I love my Vitamix and feel that it is going to be a vital part of my journey to thinness. I wanted to post a note regarding refurbished Vitamix's (just in case no one has posted this info yet). For those of you struggling with the cost, Vitamix sells certified refurbished units on their site. They're still pricey, but it can take a little bit of sting off. I didn't buy mine there, but my good friend did and there is no difference between hers and mine, ....except the price we paid for them. So, if you're getting close to taking the plunge but just aren't there yet because of the price, take a peek. Again, they're still not cheap there.....

This is one of the smoothies I make and it purees everything

1 c spinage
1/2 seedless cucumber with the peel on it
1/2 c cilantro
4 spears asparagus
1 c raspberries
1/2 c mixed berries
2-4 packets of stevia
1 scoop protein powder

Optional
1 TBSP olive oil or 1 TBSP peanut butter
emergen-C packet

The veggies get completely pureed in. Super yummy!! I don't make that kind everyday, just the days that my bf and I fell like we need an extra boost. Other wise its your standard smoothies with water, protein powder and fruit maybe a little peanut butter.

My vita-mixer says the professional series 300 on it. I can grind grains in it like rice to make gluten free flour or nut or bean flour in it. The one I have works excellent. It has 3 buttons on it the start / stop switch, a pulse button ( used for chopping veggies etc.) and a dial button that goes from 1 - 10. They came out with a new model, but the one I have is still available at some stores ( or at least at xmas when my boyfriend got mine it was ) but the new model ( bf showed it to me at store) the only thing that has changed is the 1-10 dial button but it still does the same thing I think it has pictures instead of number and its probably 75 -- 100 bucks more.

Oh ya rockred I would definitely get the vita mixer, its makes awesome smoothies and soups I posted a pic of one soup I made with my vita mixer on my blog page.

My husband just purchased a Ninja at Costco. I can still chew the smoothies he makes. Doesn't the Vitamix puree EVERYTHING to liquid? I think it may be worth returning the Ninja and spending more for a Vitamix. Any thoughts?

I can do hard things.

Hey sry was mia for a while here is the recipe for something similar to the strawberry lemon sorbet, I didn't find this exact recipes so i am guessing someone had altered it.

Strawberry Yogurt Freeze
1.5 c. vanilla yogurt
1.5 lbs frozen unsweetened strawberries

Put ingredients in vita mixer on variable 1
switch machine to start and then slowly turn variable nob up to variable 10.
use tamper to press ingredients into blades.
in 30 sec sound of motor will change and 4 mounds will appear.
stop machine , do not over mix as it will start to melt.
serve immediately

another option was
1 c soy milk
.5 teaspoon vanilla
.25-.5 c of sugar or use stevia product
1 lbs frozen unsweetened peach slices

So hope this helps!!

I have tried many types of things in the Vita mix. I am not too impressed with the soups. They still taste raw. I use mine for the usual things, dressings, finishing soup, smoothies, but my favorite thing is making cashew butter. I will never go back to peanut butter again.

Israel- Have you ever used your vita mixer to grind beans for bean flour? My mom had gotten me garbanzo bean flour last year and made some cookies out of it for me and then gave me the rest of the package to use. They were pretty good.

Mish--I have the vita mix cookbook i will look for the recipe in there for you and post it .

I use mine for making rice flour and then substitute the rice flour in almost all of my "wheat" recipes. My daughter's favorite is rice flour pancakes for school.

Rice flour, eggs, almond milk, sugar or applesauce, vanilla and sometimes maple syrup. Fry in teflon pan with only a dusting of oil. Taste great and a different treat. I don't use measurements, I just throw it all in.

Hi My boyfriend just bought me a vita-mix for my b-day. The one he got me came with the cook book as a special promo for xmas. I have only used it a couple time so far just to make smoothies. I have looked at the cook book but have not tried anything in there yet.

Was wondering if anyone was allergic to wheat and was using there blender for grinding wheat and gluten free grains to try to make your own bread and bread related products.

I am allergic to wheat, barley, gluten and all grains except rice, quinoa, amaranth, and the other grains from long ago that nobody has heard of.

I make hummus in mine!

Basic recipe (courtesy of the Vitamix recipe book) is:

1 tbs. olive oil
1/4 C lemon juice
1/4 c raw sesame seeds (no tahini needed!)
15 oz can of chickpeas with liquid
15 oz can of chickpeas, drained
1 garlic clove
1 tsp cumin

Add ingredients in the order listed to the blender jar and secure the lid. Select Variable 1. Turn the machine on and slowly increase to variable 10, then to high. Blend for 45 seconds. Season with salt.

Now for the variations!

Add 2 seeded jalape˝os, one bunch of cilantro (roughly chopped) and 3 tbs of lime juice.

Add a drained jar of roasted red peppers.

Add a bunch of basil (rough chopped) and a 1/2 cup of sun dried tomato (reconstituted in hot water).

I have a vitamix and love love love it!. I use it to whip up my protein shake every day. I use GNC LeanShake (Cookies and Cream) and mix with 1/2 cup almond milk, 1/2 cup water, 5 ice cubes and a small handful of frozen blackberries. Whip in the blender and you have a tall glass of yum!

