Hi, This is my first post to this site. I am new. My sister told me about this site and I think it may be something that will help me get back on track. I had gastric bypass surgery in Jan. of 2006. Before I had my surgery I had to lose 125 pounds before the surgeon would do it. My highest weight was 525 pounds. I got down to 400 and had my surgery. I was able to lose another 104 pounds. I was proud of myself and all of the hard work. In March of 2008 two weeks after starting a new job, I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. I had a complete hysterectomy. I had several complications and almost died. I ended up in a nursing home, (At 47 years old). I gained almost 80 pounds back. I was very devastated. I did lose about 40 pounds. But then I gave up. It wasn't until I went to a new primary care dr and got weighed this past January. The nurse asked me to step onto the scale. I was 396 pounds. I was crushed. I had gained ALL of my weight back. The dr asked me what was wrong and I told her that my surgery was a waist of time and money and energy because I was 4 pounds away from where I was before my surgery, She told me "It is okay, we can work on this". Then she told me she had had the same surgery. She has been a true inspiration to me. She gave me a 5-day plan to get restarted. I thought about it for almost a month before I actually started. They announced a Biggest Loser Contest at work, I decided to enter. I lost alot right away.I lost 26 pounds, but in the week before we were supposed to finish the contest I really messed up. I gained about 9 pounds so my final weightloss for the contest was just 13 pounds. (We still don't know the final results of the contest). My asthma doctor suggested that I meet a surgeon about redoing the gastric bypass. I met with him today. I was very happy when the nurse asked me to step up onto the scale. I was down to 361. That means that since January when I went to my primary care dr. I have lost 37 pounds. The dr. I saw today said we will not be redoing the surgery. But he also said that he really thinks I can do it. I will go to him about once every 3-4 months. They will help me work on losing weight. I think with their help and with the help of this website I should be able to do an awesome job. I look forward to using the tools on this website.

WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time.
A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Put together your own Spark page. This is a great way to communicate with other members and build relationships that will support and motivate you. You can do this by going to the START page and the green section has something about your Sparkpage.
2. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
3. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Spark friends are here for support, motivation and encouragement. Good luck on your journey to a healthier lifestyle! Again, welcome to the SP family! *~ Paula *~
