My Endocrine doc 'ordered' me to get some and use them every day. I was skeptical, but surprisingly, they do work. I find I'm better off taking them off my feet when I come back indoors. Luv 'em, Renie

Sounds like a gimmick.

Long term effect is positive! I wear only shape-ups since July 2009 after having knee surgury. The best thing about the negative publicity is I can get them on sale! (when I can find them).

Yes, I think they are comfortable. I don't think they changed the shape of anything!

The shoes are the best I have ever worn. Try them, you may like them. They are like walking on pillows.

I have a pair, love to wear them.my legs do get sore if I wear them for to long of a time, like 8 or 10 hours on my feet so I usually don't wear them to work, where I stand most of the time. I do however , wear them all day on other days but not usually more than 2 days in a row. I like the way I'm more balanced in them, but at first it seamed a little wobbly , I also like the way they look on my size 9 feet, they look smaller to me Keep tracking 1961

I have been wearing them for several months with no problems, but I have heard there is some type of lawsuit going on with injuries from the shoes.

Had two pair, got rid of them. Was always feeling "off balance" when I wore them and was afraid of falling.

i filed a law action suit too never heard a thing as of today thats a lost cause i guess.... i went to my orthopedic i had a spur on my heel and he asked me what kind of shoes i wear and i told him sketchers he said throw them away because they dont do what they are made out to be.... and they will be soon off the market that was 2 yrs ago and here we are in a lawsuit.... They are comfortable though but i dont wear them much just when i work on my excercise machines.... i bought 2 pair of orthopedic shoes a pr for the winter and a pair for the summer they are more expensive but well worth it.... but thats how much sketchers were but its all in ones preference .... GOOD LUCK

I started wearing them AFTER knee surgury in 2009 and have worn only shape ups ever since. They are like walking on pillows. probly bought over 20 pairs in the last 3 years of wearing them. Would only change if I could find something more comfortable.

Yes - don't get them if you have back or knee issues.

I bought them, but found them odd to walk-in, but didn't see very much difference? But I did see the add about some lawsuits about people that wore them and got hurt. That is really bad something made to help you with losing weight and then you get hurt?

For specific orthopedic problems, they work well enough. There is a type of boot/shoe that some doctor's might recommend that are similar, but I'd bet the Sketchers are cheaper. For regular wear, they aren't very good. I've spoken with 4 physical therapists and none of them think it's a good idea. Especially if where you work relies on you lifting, walking quickly and being very active. On the news there was a waitress who broke the neck of her femur just walking around. There have been many more injuries than those helped. As for toning your legs, your muscles will accommodate to the wear and not gain much more after the muscles get used to the new routine. Perhaps if they were only worn as exercise shoes, but those moves along with an unstable base of your shoe could cause problems.

Point blank: They don't do what they're advertised to do. They can't "tone" your legs. They're comfortable shoes for some people. No more, no less.

Good Golly Miss Molly, Son is an orthorpedic dr and he said he didn't know but he thought they would find our they were bad for people. Not to long ago, saw an ad on tv for a class action law suit against them for some injjury they were causing to people's legs. Might want to check this out.

I bought a pair over a year ago for $100. It was proven in the class action suit that their claims as to what they could do was false. So, people who file a claim should get some money refunded. If you don't file a claim; you won't get a refund. They owe the public the money because they lied. Instead of paying $100 for a pair of Shape Ups; it probably should have cost more like $40 a pair.

Replying again...I went to orthopedic surgeon a few weeks ago and he advised me to wear the shape ups or something like them. i had mentioned before that I had read they were tripping hazards. I asked him about it and he said only for those with balance issues. He didnt' seemt o think there was big dif in the brands. I like my sketchers.

Yes, am aware of the settlement but don't see any need for a refund when the shoes are so comfortable to wear. Would be dishonest to get money from them and not earn it. One cannot blame them for not losing weight when we eat the wrong foods.

Please tell me that you're all aware of the 40MM that Sketchers has to pay out, because they were found to have ZERO medical support in their claims of how these shoes help you lose weight and tone. Here's how to get your refund, according to the Federal Trade Commission. www.ftc.gov/bcp/cases/skechers/index.shtm Beware of the fitness gimmicks! They're out to get you, fellow Sparkers!

I have worn and bought at least 10 pairs in the 3 years of wearing them and none of them ever fell apart. The sole wears down on one side due to constant walking but that is the only reason I get new ones. When they do wear down, I wear them for gardening or yardwork. I find it hard to let them go.....
|
|
|

I have not personally bought them but my sister did and she said they are not all they claim to be and also they started falling apart within a couple of months. she said she would never buy them again and she went out and bought a regular pair of tennis shoes. Her comment was that they are a waste of your hard earned money.

I had read that they were tripping people...but when I went to an orthopedic for a painful toe, he told me that they were a great option. I asked about the tripping and he said that it was only with people that already had balance issues. They helped my toe a lot. So I like them..and I, personally, like how they look.

I wrote to Sketchers and they told me that these shoes are made for active walking...not standing. At my current job when I am up, I am standing to file, fax, etc. Also my Dr. advised me that my muscle in the back of my leg had shortened a bit from the angle the shoes put my leg in. He advised going back and forth unless "actively" walking whereas your heel is pulling the muscle down. They are GREAT shoes though. I swear by them.

I also had the same experience where the shape ups took away the foot pain but now that I am retired I still wear them. How would they cause back pain during sitting? just curious in case I need to watch out for it.
|
|
|
 |
I bought them when they first came out - 2009? Had a nerve that ran from my back down my leg and created terrible pain. As soon as I put the Sketchers Shape Ups on, the pain went away. I had a job where I was on my feet 10 hours a day. Once I put them on I never took them off. It was incredible. I never thought I would be able to be pain free again. That was until this past month. In Jan 2011 - I changed jobs to a desk job...uh oh...and the shoes were making my lower back hurt...so I went back to my regular Sketchers and all is good again! I will switch back and forth, I think. Right now they are putting me out of alignment. Funny, huh?

When you first get the shape ups, you have to build up time with them. I started with an hour on and a few hours off and then in a few days was totally wearing them. Being short, the extra height is nice.
My ankles did hurt at first due to using differnt muscles but it was worth going thru the training process.

I have a pair but they really hurt my arches. I don't wear them anymore.

I have a pair but I'm not really all that crazy about them. I seem to forget I have them and not wear them. I think I am afraid I will twist my ankle or fall off of them.
|
|
|

I have worn only Shape ups since June 2009 after having nerve damage in foot after knee surgury. They are like walking on pillows. Lately they have been on the clearance shelves. I think they are discontinuing them since they have been on sale and stores are not having new ones on their shelves.

About blisters.... I use 100% cotton socks. When they have nylon or wool they just don't seem to work for me. If I am hiking or walking long distances, I bring a clean dry pair to put on. Sometimes I even change shoes! This has really helped me walk miles longer! Happy feet are healthy feet!

I love mine. Just walking around walmart in other shoes would give me terrible pain in my hips and knees. The shape-ups allow me to walk without pain again.
