WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time.
A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Put together your own Spark page. This is a great way to communicate with other members and build relationships that will support and motivate you. You can do this by going to the START page and the green section has something about your Sparkpage.
2. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
3. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. It's great to have you with us. You're right. This is a great community of people who are striving to lead a healthier lifestyle.
For me, it has really helped to consider this a lifestyle change. I've been on SparkPeople on and off since 2007 but every day is still a day when I have to choose whether to exercise or not, whether to eat healthy or not...
Many people here find it helpful to start slowly and make a couple things into good, solid habits (for example, tracking foods or exercise or drinking water). When those things are solid, then they add some more.
Explore the great tools here on SparkPeople and ask questions if you have any.
After you've gotten used to the tools, I would also encourage you to consider creating a SparkPage and writing a couple of blogs. It can be a great way to share your success and your struggles, and get specific feedback and support from people who can relate.

A band is a very useful item to buy ,not expensice . You can look at excersies for the fitness band beffore you buy one .Just go to the videos under the tab on the home page .

Hello everyone, my name is Krystal and I am 20 years old. I'm new to SparkPeople, and the idea of a lifestyle change rather than a restrictive diet in order to lose weight. I'm here because I need help. I come from a family of overweight people, who are all starting to lose weight. And I don't want to be the last overweight one! I've had a problem with my weight for as long as I can remember. But, the last 2 years (ever since graduation) have been the worst. I've gained about 100 lbs. since February of 2011 and am up to about 270 lbs. I am lucky to have been blessed with the fact that when I gain weight it spreads out, so it hasn't all accumulated in one place. My problem is that the method the rest of my family uses to lose weight (Medifast) just isn't for me. I've tried it and failed too many times to count. I want a lifestyle change I can maintain, not a diet that causes me to feel constantly deprived and listless. I actually love to work out, but I feel like I'm not doing the right things to acheive what I want. I'm a student, with a student budget, so I can't afford a gym membership or lots of at-home equipment. So, here I am, reaching out to a community of people trying to do exactly what I want to do. Any and all suggestions are more than welcome and greatly appreciated.
