I wouldn't say "compulsive" but I'm most successful when I do weigh daily -- both during my weight loss and during maintenance. Not saying that's the only way to go -- many people find it maddening and I certainly understand that. But for me, if I stay off the scale, I lose my main form of "reality check" about where I am and where I'm heading.

Starting Weight: 260 lbs. (November 2010)
Quasi-Maintenance: 165 lbs. (June 2011)
Goal Weight: 150 lbs. (reached December 8, 2011)

Size 22W to Size 4

Currently maintaining within 5 lbs. (+ or -) of goal. I weigh daily, but also use a tape measure and the fit of my clothes to guage how well I'm doing.

What is wrong with these home scales??? They weigh you differently every 5 minutes!!
I just get back on in a few if I don't like the numbers and they're different! LOL...
Still it can get frustrating. I KNOW there is NO way I will lose 10 lbs. overnight...haha...or gain it!
Yes, I weigh too often, but I'm trying to only pay attention weekly!

I am also guilty of weighing in every day and sometimes multiple times a day. I know I get frustrated by daily fluctuations so I do not know why I continue doing so. I am making a more conscious effort to only weigh in once per week and so far I have not weighed myself since Wednesday.

No, I usually only weigh myself one or twice a month. Any more than that and I would be angry and frustrated. The scale is not my friend. It doesn't define me, my weight, or my size.

I check also a couple of times a week because of water retention, I take a diaretic along with a couple of BP meds so I like to keep an eye on excessive water retention. I keep to one day for the official weigh in, and mostly make sure it is a day that I have slept the night before instead of working, a 12 hour shift that is busy makes for swelling in the feet and legs.

I do not own three scales as does the original person posing this question. I do, however, weigh myself at least twice per day. I know that muscle weight and water gain will cause the scale to move upwards rather than my preferred direction, so I'm not basing my results solely on such numbers... I just feel to need to hop on that scale of mine.
wouldn't want it to get dusty :)

The scale has been driving me crazy lately. I just want it to move down. Down. Down. Down.

However, I am trying to focus on how my clothes are fitting better and that I can feel my body getting stronger. But, I've still got my eyes on the scale for the long term.

Hope you find a routine that works for you and supports your goals.

Best.

Im learning that the scale doesnt give me a hug when I need or keep me from bingeing and of course I keep thinking that it will say 130lbs. Boy is that a long way for me. So, Im trying to get away from it.

I'm working on it. I used to weigh myself once a day. Now I weigh myself consistently at the same time once a week.

However, sometimes I'll find myself checking my weight 1 or 2 other times during the week. But on my weigh days, I generally weigh myself before I've eaten and in my pjs. During the days when I give in, I've already eaten at some point in the day or I'm wearing jeans. I don't expect to weigh any less, so it's not as destructive as weighing myself every day in the morning.

Yep, weigh myself every day. It's only bad if you let it consume you. For me it's a tool that keeps me accountable. I really liked the comment about it being the same as when you record your fitness or water/food intake. Its a tool. It doesn't define me, but it does help.

I feel out of sync if I don't weigh myself daily. It is a habit that I happen to be comfortable with. With my schedule, if I don't make it a daily habit I will forget to do it once a week.

I don't think of it as compulsive --
I have always weighed myself very morning --
It's like using the Tracker for Nutrition & Exercise

No. Just once a week

You can accomplish anything you set your mind too. Put one foot in front of the other and go for it.

I know weight can fluctuate but I still weigh myself every morning as soon as I get up. I find it keeps me on track and let's me know if I have to work a little harder that day. If my weight Is up one day I don't stress over it but I am more aware of my salt intake that day. Am on medications that may also affect my weight so I just watch more carefully what I am eating that trigger the gains.

I was. One of my goals is to only weigh once a week.

I'm gonna climb that mountain. Ain't no body gonna slow me down. And there ain't no way around it. Gonna leave it level with the ground. -Reba

I try to only check once a week, but if I think I feel like I weigh less I want to validate it on the scale.
