I wear them almost every day and LOVE 'em! They have really helped my lower extremities from hurting all the time. They put a bounce & spring to my walk. Plus, they draw a lot of attention!

I bought a pair a few years ago. All they accomplished to do is cause pain in my legs when I wear them more than a couple of hours. Don't waste your money.

My Endocrine doc 'ordered' me to get some and use them every day. I was skeptical, but surprisingly, they do work. I find I'm better off taking them off my feet when I come back indoors.

Luv 'em,

Long term effect is positive! I wear only shape-ups since July 2009 after having knee surgury. The best thing about the negative publicity is I can get them on sale! (when I can find them).

Yes, they are comfortable. But I can't wear them much. I have bad ankles and for whatever reason I can't go out and walk in them. I can wear them for short walks or to and from the car to the office, but that is about it.

I have had two pairs of them. I did not get involved with the lawsuit filed over the false claims about these shoes. However I have just become suspicious that these shoes may have caused foot cramps in my feet. Thongs and cheap shoes with no support can cause foot cramps for me. That's why I almost always wear a good tennis shoe. I started having bad foot cramps and I thought I might be vitamin deficient or maybe not drinking enough water. I have started taking vitamins and making sure to drink more water. The cramps have gotten better over the past few months. About the same time I got some new shoes. Yesterday I did yard work and I wore my old shape-ups to clean up leaves and such in the garden. This morning I had TERRIBLE cramps in both feet. It's the first time I connected the shoes to the cramps. Those shoes are going in the trash-foot cramps are very painful and I could do without them. I will stick with my New Balance shoes which appear to work better for me. I think it just has something to do with the support in those shoes not agreeing with my feet. I had no other problem like some people claim.

I have a pair, love to wear them.my legs do get sore if I wear them for to long of a time, like 8 or 10 hours on my feet so I usually don't wear them to work, where I stand most of the time. I do however , wear them all day on other days but not usually more than 2 days in a row. I like the way I'm more balanced in them, but at first it seamed a little wobbly , I also like the way they look on my size 9 feet, they look smaller to me emoticon emoticon

I bought my first pair in 2010. until then the extra weight i was carrying around made my knees and ankles hurt tremendously. i know years of carrying this extra weight put a lot of stress and pressure on my joints. the shape ups i bought allowed me to move more freely without all the pain. you do have to be careful how you balance yourself on them. you can not just step to the side without properly lifting your feet because the shoe is larger than most but not as heavy. if you walk from heal to toe making sure to fully extend, you will get a workout similar to walking in the sand. for this reason, some complain of muscle soreness. i didn't experience any discomfort or soreness with mine and the weight loss i experienced may not have had anything to do with the shape ups but the shape ups sure did make walking, hiking, and jogging a lot less stressful on my joints. i could always tell when i needed a new pair because my knees and feet would start hurting again just with everyday activities like going to the store and walking around the house. you can only expect to get so many miles out of any shoe you own before needing to replace them.

I had 6 pair of the shape up and same as you I file a law action suit but never heard anymore. Since that time I have had 2 knee replacements and my Orthopedic surgen said it was because of the shoes and never to wear them again. Needless to say I threw them away. I didn't want anyone to have that problem because I gave them away.

i filed a law action suit too never heard a thing as of today thats a lost cause i guess.... i went to my orthopedic i had a spur on my heel and he asked me what kind of shoes i wear and i told him sketchers he said throw them away because they dont do what they are made out to be.... and they will be soon off the market that was 2 yrs ago and here we are in a lawsuit.... They are comfortable though but i dont wear them much just when i work on my excercise machines.... i bought 2 pair of orthopedic shoes a pr for the winter and a pair for the summer they are more expensive but well worth it.... but thats how much sketchers were but its all in ones preference ....

GOOD LUCK

I tried a hybrid Shape-Up but they didn't fit properly. I love Fitflops! Same concept. They started with flip-flop styles and now have other sandal styles, shoes and boots. It's all I wear all summer. They are great for power walks and everyday use. I don't know if they actually tone anything on me but they are really comfy and DEFINITELY improve my posture.

I haven't try those but I did bought one pair of the Reebok easy tones and know I'm waiting for my payment of the settlement for a class action suit that they have, I tell you those shoes are the most uncomfortable shoes that you can buy, they numb my toes after walking for a short period of time No good in those!!!emoticon

I bought a pair at half price. They have good arch support but put you off balance. I can see why there are a number of injuries and law suits. I didn't buy them thinking I lose weight. Anyone with common sense would know that was some ad company idea to sell shoes and the Kardasians got a little richer.

I bought them, but found them odd to walk-in, but didn't see very much difference? But I did see the add about some lawsuits about people that wore them and got hurt. That is really bad something made to help you with losing weight and then you get hurt?

For specific orthopedic problems, they work well enough. There is a type of boot/shoe that some doctor's might recommend that are similar, but I'd bet the Sketchers are cheaper.

For regular wear, they aren't very good. I've spoken with 4 physical therapists and none of them think it's a good idea. Especially if where you work relies on you lifting, walking quickly and being very active.

On the news there was a waitress who broke the neck of her femur just walking around. There have been many more injuries than those helped.

As for toning your legs, your muscles will accommodate to the wear and not gain much more after the muscles get used to the new routine. Perhaps if they were only worn as exercise shoes, but those moves along with an unstable base of your shoe could cause problems.

