guilty then I eat more...

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anythingis excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.

Mine was getting on the scale one day, and weighing almost 200 lbs, I was in shock. Then started noticing how fat I was in pictures, couldn't take it anymore

Believe it or not you catching your weight gain before it got way out of control was great. I waited until I had gained 75lbs before I decided to do something about my weight gain.

You have come to the right place to assist you with your goal of loosing that 38lbs. I have lost a total of 50lbs and I am going to continue my fight against my fat! I wish you wellemoticon

My wake up call was when I can back to work. I had been off from work for about 4mos and in that time frame I had gained 55lbs taking my weight gain to now 75lbs. In the short time that I was off work due to an illness most of my co-workers had lost weight. I used to be in the slim club at work now I found myself in the fat club.

I had to do something and a co-worked who had lost 60lbs told me about Sparkpeople and I have been a member every since. I am still not a member of the slim club but, I am working toward that goal and I am closer today then I was yesterday.emoticon

I quit smoke 5 months ago... I knew about the anxiety and all the food I was going to consume to overcome the need of smoke.

Now I don't have the craves anymore for smoking so I'm ready to loose weight after gained a total of 38lbs.

I need to keep track of my weight... too many people in my family have diabetes and I do have High Blood Pressure.

I am really not okay with not liking myself, so that was a big motivator to me. Throughout grade school and into high school I was happy with my appearance...not many girls these days can really say that. I remember my family studies teacher talking to us about body image and being completely confused with the fact that I was 100% okay with my body and I wouldn't change a thing. I want to get back to that mind frame.

Even though when I first committed to losing weight, I was not as overweight as some people, it was enough to take a physical toll on my body. I am in pain every day from carrying extra weight, and I'd like to be as pain-free as possible. It was a wake-up call for me when my stomach physically hurt because it's too large for my frame.

I am always tired. Even though the exhaustion started when I was close to a healthy body weight, my exhaustion has gotten worse as I put on the weight. I would need to sleep for 8-11 hours, nap for 4 to be able to think straight. That's just not healthy or functional. Adding a healthy diet and exercise was a suggestion thrown at me by a specialist, so I have been trying my best to rule that out as a cause.

Then there is the standard health reasons: I don't want diabetes (like some family members) and I don't want to be the reason family members have a history of heart disease or other obesity related diseases.

that is my wake up call also. i have been getting headaches and feeling sick when i have too much sugary things.emoticoni also went on line today and bookmarked a pre-diabetic diet in case i have to refer back to it.

My doctor finally told me that I really had to. I'm high-risk for too many things. I also have fibromyalgia and have been told that the best thing that I can do to help manage it is to lose some weight and start a regular but not intense fitness plan.

I've done dieting and workout programs before, lost my weight, gotten in shape...but something always comes along to throw it all off...like a broken toe that hurt when I stood or walked or anything. Then once the habit is broken, it all gradually comes back and I'm where I started again. This time I have to have a little accountablilty or something to keep me at it as a life-style change, not a diet. I'm 46 years old and have 2 teenage daughters, and an adult son. I want to live to know my grandchildren.

I have been overweight (read obese) for many of my adult years. I would yo-yo every once in a while. Then in 1991 I had a CABG (coronary arterial bypass graft). In spite of this clarion call, I put the weight back on. Then I was Dx'd with CHF (congestive heart failure) and joined
WW. Did well but I was not getting the support that I felt I needed. At my highest weight I was 315 +/- and lost over 100 with WW but it didnt all stay off. I crept back to 240 and finally the light went on and through pure brute strength i dropped down to 226.

We moved to AZ and within a few months I was again under the knife with my 2nd CABG and diabetes out of control.

Enter SP and I found the support that I needed and I have made a total life style change. Now at 178 lb on my way to 171 (maybe more). I want, no NEED to have my BMI in the normal weight range for the first time in my adult life.

This my story and I'm sticking with it.emoticon
