CAMPCON - if you previously had the free app, you may still be able to get that back (but it won't be updated - the paid app has already been updated several times and continues to be updated).

The process for reinstalling the free version of the app is slightly different depending on where you originally downloaded the app. Below are instructions for purchases from Google Play and from Amazon.com's Appstore for Android.

Option A--Purchased from Google Play Store/Android Market
1. On your device, open the Google Play app.
2. Click the menu button on your phone.
3. From the options that appear, select "my apps."
4. At the top of the page, you will have the option of viewing installed or all apps. Click the button that says "all" to view all apps.
5. Scroll to find the app.
6. To the right of the app title, click the icon that says "free" to install it.

Option B--Purchased from Amazon
1. Open the Amazon Appstore App.
2. Click on the menu button on your phone.
3. Form the options that appear, select "my apps."
4. At the top of the page you have the option of viewing new, installed, or all apps. Click to view all apps.
5. Locate the SparkPeople app from that list and click to install.

I am interested in the app, but I am not willing to pay the price (which is quite expensive for an app) when I do not know what experience I will have using it. I would be more likely to use the app if it offered, for example, a 7-day free trial to show me whether it is worth purchasing.

I just recently purchased the app but I can't find my favorites or food groupings from the website? When I do a search it doesn't show all the choices I see on the website too. is something wrong or am I doing something wrong?

NEVER MIND - got answer from another message board after searching a while.
For anybody who doesn't know: Click on Food on bottom then click your menu key.
When you click on Favorites your groupings are at the very end of the list.

Thanks for your post on the mobile apps. I just spent most of my "time-to-get-ready-for-work" trying to find out what apps SP offers and if they're free.
Good luck with your journey (I'm sticking to the free website!),

Very sad. I had the app on my old phone... when it was free. Didn't use it much. Bought a new phone last week, it will not let me download the app without purchasing it. Shouldn't some of us be grandfathered in?

I suggest that whoever created this app use a different barcode scanner, I have a horrible time getting it to scan the correct barcode, when other barcode apps have no problem identifying the barcode.

Unless there is a way to have the app use another installed scanner app?

Thanks Coach Denise! Sorry this took me so long, I couldn't find the post :-( I messed up when I asked this question. I meant "Groupings" and "Recipes-that I created myself"... I tried the mobile site and I could get to my favorites on my phone, but I didn't see all my groupings and recipes that I entered. I use some of these on a daily basis, so I am wondering if there is a way to get to them? I also don't mind paying for the app if I can get to them that way???

BREEZY85 - As I previously mentioned in this thread, we started charging for our mobile tracking apps because they require significant resources to build & maintain, but do not provide much revenue via ads (and we have to make money so that we can stay in business and support our free products)! The site is still 100% free and so is our mobile site that can be accessed on your phone's web browser (mobile.sparkpeople.com).

However, if you previously had the free app, you may still be able to get that back (but it won't be updated).

If you have an iPhone:

1. On your device, open the App Store app.
2. Click the button at the bottom to navigate to "Purchased."
3. At the top of the purchased apps page, click the button that says "Not on this iPad/iPhone."
4. Scroll through the apps until you find the Diet and Fitness tracker and click to install.

But keep in mind, those old free apps will not be updated and the paid versions have already been updated and will continue to be updated. Also, the fee is a one time only charge.

I previously used the free version, and now I use the paid version, but I've never been able to get the fitness tracker to work. I can track stength, but not cardio. I cant add from the + button, custom, or from my favorites.

I've uninstalled the app, reinstalled, reset my device, nothing gets it to work. Is this a known issue or is there a fix? I'd reall like to track my fitness without having to log into the website.

I'm on an HTC Incredible 2.

Welcome to SparkPeople! There isn't a way to do that on the app, but on the site, you can see that breakdown. You can go to your Nutrition Tracker page, click on the button below your tracker to See Today's Full Report and that will show the breakdown for all nutrients for each food item you tracked.

Hope that helps!

Hi, Coach Denise,
I just joined Spark People. I am a Type 1 diabetic on a pump and count both calories and carbs. I do calorie cycling for weight loss (have lost 20 lbs) and count carbs for boluses on my insulin pump. For a couple of years, I have been using a huge printed table of every food I EVER eat with calorie count and carb count, and making a list of my intake for each day.

My daughter thinks I am in the stone age with my sheet and my daily written lists, and recently got me a smart phone. (I am 66 years old.) I downloaded your app and it is great. My problem is that although the web site provides running totals for calories, carbs, protein, and fat, the app only shows a running calorie count. To find the carb total in a meal (for insulin), I have to click on the nutrition button for each food in the meal and then add them up in my head. I wish the app showed the carbs for individual foods and meals like the web site does. It does show the carb total for the entire day, but not for a food or a meal. Is there any way to adjust settings in the app or the site to show carbs as well as calories?

As long as you log into the app with the same username and password that you use on the site, then yes, it will sync with the website. As for the scanner, if you scan a food, you are able to add it to your favorites.

Hope that helps!

Morning all, can somebody please answer these two questions about the app - 1. does it sync with the website, so if I food track whilst I'm out and about it goes onto my tracker on my laptop, and 2. can I add favourite foods using the bar scanner? Loving the website, feeling very motivated, and want to be able to keep tracking as I go.

Here's to ... feeling healthier, feeling happier, achieving my goals!

