Moderation. Isn't that the kicker? I can either avoid junk food entirely or fall prey to it. If I start to eat cookies or cake, then the cravings can set in and I can easily go overboard. "Oh well, it's over now for today; I can start anew tomorrow", I think. So that's definitely a challenge for me, as well. Some things that help me with this mentality is thinking of calorie alottment as money. I only have a certain amount to deal with and that's all I can spend, period. This anology works for me sometimes, because I know what it is to be on a budget, and you can't have more money than you have no matter how much you wish you did. So, I can either go into my account and withdraw 'money' for the day or work for it by exercising extra hard. But a cookie doesn't seem worth an hour of kickboxing class. So, avoidance is still my best strategy. Just keep trying. Give yourself purposeful (and moderate) cheats with temptations, knowing that you have to stop, and giving yourself a good reward when you do. Set yourself up for success, even if it's just a game you are playing with yourself. Each little success will begin to create habit.

WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time.
A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Put together your own Spark page. This is a great way to communicate with other members and build relationships that will support and motivate you. You can do this by going to the START page and the green section has something about your Sparkpage.
2. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
3. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Spark friends are here for support, motivation and encouragement. Good luck on your journey to a healthier lifestyle! Again, welcome to the SP family! *~ Paula *~

I need to lose weight for myself and my health. When I start my diet I feel confident that is will do it the someone comes by with some cake or candy and then I binge. I go to the Grocery store and I feel like I can't control myself,I buy junk. Don't know the meaning of the word moderation. When I try to eat in moderation I get a taste for the sweets and I can't stop. I just feel so out of control. Any suggestions?
