Hmmmm, coleslaw with pot pie. Never thought of that before, that actually sounds pretty good.

I doubt it's necessarily needed, but perhaps she just wanted to add a little something that won't make too much of an impact on the calorie bank. Or perhaps she was serving multiple people and wanted to add some extras.

Salad and/or fruit are good sides to have with a dish that's pretty much a meal in one.

My pot pies have vegetables and potatoes in them....why would a side be needed?

I usually don't have a side with pot pie, but sliced fruit would work as a side.

Yep, you don't really need anything with it. Rarely do I serve anything with the pot pie. Mostly because the pot pie is all I'm interested in filling up on, haha.

I make mine from scratch. The sauce, the crust, the whole 9 yards. But it's way heavy on calories because you not only have the crust made with white flour, but the sauce contains even more flour as well as butter.

Very calorie and carb-dense and it's a lot of work, but soooooooooo worth it.

Funny, I just made my first pot pie ever this week. It was delicious. I used a low cal sparkpeople recipe. My husband and I both loved it. I did not have any side dish because everything was in the pie. Chicken, mixed vegetables, cream of chicken soup, mushrooms and the pie crust. Seem to me all the food groups were covered.

Beets are not a source of starch. You could use them.

Think outside the "green salad" box. How about a beet salad, maybe a mixed fruit and vegie salad. Red cabbage salad? Chicken pot pie needs COLOR and CRUNCH! Spinach salad with strawberries and walnuts?

I rarely serve anything with my homemade chicken pot pie. After all, it's pretty much a meal in itself. But if I serve anything at all, it's usually just salad or sometimes green beans, either hot cooked green beans or a green bean salad. So I agree with the green bean selection. It's a nice side that doesn't add a ton of extra calories. I get plenty of those from the pot pie!

thanx for the ideas. If not, maybe some baked green beans with mushrooms and cashews! yummy!

Funny! I just posted the same thing on Facebook a few days ago. Usually, I wouldn't serve anything with chicken pot pie, but I was looking for a healthy low calorie side. I ended up serving mine with a salad, which turned out great. My facebook friends came up with all kinds of sides... rice, green beans, rolls, mashed potatoes, salad.