We started charging for our mobile tracking apps because they require significant resources to build & maintain, but do not provide much revenue via ads (and we have to make money so that we can stay in business and support our free products)! The site is still 100% free and so is our mobile site that can be accessed on your phone's web browser (mobile.sparkpeople.com).

With that said though, the new paid app does not have those ads on it and was recently updated for easier use and allows you to spin the SparkPoints wheel. We will continue to update the paid app, but the free app is no longer being offered or updated.

I'm curious if the $3.99 app is different than the free version I have. I was telling a friend about SP and the (formerly) free app and they told me it was $3.99. I think they went with a different free calorie tracking app, but I was wondering if the pay version no longer has the banner ads that I have on the free version I downloaded a long time ago. Does anyone know? The banners come up for me when I select a food to enter and on the fitness and water pages.

It is great; I use it every day. Normally I use the computer; but I like the barcode scanner the smartphone app allows. There is no doubt that a few things could be added; especially for $3.99 but it helps me keep track when Iím away from my desktop or laptop. I wish there was a way to pay for the app and share it between devices. Highly recommended; so give it a try.

I just got a new phone Saturday...my first smart phone and it is the Samsung Galaxy. I went to load the SP app and was surprised that I had to pay since it was free on my IPad, but figured it was worth it. THEN last night while playing around and familiarizing myself with my phone I saw that you can scan barcodes for nutritional info. Now I definitely feel it is worth it! I almost switched to MFP because they had that feature, but in the end I just couldn't "cheat" on SP. emoticon

These posts were very helpful. I am going to buy the app based on the recommendations. Seems pretty inexpensive for the convenience.

I wasn't able to get those 2 methods to work so I just paid for it - thanks for confirming that was not a fluke (almost thought it was a hoax app) but I didn't mind paying the $3.99 since Spark has already helped me lose 20lbs since September!

I wish they had a message board feature on it, and I also don't think it's fair that it is not free.

MRSALLYP - Yes, the droid app is now paid. I'm not sure if there is a way for you to get your free app on your new phone, but you can try the following (depending on where you downloaded it before):

Below are instructions for purchases from Google Play and from Amazon.com's Appstore for Android.

Option A--Purchased from Google Play Store/Android Market
1. On your device, open the Google Play app.
2. Click the menu button on your phone.
3. From the options that appear, select "my apps."
4. At the top of the page, you will have the option of viewing installed or all apps. Click the button that says "all" to view all apps.
5. Scroll to find the app.
6. To the right of the app title, click the icon that says "free" to install it.

Option B--Purchased from Amazon:

I too was looking for the scanner. I've discovered here that I can access the scanner on the android based app which I have on my kobo vox ereader. Unfortunately, I have no built-in camera on my kobo. I do have a camera on my ipod touch. Unfortunately, the iphone version does not have a scanner. Can't win!

I have used the Myfitnesspal app with the scanner. I LOVE the scanner. I haven't had a mistake and if it didn't come up with a match, I always checked the result with what was in hand to see how close the cal's and fat gr's were. If close enough, then I'd just leave it as is.

I've been tracking this week with SP again because I'm trying out My Spark Coach.

I hope a scanner is added to the iphone version.

GETITDUN - I'm not sure, but it looks like it is an android device, so it should, but I can't say for certain.

Sorry I don't have a definitive answer for you, but there are numerous devices on the market and it's difficult to test on all of them. As far as I know though, some Blackberry devices are the only ones that have limitations on our app working with them. I haven't heard anything like that for android devices, but again, I can't say it will work for sure.

I am thinking about purchasing the nexus 7 ASUS 16gb tablet, do you know if I will be able to access my sparkpeople information with this? I have a straight talk phone and I can not get on it with Sparkpeople so I was looking at this tablet. Any information would help. Thanks

The app is ok but there are some things I wish it would to;

GPS!

Post workout activity to facebook from the app & for that post have some sort of graphic ( Ive seen what it looks like to post to facebook from SP website and its a very plain post something like Noom (android) fitness logger and FB connection would be ideal.

Stream line the favorites menu so you can sort by meal & improve bar code scanner ( think MyfitnessPal )

Actually if you could combine the fitness, facebook connection, hart-rate monitor connect and GPS of Noom and the meal logging of MyfitnessPal then add things relevant to SP you'd have the perfect app!!

( Sorry if I'm not supposed to name competitors by name )

Currently our app doesn't work on Storm, Style, and Torch models and it looks like yours is a Style model. We do have a mobile site that you may want to try using on your phone's browser: mobile.sparkpeople.com.

SCREAMINGFLEA - The "Food Detail" you mention comes up after you select a food from a search, but before you add it to your day. On that screen there is a large, orange "save food" button to add that food to your day. Once you are done adding food to your food tracker, you can push your phone's back button to move back to the previous screen.

Hope that helps!

I had this feature a few years ago when I had an android and now that I have one again I will download it. It was very helpful when I went to the gym. I just took my phone with me and did my suggested workout. I also like to enter my meals as I go and not wait until the end of the day.

Oh my gosh! I downloaded this app a while back, but I just used it today for the first time. It just ROCKS!!! It syncs with your trackers AND IT SCANS BARCODES...scans them...and loads all the nutritional info to your food tracker.

I emoticon this app!!!!

It should be in the store app that you use for your phone, but if you don't see it there, you can also download it from here: www.sparkpeople.com/mobile-apps.asp.
