Oatmeal 1/2 cup w/ hot water microwave 30 sec. add 1 TBS walnuts and eat a medium banana on the side. It is so good. I eat this almost every morning

Even when your day does not go the way you wanted it to, remember there is always tomorrow to start your day all over again.

I tried savoury porridge for the first time, cut some trimmed of fat bacon into strips, fried with a little onion, then added the oats already soaked in water and cooked until thick.

I've been into savory oatmeal -- you can cook steel cut oats like risotto, with garlic and veggies and maybe a little cheese on top. Yum!

I make a batch of oatmeal that provides me with 4 servings. I eat one on day one then keep the rest in the fridge to microwave for subsequent breakfasts.

I use Bob's Red Mill Scottish. If I want more texture I add some plain steel cut oats. I like it creamy so I usually put it in liquid to soak the night before though this isn't necessary. ( Other adds - tapioca makes it really creamy and unflavored metamucil can be added for extra fiber)
1/2 C oats, 280kcal
1 1/2 C almond Breeze original, 90kcal
2 C Good Earth tea (no caffeine), 0kcal
1/2 C fat free 1/2 and 1/2, 80 kcal
Toroni vanilla syrup sugar free and splenda
salt, butter flavoring or splurge and use some 1/2 calorie butter. You can add cinnamon, nutmeg, cardomom

This is ~ 115 kcal per serving before adding butter stuff

Another thing you can do with oatmeal is make it savory. Add onions and a little sausage, even a little cheese. If you chill it in a block you can take slices and fry it in a little fat or Pam.

Chopped prunes and raspberries are good together in oatmeal.
Sometimes I prepare my oatmeal using prune juice in place of the water. I sweeten it with molasses or honey or whole sugar. I use soy milk or sometimes non fat vanilla yogurt and whatever fruit or nuts I have handy.
I saw a recipe on this site that suggested adding pumpkin and pie spice. That was very good.

Receipe for you: [usually with porridge] Mix 1/2 cup dry oats [cooked w/ water to desired consistency] with 1/4 dark choc bits and 1 cup raspberries [or other berries in season]= 419 cal/1754 kJ. Dark choc is a good fat [monounsaturated fatty acids that target belly fat], combined with exercise will assist in weight lose. Or so I'm informed. emoticon

On my oatmeal I put cinnamon & Splenda. I also put grapes (not raisins) after I've cooked the oatmeal. While my husband insists on raisins I can eat more grapes for flavor & volume than can raisins. I may put frozen berries in the middle before I cook it in the microwave. It just takes 2 minutes for 1/2 cup of oatmeal. I sometimes use low fat butter but I don't miss butter with the cinnamon. For health I often put a tablespoon of ground fax seed on it too.

cinnamon most of the time with just a sprinkle of brown sugar. Sometimes just a few mini choc chips to get my choc fix

Banana, generous sprinkling of cinnamon, artificial sweetener. I love oatmeal--old fashioned oats specifically.

Wheat germ and bananas or strawberries! And I always make my oatmeal with milk, sometimes soymilk. I've made oatmeal with chocolate soymilk before; it's a bit sweet, but really good.

Lately, I've been rocking this oatmeal:

- 1/3 cup oats
- 2 tablespoons ground chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon nutella
- 1 small banana, sliced (on top)
- 1/4 cup Kashi Go Lean crunch (on top)

I'm thinking of doing a more seasonal one soon:

- 1/3 cup oats
- 2 tablespoons ground chia seeds
- 1/4 cup pumpkin (canned + OK)
- 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin spice
- 1/3 cup vanilla yogurt
- 1/4 cup kashi go lean crunch (on top)

I normally buy the flavored vaiety packs. But when I do eat plain I like to add a little splenda brown sugar. It sweetens it up without all the calories. Honey is great too!

Frozen raspberries, I like the tart against the sweet of flavored oatmeal and as they thaw they blend nicely.

Yesterday I topped it with apple sauce (put the cored apple in a pot with a little water and cook until the apple is soft) and today with a Tbls of blackberry preeserves. Both were yummy. emoticon

Has anyone checked out the Quaker Oats ad on the site (or Quaker Oats web site)? They have some awesome sounding combinations like cherries, chocolate chips & almonds.. or pineapple, banana, coconut and graham cracker

I normally like the flavored oatmeal packets. I slowly have switched to plain and add blueberries. I went blueberry picking with my mom and froze 1 cup bags. I love to put about 10 berries on just before I microwave and a splash of light soy milk.