Point blank: They don't do what they're advertised to do. They can't "tone" your legs. They're comfortable shoes for some people. No more, no less.

Good Golly Miss Molly, Son is an orthorpedic dr and he said he didn't know but he thought they would find our they were bad for people. Not to long ago, saw an ad on tv for a class action law suit against them for some injjury they were causing to people's legs. Might want to check this out.

As many lbs as realistically possible before Thanksgiving 2013, my 61st birthday. They are on the same day, November 28, it happens once in many years depending on the leap froggy month. Last time was major the big 50, Thanksgiving I thought the earth trembled! lol

I bought a pair over a year ago for $100. It was proven in the class action suit that their claims as to what they could do was false. So, people who file a claim should get some money refunded. If you don't file a claim; you won't get a refund. They owe the public the money because they lied. Instead of paying $100 for a pair of Shape Ups; it probably should have cost more like $40 a pair.

Replying again...I went to orthopedic surgeon a few weeks ago and he advised me to wear the shape ups or something like them. i had mentioned before that I had read they were tripping hazards. I asked him about it and he said only for those with balance issues. He didnt' seemt o think there was big dif in the brands. I like my sketchers.

Yes, am aware of the settlement but don't see any need for a refund when the shoes are so comfortable to wear. Would be dishonest to get money from them and not earn it. One cannot blame them for not losing weight when we eat the wrong foods.

Please tell me that you're all aware of the 40MM that Sketchers has to pay out, because they were found to have ZERO medical support in their claims of how these shoes help you lose weight and tone.

Here's how to get your refund, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

Beware of the fitness gimmicks! They're out to get you, fellow Sparkers!

I just bought a pair yesterday for 20 bucks on clearance!! I thought what the heck 20 bucks for any pair of sneakers is a good deal in my book. I've used them twice already and I love them!!

I had been wearing mine for three years too. Until I went to the doctors and asked what I should wear for shoes now that I will be walking. I also told him that when I walked in my shape ups, I felt more pain then ever before while I walked. Normal walking was not an issue. But I started to roll on my ankles. My doctor said and he is a fabulous doctor, that those are the worst shoes you can be walking in. Lots of pain and problems associated with them. I gave away the two new pairs I had and bought a pair of brooks running shoes. Once these brooks were broken in, they are by far the best shoes I have ever had. I recommend you get a good solid pair of shoes, not the shape ups.

I have worn and bought at least 10 pairs in the 3 years of wearing them and none of them ever fell apart. The sole wears down on one side due to constant walking but that is the only reason I get new ones. When they do wear down, I wear them for gardening or yardwork. I find it hard to let them go.....

I have not personally bought them but my sister did and she said they are not all they claim to be and also they started falling apart within a couple of months. she said she would never buy them again and she went out and bought a regular pair of tennis shoes. Her comment was that they are a waste of your hard earned money.

I had read that they were tripping people...but when I went to an orthopedic for a painful toe, he told me that they were a great option. I asked about the tripping and he said that it was only with people that already had balance issues. They helped my toe a lot. So I like them..and I, personally, like how they look.

Now or Never!

I wrote to Sketchers and they told me that these shoes are made for active walking...not standing. At my current job when I am up, I am standing to file, fax, etc. Also my Dr. advised me that my muscle in the back of my leg had shortened a bit from the angle the shoes put my leg in. He advised going back and forth unless "actively" walking whereas your heel is pulling the muscle down. They are GREAT shoes though. I swear by them.

I also had the same experience where the shape ups took away the foot pain but now that I am retired I still wear them. How would they cause back pain during sitting? just curious in case I need to watch out for it.

I bought them when they first came out - 2009? Had a nerve that ran from my back down my leg and created terrible pain. As soon as I put the Sketchers Shape Ups on, the pain went away. I had a job where I was on my feet 10 hours a day. Once I put them on I never took them off. It was incredible. I never thought I would be able to be pain free again. That was until this past month. In Jan 2011 - I changed jobs to a desk job...uh oh...and the shoes were making my lower back hurt...so I went back to my regular Sketchers and all is good again! I will switch back and forth, I think. Right now they are putting me out of alignment. Funny, huh?

When you first get the shape ups, you have to build up time with them. I started with an hour on and a few hours off and then in a few days was totally wearing them. Being short, the extra height is nice.

My ankles did hurt at first due to using differnt muscles but it was worth going thru the training process.

I have a pair but I'm not really all that crazy about them. I seem to forget I have them and not wear them. I think I am afraid I will twist my ankle or fall off of them.

I have worn only Shape ups since June 2009 after having nerve damage in foot after knee surgury. They are like walking on pillows. Lately they have been on the clearance shelves. I think they are discontinuing them since they have been on sale and stores are not having new ones on their shelves.

About blisters.... I use 100% cotton socks. When they have nylon or wool they just don't seem to work for me. If I am hiking or walking long distances, I bring a clean dry pair to put on. Sometimes I even change shoes! This has really helped me walk miles longer!

I have 2 pairs, white & black. I can't use them all the time, especially speed walking, but for shopping they are great for me anyway! I love the support of the rock on my arch.emoticon

I love mine. Just walking around walmart in other shoes would give me terrible pain in my hips and knees. The shape-ups allow me to walk without pain again.
