Okay, just to update you -- the final loaf weighs 712 grams, but when I entered 712 servings, the software did NOT like that. It told me that I had to enter a number of servings from 1-99 (or a similar range.) So I switched my scale to ounces and got 1 lb 9 oz. So I entered 25 servings as the yield. That means that if I cut a slice of bread and it weighs 3 1/2 oz, I enter 3.5 servings, right? (The end result is more sodium than I would prefer, but oh well, next time I'll try cutting the salt even further!)

Yes, I totally see what you're saying. That would be incredibly confusing unless I included a note explaining why I'd done it that way. Thanks so much for the help! The bread is in the machine now. :-)

I'm glad it might work for you!

If you shared it, it would still be editable. I was thinking more that you'd have members really confused about how it made hundreds of serving per loaf :). If you explained it in the description, though, and it's your own recipe, it would be perfectly fine to share!

THANK YOU. I'm going to make the bread tomorrow and try that; it does make sense to me and I don't think I would have thought of it on my own. I was really scratching my head over how to figure this out and I really, really appreciate the advice!

(Once I share the recipe, is it no longer editable?)

Hi,

I don't know if this solution would work for you, but this is what I would do:

I would make a private recipe for the bread (not shared). Once it's baked and cooled and I'd weighed weighed the entire loaf, I would enter the total number of servings in the calculator as equal to the # of grams (or ounces, whichever you use). For example, if the loaf weighed 475 grams I'd enter that it made 475 "servings."

Then, when I weigh each individual slice, I can enter the number of grams in the "servings" field. If the slice weighed 40 grams, I'd enter 40 servings and the calculator would show the correct number of calories.

Okay, so I added a recipe that I use often -- it's to make a loaf of bread in our bread machine. Bread is tricky, though -- sometimes I have to add a little more water to get the dough to come together, which wouldn't change the total calories/nutrients of the finished project, but sometimes I have to add some more flour, which would. And sometimes the loaf of bread is bigger than other times. And sometimes I am better at cutting even slices than other times. So while I can say "yield: 10 slices of bread," some slices are considerably heavier than others.

What I need is a way to figure out how the calories and other nutrients of one slice of bread would be calculated. I can weigh the final loaf of bread, then weigh each individual slice before I eat it: but is there a way to use the SparkPeople recipe calculator thing to figure out the calories and nutrients once I've done this? HELP, MATH IS HARD.
