Welcome to SP from sunny Central Florida. You will find others with those ailments on spark teams. They will be able to support you much better the I can, since I have no experience with those problems.
You will have to decide if this idea for fitness will be possible for you. I have learned that working out in the pool give me a great workout without any impact problems or aches and pains later. The wellness center in Murphy NC and also at the YMCA both had the same kind of programs and I was pleasantly surprised. Now that I am back in Florida, my community has a heated pool. When the air is warm enough, I go there and tread water, swim a little, and do some of the movements I leaned in the classes.
It has been the best thing for my legs which started swelling after cancer treatments and major abdominal surgery. I started wearing compression stockings last summer, but my calves, which had swollen over 2 inches, are down to size of 15 years ago.
So the swelling is gone, and I have lost weight, all over!! WooHoo!
I hope you are able to find the answers here and with your physician's help. I'm assuming they are aware of the weight gain?
I had the weight gain problem this last time while undergoing chemotherapy for 4 years. My oncologist was never worried about the 65 pound weight gain. I think because they usually have to deal with the opposite--phenomenol weight loss. Well, the steroids and my eating patterns and no activity did not allow weight loss.
I WAS worried about it, and had them stop the steroid after 2 years. And since stopping chemotherapy nov. 2011, I've been on a quest to improve my nutrition for health. And to get myself up out of the recliner.
So, I see parallels in our situations, while the solutions might be different.
If I can help you with anything at all, please let me know!!
