You can tell that there are a lot of us who have to make a few trial runs when there is an icon for it! This is my 3rd time here, and I have been successful.
Write down why you want to lose weight. List all the reasons why those extra pounds are burdensome. That is your motivation. Post them by your phone, in your car, on the bathroom mirror, next to the kitchen sink....
Part 2 is determining whether wanting to reach that goal is worth the effort needed to do so. If you do not think it is worth it, nobody else can help you to get there. If you DO think it is worth the trouble and hard work, nothing can stop you! We can encourage you, we can help you through the temptations and hard spots, but we cannot give you the motivation to do something that you do not want to do.
Part 3 is your plan. How do you plan to lose the weight that you have decided is worth the effort to lose? Will it be dieting? How? Calories? How many? Atkins? Weight Watchers? What kind of exercise and how much are you prepared to do at this point? If you don't have a plan, you will continue doing the same thing you are doing now and that isn't helping you to get to where you want to be..... which brings us to step 4...
Part 4- What is your goal? You can set an ultimate goal, but 50# is a lot to look at. You need to set smaller measurable goals. Not all of them should or have to do with weight. Perhaps it is to move for 10 minutes straight. That movement might be walking, dancing, jogging or marching in place. You might want to get below a certain milestone number (those over 200# tend to strive for ONE-derland). Or look at a 5% weightloss. YOU decide the goals.
Now put these all together and get this plan in motion.
MEASURE YOUR SERVINGS! Our minds are sneaky and we vastly underestimate what we are eating. TRACK EVERYTHING THAT GOES IN YOUR MOUTH! If you write it down, it is real. Don't try to remember at the end of the day. Do it immediately after you eat if not before. MOVE! It probably won't be much at first. 15 minutes on the bike was hard for me at first and I had to ice my knee afterward. After several weeks I tried the elliptical trainer. I couldn't do a minute. Now I can do an hour without any problem. The fact is, you CAN do this! I am proof of it.

Hello! Just never give up. Consider this a one-way journey and the destination is not optional. If you have a bad day just press on! You CAN do this. I too have R.A. and have fought hard to lose 100+ pounds. It took a long time but it can be done.

I hope your experience on SP helps you. Sorry you lost and gained back on WW. I lost 25lbs on the point system a couple of years ago before they changed to the new program. I didn't lose anything when switching over. So I went back on the original one I started with and lost some more weight. When my youngest daughter and grandbabies moved in with us for awhile I found it too difficult to stay on the program. I gained a few lbs but lost it again after they moved into their own place. Whew !

Hey Disappointed, Yeah, we have been there before. Up and Down..This time it is fureal. Do this FOR YOURSELF. Follow the calories and DO NOT eat more then you should - NO MATTER WHAT. I have said that I carry my lunch with me (my fat). If I forget to be prepared in any situation - like going out to eat and the restaurant only has high calories - then I DO NOT EAT. The hunger can wait. Heck - my fat will eventually kill me, I would rather live.
Wow, I've been there. Lose it, gain it. Actually I am there probably every other week. But I do know that I just have to eat better, and eat less. When I am serious, and really watch what I am doing, I lose. It is also very easy for me to kid myself into thinking that third slice of pizza won't hurt. I am trying to stay more focused. I'd love to cheer you on. Hopefully you can kick me in the rear when I need it. I am not sure how to use this site and to add friends. I'm working on that,too. Good luck!
After counting my blessings, the extra pounds don't seem that important. I can do this.

Just stick to healthy eating (lots of fruit & veggies) and exercise when you can and you will get there. I know how you feel this journey can be very disappointing at times but you will receive many great rewards too. You said you lost 5 pounds and gained back 4, hey that is still one pound down.
Hi sp. So I have been here before. Tried the ww program lost 5 pounds. Gained 4 back. I'm am so depressed I have that I can't just get this right. I have had a hard couple of years. 4 surgery's Ra flares now heal pain. Since my last surgery I just don't have any engery. I'm afraid I won't ever be happy with myself again. I hope writing here will help. I really need it
