emoticonemoticonemoticon WELCOME TO SPARK!!! emoticonemoticonemoticon
Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time.

A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.

1. Put together your own Spark page. This is a great way to communicate with other members and build relationships that will support and motivate you. You can do this by going to the START page and the green section has something about your Sparkpage.

2. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.

3. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.

The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Spark friends are here for support, motivation and encouragement. Good luck on your journey to a healthier lifestyle! Again, welcome to the SP family!

Hi Katherine!

I am also a vet, been out longer then you (30yrs).
Going to school (have been doing that as well)
sure adds to the stress. However, if you set
your mind to it, you can do it!

Something that has helped me a lot is to
make a goal of one pound per week, increase
your exercise by 10 min and lower your calories
by 500 calories a day then you will lose a
pound a week with little? impact on your busy life.

Good luck, this is a great place to lose the weight!

Hello my name is Katherine. ...Okay so this May marks my 10 yr anniversary of getting out of the Army (125-135 lbs). In that time I have slowly put on 60 lbs. I started nursing school a year ago and I have put on 30 lbs over the last year. So half of my weight gain has been in the last year :( !!!! When I hit 180 I stopped weighing myself. Then my clothes kept getting tighter and tighter. I got on the scale a week ago (face your fear) I was 195.6. I AM DONE BEING FAT AND UNHEALTHY!!!! How can I look at my patients and tell them to be healthy when I need to be healthy first!!! I don't know how I got here. Is it the stress? Is it the lack of activity? Is it realistic to try and lose the weight while going to school? Do I really stress eat that bad? I don't know. All I know is that for the last week I have been getting my 10k steps in every day and controlling my portion sizes. The hardest thing for me right now is the battle over environment. I live with family (all overweight) and I don't have control over what food comes in to the house. This is a battle for me. I can get past not buying it, but once it's in the house it's tough. I am waging a war on my environment and my emotional eating. I have control over everything I do and eat. Please help me fight the battle!!! All my love and support, Katherine.
