WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time.
A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Put together your own Spark page. This is a great way to communicate with other members and build relationships that will support and motivate you. You can do this by going to the START page and the green section has something about your Sparkpage.
2. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
3. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Hi Everyone - My name is LiseAnne and I'm from the land of ice and snow: Canada1 About a year ago, at age 58, I had a bit of an epiphany. As I approached my 60's I realized that the path I was on would lead to higher and higher blood pressure, diabetes and other health issues. I was about 80 lbs overweight and had been ignoring the warning signs.
I was also very tired of paying people to help me lose weight, only to gain it back; and paying people to help me excercise, only to relapse into a sedetary lifestyle.
I decided that there should be a way to eat and excercise as a lifestyle change. So I googled many foods and watched some great videos including ":Vegecated" nd "Food Matters" and "Forks over Knives". I decided to give up eating beef, lamb, pork, hicken, turkey and duck for one month. I still ate everything else including eggs and lots of fish I did not lose any weight, but my blood pressure dropped from 148/98 to 123/68 in one month, and I started feeling a lot better.
The next month I stayed with no "meat" and kicked soy. Again, didn't lose much weight, but felt even better (apparently my platelets were less sticky My blood pressure went down a bit more. I maybe lost 4 lbs.
The next month I kicked fructose and lost about 10 lbs. The next month I kicked most dairy and lost 16 lbs. My blood pressure continued to drop and is now 105/63 at rest, and 115/68 when I am active. I have lost about 35 lbs and kept it off. But after about six months on this plateau, I wanted more.
I stumbled on the sparkpeople website, and today is my first day tracking my food intake. I am now taking vitamens and need to balance my carbs, fats and proteins as well as track excercise.
I have decided to excercise 5 times per week, and alternate Arms, with Legs, with Core workouts. Will keep you posted --- and best of luck to all of you on your goals too!
