WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time. A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
2. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Spark friends are here for support, motivation and encouragement. Good luck on your journey to a healthier lifestyle! Again, welcome to the SP family! *~ Paula *~

Hello MOHITSARMY! I think it is great that you are recognizing that you need to make changes and are doing something about it! That is the first step. I too am starting to make changes and enjoy getting on Spark People website everyday. Follow the steps and set up your own personal goals. I set small goals and give myself credit for attaining them (no matter how small they are!). For example, I eliminated sugar out of my coffee this week. I love coffee and found out that I love it without the sugar too! Look at all the empty calories I have saved this week, considering I have at least three cups a day! Attaining that goal has given me the inspiration I needed to set another goal. My next goal is to have some type of activity every day. I work 14 hour shifts overnight and sometimes I just can't do a full workout. I decided that on my workdays if I can't manage a workout I would at least manage 5-10 minutes of stretches before and after work. At least I am doing something I can give myself credit for. I figure small changes will eventually add up to a big change!
Best wishes on your own personal journey to a healthier you!
If you truly count your blessings, you may find they add up more than counting your sorrows!

Well you have taken the first step.... it is all about baby steps, I am kind of new to SP but not to the battle of health. I would love to lose about 200# but I can not even look at that number without freaking out. so I am focusing on 30 then 50 then 100 and then start over. I love SP per you find that you really are not alone. You can do it..... we are here for each other to keep pushing toward that goal.
It sounds like you have a lot of stuff in your past, that's the great thing, that you don't have to let your past dictate to your future. Today is the day that your whole life can turn towards health and wellness. Thanks for sharing, enjoy your new road, learning about yourself and from others as you work towards your new goals in life.

I am 37 and been through a lot in my life, like most people. I want to lose 150 lbs. I was in the military and got hurt very badly. I got a head injury and hurt my back. I gained 100 lbs after getting out in one year and steadily gained some more since then. My eating habits were bad and mostly I was eating just trying to feel better. Now I got diagnosed with having type 2 diabetes and that has really motivated me. It is not bad and the doctor thinks it will be like pregnant women who get gestational diabetes. It goes away after they have the baby. He says if since I haven't had it very long and I still young, I probably won't have any permanent effects. I've decided enough is enough and that I want to lose this weight. I feel better when I do and I need to break the emotional bonds to food. I have been reading a lot about vegetarian and vegan diets. That might be too tough for me to handle just yet. My main goal is to eat healthier. Sparkpeople seems to provide many healthy eating plans, options, and articles. My family needs to eat the same meals, maybe. I think it would be a lot of work to fix 3 different meals. 1 for our daughter and 1 for the wife too. I find it nearly impossible to get myself to go alone to the gym. I go sometimes with my mom and do water aerobics. I lost 25 lbs just doing that but gained some weight over the holidays and have not started back except 2 days since. Eventually, the exercise will fall in line, 3-5 days a week. I am pretty confident in that. My diet not so much, I have 37 years bad habits to rewire. I also fear I have damaged my arteries. Working on the vegan book about reversing heart disease. That seems like a monumental task at the moment to do something like that and figure out how to work it into the family diet too. It all takes time, I look forward to finding what works and having a happy and healthy life with minimal pain.
