I have started trying different cheeses for everything! My new favorite (old favorite was swiss, still love it!0 is provalone! and using sharp cheddar, lots of calories, but I use less because the flavor is so intense. I am also using fresh Parmesan alot...it is so tasty and much less in the calorie dept!
Thanks for mentioning this!

also love cheese - and try get the best quality as the taste then compensates for not using lots...so mature cheddar (use half the amount at least for macaroni and cheese for example), and parmesan (grate it myself) ...and I love a bit of blue cheese in things as well

Battyboutit I'm a little worried about you just starting out and only eating 1000 cals! I eat very close to 1200-never much over that and I'm losing 4-5 lbs a week but I'm able to walk most days too. That is all the excercise I do lol. Now SparkPeople recommends 1200-1550 cals a day for me and I never try to eat 1550 cause I want to lose a little more quickly so believe me I understand wanting to eat fewer cals to speed up the loss but at 1000 you're more likely to end up in a feeding frenzy lol when you are so hungry you wanna eat your own hand off emoticon Good luck to you! Congrats on your loss this far!

I have a friend who will not eat chicken in any form except chicken sausage. If he likes it, it has to be good!

Generally I look for the most flavorful cheeses I can find... sharp white cheddars, manchego, etc., depending on what I'm cooking. It's one thing I don't compromise on.. I'd rather eat less of it and have good stuff. Kind of like chocolate!

I used Boars Head Brand Smoked Gruyere, which is 60 cals for 1/2 ounce. Its very flavorful, and I instruct the deli counter person to slice it thin so I get 3-4 slice in 1/2 ounce. Its delicious on eggs, and in sandwiches, melts very quickly in the microwave.

If I don't have that I use Kraft 2% American, 45 cals a slice.

I am trying to cut my caloric intake to 1000 per day, so far so good, but I find on my nutrition tracker that I really need more protein. This is onlly my first week, I am too heavy to excercise very much, so I thought if I loose some weight first I will be more able to work out.
I am also interested in low cal alcholic beverages, I know beer is not going to be my friend anymore, maybe white wine or vodka?
I use to drink a 12 pk of Bud per week, I know I am going to need a lil somethng.
So far I am losing about a pound a day.! Ya!!!!

Delicious suggestions, thanks!
I allow an hour at the supermarket to read nutrition labels.
Careful choices can cut hundreds of calories.
This was really helpful.

I do Crossfit so I tend to eat higher protein too. I LOVE chicken sausage (especially the spicy ones) cut up and mixed with scrambled egg in the morning. We grill a whole bunch of chicken sausage on the weekend when we have the grill on and they are ready to go for the week!

I also replaced Colby Jack with neufchatel cheese. Tastes very similar to cream cheese and much lower in fat. I can only find it at my Giant.

I'm not vegetarian or vegan, but I've just discovered vegetarian sausages - YUM! They're full of flavour and are very good for you. You can eat them just as they are, or chop them and put them through a stir fry, a salad or a casserole.

Make everywhere you go a little bit better than when you arrived...

I bodybuild and love cheese and meat and the stuff that typically loads your nutrition plan down. But I thought I would pass it along that recently I started using a variety of cheeses for tacos and other things. What i have found is that cheeses like smoked gouda or australian white chedder is about the same nutrition wise as other common cheeses like colby jack. But the difference is one slice of smoked gouda about 60-80 cal 6 grams of fat depending on what brand you get is twice as flavorful. I have been able to use half the amount of these cheeses as I used to use of colby jack. So try some more exotic cheese choices on your everyday foods. One more thing Look for Old World Brand Chicken Sausages if you want some real flavor for about 130 Calories 6-8 grams of fat. Just though you guys might like to some of what is getting me along on this struggle.
