Thank you all for your welcoming and supportive replies. I'd be happy to be buddies or share support with any of you, though I'm sure quite sure how that works. Feel free to message me.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, although I am older and my kids are grown. I've been an on again, off again sparkpeople user but really need to get my health under control.

My husband and I were on a wonderful vacation this summer and I really struggled with knee pain and fatigue to the point where it almost ruined our trip. I pushed through it but know it's time to change my lifestyle.

Hello All!

I'm excited to be here and finally ready to reach out for support from others, and to give support in return. I am 35 years old and have been heavy since childhood. I am 5'8" and haven't weighed less than 200 lbs. since the beginning of college, and for most of my adult life I have been between 235 and 260 lbs. (even heavier during my pregnancies).

A year ago today, I logged on to Sparkpeople and entered my weight at 256 lbs. This morning, I was 231.4. That's almost 25 lbs. gone in a year, and though that may not seem like much, it feels like a lot to me. I am down a size or two, depending on the brand, and I've thrown away almost all of my pants because they no longer fit. My waistline is back, and I feel more feminine. I have more energy and feel healthier. It's a start, and I am ready to keep going in earnest.

Over the past year, I haven't followed any specific diet -- I've just tried to eat healthier, avoid refined carbs, cut back on portions, and get a little more active. There have been plenty of holidays, social gatherings, etc. where I have not been careful at all, but obviously the overall trend is in the right direction because I have lost weight. During the week I usually walk 1 mile after work, and on weekends I try to go for a walk or else do an exercise tape. It's always hard to find time, because I work full-time and have two small children (ages 4 and 1.5), but I'm trying.

My goal for the next year is just to keep losing, and maybe up the pace a little. My ultimate goal would be to be around 175-180 lbs., or roughly a size 10-12. (Right now, I'm a size 16-18, whereas a year ago I was an 18-20). I don't want to be skinny, as I would like to keep my curves -- but I do want to be healthy and to lose the rolls and the bulk.

I would be thrilled to reach my goal weight in a year, which would be about 50 lbs. But I think I'd be happy to lose another 25 lbs., too. As long as I keep moving downward, I'm going to try not to be too hard on myself. So my goal is to lose between 25 and 50 lbs. over the next year.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here, hope to "meet" others soon and share inspiration and support. I am feeling really positive and optimistic, because this past year is the first time in my life I have lost weight continually instead of yo-yoing. So I'm starting to think, hey, maybe I really can do this!

All the best,
Lila
