Hello and welcome to spark Jen! You have come to the right place to do your journey. As for a buddy I would search for a sparkteam on swimming and maybe the area you live in. That way you have a chance of finding a buddy and others doing the same thing you are. My teams keep me motivated, challenged and hold me accountable! Good luck on your journey!

Remember, YOU ARE WORTH IT!

Hey!
My name is Jen. I could start this a bunch of ways, but I don't want this to feel like an online dating profile.

I am a 40 year old woman from Virginia who has about 120 pounds to lose. Which, when I write it like that makes me realize that I need to lose one petite female. Exasperating, frustrating, but hey - I am here. I actually have danced around the SparkPeople page for over a year before I finally committed to do something about what was making me unhappy (which, ironically, is mostly me and my decisions!!). So, 2013 is the year.

I am just getting back into exercising, and have decided that swimming will be my thing. I swam competitively as a kid, and right now I am really digging on the benefits of my morning swims. I am also training to participate in a tri-relay (yes, I will be doing the swimming part) right around my birthday, so very motivated about that. I am a step-mom, dog and cat owner (I swing both ways and love them both), photographer, and my day job has me leading a team of courageous technical writers through the slings and arrows of other people's discontent -- with their documents.

Right now I am in love with how I am feeling. I have lost about 10 pounds since December, and my swimming is giving me loads of positive energy. I am a little scared of when my exercise high gives out. It's easy right now, but I know it won't be rainbows and unicorns every day of this journey, so I hope I can find some help and sustaining ideas to marshal through.

Oh, and if someone wants to be my work-out buddy, all the better. Especially if you are a swimmer (let's face it - comparing road mileage to swimming mileage makes it seem insignificant, unless you get the satisfaction of watching said runner/biker try to swim!!) I am swimming a 1/2 mile a day right now, shooting to up my numbers between now and May. Training feedback/partners welcome!!

Good luck to all, and I am proud of what you have done today.

Jen
