Hi,

I was browsing and found this great idea! I had a clue about the calorie count before. I've used it in lieu of flour in making a white sauce, but didn't know the nutritional value until now.

What a find! emoticon

Thanks!

Going to have to try out the cornstarch instead of making a rue with flour and butter for homemade mac n cheese. You make a slurry with it first, right then add it to what your trying to thicken?

I use cornstarch regularly to thicken gravy and sauces because we must be gluten free. It is also good to use as a dusting on meat before you brown it and add it to stir frys.

I heard that corn meal it is good for putting in meatballs to help make them stick. Then you bake before putting in sauce. I am going to try it because I usually use oatmeal which has many calories.

I use cornstarch as thickener for my homemade hamburger helper variants. Not only does it thicken nicely, it doesn't get lumpy like flour when added to liquids!

Thanks for the tip! I use it when thickening sauce, but haven't used it in any other applications yet.

Did you know that corn starch has 2xs the thickening power as flour so you use 1/2 as much with 1/2 the calories.!
