I thought I'd take a moment to write a little about myself and how I came to be here; my introduction if you will
A little over a year ago, I decided I was fed up. Fed up with myself and the way I was living my life. You see, last time I had weighed myself, oh about two and a half years ago (1/4/11), I was 260 lbs. Now this was after my cast came off from when I broke my leg; strangely enough I weighed the same as when I broke my leg, although my unbroken leg and biceps got very toned from the workout the crutches put me through.
Afterward, I could see that I was steadily gaining the fat back, but I didn’t bother to step on a scale to see how much; I think I was afraid. I had an inkling that I was breathing down 300’s back. Jeans that had become lose slowly became way too small. And still, I ate rich foods and watched T.V. after work, not bothering to do any physical activity at all.
Almost four years ago now, my now-husband Rick and I decided to try to eat more healthy, and I decided to quit smoking on top of it. We stopped going to fast food restaurants for dinner, we avoided eating out like the plague. I’ve been cigarette free ever since. He steadily lost weight, while I yoyo'ed by 20 lbs. A week later I broke my leg.
We fell off the wagon, things got too hard, funds too tight. It almost seemed like circumstances were against us. It wasn’t as convenient to eat healthy. Other things had priority.
In May, I read about the Reboot Cleanse program; consuming vegetable and fruit juice for a set period (juice you juiced yourself). It cleansed my body and I felt fantastic! I lost 20 lbs., putting me from 288 right before my wedding this past May, to 265 as of last Friday (8/23). I've maintained primarily a vegetable based diet, with meat added in as a secondary ingredient rather than the primary, and I smooth a lot of my meals.
I found SparkPeople from reading an article with tips from trainers who had previously been fat. One suggested SparkPeople as a great tool. After exploring the site over the last few days, I find myself in agreement.
This site is definitely geared toward creating lasting lifestyle changes and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better while implementing those changes.
