I usually get discouraged when I don't drop pounds. I have been at the same weight since I began almost 4 months ago.

Using sparkpeople I feel so much better I am not so concerned with the number on the scale. I am eating better, making more conscious choices. And best of all I am getting in some fitness every day.

My endocrine issues. They're difficult to manage and because of them, losing weight is next to impossible no matter how much I exercise or watch what I eat. (Gaining weight, well, that's another matter.)

I'm hoping my new doctor will be able to help some with that, because I want to cry every time I see the scale creep up.

Drinking and desserts! The weekends KILL MY HEALTHY EATING.... It's like Friday comes and after working all week - I'm ready for a drink! But that's my goal... is stick to NO MORE THAN 3 drinks! By Friday night our neighborhood comes alive and there are golf carts and 4-wheelers all over the place....firepits are going at each of our houses .....so fun.... but with all of that comes 4-5 beers. (sometimes more if everyone's at our house). It's stupid! I'm sticking to no more than 3 drinks and ONLY ONE weekend night. emoticon

Every day is another chance to turn things around.

Hi Emily you must be doing something right with a 50+ lost. I too lack willpower at times because I just have to be eating something. My solution thus far is to have healthy snacks on hand all the time. I also pack them in small baggies for portion size so I don't go overboard.

I eat alot of apples and any fruit that is filling. I also treat myself to a dark chocolate bar when I want it. The objective for me is not to feel deprived. I remember a celebrity once lost a lot of weight just by tasting a spoon full of everything she cooked. Whatever works for you and I am sure you will figure that out if you haven't already.

Keep those pounds coming off not just for yourself but for all of your spark family.

I don't know if this is a form of discouragement, but after a long work week I look forward to a Friday night binge either with friends or even alone. I love my beer and snacks.

I know this is an issue so I am trying to make substitutes. But as any beer drinker knows there is no substitute for a cold brewsky. emoticon

I have been on this site for 5 1/2 yrs and the only prize I have ever received from the wheel is a key chain. Where are all those prize wheels? Also I entered many contests on the reading articles. I know you have a huge membership, but it does get discouraging; since I have many consistent rewards! emoticon away the blues! emoticon

I work so hard every day,count my calories, eat small portions and eat healthy snacks and yet I still look the same...
Plus it doesn't help my self esteem to see my mother in law who's 6' tall and looks like a super model.

Getting on the scale and not seeing (or having very little) progress. So, I've been doing, so I don't experience that 'let-down' feeling is I don't weigh myself but every 2-3 weeks. I know I'm making progress because (1) I'm learning how to make better food choices and am eating much healthier than I was. Therefore, in the long run it will be a win-win situation for me. (2) my clothes are getting very baggy and those that are smaller sizes I can fit into now. Back in 1998, before I hit my 50's I didn't want to be overweight. I began Jenny Craig and walked 5 miles every single day. I lost weight at about 1-2 pounds per week. Then, I reached a plateu. I did get discouraged because I felt I was working diligently and not getting the results. However, I was! I needed to buy a dress for a special luncheon I was attending. When I got to the dress shop, I grabbed a dress I liked and tried it on. It didn't fit. It was too large! So, the girl attending me brought me the next size down. That didn't fit either. Finally, the next size down did fit! I had never, ever worn a size that small even in high school. That moment proved to me that muscle does weigh more than fat. Although, the scales weren't showing progress, I was making progress in inches! So, Sparker's keep your chin up! You will achieve success! emoticon

Motivation gets us started. Habit keeps us going!

Mine is my own weakness to eat when stressed when you got things happening out of your control and all you can do is ride the storm out try not to cave but it usually ends up I caving because you can't ride a storm that never ends and then you tend to get even more upset if your like me have medical issues like anxiety and depression and I like positive people I try to be happy all the time no matter what my day is and others negativity towards me and others is a hard pill to take daily I love my job and I love my family. But sometimes they both are just as over whelmibg as the other so I tend to never get a break from panick and anxiety attacks here recently I think if you feel like you got to treat others badly to get what you want it's not right or fair to anyone I treat people as I want to be treated and not as they treat me I kind loving person and I will be that way all the time but if you cuss me and tell me I'm not worth anything well that's what you will get out of me just saying it like I feel it but I love life and working everyday there's bumps along the way you just got to ride them out

I do the best I can from now on my life is mine I want to be a healthy nana I can only control that I'm back And I'm doing the done girl and I am going to be a turbo fire hottie with the blazing blue team i am a positive thoghtful person who cares about others And my family sherry wilson

I find it very discouraging to see water weight gain on the scales due to working out. One is eating right and exercising and then.... emoticon

Lately, every time I weigh myself I get discouraged. The weight is just not coming off. I can feel great about what I am doing - healthy eating, workouts, drinking lots of water, etc. And then I'll go and weigh myself and in a split second I'm down on myself. That's why my scale is now hidden under my bed!

What discourages me? The pain in my neck and back! Sometimes, it's soooo bad I can't go on my walk. Then, guilt enters my mind for letting myself down.

Besides the whole weight gain thing (because we KNOW that discourages MOST of us)

1. Seeing advertisements on TV for fast food sandwiches that just by "eyeballing" it, has at least 1000 calories and Lord knows how many grams of fat.

2. Seeing morbidly obese children in public...that's just sad. So much misery and pain in their present and future.

3. Reading articles about the incline of both juvenile and adult obesity and the earlier and earlier onset of Type 2 diabetes and its ugly consequences.

Not seeing a change on the scale. It hits me pretty hard, then I immediately feel guilty, thinking that I have done something wrong. I try to focus on the fact that my pants are looser around the waist, and tell myself that I am doing a great job....it just takes time.

I agree with you. When I found my job, I told my family that there are certain classes I have to take in order to maintain my health. For example every Sunday I take a 7pm yoga class. I started with that and then started to find pockets of time. once a week a get up at 5 45 to do my 4 mile walk. I hate mornings but I say to myself just once a week I can do it. With this website it is hard to slip very far! And if you do it is there to shuffle you up with encouragement

When I think about looking for work! I was laid off in January and decided that was the time to Spark and hit the gym. I've done so well....but the thought of adding a full time job is overwhelming, as I don't want to miss my morning aerobic classes and resort back to old cooking habits. Kind of a slippery slope - miss a class, then what?

I get discouraged when I get off track for a while. I lose sight of my goals and think its not worth it. Until I see a picture of myself at a bad weight or when my pants get tight, then I'm motivated to start it up again (though still sometimes grumpy about it).

When I want to eat but have already gone over my calories. An then eat anyway. Trying to figure out what to make for dinners and lunches that is good filling and everyone in the family will eat it. I want to lose weight but I am trying to figure out how not to give up everything I like to eat because i know it wont last if i do. I want a life style change not a diet. I know I wont make it on grapefruit and water...

WE CAN DO IT!

Poor results on the scale and when I give in and have a bad eating day.
Sometimes I feel board of exercise as well and that sucks but I'm trying to find new and exciting ways to workout.

Every once in a while I slip into my old habits... once I allow myself to eat something forbidden, it's like the floodgate is open & I have a difficult time stopping. Friday was one of those days... Luckily I have learned that with each day, I have a fresh start!
