Congrats on getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support- it's also lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together.

Sometimes the best way to start is to just pick a small goal such as drinking 8 glasses of water a day or eating 5 fruits and veggies plus a small exercise goal such as increasing whatever you've been doing by 10% - I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized here instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' and another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I have - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!

Welcome to SparkPeople!! This is a wonderful site with so many resources like articles, trackers, and community SparkTeams to help give you support and keep you motivated. See how many SparkPoints you can get each day and this will help you find and use many of the tools of the site. Hi Gibby and welcome! I think you'll find that this website isn't "complicated" once you know your way around the place! I applaud your wanting to get healthy and get things "under control" now....and your thoughts about showing your children is wonderful. Don't do this FOR them, do it for YOU. You owe it to them to be the best you can be....healthy, happy and fit! You will also be a role model for your patients you care for....show them what it's like to be healthy. My best to you on your journed!

I am 33 years old and trying to get myself back into shape. I am a mother of two kids 14 and 12. I am married. I have been a nurse for 7 years and am trying to get into medical school. I am at my heaviest at 250 pounds and need to get it under control. I want to be healthier and show my kids how to live a healthier lifestyle. I am hoping that by getting into a healthier routine I will be able to deal with the stresses of going back to school without ballooning up.