I also use the blender to whip up my Protein Pancakes. 2/3 cup raw oatmeal (old fashioned), 5 egg whites, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1 tsp baking powder and 1 tsp vanilla. Blend well. I then pour pancake batter onto my non stick electric grill that I have sprayed lightly with oil. Makes 6 pancakes and I eat the whole batch! Top pancakes with warm applesauce or other topping of your choice.

Enjoy!

I don't have a Vitamix (YET), I have a knock-off that does a good job, so I can't justify spending the extra money (YET). I've been making a spinach smoothie every day. To make two large smoothies, I use two large handfuls of spinach, two oranges, about 4 mini peppers from Costco, 1/2 cup of water, and about a cup of ice. It is so refreshing and good. Does not taste like spinach. Sometimes I add raw broccoli, cucumber, sometimes cantaloupe, blueberries, watermelon, really anything that I have in my frig. I wasn't trying to be obnoxious with the "YET"...my husband was looking over my shoulder and I wanted him to get the hint that we WILL be getting a Vitamix at some point.emoticon

I tried to justify the price of buying a vitamix for years and even purchased less expensive juicer the ninja which just isn't as good as a vitamix. I finally bought one and I mostly use mine daily to make myself a protein drink using skim milk or yogurt, and all kinds of mixes of fruits and veggies whatever I have on hand. Haven't had a bad one yet. I haven't tried the soup yet but have made the ice cream in a matter of seconds and it was wonderful. My grandson loved it.

I can't think of a downside for owning it other than I wish I had bought it sooner. I was worried I wouldn't use it enough but have found I use it daily often several times a day. And the clean up is so easy. Love it.

I just gave myself a Christmas, birthday and Mother's Day present and bought a Vita Mix 5200. I only got it yesterday but I LOVE IT! We have a large organic garden and this morning I threw 2 beets, 1 cucumber, 1 apple and 1 large cantaloupe into the blender! Delicious and enough for breakfast and lunch for 2! Draw back ? I am not sure there are any!

I am thinking of buying a Vitamix. I saw a demo of it yesterday. I like smoothies, and all of the different kinds you can make. What impressed me was when the person made a soft frozen desert out of a lemon, a carrot, frozen strawberries, and a bit of ice...and it was amazing! Any drawbacks to a Vitamix (besides the price)??

We use our Vitamix everyday, usually more than once!! For smoothies: 1 serving greek yogurt (any flavor), 1 banana, 1 mango, 1 orange, 1-2 cups raw baby spinach, and a few cubes of ice (you can freeze the fruit instead of using ice). Blend, add a little water if you want. -I also freeze any leftovers for popcicles! Our whole family loves these! We often experiment with different fruits and they are always great. : )

Soup: Bake a small potato, chop and put in vitamix. I also like to slightly cook in a pan 1/2 and onion, small green pepper, and a couple cloves of garlic (you don't have to cook these at all, I just like the sweet flavor it adds). Place these in vitamix with potato, add a fresh tomato,a few baby carrots, celery stalk, and chicken stock (the more you add the thinner the soup will be), and salt/pepper to taste. Blend on high for 4-6 minutes. (when it steams, it's done). You can also add a little parmesean, sour cream, or plain greek yogurt on top of each serving. Delish! -also experiment with types of veggies, I haven't had a bad one yet!

I hope this helps!

I have one and have enjoyed this Protein Shake in the morning:

2 cups of Organic 2% Milk
1 Banana (peeled)
2 scoops of Energy First Protein Power (either flavor)
1 scoop of Greenergy (a green drink)
1 individual bag of EmerganC
3 leaves of organic Kale
2 whole organic carrots (with the green left on, not shaved)
1 cup of frozen fruit (wild blueberries and organic peaches are my fav)

No keep in mind I am about 6'5" and very active so my calorie intake is high. This will make about 7 to 8 cups and supply about 8 servings of veggies, 3 servings of fruit, and 40 grams of Protein as well as a lot of nutrients. You might need to scale it for your needs.

I have a Blendtec rather than a Vitamix, but my favorite smoothie lately is:

1 large or two small red grapefruit with the rinds cut off (less bitter than if it's peeled and the white part is left on
1/2 of a large bunch of flat parsley
1 pear, cored, with the skin
A little bit of Stevia extract if needed
Handful of ice

This is tart and herbal and I always feel great after drinking it. I never manage to eat grapefruit on their own, so this has been a good way to make use of the ones that come in my co-op basket.

You can make many soups and things with a vita mix but I use mine every morning for a blended salad/smoothie-type drink. First I juice carrots and maybe a beet, some celery, or even asparagus. Then I fill my vita mix 3/4 full with baby spinach, 1-2 tsp. chia and I also use a spoonful of maca. Then add a cup or so of your fruit of choice either fresh or frozen and blend. I love mango in it. Strawberries are great. This is a fabulous way to start your day and clean up for the vita mix is easy as it can be!!
It also makes pretty good hummus and I mix my chick peas for falafel in it, as well.
