I tried savoury porridge for the first time, cut some trimmed of fat bacon into strips, fried with a little onion, then added the oats already soaked in water and cooked until thick.

When I was eating quaker oatmeal I would add 1/4 cup organic unsweetened applesauce. Ive just switched to Steel Cut Oats and add a Tbsp of Flaxseed, some walnuts and protein powder!! So delicious and filling.

I've been into savory oatmeal -- you can cook steel cut oats like risotto, with garlic and veggies and maybe a little cheese on top. Yum!

I make a batch of oatmeal that provides me with 4 servings. I eat one on day one then keep the rest in the fridge to microwave for subsequent breakfasts.
I use Bob's Red Mill Scottish. If I want more texture I add some plain steel cut oats. I like it creamy so I usually put it in liquid to soak the night before though this isn't necessary. ( Other adds - tapioca makes it really creamy and unflavored metamucil can be added for extra fiber) 1/2 C oats, 280kcal 1 1/2 C almond Breeze original, 90kcal 2 C Good Earth tea (no caffeine), 0kcal 1/2 C fat free 1/2 and 1/2, 80 kcal Toroni vanilla syrup sugar free and splenda salt, butter flavoring or splurge and use some 1/2 calorie butter. You can add cinnamon, nutmeg, cardomom
This is ~ 115 kcal per serving before adding butter stuff
Another thing you can do with oatmeal is make it savory. Add onions and a little sausage, even a little cheese. If you chill it in a block you can take slices and fry it in a little fat or Pam.

Chopped prunes and raspberries are good together in oatmeal. Sometimes I prepare my oatmeal using prune juice in place of the water. I sweeten it with molasses or honey or whole sugar. I use soy milk or sometimes non fat vanilla yogurt and whatever fruit or nuts I have handy. I saw a recipe on this site that suggested adding pumpkin and pie spice. That was very good.

On my oatmeal I put cinnamon & Splenda. I also put grapes (not raisins) after I've cooked the oatmeal. While my husband insists on raisins I can eat more grapes for flavor & volume than can raisins. I may put frozen berries in the middle before I cook it in the microwave. It just takes 2 minutes for 1/2 cup of oatmeal. I sometimes use low fat butter but I don't miss butter with the cinnamon. For health I often put a tablespoon of ground fax seed on it too.

My family likes it when I add a chopped apple and cinnamon with a small amount of brown sugar

Has anyone checked out the Quaker Oats ad on the site (or Quaker Oats web site)? They have some awesome sounding combinations like cherries, chocolate chips & almonds.. or pineapple, banana, coconut and graham cracker

I like to put applesauce and walnuts...no sweetener or milk.

I normally like the flavored oatmeal packets. I slowly have switched to plain and add blueberries. I went blueberry picking with my mom and froze 1 cup bags. I love to put about 10 berries on just before I microwave and a splash of light soy milk.

I personally try to over cook it.I even whole oatmeal is fine with a few minutes in the micro. It tastes better to me and is not soggy.Texture is always good.

soy milk and walnuts - then I get my protein, too!
On World Vegetarian Day, most people aren't willing to trade in their turkey for tofurkey. Luckily, you can still reap the benefits of vegetarianism by trying flexitarianism on for size.
