Balance is extremely important and sometimes, difficult to achieve. Fortunately, it sounds like you have the best type of inspiration of all. Your grandchildren will be a constant, positive reminder to make good decisions because you won't just be doing it for yourself. Health should be shared. :)

Welcome to Sparkpeople!

Your happiness is up to you. Whatever happened in your life to make you who you are up until the point you realize this is irrelevant. It is your responsibility now to take control and change your life to be what you want it to be.

Energy and persistence conquer all things. Make time, not excuses.

I've come to find out that I have been asleep at the wheel for roughly 50 trips around the sun. Counting calories has never really been an issue/concern with me. I'm an active person, outdoor recreation in many forms fills a lot of my spare time. But, what I come to find now is, balance has been lacking.

The past 12 months have been wonderful for me. I have introduced three of my oldest grand children (A.K.A. varmints) to many outdoor activities. Ages 9-12 they are, and three of the most precious things on this earth. In looking at what they eat, and in particular what they like to carry in a back pack, I started getting cold chills.

So, that sparked me(pun intended), to look at my own diet in a much deeper sense than just serving size. I have personally made some major changes in the past 6 months, and will continue. But, my major goal now is the children's diet. In particular, shelf stable, balanced, light weight, back packing meals is my goal.

I have been using this site for reference, and just now have approached the message board. I look forward to my time here. And, I especially look forward to sharing the knowledge gained here with the varmints.

One step at a time
