Some of the recipes in the book and online call for fat free cream cheese. I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Kraft discontinued it two years ago. Has anybody been able to find it anywhere?

I have the book and have done the diet. I found it hard to stick with the meal plan without more complex carbohydrates as it is hard to exercise much. Around day 12 I felt drained and tired. He does recommend only walking for 17 minutes per day in the first two stages though. I may resume doing it again to blast off the last 6 pounds that I have been having trouble losing over the last month. It does work but is hard for me to stick with it.

What did you end up doing? I am on day 4 and have gained weight (and I am completely staying on the diet). Really would like to know your experience.

Hi dietgirl
I just started my 4th attempt to do this diet! I never continued my precious attempts, as just like you Said I would not lose weight and the no carb thing made me crabby and so angry that I would sneak in a bite of candy here and there. Then recently I reached a weight I have never been at before and something in me just clicked and I got desperate to do something before I get comfortable with this new number on the scale. Today is my day 5 and have lost 3lbs and the things I am doing differently is drinking my morning drink and making sure I walk at least 6000steps a day ... Bought a new Fitbit before the diet so I like to continue to challenge myself. I am pretty happy that atleast something is working and I am going to give it my all :)

Hi i just joined SparkPeople! I just finished my first cycle of the 17 Day Diet and only lost 1 lb! I was very strict with myself and never cheated. Can anyone identify with this? Should i continue to the next cycle or just assume if i hardly lost any weight with the first cycle, i probably wont lose in the next cycles.
Any ideas will be most appreciated:)

Hi "mom" of 1?
It really isn't an all or nothing. Maybe in the beginning you should try to stick with it. I managed to lose about 15 lbs in the long run. I still have another 3-4 lbs to reach the goal I had in January. Not following the plan at all, but have changed my eating habits for good. I gain a little, lose a little but still stay a few lbs from that goal. I suppose if I stuck to cycle 1 again for a few days, I could lose those, but I am happy with what I am doing. I guess If I started gaining too much, I'd get strict with myself. Just try to stay on long as long as you can. When you go out, eat salad with fish if you can. Once you start losing you will be psyched. Keep posing...good team.

I'm a newbie too and I'm a bit anxious. I'm planning to start tomorrow. However, I have questions about what to do on occasions when you're going out or don't necessarily have control over what's being served. To me, it almost seems like an all-or-nothing diet. Is failure imminent if one strays slightly?

I agree about the fruit. I miss not being able to have some after dinner. As far as breakfast goes. I switch every other day...eggs or egg whites with spinach, then yogurt and fruit the other days. Or the live active cottage cheese with fruit. (I also miss my red licorice sticks at night)! LOL

I think my biggest challenge is trying to not eat my fruit after 2pm. That is so early in the day. I really like that Triple 0 Greek yogurt. What are some ideas for breakfast besides eggs?

First I have heard of this diet. I'll have to do some research into it.

The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.

I am on day 16 and have only lost 2 lbs also. I have stuck with it except but didn't lose a pound my first week. Then I noticed that I was eating too much protein and veggies....still stuffing myself as is my M.O. I have started taking more breaks while eating to assess whether or not I'm still hungry. That has helped. I'm glad to hear you DECIDED to stick with it. Because that's what it is, really, a decision to be healthy. I've decided even if I only lose a pound a week I will keep with it because it is still progress and movement in the right direction of getting healthy. Let's stick with it, EROSA011!

I am on C1D17 today. I have moved from 165 to 158 in 14days (my scale has not moved since the 14th day,as I am still on 158). A friend of mine, whom I had not told that I was on weight management, said that I looked like I had lost something (but also wondered if it may be the black pants that I was wearing), so I guess the inches are falling off, although not yet so evident on my clothes, but I can feel the difference on how my jeans hold on my body.

I also can't wait to get into a new dress size, and I am sure someone has noticed, they just have not said it yet.

I love this diet so far! I am on Day 10 of Cycle 1 and have lost 9 lbs (started at 205, currently at 196). On day 6 I slipped up and drank alcohol and a peice of pizza and it cost me a lb - I kept going the next day and feel good about how things are going. I am wondering how much weight you have to lose to drop a pant size or for people to notice ? The scales are showing progress but my clothing is not??

The diet changes every 17 days. It is a life style change in eating. I started the diet in June. I stepped on a scale for the first time in some time and I was shocked at the number I saw. I am 5 3 -48 years old and the scale read 215. I am now 140 lbs. and in a size 8- I have 20-25 more pounds to go. I feel better than I have in years. This is a program I can live with.

Wow 55 pounds is amazing! Congratulations!!!!

I just started a couple of weeks ago for the first time. I'm at C1D15 and in some ways am very discouraged but in other ways extremely happy with the diet.

The bad . . . I lost 5 pounds in the first few days and was ecstatic because I feel like this is something I can stick with. But then those same 5 pounds came on and off and on so now I'm back where I started from.

The good . . . so many people have said I have lost weight and look way better. It seems that way to me also but the clothes aren't really loose so I thought perhaps I was imagining it.

The challenges. . . The past 4 or 5 days have been pretty tough because I get so tired I crash out in the middle of the day. I realized that I need some minerals like potassium and magnesium to help with that. But I didn't know and don't remember reading about the extreme fatigue that can hit out of the blue.

Also I think I've done myself a big disservice because I have had coffee with low fat milk every day. So 2 cups of milk in my coffee might have made the difference of me really losing a lot more weight. I found some almond milk that has very little carbs (2 compared to 16 in the milk) so I will definitely only use that from now on.

Anyway I'm glad to have found this group and hope I can help others and also get help and answers to challenges I'm facing, etc. : )

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this so please excuse me if I am not doing something right. I am going to start the 17 day diet this coming Monday.. Not sure why I am doing it right before Thanksgiving but I guess it will test my strength lol..Just wanted to see how everyone was doing on the 17 day diet and any suggestions. Alittle about myself I am just turning 32 this week and am happily married with a new 7 month old baby girl that is the love of my life... I have not been able to lose the baby weight and I am hoping this the answer.

Thanks

I keep hearing about this, what's so good about it? If it's a diet then what happens after the 17 days? Do you continue on, do something else, what? Any insight would be helpful.

The 17DD is a wonderfully supportive active team - the leaders are great! I could have never lost 55 lbs without the support and encouragement there.

Thanks Gabby.... Moral support is what I need right now. Been really frustrated lately with dieting. Or should I say changing my way of eatting has been really hard. Harder than I ever imagined it would be. Chocolate being my comfort food....But I am sticking to this. Thanx again.

@strawberry - please check out the team for more info. The link is posted below.
However, you ONLY lost 8 lbs in 10 days?! That's fantastic!! Please don't have unrealistic expectations about dieting. The 17DD is not a fad diet but a healthy way of living. It's also normal for the scale to bounce up and down when your body is still adjusting to your healthy diet. I put my scale away and stopped weighing myself every day because of that reason. Stick it out the 1st cycle (C1) for the full 17 days and see how much you lose at the end.

I am totally frustrated. I have been on the 17 day diet for 10 days now. I have only lost 8 lbs. But then I found the scale bounces up and down by 3lbs. I have really been discouraged...I feel I follow the diet to a T. Been very hard for me.....Been eatting more healthy than I ever have...but still dont see the scale budge. What is up with that. Any suggestions?????
