emoticon It is tough, but try to take baby steps and you WILL succeed.

Welcome to sparks so glad you found us

Take a few minutes to make up a sparkpage making it public allowing members to post a message on it to you

Also don't forget to participate on all the groups you have joined as that is where you will get a lot of encouragement and motivation

Today is a new day

Unless the Lord had given me help I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When I said, 'My foot is slipping' your love O Lord supported me. When anxiety was great within me your consulation brought joy to my soul (Psalm 94:17-19)

I never had a problem with my weight up until the last few years having been a competitive gymnast in my younger years.

I had a huge wakeup call at the beginning of February when I had a call from my Doctor to say that my recent blood tests had shown my cholesterol level was extremely high at 7.8. This was the push I needed to make me realise that my diet and lack of exercise were beginning to affect my health and as my mum who passed away at 62 years of age had a history of strokes it made me re-evaluate my priorities in life.

Since that phone call not one piece of chocolate has passed my lips (pretty good going for someone who couldn't live without at least 2 bars a day!), I have been going to the gym as regularly as I can (14 hour work days make it a challenge) and I've worked my way up to running 5k on the treadmill three times per week - pretty good going since I hadn't been able to run for 5 mins without feeling as though I was going to die - and strength training 3 days a week.

I have lost 15 lbs since 7 January and I probably have another 28 lbs to go to get to 10 stone (I'm 5ft 7 so any lighter makes me look gaunt).

Its hard work but I know that for my long term health I need to do this - there is no quick fix and its going to be hard.

I am very lucky that I have a partner who is incredibly supportive and gives me all the encouragement and love that I could ask for.

My new motto is Fit and 40, not Fat and 40 (I will be 40 in June 2014) and have given myself 18 months to reach this target.

Laura
