WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time. A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
2. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Welcome to SparkPeople. I urge you not to overwhelm yourself or push yourself too hard. Perfectionism or over-doing it is not necessary, and in fact can be counter-productive.
Instead of over-doing it, concentrate on making gradual changes that you can integrate fully. Starting with 15 minutes a day of walking or other activity is a great idea.

Started DASH Diet Weight Loss Solution (book by Marla Heller, M.S., R.D.) on 3/8/2013. Lost 40 lbs total and reached goal weight on 10/23/2013. Practicing maintenance (through setbacks) with commitment and enthusiasm!

Start small. These lifestyle changes don't happen over night. You incorporate goals one by one over time. As far as fitness, start with 10 minutes a day and work your way up. I would also suggest the sparkcoach program to help incorporate goals little by little. Try not to be too stressed. You can do this!

Hi Beth, Welcome to SP! The best way to get started is to just take it one step/ one day at a time. There is no need to overwhelm yourself. If you think it would benefit you to join a challenge, do so. Walking is a good way to start out too. Just start with 15 minutes or so and then build up as you go. Members here are supportive and helpful so post on your Spark Teams. It will help keep you accountable and you will meet some great people too.

Ok, so 8 years ago had first baby. Now, sitting at 212 pounds - almost 60 pounds heavier than first weigh in when I learned I was pregnant. I have no idea where to begin. Do I walk? Do I take boot camp and risk killing myself? Need some advice on how to get started when I am feeling totally overwhelmed and hopeless
